Solaris: OC4J: 9.0.2.0.0 or 9.0.3.0.0

I'm a bit puzzled as to versioning of oc4j running applications created with Jdeveloper RC2 / BI Beans RC2 .
I downloaded a file called oc4j_extended.zip (of 25. March).
I would have thought this to be the latest distro of oc4j.
When I invoke the oc4j.jar, I receive a message like this:
"Oracle9iAS (9.0.2.0.0) Containers for J2EE initialized"
I see other people are running version 9.0.3.0.0, and most Jdeveloper references are for this version as well.
Is there a later version (for Solaris) that I need to download/install?
If so, where can it be found?
Or am I fine running with the one I have?
(Reason for asking is that I am running into problems that could possibly be related to versioning.)
Jens

Thanks for quick response, I am located in Norway, 6 hours in front of the US, so days can easily be "wasted" waiting for you guys. Maybe we'll manage to squeeze in 2 answers today ;-)
Here are the answers to your question:
myhost% java -version -jar oc4j.jar
java version "1.3.1_01"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.1_01)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.3.1_01, mixed mode)
myhost% java -jar oc4j.jar -version
Oracle9iAS (9.0.2.0.0) Containers for J2EE
myhost% java -jar ./oc4j.jar -version
Oracle9iAS (9.0.2.0.0) Containers for J2EE
This is a bit complicated, but here's a quick resume of what I did:
* Install Oracle 9.0.1.0.0, including the http-server.
* Patch to 9.0.1.2.0
* download oc4j_extended, unzip to a new $ORACLE_HOME/oc4j
* Source the following file:
myhost% more java131.sh
setenv PATH /usr/j2se/bin:/u01/app/oracle/product/901/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/cc
/bin:/etc:/opt/bin:/usr/ucb:.:/usr/openwin/bin:/usr/openwin/lib
setenv CLASS_PATH /usr/j2se/lib:/u01/app/oracle/jre/1.1.8/lib:/u01/app/oracle/p
oduct/901/jlib:/u01/app/oracle/product/901/wmt/jlib
setenv CLASSPATH /usr/j2se/lib:/u01/app/oracle/jre/1.1.8/lib:/u01/app/oracle/pr
duct/901/jlib:/u01/app/oracle/product/901/wmt/jlib
alias java="/usr/j2se/bin/java"
myhost%
* Check that the right java verson is running:
myhost% which java
/usr/j2se/bin/java
myhost%
* start the oc4j server with :
java -Xmx256m -Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBClass=com.inprise.vbroker.orb.ORB -Dorg.omg.COR
BA.ORBSingletonClass=com.inprise.vbroker.orb.ORB -jar oc4j.jar
And it reports back v. 9.0.2.0.0
So what am I doing wrong?
Any input will be appreciated.

  • BC4J; OC4J;JSP;JD323 - deployment on Solaris 2.6

    I am trying to deploy a BC4J JSP application to OC4J so that we can take advantage of the SErvlet API 2.2 - our sessions persistent crash on JServ. The so-called guidance on OTN viz
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/jdev/howtos/bc4jdeployment.html
    isn't much use. The BC4J installer is only for Windows; none of the paths match what I have on my Solaris OC4J installation.
    One of my colleagues has got our application working on an Apache/Tomcat configuration. When the OAS desupport was announced last year we debated whether to move to Apache or iAS. We decided to stick with Oracle because it was supported.
    However, when it comes to anything internet, java, jdeveloper, on this side of the pond at least, Oracle support is as much use as a chocolate fireguard, so we are in effect unsupported anyway. We have either resolved all our problems with our own sweat or with guidance from this forum.
    My question is: is there a guide for deploying BC4J to an OC4J installation or Solaris or should we give up on iAS and migrate to Apache?
    This is getting urgent: we have systems that need to go live very soon and we don't yet have a stable web platform.
    TIA, APC

    Mike, do give more details from your install log. Looks like copying of some of the files are not happening.
    Make sure this install is happening into an oracle home by itself.
    Also make sure you have applied all of 2.6_Recommended cluster patch from SUN before installing Oracle9iAS.

  • Win JDeveloper war file to oc4j instance on solaris??

    Hi,
    I have been trying to get a war file that I deployed on JDeveloper (windows release candidate) set up on my solaris oc4j( version 2 dev release). I read on this forum these directions:
    "Right click on the myproject.jpr in the JDev navigator and select 'new...', go to Deployment Profiles and select J2EE Web Module (WAR File) - a general screen will pop up asking you to save the deployment profile (you can just use the default if you want). Once you select OK on that, you will get a screen that calls itself the J2EE Web Module Deployment Profile Settings. This is the screen that you can use to enter your information.
    Your servlet and javabean classes will go into WEB-INF/classes subdirectory that you see to your left in this window. Simply select the WEB-INF/classes entry and it will display a list of your java sources (it will only place the compiled output in this directory - there is a toggle for it).
    Once you have specified that your javabean and servlet classes go in this directory, you should be set. Go ahead and save / close. In your navigation screen under your project (myproject.jpr or whatever your project name is) you will see your files, jsps, etc and something called webapp1.deploy (if you accepted the default). If you right-click on that, you will get a menu that asks a number of things, one of which is to Deploy to EAR file. Select that entry and it will create an ear file for you. You can play with the various settings to change the name of the ear file, but that's about all you have to do. Once this is completed, you can put the EAR file on your linux box or wherever you want, adjust your server.xml and default-web-app.xml files and launch the app!
    EXCEPT...I did not deploy to EAR ; I deployed to war and then I just modified two config files (under j2ee/home/config)
    application.xml
    <web-module id="notesWar" path="../../home/applications/notesWar.war" />
    and default-web-app.xml
    <web-module id="notesWar" path="../../home/applications/notesWar.war" />
    This seems to work , but when I set up my project in JDeveloper, I specified a target file to run, and within JDeveloper it includes the directory not just the file (which is a windows directory) so I am thinking that when I try to deploy on unix, it doesn't know what target file to run bc it can't find it, but I don't know that that information is even included in the war file... is there somewhere else you specify when you are deploying the war file which html, jsp, etc. needs to be run first. By the way, when I launch the application on the solaris oc4j via war deployment, it goes to the first html file listed in the war (I need it to go the second html file first).

    Hi,
    I am sorry; I mistyped....
    I already configured default-web-site.xml with the above values.
    The war file will run on the solaris oc4j instance, but it just
    runs the wrong initial html. I need a login to be the target
    page, but I don't know how to specify that for my particular
    situation.
    If I run the application within JDeveloper on Windows
    without a war file, it works. I run like this...
    Right click on the (.jpr) project file and run...it will go to the
    correct run target bc I have specified within the project
    settings, the default run target, but when i try to run as a war,
    it does not go to the correct run target so I need to know how to
    specify a default run target for a war file. I did create the
    war after I specified the default run target.
    Thank you!

  • NumLock enabled causes Enter, Backspace, etc., to not work on Solaris

    When NumLock is enabled, Swing applications are not seeing key presses of the Enter, Backspace, and other keys. This is running on a Solaris 10 workstation. I've tried fixing this using xrdb settings, but to no avail.
    Is there a way to fix this so that Java apps see key presses to Enter, Backspace, etc., whether or not NumLock is enabled?
    Thanks,

  • Automating a flex app on a headless server

    I have a flex chart drawing application that needs to be automated. When automated it will read in data from the DB, draw the charts, and save them as .png files. This works flawlessly on my localhost version of oc4j on my Mac. However it has never worked on our Solaris oc4j deployment which is a headless server. I've set flex to run as headless in the config files but no dice. How can I get this working? Here are some of the error messages I'm getting:

    I'm using 10g, by the way.
    Thanks!

    Ok, I'm convinced that this is some sort of configuration problem. I can get the browser to launch when written as a simple java program compiled at the command line:
    import java.util.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class Launcher {
    public static void main(String args[]) throws IOException {
    String url = "http://www.ebay.com";
    String[] commands = {"/bin/sh", "-c", "/opt/sfw/bin/firefox ", url, "-width", "1600", "-height", "1200", ":5"};
    ProcessBuilder pb = new ProcessBuilder(commands);
    Map<String, String> env = pb.environment();
    env.put( "DISPLAY", ":5" );
    Iterator it = env.entrySet().iterator();
    while (it.hasNext()) {
    Map.Entry pairs = (Map.Entry)it.next();
    System.out.println("\t>> environ: "+pairs.getKey() + " = " + pairs.getValue());
    Process process = pb.start();
    The output is just to show the environment variables and it looks like this:

    It's very simple, you go to the OBIEE documentation page:

    And you download the Infrastructure Installation and Configuration Guide. You then read it and get to the section where if talks about Starting and Stopping the OC4J Process.

  • OC4J and BC4J Runtime installation for Solaris (Unix)!

    We have successfully installed, configured and deployed JSP/BC4J apps using OC4J and BC4J on Windows NT/2000. However, our production environment is Solaris.
    We have installed OC4J on Solaris, with some difficulties. How/where is the installation process for the BC4J Runtime Installation? The download (bc4j-ojsp.zip) for this utility is Windows only.

    Stephan,
    I have located multiple "connections" files and will remove all but the default located in the OC4J classes directory. We have been developing with JDeveloper and it often created multiple connections files that appear when you "jar" project components.
    We also installed JDK1.2.2_008 and are using this. However, when I use the classpath method of starting OC4J, I receive numerous errors. Using the jar method, everything works, with the exception of BC4J apps. I'll have to look into the errors more.
    Thanks for the response. At least I know one other person (organization) is using this successfully. I hope to join the "success" crowd tomorrow!
    Thanks again...

    I had the same problem. This is not a problem with persistance directories. It is a shell compatibility problem. The first error is:
    /usr/local/jdevstudiobase1013/jdev/bin/ojc: test: unknown operator ==
    The file ojc in that directory is a shell script. The problem is the interpreter (the shell identified on the first line of the script) is /bin/sh. Most likely your /bin/sh on that machine is a real binary and not a link to a more modern shell. If you have bash installed try changing the first line of the shell script (ojc) to:
    #!/usr/bin/env bash
    or
    #!/bin/bash
    or the path to a modern shell that can handle the sh syntax.

  • Running JSPs through Apache Jserv in OC4J

    hello there -
    I'm hoping someone can help me.
    I want index.jsp, our first page, to ACT like a JSP, rather than the current HTML. It seems that httpd.conf wont access OC4J, so i've attempted to access Jserv. Still, things wont work.
    If someone could please take a look at what i have so far in httpd.conf, more specifically, near the bottom where i've opened up Jserv, and let me know what i'm doing wrong, i'd greatly appreciate it!
    ## httpd.conf -- Apache HTTP server configuration file
    # Based upon the NCSA server configuration files originally by Rob McCool.
    # This is the main Apache server configuration file. It contains the
    # configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
    # See <URL:http://www.apache.org/docs/> for detailed information about
    # the directives.
    # Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
    # what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
    # consult the online docs. You have been warned.
    # After this file is processed, the server will look for and process
    # /devl/ics3/devl/apache/srm.conf and then /devl/ics3/devl/apache/access.conf
    # unless you have overridden these with ResourceConfig and/or
    # AccessConfig directives here.
    # The configuration directives are grouped into three basic sections:
    # 1. Directives that control the operation of the Apache server process as a
    # whole (the 'global environment').
    # 2. Directives that define the parameters of the 'main' or 'default' server,
    # which responds to requests that aren't handled by a virtual host.
    # These directives also provide default values for the settings
    # of all virtual hosts.
    # 3. Settings for virtual hosts, which allow Web requests to be sent to
    # different IP addresses or hostnames and have them handled by the
    # same Apache server process.
    # Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
    # of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
    # server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do not begin
    # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
    # with ServerRoot set to "/usr/local/apache" will be interpreted by the
    # server as "/usr/local/apache/logs/foo.log".
    ### Section 1: Global Environment
    # The directives in this section affect the overall operation of Apache,
    # such as the number of concurrent requests it can handle or where it
    # can find its configuration files.
    # ServerType is either inetd, or standalone. Inetd mode is only supported on
    # Unix platforms.
    ServerType standalone
    # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's

    # Server-pool size regulation. Rather than making you guess how many
    # server processes you need, Apache dynamically adapts to the load it
    # sees --- that is, it tries to maintain enough server processes to
    # handle the current load, plus a few spare servers to handle transient
    # load spikes (e.g., multiple simultaneous requests from a single
    # Netscape browser).
    # It does this by periodically checking how many servers are waiting
    # for a request. If there are fewer than MinSpareServers, it creates

    # The directives in this section set up the values used by the 'main'

    # <VirtualHost> definition. These values also provide defaults for
    # any <VirtualHost> containers you may define later in the file.
    # All of these directives may appear inside <VirtualHost> containers,
    # in which case these default settings will be overridden for the
    # virtual host being defined.
    # If your ServerType directive (set earlier in the 'Global Environment'
    # section) is set to "inetd", the next few directives don't have any
    # effect since their settings are defined by the inetd configuration.

    # AddLanguage allows you to specify the language of a document. You can
    # then use content negotiation to give a browser a file in a language
    # it can understand.
    # Note 1: The suffix does not have to be the same as the language
    # keyword --- those with documents in Polish (whose net-standard
    # language code is pl) may wish to use "AddLanguage pl .po" to
    # avoid the ambiguity with the common suffix for perl scripts.
    # Note 2: The example entries below illustrate that in quite
    # some cases the two character 'Language' abbriviation is not
    # identical to the two character 'Country' code for its country,
    # E.g. 'Danmark/dk' versus 'Danish/da'.
    # Note 3: In the case of 'ltz' we violate the RFC by using a three char
    # specifier. But there is 'work in progress' to fix this and get
    # the reference data for rfc1766 cleaned up.

    ### Section 3: Virtual Hosts
    # VirtualHost: If you want to maintain multiple domains/hostnames on your
    # machine you can setup VirtualHost containers for them. Most configurations
    # use only name-based virtual hosts so the server doesn't need to worry about
    # IP addresses. This is indicated by the asterisks in the directives below.
    # Please see the documentation at <URL:http://www.apache.org/docs/vhosts/>
    # for further details before you try to setup virtual hosts.
    # You may use the command line option '-S' to verify your virtual host
    # configuration.
    # If you want to use name-based virtual hosts you need to define at
    # least one IP address (and port number) for them.
    # Use name-based virtual hosting.
    #NameVirtualHost 12.34.56.78:80
    #NameVirtualHost 12.34.56.78
    #NameVirtualHost *
    # VirtualHost example:
    # Almost any Apache directive may go into a VirtualHost container.
    # The first VirtualHost section is used for requests without a known
    # server name.

    # SSL Engine Options:
    # Set various options for the SSL engine.
    # o FakeBasicAuth:
    # Translate the client X.509 into a Basic Authorisation. This means that
    # the standard Auth/DBMAuth methods can be used for access control. The
    # user name is the `one line' version of the client's X.509 certificate.
    # Note that no password is obtained from the user. Every entry in the user
    # file needs this password: `xxj31ZMTZzkVA'.
    # o ExportCertData:
    # This exports two additional environment variables: SSL_CLIENT_CERT and
    # SSL_SERVER_CERT. These contain the PEM-encoded certificates of the
    # server (always existing) and the client (only existing when client
    # authentication is used). This can be used to import the certificates
    # into CGI scripts.
    # o StdEnvVars:
    # This exports the standard SSL/TLS related `SSL_*' environment variables.
    # Per default this exportation is switched off for performance reasons,
    # because the extraction step is an expensive operation and is usually
    # useless for serving static content. So one usually enables the
    # exportation for CGI and SSI requests only.
    # o CompatEnvVars:
    # This exports obsolete environment variables for backward compatibility
    # to Apache-SSL 1.x, mod_ssl 2.0.x, Sioux 1.0 and Stronghold 2.x. Use this
    # to provide compatibility to existing CGI scripts.
    # o StrictRequire:
    # This denies access when "SSLRequireSSL" or "SSLRequire" applied even
    # under a "Satisfy any" situation, i.e. when it applies access is denied
    # and no other module can change it.
    # o OptRenegotiate:

    # SSL Protocol Adjustments:
    # The safe and default but still SSL/TLS standard compliant shutdown
    # approach is that mod_ssl sends the close notify alert but doesn't wait for
    # the close notify alert from client. When you need a different shutdown
    # approach you can use one of the following variables:
    # o ssl-unclean-shutdown:
    # This forces an unclean shutdown when the connection is closed, i.e. no
    # SSL close notify alert is send or allowed to received. This violates
    # the SSL/TLS standard but is needed for some brain-dead browsers. Use
    # this when you receive I/O errors because of the standard approach where
    # mod_ssl sends the close notify alert.
    # o ssl-accurate-shutdown:
    # This forces an accurate shutdown when the connection is closed, i.e. a
    # SSL close notify alert is send and mod_ssl waits for the close notify
    # alert of the client. This is 100% SSL/TLS standard compliant, but in
    # practice often causes hanging connections with brain-dead browsers. Use
    # this only for browsers where you know that their SSL implementation
    # works correctly.
    # Notice: Most problems of broken clients are also related to the HTTP
    # keep-alive facility, so you usually additionally want to disable
    # keep-alive for those clients, too. Use variable "nokeepalive" for this.

    Weird ... that works.
    So, I created the dummy account which was also failing as follows:
    create user newuser identified by oracle;
    grant developer_role to newuser;This fails, but only from a Form running under OC4J, until I run:
    ALTER SYSTEM SET sec_case_sensitive_logon = FALSE scope = MEMORY;While I've made this change in our development database, I don't really want to do the same eventually in PROD. I'd rather figure out what's changed about how OC4J connects, find a rememdy there, and set this back to TRUE.
    Since I didn't create the username or password as a string literal (to ensure lowercasing), I'm confused as to what's happening. When the init parm is set to TRUE, when the dialog box pops up for the form after the invalid username/password error, I tried entering the password in all lowercase, and then in all uppercase, to no effect. Both fail.

    The -XX:MaxPermSize option is specific to Sun's JDK for Solaris and Linux. And works pretty fine on my Linux system.
    It looks like you're using the IBM JDK which has different options and may be a different memory model.

  • AnnotatedNoClassDefFound error when using OracleXMLSQL (XSU) in oc4j 10.1.3

    This topic has been canvassed before in this forum, however, none of the replies/suggestions have worked in my case.
    I am running on a Solaris x86 5.10 64 bit server, oc4j is 10.1.3 standalone production, jdeveloper is 10.1.3 production. My app is using the Oracle XMLSQL libraries. I migrated an application from JRE 1.4.2 to JRE 1.5.0, and migrated the dev and oc4j standalone environments at the same time. The app worked originally without the need to do more than import the requisite libraries used in the app. You will see from the error reported below, that despite the correct importation of the XSU libraries (IE no compile errors), that oracle.xdb.XMLType is deemed to be missing.
    Here is the stack trace:

    The app works perfectly still in jdeveloper itself - the missing class referred to when running in standalone oc4j, oracle.xdb.XMLType, is present as part of xdb.jar, which lives in the rdbms folder in oc4j in jdev. It is not available in oc4j standalone.
    The following was attempted to fix this problem:
    1. I copied xdb.jar to rdbms folder in srtandalone oc4j, and still got the problem.
    2. I included the jar specifically in the web app itelsf, so that it became available in WEB-INF/lib. No go.
    3. I included the code in classes by including the output in the WEB-INF classes folder. No go.
    4. I copied the library to applib to be picked up in the oc4j global sharing. No go.
    5. I created a shared library under shared-lib. No go.
    6. I copied the jar to j2ee/home/lib. No go.
    7. I copied the jar to j2ee/home/lib/ext. No go.
    8. Finally, the sledgehammer - I copied the jar to $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/ext, and the library was found. In all I had to copy dms.jar, xdb.jar, servlet.jar and ojdbc14dsm.jar to the global external folder before the app would work.
    In all cases 1-7 above I stopped and restarted oc4j. In all cases 1-7 the loader found the jar file in the intended location, but announced that it still could not load the class, even though it had been located, and was loaded in a loader of the same name! The above stack trace shows examples of two of the attempts.
    The final "solution" isn't one - its an ugly kludge.
    My question is, how does jdeveloper do it - how does it establish the right context for the load - if I could work that out, I could work at establishing the right context for XSU loading the XMLType class in the standalone environment.
    Your assistance would be greatly appreciated in this matter.
