Solaris on older intel platforms

Hi,
Can you tell me is there any version of solaris that can be installed on 486 or Pentium I platform. Thanks

Hello,
I have a Pentium 200 with an old S3 video card, Panasonic CD-ROM, 3GB HD, 128MB RAM that, aside from the 3Com 3c905C-TX-NM problem, works great so far. The Motherboard is not on the HCL, but the CD-ROM and Video card are.
I'll be trying out an Intel NIC at the end of this week/early next week.
Mike

  • I can't Install 8.1.7 on solaris version for Intel platform

I have installed 8.0 Sun Solaris on Intel PIII with 393 MB RAM
and I am not able to install Oracle8i (8.1.7) on the system.
Can u please let me know as to how to install.
When I invoke the runInstaller (Shell Script), It is rising a
error stating "syntax error at line 1: `(' unexpected".
    Thanks.
    Bye.

Where did u get your oracle817 version for intel solaris?
in cdrom top dir, the runInstaller is just a shell script, and
there is a binary program in install dir, try to run that
program and give out the result?

I have checked this site and i also downloaded the version 8.1.7 for solaris. when i try to run the ./runInstaller file it gives me a error as "Syntax error on line number 1" and returns back to $prompt. I was told that this is the version only for Sun Sparc Solaris. There is no 8i version for Solaris 8 on intel platform.
Is that right ??.. or do U have some more information on that. probably anybody has tried that or so ??..

  • Monitor Setup for Intel Platform

I have installed Solaris 8 on Intel Platform. But I am unable to set the Color resolution of my Monitor and it is working in Monochrome mode. How do I set the Monitor back to color ?

Output 1-2 are connected to the "main-outputs" on the 003 which are thus controlled by the volume knob. The center monitor on output 8 isn't. This is where i was getting the volume difference. I'm presuming they should be the same volume.

  • Solaris 2.6 intel microchannel boot disk

Where is it? The link in the Solaris 2.6 install docs is broken?
Please help. I have 3 Microchannel machines I need to install Solaris on.
    Thanks,
    Richard

System With a Micro Channel Architecture
The Solaris 2.6 (Intel Platform Edition) distribution CD is accompanied by a boot diskette supporting most systems, including those with ISA, EISA, VLB, and PCI buses. If you have a system with a Micro Channel Architecture (MCA), you may download a boot diskette from Sun's Solaris 2.6 Web site:
     http://access1.sun.com/solaris/distrib2.6
Full instructions for downloading and creating the MCA diskette are on the Web site. You may also obtain the diskette through your Sun Software Support Provider.
You must make certain that the boot diskette is not write-protected because configuration information is saved to the diskette during the initial boot.

  • Building mod_jk module on Solaris 10 (Intel Platform)

I am trying to build a mod_jk module on a Sun Blade 1500 (Solaris 10 Intel Platform). I downloaded the most recent tomcat connector I could find (jakarta-tomcat-connectors-current-src.tar.gz) and have attempted to build it, but I have received the following error:

I'm not familiar with what you are trying to accomplish,
I'm more of a hardware person, but...
Sun Blade 1500 systems are NOT x86 architecture.
    They are UltraSPARC-IIIi systems.
Could that be contributing to what you see?

  • Solaris 8 does not boot in Intel Platform

I got free Solaris 8 CD for Intel Platform. I installed it in a PC with Intel 133 cpu. It cannot boot up after it is installed. When I boot, it just keeps rebooting system and get an error says, "File Can not be synchronized". I know I made some mistake during installation. My PC has a 3COM network car but it is not connect to any network. During installation, I told that I connect to network and give a non-exist ip address.
My question is how do I reinstall it? I have tried to delete everything in hard drive but no luck to get installation start again.
The other problem I see is that the scan program tells me that there is an IDE card lack of resources and conflicts with another IDE card.
Could some one tell me how to make Solaris 8 working on my Intel Platform PC?
    Thanks,
    Cindy

I'm trying to install Solaris 8 using the Device Configuration Assistant diskette in order to boot from the CD Drive. The whole boot process goes through as described in the documentation but at the time that is trying to copy files to the HD in order to porceed with the install, I get the following error message:
    <pre>
No Disks that meet the citeria in the Solaris
    installer documentation found.
Please check the system or try another installation option
    </pre>
When the software is checking for drivers/hardware, it recognizes the HD, but it seems that when trying to boot it doesn't. The documentation makes reference to fdisk and partitioning but I am not given the oportunity to do it at any time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • CAN I INSTALL SOLARIS 10 INTEL PLATFORM ON MY PC

Can anybody guide me whether i can install solaris 10 intel platform on my pc having following configuration
    1. Processor = AMD SEMPRON 2500+ 64-BIT.
    2. MainBoard = ASUS K8V-MX.
    3. RAM-= 512 MB DDR PC3200
    4. Display = Onboard VIA/S3G Unichrome Pro IGP.
    5. LAN = Onboard VIA RHINE II Fast Ethernet Adapter.
    6. Monitor = 17" LG CRT, Model = Studioworks 700S
    7. Sony DVD- ROM.
    8. Samsung DVD-RW.
    9. HDD = 40 GB Samsung 7200 RPM.
If anybody knows let me know at my e-mail [email protected]

I don't think you will have many problems in this platform, but I'm not 100% sure.
What I recommend you is to get the VMWare and try there. VMWare is a software where you can create a virtual machine running under windows. In this virtual machine you could install solaris 10 (and any other OS you want to test in your computer). I have my Solaris 10 running under VMWare with excellent results (Laptop with Intel Celeron processor)... where I have VMWare installed in Windows!

  • Oracle for Sun Solaris (Intel Platform)

I want to know that if oracle for sun solaris 8 (intel platform) is available and anyone has installed it. On OTN only oracle for sun solaris (For SPARC ) is available for download.
if anyone know it for solaris 8 (intel platform) then please tell me where to get it from.

So that we may better diagnose DOWNLOAD problems, please provide the following information.
    - Server name ORACLE 9I DATABASE
    - Filename
    - Date/Time 5 JULY 2K2
    - Browser + Version IE 6
    - O/S + Version SUN SOLARIS
    - Error Msg

I didn't see anything on the Sun site, but the disk arrived with my Solaris media. I have installed it on one machine (you need to create the "oracle" user id, the "dba" group, and you must set the tunable parameters for shared memory to install the software and example database.)
I tried to install a second machine and the Oracle installer terminates half way through without errors. I'm still working that issue.

  • Does IBM eServer support Solaris (Intel Platform Edition) ???

    Hi Friends,
Does anyone know whether IBM eServer supports Solaris (Intel Platform Edition) or not ?
Anyone has succeeded to install it before ???

I'm sure that Oracle8i server supports Solaris Intel Platform and Oracle9i doesn't support Solaris Intel Platform at this moment as I know.

  • Can not Create Database on Oracle8i 8.1.6 on Solaris 2.6 10/00 Intel Platform!!!

I buy a solaris8 10/00 and install it on Intel PIII 633 MHz 320MB of RAM and 10GB Harddisk. and I try to install Oracle8i 8.1.6 Intel Platform.
After installing, I use "dbassist" for creating a database. In the step of creating an "Initialize File".
There is an error "ORA-01034" then I ignore. so there is another error "ORA-01012". I search in the directory that I store a database but there is no control file.
When I try to start oracle, It reported the error "ORA-27102 Out of memory" and "Error 22 Invalid argument ".
Do you have any suggestion for my situation?
    thanks a lots

    Hi,
I don't have precise answer to your problem.
But I can make some wild guesses:
    1. If you have done a "typical" installation, it automatically creates a database.
Now, you will have to do the follwing:
    a. login as oracle
    b. type "$ORACLE_HOME/bin/svrmgrl"
    c. type "connect internal"
    d. type "startup" without any argument.
If it opens the database, it's fine. If not, there is some problem in the starting of the instance itself.
I mean, the first step it does is to start an instance and start background processes.
    2. Is the listener process start without any problem?
    That is,
    If you type
    "$ORACLE_HOME/bin/lsnrctl"
    "start"
it should start the listener process without throwing error messages.
    3. Have you configured tnsnames.ora file?
Pl. keep me posted abt latest updates.
    Thanks,
    Raghu.
