Solaris OSES Midtier Errors.

Hi,
My Solaris 9 OSES install does not spawn the 'search' procedss when startall. Also the midTier needs a restart often since it only lasts a couple of hours. I opened a tar with Oracle Support a week ago, but no progress yet. And I am running short in time.
After the install, I did not see any env file. So I built one from "oraenv" with three parameters: ORACLE_SID, ORACLE_HOME and PATH. Not sure if other env variables are needed for OC4J stuff.
Could someone show me a copy of the env file, so I can verify if PATH is OK, an verify if LD_LIBRARY_PATH, LIBPATH, SHLIB_PATH or other env variables need to be set.
Thanks in advance.

Two more questions:
1) Where is the envionment file? Is it oraenv? Is it enought jut to use searchctl to stop and start SES without having to set environmental variables?
2) The Admin tutorial (10.1.5) states that the 'search' process is spawned in the install. However, I just did another 10.1.6 install. There is still no 'search' process. However I see the java process: /u02/oracle/<ora_sid>/10.1.6/jdk/bin/java -Dhttp.webdir.enable=false -Doracle.oc4
Which one do you have in your 10.1.6 install?
Please advise.

  • Solaris MDBexec Load Error

We are trying to install Solaris 8 10/01 on an Acer G610 Server, P111, 1.2 Ghz Dual Processor with 1 GB Memory. After using fdisk on Solaris for creating the Partition and defining the swap size, the installation process restarted for continuation. However, after restarting it did not continue with the installation. We receive an error message " Solaris MDBexec Load Error". Is this due to the fact the hardware is not compatible or is there something with the installation process?

Well, search the forum for MDBexec and you will find a range of responses to this issue. One is upgrade the bios of the scsi controller and another is to reformat the disks. It seems clear it has something to do with the Master Boot Record.

  • Petstore 1.3 with Oracle 8.1.7 on Solaris 9 - deployment error

    Hello,
I'm trying to get Petstore 1.3 shipped with WebLogic Server 7.0 to work with Oracle
    8.1.7 on Solaris 9 with a third-party (Oracle) jdbc driver (classes12). I did
    the following:
    1) created a new connection pool with the correct Oracle database URL and driver
class name (oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver), also user/password properties for
    the Oracle db, and the WL server selected in targets;
    2) created a database schema for Oracle based on the data in Pointbase and the
    weblogic-cmp-rdbms-jar file as well as petstore_catalog_utf8.sql;
    3) created a new tx datasource pointing to the Oracle conn pool;
    4) modified the catalog component's ejb-jar.xml file's env-entry to contain CatalogOracleDAOImpl;
    5) put weblogic.jar in the classpath;
    6) used Java's dbping utility to check connection to the database via the Oracle
driver (works fine--no network adapter error or anything related).
I then rebuilt the ear files (build is successful), but when deploying get the
    following error:
"Cannot deploy EJB AccountEJB from customerEjb.jar. Cannot find datasource for
JNDI datasource-petstorePool" and says to make sure the JNDI name and deployment
descriptors are correct (I checked the customer component's deployment descriptors
against the tx datasources' JNDI and they match).
What step(s) am I missing? Any suggestions on what else I need to modify would
    be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Beverly Claire

    Beverly:
If you have 8.1, then you should be able to simply and easily create a
connection pool to petstore via the console.
The current error you encountering: "petstorePool does not exist" is
    because either:
petstorePool is not defined or there was a failure when the pool was first
created trying to connect to the DBMS.
The full errror should be in the log file prior to the TXDatasource error.
    Cheers

    Hello Rob,
Thanks for your reply. Yes, the tx datasource's JNDI name isdatasource-petstorePool.
The server log says that "petstorePool does not exist".
    My conn pool contents:
    Name: petstorePool
    URL: jdbc:oracle:thin:@<replaced with db address>:<replaced with dbport>:<replaced
    with db SID>
    Driver Class Name: oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver

No, actually we're not evaluating in the sense of just-trying-things-out.One
of our clients is considering an application server. They're relying on usfor
help in choosing which would be best. As of now, we are comparing BEA WLServer
7 and 8.1, Sun ONE Application Server 7 EE, Oracle 9i Application Server, and
Fujitsu Interstage v5 Application Server. For cluster testing andperformance
comparison purposes, we'd like to use the same J2EE Application across allservers,
and the obvious choice is Petstore 1.3. One aim is to smoothly connect toan Oracle
database. The other app servers provide setup scripts and databaseschemas for
Petstore-with-Oracle, so db conn and deployment are not a problem at all.As for
WL, we've been trying to get Petstore (both the version downloaded fromSun's
Java Blueprints and the version that shipped with WL 7) to work withOracle, but
no luck so far. It's getting a bit frustrating, given the ease with whichthings
worked out with the other app servers.
Yes, I've tried out Avitek MedRec for WL 8.1, and this time BEA has kindlymade
provisions for Oracle db, so connection to Oracle is not a problem. I'mhoping
BEA will come around to doing the same thing for Petstore, although I'mguessing
that won't be in the near future.
Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Bevery Claire

  • JRE 1.4.2_02 on solaris: java.lang.error

    Hi,
I've just installed JRE 1.4.2_02 on a server running Solaris 8. The installation procedure went by without problems/errors (as described on Sun's pages: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/jre/install-solaris.html)
When I try to execute java.exe (i.e: java -version) I get the following error response:
Error occurred during initialization of VM
java.lang.Error: Properties init: Could not determine current working
    directory.
If I log in as root I'm allowed to run java.exe without problems. I'd really appreciate any ideas, views, comments etc. on what might be the problem ...
    /Regards Jennifer Lee

I've posted this a couple oif other places today as well, but essentially it may help
I had the 'Error occured ..., VM' problem after installing 1.4.2_01 on Linux under slackware9.1.
I found the resolution by running 'java -verbose' as root and as a user and comparing the output, as java ran fine for root.
Turns out that for the user 'java -version' stopped after loading a couple of jars, and as root it didn't.
These jars in the JAVA_HOME/jre/lib directory only had root read/write permissions. After changing these permissions to all read and root write it worked fine for the user (so far)
The above may be of some help, but comparing the differences (especially permissions) in running it as root and user with -verbose may help.

         c0t0d0s0 FAULTED   corrupted data
         c0t1d0s8 UNAVAIL    corrupted data
    This is highly confusing
Any help would be much appreciated

What's confusing to me is that the second disk in this mirrored root pool shows c0t1d0s0 in one output and c0t1d0s8 is another output. I hope this is a typo. Otherwise, you need to find out why this device path changed. Its look like the primary disk is faulted. FMA will tell you if the disk is faulted and whether the second disk's device path changed. You will have to boot from media or an install server.

  • Solaris 10 - Installing Errors - Dell Dimension 4100

    Hello All,
I am tring to install Solaris 10 on a Dell Dimension 4100 system. I am getting an error, then the system reboots.
I am able to boot the Solaris 10 (03/05) DVD, I downloaded.
I get prompted : "Type of Installation you want to perform"
No matter which option I chose - I get the same results.
I get the msg: "Booting Kernel/Unix"
I then get the msg : "Configuring devices"
The screen flashing with information, then the computer reboots.

I checked in the BIOS - nothing about ACPI.
I am able to install multiple distros of Linux with no issues. I have not try to install any of the BSD's.
I tried to install Solaris 8, but I was unable. The issue was an open memory slot. I have 1 256mb memory card.
I was able to install Solaris 9 but I had an issue with a virus on my Windows side. I had to completly format the drive.
I have read alot aboiut Solaris 10 and wanted to give it try. I have installed via VMware.
I am tring to install only the Solaris 10 - no other OS will be on the HD.
    Thank you in Advance,
    Harry

I don't know why Solaris is so good at finding faulty ram. Windows seems to instal but will crash randomly (Nothing unusual there :) so it's hard to say the memory is bad). I don't really use Linux that much so Ive never run it on a machine with faulty ram.
If we have a machine which is acting up in windows we simply try to boot solaris. If it fails then we change the ram and it usually fixes the problem. It's just our experience.
I hope that the second sim fixes your problem
    Good Luck

  • Solaris 10 Jumpstart error: panic - boot: boot: scratch memory overflow.

I am setting up a Solaris Jumpstart server using a Linux server as the Boot/Config/Install server. The Sun box I am using is a v120 that will be running Solaris 10 update 5.
After running the "boot net - install" command and running through the setup the install terminates with the error
boot: failed to allocate 8192 bytes from scratch memory
panic - boot: boot: scratch memory overflow.
    Program terminated
    ok
    ok
I found a patch (111306-07) that supposedly fixes this problem (logged as bug 4411148). Is there a specific way to add a patch to Jumpstart so that it installs before the system reboots after the main install is done? I know the patches folder goes off of the added on date for the patch and not a patch_order file, does that mean it can just be placed in the folder and will be added automatically? Has anyone seen this error message before on their own systems?
Thanks in advance for any help.

You may also need to install the patch onto the installed OS, but that's less certain.
For the first part, find your jumpstart image and pass that into patchadd with the -C flag to patch the jumpstart portion.

  • Installtion of Sun DSEE7.0 on Solaris 10 x86 error

When attempting to install, either by native package or by zip package, the dsadm create /dsInst command always returns the error: Invalid argument. The return code is 126. Both the native package install and the zip package install without any errors. I've also installed the recommended patch cluster. Any help?

It is not supported on Solaris running on Intel.
btw - AquaLogic DSP (aka LD8.5) is the current version. It is not supported on Solaris running on Intel, either.

  • Solaris 8 install error on Intel

I am attempting to install Solaris 8 on Intel.
Using DCA diskette, I receive the following error:
    prom_panic: kmem_free block already free

    What does this mean?
    Any help is appreciated!!!

I get the same error installing 8.1.7 to a Solaris Sparc platform (Ultra 5). When it cannot connect it backs out of the database build.
After that if I attempt to start the svrmgrl manually, it says that it cannot open the parameter file "inittecdb.ora" (tecdb is my SID)
Somehow the starter database does not get backed out completely and it leaves some sort of hook which then prevents the svrmgrl
    from starting.
Did you get a resolution for your issue ???? If so could you update this issue as it may help me as well.
    Thanks

  • Solaris 8 load error

I have an Ultra 10 and can't load Solaris 10 because of an error that the machine won't support the operating system. So I tried to reload Solaris 8 after a format and receive an ata_timeout c0 d0 error and I don't know how to get around this to load the software. Any ideas anyone?

The reason I can't load Solaris 10 is that the
machine is a UltraSPARC I with 168MHz processor. No Ultra 10 has that configuration. Perhaps you meant you had an Ultra 1?
All Ultra 10s have an UltraSPARC IIi of at least 300MHz and are supported by Solaris 10 (provided you have enough RAM).
    So
I tried to reload Solaris 8 and receive a ata_timeout
on c0 d0 and can't get pass this issue. What is the
problem? Thanks in advacneAnd no Ultra 1 has an ATA device... I'm not sure what kind of machine you have.
What is the context for this timeout? Is it immediately after typing 'boot cdrom' and before anything else appears? If so, I'd assume you either had a bad CD drive, a bad media disk, or a bad cable. But I don't know that you'd see 'c0 d0' (or anything like that) until the OS started booting.
Maybe it's complaining about the internal hard drive. If you can boot from the cd, you can run an analysis on the internal hard drive.
