Solaris Security Toolkit (JASS) for Solaris 11?

Has anyone heard anything about an updated version of this for Solaris 11?
Or I'm curious if anyone has tried running the Solaris 10 version on 11?
Thanks

Don't run the Solaris 10 version on Solaris 11, it will not work correctly.
Many aspects of what SST did on Solaris 10 are part of Solaris 11. If there are things you need that aren't covered, I'd suggest opening a support case.

  • Solaris Security Toolkit 4.2

    Hi!
I've downloaded the Solaris Security Toolkit 4.2 (http://www.sun.com/software/security/jass/) and I've installed on a Solaris 9 but when I try to run the jass-execute I got the folwong error:
./jass-execute: syntax error at line 974: `end of file' unexpected
    Could anyone help me?
    Thanks.

I was running form /opt/SUNWjass/bin but it needs to be run from /opt/SUNWjass directory.

  • JASS for solaris 10

Has any one heard any thing about sun releasing JASS for solaris 10. This is a handy little tool....

Only that they will be updating and releasing JASS for Solaris 10. I don't know when.

  • Accepting Manual Updates - Solaris Security Toolkit

I have hardened a Solaris 10 server with Security Toolkit 4.2 and since then have
    modified the system.
How do I get the Toolkit (Jass) to accept the changes?
I suspect that I must create a new driver and do a Jass Execute but I would like to approach
this problem with some certainty. FYI - I created some new slices and mounted them
but the changes to vfstab do not seem to stick.
    Any advice is appreciated.

I think I found the issue, only somewhat related to Security Toolkit ...

  • Solaris Security Toolkit 4.2 download format

I've downloaded the newest release of the ToolKit for Sol10 and it appears to be in compressed tar format.
    (Solaris_Security_Toolkit_4_2_0_pkg.tar.Z)
According to docs it should be in compressed package format and I should be able to do a pkgadd after uncompressing.
    What am I missing?
    Thanks in advance!
    s

I think when I last installed SUNWjass (this was under solaris 9)I had to go into that directory (once moved to /opt) and run the install scripts something like:
    ~/jass-execute -d secure.driver (read the INSTALL file)
and then it showed up in things like pkginfo .
    Hope this helps more.
    cheers

  • Solaris on Intel/apps for solaris compatibility

Does anyone know how to run apps available for Sun solaris (sparc verion) to run on Intel solaris? I tried to install sybase client s/w on Intel solaris and obviously it bombed. Is there any kind of emulators or anything that would make this work?
    Thanks

Well written code (e.g. avoiding hardware specifics, byte-order differences etc) is intended to be readily portable from Solaris on Intel to Solaris Sparc.
The Forte tools from Sun are recommended, and a Try&Buy version can be had from the Sun download center. Sun also provides the Gnu tools on the companion CD shipped with Solaris media kits or at sunfreeware.com

  • Solaris x86: learning tool for Solaris SPARC?

I would like to know to what extent Sol x86 knowledge and experience would translate over to Sol SPARC. Not in a *NIX general sense, but Solaris specific.  The company I work for sells backup devices including virtual tape library devices, and it is my job to test them with various operating systems and backup software.  We have a Sol SPARC server solely for that purpose but it's still not something I can muck around with.  Something I definitely need experience with is setting up and configuring tape libraries.  So, specifically in this regard, but also in general, how would Sol x86 experience carry over to Sol SPARC?  Thanks in advance.

Most commands are identical. Performance analysis, loading all are similar. Tape interaction, creation of tape devices is going to be pretty much the same.
The differences show up a lot at the hardware level. HBAs aren't usually the same, many drivers (and their quirks) are different between the architectures. If you're debugging connectivity to a tape library, those differences may be critical.
So you can't get as close as you may want, but I'll bet it would still be helpful.

  • Firefox 17.0.2 for Solaris 10 (sparc) (contrib) not available

There is a security finding on Firefox 17.0.1 (CVE-2013-0759), and we need to install Firefox 17.0.2 for Solaris 10/sparc. We have to use the 17.x series. For some reason the "ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/17.0.2esr/contrib/" directory is empty.

Has there been any additional info from Oracle as to when they might update Firefox for Solaris 10 SPARC beyond 10.0.7 ESR (''aka Patch ID #145080-12'')? I have not been able to find the referenced package for 10.0.12 ESR within MOS. Realistically, I really need 17.0.5 ESR or later -- the contributed versions are not an option due to their questionable source (''i.e., Beijing'').

I have a solaris server with 16gb of RAM that will subsequently be zoned into three zones to support three separate database instances, one for each zone. Given that physically there is only 16Gb of ram, It is my understanding and experience that I should have 1.5-2 * 4Gb should be at least 6Gb of SWAP per Local Zone.
Please advise. ThanksI'd look at it like this .....
Your Phyiscal Memory will be used somewhat as follows:-
    - Lets say 1GB for the OS ...
    - 1.5GB for zfs arc cahce if your useing ZFS.
    - The sum of your PGAs and SGA's should fit within the remainder of ram.
    - And your may want a little more to be sure and for other things; monitroting software agents, em etc.
In order that you can use more virtual memoy than you have physical memory for your will porably want to add a swap file, and for a 16GB machine this would probably be 4 / 8 or perhaps up to 16GB depending if would will occasionally have higher virutal memory demands or if poeple but big files in /tmp. In general swap -s can be used to monitor a shortage, though it can foolled if zfs_arc_cache is not limited.
The situation for zones not different unless you are using zone.max-swap and the physical capped memory.
If you have zone with a physical capped memory of 5GB, and a zone.max-swap of 8GB with is af the zone has a swapfile of 3GB; and you have to make sure:
    - The global zone is able to give that amount of memory to the non-global zone.
    - The global zone can provider the zone.max.swap from its virutal memory.
    - That the sga+pga and /tmp usage and other will fit in zone.max-swap ... use swap -s in the zone to monitor.

  • Are Solaris Patches ONLY available for a fee?

I have tried repeatedly to get Patch Manager for Solaris 9, which we're running on a brand new V240. The application we purchased it for is not yet certified to be binary compatible with SOL 10, so we were forced to go back to SOL9.
SunSolve makes PatchManager and PatchPro available for free download to Solaris 8 users. Update Connection is available to Solaris 10 users. Solaris 9 users seem to be in a position to pay for a service plan to get updates.
We purcased 2 Sun Servers at the same time. The x86 server is running Linux, which we have no trouble getting free updates for, particularly security updates.
I'm thinking that maybe I need to switch our Sun SPARC server to OpenSolaris to get the same kind of benefits we are used to with Linux.
    Comments, suggestions, anyone?
    Thanks!
    John

After being told by many people in these forums that I could get the PatchManager and patches here for free, and going thru much frustration trying, I called the school's local Sun dealer.
The Sun dealer told me that since Sun released Solaris for FREE download, Sun is requiring a support contract to get updates and patches. Basically, the support contracts pay for the "FREE" O/S.
The Sun web pages kept insisting I have a support contract, so what the Sun dealer told me concurs with what I ran into on here.
Thanks for trying to help. I do appreciate it.

Is there an Apache bridge for Solaris 8 running on an x86 platofrm yet? Obviously, the one for SPARC systems doesn't work...

Unfortunately, we do not ship separate modules. It is unfortunate that
Redhat has chosen 2.0.40 as their base version and to backport fixes

that base version. The reason this is unfortunate is that the rest of

Is there any chance you can build your own version ?

The problem with that is that the vendor supported,
