Solaris server reboot
I dont know if this is the right place to post this question or not but i am still posting it here hoping that someone will answer i is it is very critical-->
I create a new partition /u08 on on Test and everything was fine. Today i did it on PROD(solaris 9 64 bit) and faced a serious problem. Actually this time after creating/labeling partition and file system i forgot to execute the command explicitly-->mount /u08
I just edited the vfstab table and then gave reboot.but now the server is not coming up after reboot. It is giving "connection timeout". On test server, i gave mount /u08 and then edited the vfstab table and then reboot. Is this the reason why is the server is not coming up?How do i resolve it. i am accessing the server remotely.
Thanks
Hsawwan , Thanks for the update...In my case / is mounted on "
/dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0 " (if this info is required) and "/dev/dsk/c1t2d0s5 " was wrongly typed as "/dev/dsk/c1t2dos5 " in vfstab file...can you please list the steps--
1. Booting the system to single-user mode>boot cdrom -s
2. Running the fsck command on the mirror volume>Is this still required?if yes wt do i give?
3. Remounting file system read-write>is this still required? If yes wt do i give?
5. Verifying that the /etc/vfstab file correctly references the volume for the file system entry>I will change "/dev/dsk/c1t2d0s5 /dev/rdsk/c1t2dos5 /u08 ufs 2 yes -"
to "/dev/dsk/c1t2d0s5 /dev/rdsk/c1t2dos5 /u08 ufs 2 yes -"
6.Rebooting>reboot
Thanks a lot!

Databases are not coming up after server reboot(sun solaris).
Hi
OS - Sun OS 5.10 local zone. RDBMS version - 11.2.0.3
Databases are not coming up after server reboot.
We have verified the below points.
Cat/etc/init.d/oracle
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/oradism file permissions are 4550.
lock_sga is parameter set to false.
cat /var/opt/oracle/oratab entries are set to Y
Still Databases are not coming up after server reboot.
Please advise.Hi,
Can you post further information from alert log. Doesn't coming up, means you needs to share the information some thing about your environmente settings about kernel parameter and init$ORACLE_SID parameters details.
That would be easy for others to look into it further to analyze things.

Post server reboot , instance 1 crashes on starting the second one
Hi ,
We had a server reboot ( Solaris SPARC 64 bit) and had to shutdown the application running on RAC system on 2 servers.
now post the activity , we are trying to bring up the instances but whenever one comes up the other goes down.
If we try to start the second one , first goes down.
Oracle database version : 10.2.0.3.0
Alert logs for both have been mentioned below :

How to find out the info regarding Solaris, server hang or shutdown.
Hi
As I am handling the Solaris 9 Server remotely.
As in last week the server has stopped to respond suddenly, we have tried to ping, ssh which was not working. As ultimately we have asked the Data Centre Team to hard reboot the same, to resolve the issue.
In the same ref I would like to know how we come to know the reason, what caused to reboot the same, i.e . any log file, etc..
I have check /var/adm/messages, but not found any detail for the same.
Thanks
Rajan
INo core files?
No hope for an answer.
As you learned in the other Internet forum.
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/solaris-opensolaris-20/how-to-find-out-the-info-regarding-solaris-server-hang-or-shutdown.-621500/
To get such corefiles analyzed,
you would need to use your service contract and log a support case with Sun.
They have the special software tools to do that. -
Oracle 10G Db Starts-up After Server Reboot, BUT Goes DOWN After Some Time
Hi All,
I am really puzzled over this one. I have couple of servers running DB on them and I have used scripts to auto-enable them when server(s) reboot.
But there is one server where I see this funny behavior.
The DB comes-up after server reboot.
I can verify that in the startup logs and some more logs that I created.
I can see that LISTENER is able to communicate also.
But after a while, the DB shuts-down....!!
I have checked all the places I could. I have also tried to see the difference between this server and others (I did not install this one), but can not see any difference.
Is there anyway to find out (log) what is shutting down the DB??
Any help will be much appreciated as I am at my wits end.
Following is snap-shot from my logs:

After a server reboot - How to ensure Database starts automatically
Hi all,
I have an Oracle9i database on Solaris 8. The Solaris server is a bit unstable at the moment ans sometimes reboots itself. I set the last column in the oratab file to Y (on Solaris, it's in /var/opt/oracle/oratab), but Oracle still doesn't automatically start after a reboot.
Does anyone know of any other settings that will enable the DB to auto-restart after a reboot?
RegardsFor Auto Startup and Shutdown of Database and Listener
1)
Login as root and modify /etc/oratab file and change last character to Y for apropriate database.
ORCL:/opt/oracle/111:Y
-------->> before changing it should look like ORCL:/opt/oracle/111:N
2)
As root user create new file "oracle" (init script for startup and shutdown the database) in /etc/init.d/ directory with following content:
#!/bin/bash
# oracle Init file for starting and stopping
# Oracle Database. Script is valid for 10g and 11g versions.
# chkconfig: 35 80 30
# description: Oracle Database startup script
# Source function library.

stop)
echo -n $"Stopping Oracle DB:"
su - $ORACLE_OWNER -c "$ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbshut $ORACLE_HOME"
echo "OK"
echo $"Usage: $0 {start|stop}"

3)
Execute (as root) following commands (First script change the permissions, second script is configuring execution for specific runlevels):
chmod 750 /etc/init.d/oracle
chkconfig add oracle level 035 -

Any way there is one more solution which worked.
Step 1 . Install Oracle Forms 10.1.2.0.2
Step 2. Copy jacob.jar in java home
Step 3. Copy jacob.dll into webutil directory in forms directory.

NFS: server reboot - client problem with "file handle" - no unmont
Hello,
when I restart a NFS-server and a client has a NFS-share on it still mounted, that NFS-share becomes unusable on the client: everything causes the client complain about an old "file handle", even trying to unmount that share!
So my question is: How to deal gracefully with a NFS-server reboot and avoiding this file handle problem?
Apart from going to each client and unmount the NFS-share by hand?
Thanks!Do I need to Give these values manually again as they are moved from Env to other?
When we transport ID objects, the values stored in the channel get lost and have to be manually enetered......it happens even for DEV --> QA environment.
Now your channel should reflect PROD-related data.
2- Why my Receiver communiation channel coimg as
Communication Channel | PRD_400 | RFC_QA3_Receiver:
The channel name does not depend on the environment it is present....verify the name once again!

RE: NT Server Reboot and Forte Partitions[Ref:C943460]
Hi Bradley.
At our customers, we need one of our Forte applications to be running for data
communications to take place. After a reboot, we need this application's
partitions to come online. The way we did this (as you suggested) was to use a
BAT file, and then install this as an NT service (we used a utility that comes
with the NT resource kit - srvany).
This works fine for us. One of the issues we had was that the partitions tried
to come online before Oracle was running - this resulted in the dbsessions
failing and the partitions not coming online. We got round this by preceding
starting the partitions with a loop that polled Oracle until it was up. Needless
to say, piping all output to log files was essential for us to figure out what
was going on.
Hope this helps,

Subject: NT Server Reboot and Forte Partitions [Ref:C943460]
I have a system administration question for users with NT servers in
their Forte environment. If I have installed Forte partitions on an NT
server which I would like to startup when the server is rebooted, then
what are my options for scripting this to happen automatically?
Currently the only Forte process on the server which starts up
automatically is the Forte node manager, through the installed NT
service. I have been contemplating setting up a BAT file process as an
NT service which would wait for the Forte node manager service to start,
and then execute an fscript file to start the required forte partitions.
How is this situation being handled in other environments? Thanks.

I am not sure if this is the right solution in the long run, but if you
login into NT after reebot you can create a simple client that "pings" your
service objects and put the shortcut into the Startup Group. I think such a
client may also be useful to monitor your Forte server for application
specific parameters, instead of relying only on logs/econsole.

Repoint Audit database in BO XI 3.1 SP3 running on Solaris Server
Hi,
We need to repoint to new Audit database in Solaris server which is running BO XI 3.1 SP3 .What steps we need to follow to do that? Do we require root privileges for that?
Really appreciate your the help
Regards,
AnshumanHi,
you can repoint the Audit DB but you cant move the content of the Audit DB with BO functions. If you want to move the content aswell you have to use DB functions for that. The process would look like:
1. Create the new DB
2. Create the connection to the new DB on the BOE Host
3. Run cmsdbsetup.sh to point the Audit DB to the new DB
4. Import the Audit Universe and configure the Universe connection to point to the new DB

Hyperlink to Document on Solaris Server
Hi All,
I would like to create a hyperlink to a PDF document physically located on a Solaris Server, in the text that appears in the email notification that is delivered to an SAP user's outlook inbox. The text is the task description of a step of the workflow. I know the method where you use transaction SO72 to create hypertext text modules and then use these in the task descritpion. But I would like the hyperlink to go to a document in a specific path on the Solaris server.
Is this the correct method to use? If it is, then what's left to do? If it is not, please specify the method I need to use.
