Solaris Support verification
I want to be sure about the following statements. True or False?
WL5.1 sp6 is does not yet support Solaris 8.
WL5.1 sp6 does support JDK1.2.2_005
WLCS 3.1 does not yet support Solarius 8.
WLCS 3.1 does not yet support JDK1.2.2_005 (it does support 1.2.1_04 w/
patches)
WLCS 3.1 does not yet support Oracle 8.1.6
So...the appserver supports an newer jdk that the commerce server.
Does WLCS 3.1.1 support Oracle 8.1.6, Solaris 8, jdk1.2.2 ?

I can speak for WLS 5.1. The platform support page for WebLogic Server is
located at:
http://www.weblogic.com/platforms/index.html
This page has the latest and greatest information on the platforms that
WebLogic is certified and supported on.
Thanks,

Does Solaris support GPT?
Any idea does the latest version of the Solaris support GPT (GUID Partition Table)?
Thanks,

Go take a peek in Google.
Use keyword `gpt` for your search.
First result: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GUID_Partition_Table
Perhaps leave that Wikipedia reference as a bookmark in your browser, so as to have a reference for changes that might appear.
See section 6.1 of that Wikipedia entry:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GUID_Partition_Table#Unix-class_operating_systems
Additionally, using gpt + solaris for Google keywords, there are additional links to be found.
Lastly, here is a forum discussion from September 2010:
OVM server cannot install on GPT boot partition
Granted, it involves GPT and Linux, but there are points in there to consider with regards to your choices for hardware. -
OEM Cloud Control 12c R2 Solaris Support ?
Hi folks,
We have a Solaris x86 server that I want to use as an OEM Cloud Control platform. I am reading Oracle installation and configuration documents, and this link seems to state that neither Solaris x86 nor SPARC Solaris are supported as OEM Cloud Control operating systems: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24628_01/install.121/e22624/preinstall_req_packages.htm#CHDEHHCA (see tables 3.1 and 3.2).
Since this product can be downloaded [here |http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/oem/grid-control/downloads/solx86soft-086409.html], I am confused as to why the official, right of the download page installation instructions state that Solaris x86 deployments for this tool are not supported.
I am reading this incorrectly, right? The OEM Cloud Control is supported on Solaris x86?
Thanks much. The "Not Supported" comment is in the column labeled "32-Bit Packages for 32-Bit Platform." 64-bit Solaris SPARC and x86-64 are supported as documented in Table 3-1: 64-Bit Packages for 64-Bit Platform

Solaris support booting from san ?
Does anyone know if Solaris 10 supports booting from a san fabric lun ? In particular, an IBM DS4800.
The installer doesn't see the luns when it comes time to choose a disk to install on, only the internal disks.
The server is a IBM LS20 blade. I've managed to install Sol. 10 on the internal drives and can see the luns on the DS4800.
I'm using Solaris 10 Express 10/05 x86/64.
Brian.Do you see the luns after boot? I'm wondering if there isn't a driver for your controller in the default installation environment. I would assume one could be added (that being one of the big benefits of newboot). Especially if you could create a jumpstart server. (It's easer to add a driver to it than to burn a new CD/DVD).

Does Solaris support VRRP?
Can you run Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol on Solaris 2.6 or greater?
Solaris 9 and 10 have the cdrw(1) command to write CD or DVD
media using an MMC-compliant CD/DVD recorder device.
On Solaris 9 you may have to install the latest cdrw patch to get
DVD support. -

If you are keen to help out or know of someone who might be or know of a forum/list I should be posting on instaed of here, please let me know - [email protected]
Cheers
MarkHi Mark..
I am not a contractor, but work as a Solaris, come Oracle 11i Apps DBA for a company in the Sydney CBD. We have 3 Sun servers and in particular a T2000. It come pre-loaded with Sol 10 Jan/06 ufs version. The pre-loaded version wasn't out desired setup, so I used the DVD's vai ALOM port connection to reinstall Sol 10 from scratch. Its not too difficult. However, I am waiting for the Sol 10 jun/06 media to resintall that version of the O/S to take advantage (if there is any) of the new zfs file system. If you would like some hits on what I found out ...give me a call on 9295-4800...cheers Roger -

Do we have request_firmware() kind of support in Solaris
I need to copy firmware from userspace to kernel space. In linux a native kernel function request_firmare() does that.
Does Solaris support this kind of function.
Any other suggestions to do this activity are also welcome.
Thanks
nbsinghHello
You can use just "regular" file I/O in your driver. You may look at the [old version of the lofi driver in OpenSolaris|http://src.opensolaris.org/source/xref/onnv/onnv-gate/usr/src/uts/common/io/lofi.c?r=0] to see an example for this (I never did that although I wrote some drivers).
The driver.conf file can be used to store the full file name of the firmware but you may also use a fixed file name (such as /etc/myfirmware.bin).

SOLARIS OS Support for Advance Format Hard Drives
Hello,
I am fairly new to the UNIX Operating System so I'm hoping that someone can help me. Does Solaris support the new Advance Format hard drives (4k sector boundaries)? I cannot find any mention of the advance format drive in the Oracle literature. I believe, based on my recent reading that Open Source Solaris depends on ZFS to handle the support of the new 4kbyte sector size.
Thank you in advance for any information you can supply.

This post has been moved to the Solaris 10 forum.
@ O.P.,
You originally posted your inquiry to the Clustering forum, which has nothing to do with the topic of disk cluster size.
Glance at the documentation for Oracle Cluster 4.0 to see what clustering is all about. -
