Hi Alex, we are also using tuxedo 32-bit on Solaris 64-bit operating
system. There
is no problem doing this as your solaris version supports both 32 bit
and 64 bit
programs. The things to watch out for are when you are building a tuxedo
application,
you have to make sure that all the libraries you link with are also 32
bit libraries,
including oracle. We ran into build problems when some libraries were
32 bit
and others were 64 bit.
There's good information about 32bit v 64bit on solaris at the following
web site...
http://docs.sun.com/?p=/doc/806-6543/6jffrdmee&a=view
I personally would use 64bit if possible, but it's no big deal to build
32 bit
applications because my tuxedo application does not need a 64bit address
space
and is not computationally heavy. Most of the CPU takes place in the
database,
which in our case is Oracle, and which happens to be 64bit anyway. So
it's not
a bad thing to build a 32 bit tuxedo application that runs on a 64 bit
operating
system, for most types of tuxedo applications.

Hi again :
you link show that :
Sun Solaris 8 tuxedo v8.0 Native 64-bit version - SPARC
Sun Solaris 8 SPARC X *(using 2.7 32-bit binaries)
32-bit on 64-bit OS supported
Then Tuxedo 8.0 32.bit ruuning on Solaris 8 64-bit. OK
there is support from Bea . Is that is correct ???
I'll need used Tuxedo 64-bit ,you could benefit in performance.
Thanks Thanks ...

Scott Orshan <[email protected]> wrote:
If the platform list shows that a 32-bit build is certified on a 64bit
OS, then you can run it there.
If you want an actual 64 bit build, it is because you want the big
address space, longer longs in FML, and everything else you get from
64
bits.
If you want to have an application span Solaris and Digital UNIX, which
is always 64 bit, you might want both to be 64 bits so that you do
not
lose any data in the conversion.
On HP, you can't link 32-bit Tuxedo with another product that is 64-bit
(Oracle for example). You might need a 64 bit Tuxedo in order to work
with other products.

Install error for Oracle 10g on Solaris x86 64-bit. NETCA won't run
Hi All,
I'm installing Oracle 10.2.0.1 on Solaris x86 64-bit. I run the Oracle installer and all runs well until the NETCA portion of the install. It then errors (error file below). When i attempt to run NETCA outside of the installer i'm getting the same error output. I have verified my OS version and that all dependent packages are installed. I'm not sure what is causing this. Any help would be greatly appriciated.
thanks, dave

How to upgrade oracle 32 to 64 bit on sun solaris x86 64 bit OS?
Hi,
I want to upgrade/convert 32 bit Oracle Database 10.2.0.2 to 64 bit database. Existing 32 bit database is RAC and it is running on Sun Solaris X86 64 bit OS.
First, I want to know is it possible?
If yes, then what are the exact steps?Hi,
Such a migration can be done, just follow the steps in Metalink note 62290.1
It is important to remember that 64-bit database requires more shared pool memory so you should increase your shared pool size.

Hard coded links in R12.1.1 SOLARIS 10 64 bit Rapid Install stack
Hi,
Just a heads up for anyone using the Solaris 10 64 bit Rapid Install.
I am doing a 11.5.10.2 > 12.1.1 upgrade on Solaris 10 64-bit.
On my Rapid Install delivered R12.1.1 tech stack there are some hard coded links to Oracle test server files in the 10.1.2 and 10.1.3 lib32 directories. Which is not a good thing - it stops little things like adpatch working!
e.g.
$ cd $ORACLE_HOME/lib32
$ ls -l ldflags
$ lrwxrwxrwx 1 appdugc dba 56 Feb 4 16:21 ldflags -> */d4/R12/ab/apps/R1211XB9/*apps/tech_st/10.1.2/lib/ldflags
This leads to libclntsh.so not being generated and errors like this when running adpatch:
ld.so.1: adpatch: fatal: /*/*/*/apps/tech_st/10.1.2/lib/libclntsh.so.10.1: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
Killed
The fix is to recreate the soft links to point to the correct local mount points/paths
How on earth did that slip through?
I raised an SR on this issue and got no where at all. I only got to the bottom of it when I noticed the /d4/R12 path and googled that. I then found Vikram's article at http://oracleappstechnology.blogspot.com/2009/09/r1211-apache-wont-start.html and realised that it was the cause of my problems too.
Edited by: user6675174 on 16-Feb-2010 00:45Hello All,

Dear All,
DB version - 10.2.0.1 enterprise edition
os - oracle Solaris spark 64 bit
We want to patch the above mentioned DB version to 10.2.0.5 so that we can have the repository database of oracle enterprise manager 12.1.0.4
While looking for pre upgrade check we found.
SQL> @utlu102i.sql
Oracle Database 10.2 Upgrade Information Utility 09-02-2014 19:07:43
Database:
--> name: RNDDB
--> version: 10.2.0.1.0
--> compatible: 10.2.0.1.0
Database already upgraded; to rerun upgrade use rdbms/admin/catupgrd.sql.
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
So, My question is is it possible to upgrade/patch the above version to 10.2.0.5 and if yes can you please post the steps here .
Like the patch no which I can apply or any other way.
With Regards
Nimai KarmakarHi
You need to download 10.2.0.5 patchset via patch 8202632 and Install the 10.2.0.5.0 patchset on top of existing 10.2.0.X.0 ORACLE_HOME
And Finish the post installation steps as per the patchset README
Note: Please backup DB and oracle binary prior to activity.

When is OSM 7.0 available on Sun Solaris Sparc 64 bit ?
Hi
Does anyone know when is version 7.0 of OSM will be available for download for Sun Solaris SPARC (64bit) ?
Currently, only version 6.3.1 is available from edeliver.oracle.com for Sparc 64bit, as far as I can see, I can only find "Oracle Communications Order and Service Management 6.x Media Pack".
For Linux, version 7.0 was made available on edelivery.oracle.com early this year.

OSM 7.0 for Solaris Sparc 64-bit and for HP-UX Itanium were both made available on Oracle E-Delivery (www.edelivery.oracle.com) as of earlier this week. -

Panic: on Solaris 7 64 bit
Ppl,
Mandar here. With the same problem of driver crashing on Solaris 7 64 bit. To just refresh you on whats happening.. i am developing a driver for a network device, under Solaris 7 for ultra sparc. This is a 32 bit PCI device. i am seeing a system crash while allocating dma resources. I have compiled the driver using -xarch=v9 for making it 64 bit. I could map device registers, add intr but the dma resource allocation crashes. My driver shares memory with the device. I tried to use, ddi_dma_alloc_handle followed by ddi_dma_mem_alloc and then ddi_dma_addr_bind_handle. The first two calls succeed without any problem.. the system crashes in the third call. I tried this, another way, using ddi_iopb_alloc followed by ddi_dma_addr_setup.. then i see the crash in ddi_dma_addr_setup
I had just kept this aside for a while, as I found that these same dma resource allocation sequences worked well on Solris 7 32 bit. So I proceeded with my 32 bit driver. This driver is now done, and running well. i got back to the problem on 64 bit. It is persisting. tried a lot of things.. but no success.. tried to plug the device in a 64 bit pci slot , link the driver using ld from /usr/ccs/bin/sparcv9/ld.. nothing rally works.
does anybody know, what the problem can be? Big diff, is the sequence works on 32 bit and crashes on 64 bit..
Looking forward to some help..
Thanks,
MandarHi,
There are no 64 bit static "system" libraries supplied with Solaris 7.
So there is no question of linking them with the executable.
You may create your own 64 bit static library and link with the executable.
Thanks

Solaris 9 32-bit application 256 descriptors
Hi,
There is a bug in Solaris, a 32-bit application running on 64-bit Solaris cannot open more than 256 descriptors. I read the article from Giri Mandalika http://developers.sun.com/solaris/articles/stdio_256.html. There is a solution for Solaris 10 described in that article. Is there any solution for Solaris 9? Was that solution backported to Solaris 9?
Any hint is appreciated.
TomasHello.
This limitation is not a limitation of the Solaris operating system but of the libc library.
A simple workaround could be:
FILE *myfiles[1000];
int i;
// won't work if more than 256 files are open...
for(i=0;i<1000;i++) myfiles=fopen(names[i],"w");
for(i=0;i<1000;i++) fprintf(myfiles[i],"%u\n",i);
Workaround - NOT TESTED:FILE *f;
int myfiles[1000];
int i;
for(i=0;i<1000;i++) myfiles[i]=creat(names[i],0644);
for(i=0;i<1000;i++)
f=fdopen(dup(myfiles[i]),"w");
fprintf(f,"%u\n",i);
// fclose() will only close the handle duplicate returned by dup() !!
fclose(f);
-- EDIT --
Tested on Solaris 9/Sparc:
- You have to use "ulimit -n" to allow an application to use more than 256 file descriptors (maximum is 1024).
- If more than 256 files are open "dup" and "dup2" will cause an SIGSEGV - obviously a bug in Solaris.
Maybe you can use the following combination instead of using "fprintf":len=sprintf(buffer,...);
write(file[i],buffer,len);
I'm not sure if "write" etc. cause SIGSEGVs when more than 256 files are open.
