Solaris Windows 2000 Interoperability

I do not know if this is the right place to ask this question but here it goes :
I am going to use a Series 3000 Sun server for a project, it is a great machine but one of the applications that is needed to work in this project is built on NT.
So we have to find a way to use the server for the NT application, what would be the recomendation.
We thought in two solutions :
1.) The first one is to use an emulator like Wabi or Sun's co-processor but does this solution guarantees that I am going to use my eight processors, is there a way to workaround with this approach ?
2.) The second is to build a strong integration between NT application and the main application in Solaris, but this mean to share memory and processor workload, do you know any suggestions to solve the situation
Thanks in advance
Alberto Saavedra

Hi heliangbin,
I was also thinking of upload components, but this may reduce the execution speed of the application server.
I am searching for a facility like Samba server for SUN W2K connection.
Thanking You,
Karan.

  • Solaris & Windows 2000 Problems???

I've mounted my windows partition so that solaris can see it, via the vfstab file in the /etc directory.
Whenever I try to copy files from my windows partition to my solaris partition i get the following error: "Invalid device or address"
What I'm wondering now is if Windows 2000 has some protection of its file structure where other systems can read it?
Has anyone else experienced problems such as this??
I recently did the same procedures on my laptop running Solaris 8 and win 98 and I had no problem copying files over...
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

That won't help. The iPod classic requires version 7.4 which will not run on Windows 2000. It just will not install period.

  • Solaris 2.7 with Windows 2000

My name is Per Persson and i'm a student from Sweden. I wonder if you know how to implement kerberos in Solaris 2,7 or if you know any good sites with information about it. I want to be able to connect to a Windows 2000 server from an account in a solaris 2,7. How do i use kerberos to get an secure login to my server. Both machines are in the same lockal network and they are the only two computers in the net.

    Tim,
you are perfectly right: that Vintela product is not certified (as SNC solution).
But you are not quite right regarding the separate treatment. The major difference between that product and the SNC certified products (such as CyberSafe, Entrust, ...) is: Vintela uses different SNC libraries on the client side (=> our Windows SSPI wrappers, see <a href="http://service.sap.com/~iron/fm/011000358700000431401997E/352295">SAP note 352295</a>) and the server side (=> their own SNC library, not certified). And that is actually also one reason why that solution cannot be certified ...
Well, those Windows SSPI wrappers provided by SAP (=> gsskrb5.dll, for example) are also not "SNC certified", but SAP provides support (being in contact with Microsoft). Well, as some people might know, there are also some interoperability issues between different Microsoft OS versions ... - resulting in reactive patches of our SSPI wrappers.
I really do <u>not</u> want to promote <u>any</u> product - neither the one of Quest Software Inc., nor the one of <a href="http://www.cybersafe.ltd.uk/">CyberSafe Ltd</a>, nor <a href="http://www.entrust.com">Entrust Inc.</a>, nor <a href="http://www.secude.com/">SECUDE IT Security GmbH</a>, nor ...
I do not even want to disencourage anyone from implementing his own Kerberos-based solution (or any other solution which provides an GSS API), provided that this person is able to help himself. Reason: if products of different vendors are used and interoperability problems occur the usual finger-pointing will start. In the end you'll not get support by anyone ... - as long as you are aware of this (and capable of helping yourself) you can go ahead. Some (known) universities are belonging to that group ... - but it might not be appropriete to the vast majority of customers.

  • Map a drive from Windows 2000 to Solaris directory

Solaris is new to me. So, please forgive me if I do not have technical terms correct. We recently installed Solaris (SunOS 5.7). Is there a way to map a drive to a Solaris directory from a Windows 2000 workstation? I tried to do a NET USE j: \\123.123.123.123\home /user:root *, and I receive the following error:
    System error 67 has occurred.
The network name cannot be found.
Is there something I need to do on the server to make this work? I was reading about the share command in Solaris. Is this what I need?
    Thanks in advance!

You will need to install Samba on your UNIX box or install Microsoft Windows Services for UNIX...
Samba is probably easiest...both are free...

  • From Windows 2000 to Solaries

I have windows 2000 with IIS server as web server and ASP for webapplication development. A new server of SUN Ultra with solaries 9 is installed. I want to know how can i switch over from Windows platform to Solaries. I also want to know how to setup a Apache web server

Since ASP doesn't run natively on any UNIX, you're going to need some extra software.
I found the following article which seems to explain a lot about the subject matter. It also makes a suggestion which software to use.

  • Solaris 8 and windows 2000 network

    Hi Gururs,
I have two windows 2000 servers and one Solaris 8 Intel server. Windows servers can ping solaris server but Solaris server can't ping windows servers. I have added solaris server in hosts file in windows. Also added win servers in hosts file in solaris and resolv.conf file. But not working. I tried to add the IP address of one window server as default router but got message Unknow host/gateway. Please help and guide how can I network all 3 servers using a hub switch and ethernet cards. Thank you.

the problem is that solaris requires its dns server that its connecting through to issue it a hostname where as with windows machine the have a hostname configured locally. So if you goto in the DNS management console in win2k and make a record for the Solaris box with its IP address & hostname you'll find that should solve your problem

  • 9iFS R2 on Windows 2000 repeated install failure - help !!

    Hi All,
here is a desperate plea for help with 9iFS R2 on Windows 2000, service pack 2, the story so far ....
    1) clean install of windows 2000 with service pack 2, network configured and working.
    2) install Oracle 9i R2 database and configure tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora as per the oracle by example documents for R2
    3) reboot machine and all service come up fine
    4) install Oracle 9i R2 Application Service with option A to just install web server and cache stuff. This is installed in its own oracle home, all seems fine, reboot the machine.
    5) all the services come up fine ( so far so good eh !! )
    6) follow the pre-installation for 9iFS R2 ( as per the solaris install notes as i can't find any windows specific ones ). This includes the creation of a tnsnames.ora file in 9iashome\9ifs\network\admin, checking of the configuration required for 9iFS, all seems fine. Reboot the machine and all services come up fine.
    7) start the 9iFS install, this is installed into the 9ias home as per the instruction. Install proceeds, enter config information, various connection tests are performed ok, and then we get to the 'configuring oracle 9iFS' screen which has a whole load of tasks which the installer then works its way through. When it gets to the 'executing setup scripts' option ( second from bottom ) it immediately throws a java exception, about 'file access denied', 'unable to create ifs directory' with no error code or anything else. The configuration screen then exits, and says installation complete successfully ! As you can imagine it hasnt, and nothing is configured. I have repeated this 4 full times now, reading the oracle install docs very carefully. Same thing every time. However, and this is the strange part. If at that point, I uninsall 9iFS using the oracle installer, and then try and reinstall 9iFS again, when it gets to the section of where to create the schema, and i tell it the same IFSSYS as the one created previously, it will then warn me its going to delete it and create a new one with the same name. I select 'yes' create it again and this time the install completes with no errors ! Hurray you think, ahhhh BUT....
    8) reboot the machine, start up the browser to point at the local machine port 1810, and log in successfully. Then select the node on port 15x41 ( sorry cant quite remember port number ) as per the post installation docs, and told to 'launch it'. This i do, providing the administration account user name and password which has been used to install everything so far. Explorer sits for about 60 seconds then returns to the screen with the portal node still down. I have tried starting the node and domain to no avail, both fail to start with no reason for the failure and nothing in the 9iFS\logs to explain whats failing - sigh.
    OK the questions
    1) why do i initially get this file access denied problem so failing the install - is this a known windows problem ?
    2) When i do get the install to complete by reinstall 9iFS and rebuilding the schema can I not then start the node or domain ?
In effect I am installing all these on a single machine with 1 Gig of memory for evaluation and prototyping as a possible Document Management System which we can build custom solutions upon. With being unable to install it at all we are at a total loss. Can some one save my sanity and remaining hair and offer some help/suggestions as to why this is not working ?
    best regards
    Tom

    Thomas,
thanks for your hints, it helped me quite well getting iFS installed on my machine! But when I try to start iFS from the administration GUI I do have excactly the same problem like you:
start up the browser to point at the local machine port 1810,
and log in successfully. Then select the node on port 15x41
as per the post installation docs, and told to 'launch it'.
This i do, providing the administration account user name and
password which has been used to install everything so far.
Explorer sits for about 60 seconds then returns to the screen
with the portal node still down. I have tried starting the
node and domain to no avail, both fail to start with no reason
for the failure and nothing in the 9iFS\logs to explain whats
failing - sigh.At first my thought was iAS might have problems with special characters in the admin's name or password (due to security guidelines we had to change the admin's name). But also with alphanumeric name and password it doesn't work.
Furthermore, also starting iFS using the BATch files doesn't work always. The services seem to start up correctly, but I'm not able to connect via share, FTP, HTTP or anything.
It got worse when I accidently called "ifsundeployear.bat": after that I no longer was able to redeploy the iFS's EAR, I only get error messages complaining inconsistency between local config files and the repository. Logfiles didn't help at all. So at the moment I'm reinstalling everything once more, sigh.
Did ANYONE get iFS started the way it's supposed to be under Windows 2000?

  • Oracle 8.1.7 for Unix and Windows 2000 Active Directory

Is it possible to integrate the users and passwords of an Oracle Database running on Solaris with the users and passwords defined in a Windows 2000 Active Directory? What are the requirements and the necesary steps?
I've read the documentation and it shows how to do it if you install Oracle in a Windows 2000 Server, but it does not mention about installing it in any kind of Unix.

You should consider to base your firm security and central user repository on REALLY SECURE and ROBUST product technology. Not on Windows 2000 Active Directory. Win2K AD is known to be slow and insecure. If you have Oracle on Solaris your data is secure and next step is to move user accounts to real user repository. It may be one of well-known LDAP servers. Try to read some materials on CERT Coordination Center (http://www.cert.org) which describe LDAP servers. After this you can choose the server which best suite your needs.

  • Error when installing RAC on windows 2000

    Hi,
I'm installing Oracle 9i(9.0.1.1.1 EE) RAC for the first time. It has been an interesting experience,
with many bumps in the road. But now I'm stuck.
I have installed the 9i EE software, but when I try to create a database ( using DBCA), I get an error :
PRKR-1005 : adding of cluster database cludb configuration failed, PRKC-1018 : Error getting coordinator node
The error occurs after I have finished configurating, and the actual database creation starts.
I did get another error earlier : PRKR-1028 "raw device \\.\srvcfg is invalid, [HINT: initialize raw device by using
    'srvconfig' tool]
That error disappeared after running srvconfig -init.
I have restarted the Oracle GSD services on both machines, but I still get the same error.
The OS is Windows 2000 Advanced Server, running on a Compaq Cluster.

  • Can not install Oracle 9i R2 on Windows 2000

I can not install Oracle 9i R2 on Win 2000. It failed at 48% with this message.
Error in writing to file C:
    \oracle\ora92\oem_webstage\oem_webstage_8.jar
I tried by copying the 3 disks to my hard drive and reinstall but not success.
    Help me please.
    Thanks
    Ken Wongho

I've been able to install 9iAS on Windows 2000 - I have the Origin database on a Solaris machine.
Your best bet is to have all 3 folders Disk1/Disk2/Disk3 on your computer and the run the install from there. I didn't have the disk space on my computer and ran it from a shared drive.
I'm currently in the post install section trying to Configure cache, and wondering if it's still working or hung up.
The 9iAS Installation took 3 1/2 days to run - I have a 300 Mhz PC with about 380 RAM. The Cache Configuration has been running for over 26 hours.
I don't know if this helps but I hope it does.
I didn't experience any of the problems you have.
    Hope this helps

  • Has anyone had success with Messaging Server 5.2 under Windows 2000 Server?

Just to be up front - we MUST use Windows 2000 - they're not giving me a choice to move to Solaris or Sun Hardware. Linux isn't even a choice, nor is WinNT. (I know, it's annoying).
I've managed to get Directory Server 5.1 to run under windows 2000 without active directory installed. I found that I needed to modify the ims_dssetup.pl script that comes with the Messaging Server 5.2 to reference the full path to my ldapsearch and ldapmodify executables. Apparently, this is a win2k specific problem, and is not necessary on WinNT. This made ims_dssetup.pl work and the install of Messaging Server 5.2 work on a windows 2000 machine.
However, at reboot, the job controller and dispatcher do not automatically start. When I try to start the services manually, I get "Error 1067: The Service terminiated unexpectedly".
Any ideas? I'm desperate here - they're gonna make us use exchange if I can't get >>something<< working. Even a 4.x version of messaging server will do.
    Thanks

    Well, I do understand that.
However, I've installed iMS 5.2 on win2k several times (I admit, w2k pro, not server), and i've never installed AD.
If you can get it installed and working for your default domain, but not for other domains, then most likely it has nothign to do with AD or AD domains. iMS idea of domains is very different from AD's idea of domains. We need to be very clear about such.
for iMS, you have to create additional domains through Delegated Admin, as either "Hosted Domains" or as "Vanity Domains". We do not suggest using "Vanity Domains", and support for such is deprecated.
Once you have created "Hosted Domains" through Delegated Admin, you can add users to those domains, and they should work, just fine.

  • Joining a Windows 2000 domain

Can I join my Sun Solaris 8 server running Samba to a Windows 2000 domain so that all the users that logon or use shares will authenticate thru the domain controllers with their Win accounts?
I dont want to create 1500 Solaris accounts.

there is a sun product called Sun PC Net Link that could help you
synchronazing user accounts in Windows env. and Solaris
you can map the accounts from one env. to the other.
we use this product since many years and have migrate fm

    good luck ...
