Solaris x86 on Compaq DL360 (P21) server

I am having issues installing this OS on the server in the title... it is a DL360 with Dual PIII 998 processors and 1.4G RAM.
I setup the RAID controller at statup to use RAID1 with 2 x 36G drives.... and then boot from the Solaris Disk 1 (no the installer disk)...
I am using the RAID controller driver supplied from Compaq for Solaris 8 and at the first stage it successfully is added during the installation process....
The process goes through as per expected, setup network, setup drive layout and even install required OS modules.. then it happens....
... the request to insert the disk holding file CPQARY2 pops up, disk is inserted but the message 'file cannot be found on disk' is returned....
Silly thing is that the system has already used this driver from this disk to load the HDD RAID conntroller info into memory... it even installs to the disks with no problems....
Is this an issue because the drivers are for Sol8 and not 9??... and does anyone know where and if I can get the drivers for 9??.. they are not on the website for this server model....

did you make any experiance regarding Solaris 10 X86 ?No, but...
Unfortunately there is no Solaris 10 driver for the
built in SmartArray of the DL360 (P21) available.... I expect that the same workaround is OK for Solaris 10, that is,
rename the DU/sol_28 directory to DU/sol_210 on HP's driver
update floppy.

Hi, I am trying to install Arch on a HP (formerly Compaq) DL360 1U server.
The problem is that setup can't see the disks attached to the reaid controller, presumably because it does not have a driver for it.
Has anyone else done this, if so how was it fixed?
If not, how do I get support for it? Do I need to compile a new kernal for it? If so is there a readme or something that will help.
I do have access to many working arch box's.
    Many thanks

  • How to integrate a Solaris x86 server on Sun Management Center ?

    Hello people,

If I'm not wrong, SunMC doesn't run for Solaris x86, server and client only as console with Java.
In speat of it, I try to install Sun Management Center 3.0 Agent for Solaris x86.
It seems to be ok, install packages, but when execute es-setup script, intents to create the following directory:
    /opt/SUNWsymon/base/bin/sparc-sun-solaris2.8
I supose that in this directory, SunMC will install sparc binary files
At this point, I can't follow the installation and abort it.

could you guide please? If you still have a copy of your SunMC media around, the same ["es-inst"|http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-2215/command-line-1?l=en&a=view] program you use to install Solaris Agents should work on Linux as well. It autodetects OS type and will install Solaris packages or RPMs as appropriate.

    Hi
From the Unix prompt enter oemapp console(for v9.x). If you are using earlier versions it is oemapp console (for starting the console) and oemapp dbastudio(for starting dba studio)
For starting OMS enter: oemctrl start oms.
    Hope this helps

  • Weblogic Server 9.2 MP 3 for Solaris x86

Does anyone know where I can download weblogic server 9.2 mp 3 for Solarix x86. I have spent my entire day looking for it in support.oracle.com (metalink) and oracle download pages but nothing has turned up so far.

You can always ask via support.
There is a download on edelivery.oracle.com. Select Oracle BEA then Solaris x86 32bit - then click on BEA WebLogic Media Pack for Sun Solaris x86 (x86, x86-64)
You'll see a 9.2 MP3 ISV download, I'm not sure if that's exactly the same as the normal one or if it's only for ISV's, you'd have to ask support.

  • Can I set two router IP on my solaris x86 server?

    Hi ,
I want to make traffic balance on my office. Because we have two leased line.
I would build up NAT in the solaris x86.
Can I set two router ip in the solaris x86 server? And How to do it?
The traffic balance is work or not?
If that is not work, what can I do?
    Thanks All ^_^

Yes, you can use solaris x86 as a NAT box.
add another ethernet interface, and install
    IP-filter, or sunscreen
I suggest you search the solaris newsgroups on
http://groups.google.com for more specific links to

sparc. You can. The only problem is that it is difficult to read the information from the SPARC CD set (due to the differences in x86 and SPARC UFS filesystems).
If you have the SPARC DVD (or even just the DVD .iso), then it's easier. The same information is replicated so that it is easier to copy onto x86.
Since you only have CD drives, I'd recommend copying the DVD image to the machine, then using lofiadm to mount it up.
Once mounted, it's the same thing as on SPARC, just run the setup_install_server and add_install_client stuff.

  • Migration from Solaris Sparc server to Solaris  x86

    Hi ,
    I would like to know.
Migration from SAP ECC6 , Oracle , Solaris Sparc to Ecc6, Oracle, Solaris x86 , Is this consider Heterogeneous or Homogeneous system copy?
    Thanks.
    Best Regards,
    ck chai

Solaris on SPARC is a BIgEndian platform, Solaris on X86 is LittleEndian - so it's heterogeneous --> you need to use R3load to performa a migration - and you need to have a certified migration consultant on-site to do that migration (http://service.sap.com/osdbmigration --> FAQ).

  • Controller issue on Compaq DL360 (First Generation)

I just don't want to warm up this old thread here, but meanwhile: Is there any known solution/workaround for the problem, that an installation of sol 10 on machines of this type (or DL370s/DL380s, using the same controller) fails, ending up in the 'no disks found' problem?
I assume, I am not the only one who experienced the fact, that the folder renaming procedure of the somewhat older driver disks supplied by HP (cpqary2 for the integrated smart array controller, contained in Compaq SoftPaq SP21874, V 1.70A for Solaris 8, http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/16328.html) doesn't help any further.

  • Solaris on Dell/Compaq Multi-CPU servers?

Solaris 8 worked OK for us on a compaq proliant dl360.

  • Problems installing Sol 10 x86 on Compaq Harware

Please Help! I am a newbie to Solaris and I am trying to understand some of these postings in this thread. I am trying to install Sol 10 on a Compaq DL360 with dual proc 1.26 MHZ and 3 GB RAM. It has an imbeded 5i array controller with two 36 GB drives attached set up as RAID 0.
I have downloaded the Sol 8 UTI disk for the controller and seem to be able to successfully add the driver for installation. Note: I renamed the directory from Sol_28 to Sol_210 as instructed earlier in this thread. I get a warning message after loading the driver that says :
Solaris could not detect a primary disk.....
However, the system has detected a disk controller without a driver, and assumes that the following disk maps to the primary disk:
    /pic@0,0/pcie11,4040@1/cmdk@0,0:a
Choose continue to confirm the Solaris bootpath of the primary disk.
    I press F2 to continue.
I continue with setup and choose Interactive text console. It boots the kernel then I get some memory resource overlap warnings but setup continues. Then I get two warnings that read...
Warning: /pci@0,0 /pcie11,4040@1/sd@0,0 (sd1): Request Sense couldn't get sense data
    and
    Warning:/pci@0,0/pcie11,4040@1/sd@0,0 (sd1): Sychronize cache command failed (5)
    Setup continues...
I choose language as English and get same two warnings again. Setup continues. I enter network config info, and set root password then continue. Then installation starts and I get this error...
One or more disks are found, but one of the following problems exist:
    Hardware Failure
Unformatted diskThen I push f2_ok and I get kicked out to shell.
What am I missing? Did I miss something? I tried this on another machine, a Compaq Proliant 800 with a 4200 controller with same results. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

FYI: I tried yet another version of solaris as i found out that theres a bug in the 64-bit kernel on update 4 for alot of new processors. Solaris 10 x86 update 7 did the trick! :). Installed right away on a standard 'Solaris 10 (64 bit)' VM. I still find it strange that the most recent version of solaris 10 fails to even start the installation.

  • Mounting a Solaris x86 CD/DVD from a remote Windows CD/DVD-ROM drive

    Greetings, all.
Is it possible to mount a remote Windows CD/DVD-ROM drive? I have the Solaris 10x86 Companion Software DVD sitting in a CD/DVD-ROM drive that's installed on a Windows server on my network. It is shared-out (F:) and the two servers can ping each other. I've also confirmed the NFS services/daemons are running on the Solaris x86 machine. I've tried the following variations but, all have failed to produce successful results:
    # mount -F nfs x.x.x.x:/f /mnt
nfs mount: x.x.x.x: : RPC: Program not registered

    # mount -F hsfs x.x.x.x:/F /mnt
    mount: No such device
    mount: cannot mount x.x.x.x:/F
[FYI: S10_106_SOFTWARE is the DVD's label as reported by Windows Explorer.]

I've also tried mounting it at bootup by adding the appropriate entry in the /etc/vfstab file but, this does not work as well. I've tried Google'ing for an answer to my issue but, I haven't been able to find anything that applies directly to what I'm reporting. It's usually chatter about mounting from one UNIX server to another. Any advice from the community would be greatly appreciated.

After three weeks, you deserve a reply. Windoze does
not natively support NFS.Also deserves a decent answer...
There are two ways to do this:
Install Microsoft's free "Windows Services for UNIX," which includes a Windows NFS server; or
Install the 'sharity' package (google for it); it provides Solaris systems the ability to mount Windows shares

  • Oracle 8.1.5 Client/WLS/Solaris x86

has anyone been able to get Oracle's client 8.1.5 running on Solaris x86 in conjunction with WLS to talk to back-end Oracle? Any help would be greatly appreciated.thanks.

This will not work. We have not built the native libraries to work with
    Solaris on Intel..
I suggest trying the platform independent type 4 JDBC driver available for
free from Oracle. It is supported (as is any JDBC driver) with WebLogic
    Server. To download it:
Go to http://www.oracle.com and select the "Download" option.
From the resulting page, use the "Select Utility or Driver" dropdown to
    select Oracle JDBC drivers
From the resulting page, scroll down a little (since SQLJ stuff appears at
    the top).
    Or, to go directly there:
    http://technet.oracle.com/software/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/software_index.htm

  • From 7.3 on NT to 8 on Solaris x86?

Has Oracle ported Oracle8 for Solaris x86?

    Hi,
usually I expect people to do a little research and I do not give everything chewed.
    Point 4:
    go to the
    <b>Oracle9i Database Migration Release 2 (9.2)</b>
    go to the chapter 3
    <b>Upgrading a Database to the New Oracle9i Release</b>
    go to the point:
    <b>Upgrade the Database Manually</b>
    Exactly from here:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96530/upgrade.htm#1009200
    Keep in mind
    1) that the <i>EXACT </i>procedure you are following it is not indicated in this manual
    2) you have to think a little ( do you have all the windows services created on the destination system? if not, you have to create them ... )
    3) this procedure is not supported by SAP. It is a valid option but not supported by them. You have to practice until you get all the points correctly

  • Help with evaluation for Solaris x86

    Hello,
I would like to evaluate Oracle Identity Manager and Access Manager products at the latest version possible -- the host system(s) are Solaris x86 (SunOS .5.10) Unfortunately, I am having a bit of trouble compiling the list of packages/versions to achieve this for this platform. For instance, on the downloads page it appears that OIM is not available for Solaris x86, not even in older versions(?)
    Thank you in advance,
    Scott

    Hi Scott,
I'm pretty sure that x86 Solaris is not yet certified to run the Identity Management suite. I've been involved in an evaluation process and we ran it all on RedHat Enterprise Server Release 4 Update 5, without too many problems.
    cheers,
    James
