Solaris10.. need to remove "::1 localhost" from /etc/hosts file
I know i have IPV6 disabled (through install options) but i still see "::1 localhost" entry in the /etc/hosts file.. This is related to localhost with IPV6 address ::1.. why it is still there.. what is it's impact.. how can i remove it if i decide to remove..
Thanks, appreciate help.
S.
It could be there if you linked /etc/hosts (or /etc/inet/hosts to /etc/inet/ipnodes). Or recreated the hosts-file from ipnodes (or it could be there by default and removed by my jumpstart, which means i would be unaware of it :-)
And no, you don't need it if you are not running IPv6, in fact removing it will eliminate a few error messages.
On all non-IPv6 systems i install i link /etc/inet/ipnodes to /etc/inet/hosts, in order to eliminate errors when changing IP addresses of the host and odd resolv-conflicts (which also removes any reference to ::1), and so far i have never experienced any issue with that.

Need to remove 'Returns' Qty from the plant (MMBE)
In stock overview MMBE, there is no unrestricted qty. but there is some Qty in "Returns", how we need to remove this Qty from this plant..there is no stock in transit for this material for this plant? but there is some stock in transit in some other plant.
I am not sure what the purchase order/STO is. I have reviewed all of the past stock transfers with this material on them and cannot find one open, they need to get this material removed.
Please suggest how we can remove this Returns Qty from this plant (MMBE)?
Thanks in advance
Suresh..if you have stock in returns status in MMBE, then you can move it into unrestricted status with 453, into own blocked status with 459.
this returns stock is created when you post a goods receipt to a return delivery. returns stock is not financially owned by you, it is non-valuated stock until you transfer it with an extra movement (453 or 459) into own stock. -

JThe format for the hosts file is
ipaddress alias1 alias2 alias3 alias4 Most shops will just have two aliases, one with just the machine name, one with the fully qualified domain.machine name. In reality, you can do whatever makes sense:
[root@vmlnx01 ~]# cat /etc/hosts
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality wil fail
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
[root@vmlnx01 ~]# ping localhost
PING localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=1.96 ms
[root@vmlnx01 ~]# ping localhost.localdomain
PING localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.094 ms
[root@vmlnx01 ~]# vi /etc/hosts
<<<< adding an alias 'fred' >>>>>
[root@vmlnx01 ~]# cat /etc/hosts
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality wil fail
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost fred
[root@vmlnx01 ~]# ping fred
PING localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.306 ms
64 bytes from localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.093 ms
64 bytes from localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=3 ttl=64 time=0.092 msDoes the order of the aliases have any meaning? I leave that quick experiment as an exercise for the student. -
How do I remove padlock icon from all my files?
On one of my drives, every single file has a little padlock icon superimposed over the file icon. I recall when I did a clean install of windows 7 RC over my Vista install, I wasn't getting write access to the drive so I had to take ownership of the drive and mess with the security settings before it started working normally.
I have to admit, I find the security settings in all versions of NT mystifying... For instance, although my account is in the administrators group, having full access to administrators never seems to work. I always have to add my individual user account and explicitly give it full access.
In any case, I can't remember exactly what it took, but after messing around with the security settings for a while, I eventually was able to have full access to the drive and have no problems reading/writing/deleting files and folders, but there's the padlock icon still on everything.
Can anyone explain how to get rid of it, and/or maybe point me to a good, clear, understandable guide on how to properly set NTFS permissions.

SCAN LISTENER runs from only one node at a time from /etc/hosts !
Dear all ,
Recently I have to configure RAC in oracle 11g(r2) in AIX 6.1 . Since in this moment it is not possible to configure DNS, so I dont use SCAN ip into the DNS/GNS, I just add the SCAN ip into the host file like :
cat /etc/hosts
SCAN 172.17.0.22
Got the info from : http://www.freeoraclehelp.com/2011/12/scan-setup-for-oracle-11g-release211gr2.html#ORACLE11GR2RACINS
After configuring all the steps of RAC , Every services are ok except SCAN_LISTENER . This listener is up only one node at a time . First time when I chek it from node1 , it shows :
srvctl status scan_listener
SCAN listener LISTENER_SCAN1 is enabled
SCAN listener LISTENER_SCAN1 is running on node dcdbsvr1
now when I relocate it from node 2 using
"srvctl relocate scan -i 1-n DCDBSVR2" , then the output shows :
srvctl status scan_listener
SCAN listener LISTENER_SCAN1 is enabled
SCAN listener LISTENER_SCAN1 is running on node dcdbsvr2
Baring these , we have to try to relocate it from the node2 by the following way, then it shows the error :
srvctl relocate scan -i 2 -n DCDBSVR2
resource ora.scan2.vip does not exists
Now my question , How can I run the SCAN and SCAN_LISTENER both of the NODES ?
Here is my listener file (which is in the GRID home location) configuration :
Listener File OF NODE1 AND NODE 2:
==================================
ENABLE_GLOBAL_DYNAMIC_ENDPOINT_LISTENER_SCAN1=ON
ENABLE_GLOBAL_DYNAMIC_ENDPOINT_LISTENER=ON
LISTENER_SCAN1 =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC) (KEY = LISTENER_SCAN1)
ADR_BASE_LISTENER_SCAN1 = /U01/APP/ORACLE
2)
Another issue , when I give the command : " ifconfig -a " , then it shows the SCAN ip either node1 or node2 . suppose if the SCAN ip is in the node1 , and then if I run the "relocate" command from node2 , the ip goes to the Node 2 . is it a correct situation ? advice plz ... ...
thx in advance .. ...

Edited by: shipon_97 on Jan 10, 2012 7:31 AMAfter configuring all the steps of RAC , Every services are ok except SCAN_LISTENER . This listener is up only one node at a time . First time when I chek it from node1 , it shows :If I am not wrong and after looking at the document you sent, you will be able to use only once scan in case you use /etc/host file and this will be up on only one node where you added this scan entry in /etc/hosts file.
Now my question , How can I run the SCAN and SCAN_LISTENER both of the NODES ?Probably you can't in your case, you might run only one i think and on one node only
srvctl status scan_listener
SCAN listener LISTENER_SCAN1 is enabled
SCAN listener LISTENER_SCAN1 is running on node dcdbsvr1
now when I relocate it from node 2 using
"srvctl relocate scan -i 1 -n DCDBSVR2" , then the output shows :
srvctl status scan_listener
SCAN listener LISTENER_SCAN1 is enabled
SCAN listener LISTENER_SCAN1 is running on node dcdbsvr2You moved scan listener from node 1 to node 2, OK
Baring these , we have to try to relocate it from the node2 by the following way, then it shows the error :
srvctl relocate scan -i 2 -n DCDBSVR2
resource ora.scan2.vip does not exists
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Since you have only one scan, you can't relocate "2". So ise "1" instead here also

Can't remove a movie from my autoload file
when i remove a movie from my autoload file, it reappears next time i open the autoload file.
is there a way to permenantly delete the movie?
thanksIf you are manually opening it then it is not autoloading. Either you are opening a file with a movie in it, removing the movie, but not saving. Or you are opening a template that has a movie in it and not saving as a template (so the next template open has the movie in it). Maybe you don't have advanced options checked in preferences, so the whole template idea is kind of hidden from you.

Yeah, I remember someone posted that solution a long time
ago. It seems if you load a file with the same name the cache
doesn't
know any better and adjusts the download size to the smaller
one. Maybe it's a good way to do it! Could it be a way to remove an
mp3 from someone's cache after it plays? hmmmm Will have to

Hi,
Pls confirm if you are using Windows 2000 Pro, in this O/S the
hostname is the name of the computer itself. Check the
MyComputer->Properties->Network Identification->Properties, the name you
find under the computer name will be automatically taken while
installation, if it doesn't then there is some error. However the
C:\Winnt\System32\Drivers\Etc\hosts doesn't matter much while installing
iAS 6.0 SP1 or above. Hope this helps

Here's what mine has in it:
# Host Database
# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
# when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1 localhost
fe80::1%lo0 localhost
(Remove the space at the beginning of each line. I had to add those to keep the board software from scrambling the content.)
Here are it's permissions settings:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 236 Jun 23 2009 /etc/hosts
I wasn't watching you type, so I don't have any idea what you did to delete that. In Terminal the history command will show you a large number of the last commands you typed. Perhaps that will give you a clue. -
Editing etc\hosts file on windows xp for apps. problem post installation.
Hi all,
I was able to install 11.5.10.2 apps on my win xp prof machine. During that process I had to edit the etc/hosts file in windows directory as a work around for that domain name field during installation. Also added the primary DNS suffix as 'suneel.com' . I gave the domain name as 'suneel.com' during installation. The RapidWiz is taking localhost as the system name and referring to this system as localhost.suneel.com, though the actual system name is 'websoft-xp' .
The host file on Apps machine has the following entries:
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 localhost.suneel.com suneel.com
127.0.0.1 websoft-xp.suneel.com
So when I connect to apps login server from other systems in lan, I've to edit their hosts file and add an entry for localhost.suneel.com to point to its ip address or else the apps throws an error after logging in as operations/welcome using a different url say 192.168.1.4:8000 . Is there a way to get around this issue?
More over I'm not able connect to VIS db from other systems. The oracle clients give an error 'No listner' at this address. (The original listener was listening at localhost.suneel.com:1521). So I tried to create a new listerner from Net Manager that actually listens at websoft-xp (the real system name) but it throws me an error 'A valid log file is required' while saving the network configuration and prevents me from saving the network configuration.
Did I do something wrong with the hosts file during installation or did i miss any entries in that file thats causing this? Any solutions for the above problems will be appreciated?
Thanks
Suneel

It suggested setting tcp.validnode_checking = no

F:\oracle\visdb\9.2.0\network\admin\VIS_websoft-xp
And it works. Hope this helps someone facing a similar problem. Good luck.
BTW how do I run autoconfig?
