Solaris8 intel: admintool

Hi,
my ex-colleague had used admintool to create domain accounts for students( solaris 8 intel OS).
Understand that admintool is used to create local accounts but not domain accounts.
What is the magic behind this?
Pls reply to [email protected]
Thanks & regards,

    Hi,
Has anyone successfully installed Oracle 9i on Solaris8 (Intel) ?. Pl. post your experience.
    Thanks

I recall reading a post somewhere abt that particular user being able to install "9i for Sun Sparc" on solaris-intel without any problem. I was interested in finding out if i should give it a shot myself and if there is anything to watch out for.
I have installed "8.1.7 for Sparc" on sol-intel with no problem.

  • WLS5.1 apache plugin for Solaris8 Intel

Is there WLS5.1 apache plugin for Solaris8 Intel platform?

Which platform? WebLogic 8.1 does package the plugin.
Look in either in the weblogic81\server\lib\XXXXX directory or in the
    weblogic81\server\bin directory for the mod_wl_20.so.

I tried to find the Apache plugin for WebLogic 8.1, but I could not findone.
I downloaded the one from BEA web site, but it did not work. I run Apache2.0.46
on Windows 2000 and WebLogic 8.1. The plugin I downloaded gave an errormessage
complaining about the version is incompatible and require some 20020915version.
Does anyone know where I can find the apache plugin? We are testing tomove
forward to WebLogic 8.1 but without the plugin, we can not move forwardwith our

  • Oracle 8.1.5.0.0 e edition solaris8 intel oratab

On the oracle cd that I received with solaris8 for intel the release notes quote :
    "Create the oratab File
Information about Oracle instances is stored in the oratab file. This file is owned by the oracle account, but resides in a directory that requires root privileges when creating the file. Run the cdrom_mount_point/orainst/oratab.sh script to create or set the permissions of the oratab file in the following directories: ".
The cd rom does not have a direcory /orainst.
How should I create this file?
    Thanks in advance
    Phil.

afik the oratab.sh file has to be executed
as root when you install oracle db or
    owas etc.
it searches for existing dba/oracle accounts
and does set some shell parameters (more pipe etc.)
normally it is located in the directory from where you executed the orainst binary.

  • Solaris8 Intel Installation Troubles..

    Hi,
I'm trying to install Solaris 8 for Intel on an old HP Vectra VL8i (400 Mhz, 128MB ram). Currently this machine has a screwed up install (*my fault* ) of Linux Mandrake 7.2. I downloaded the Solaris8 binaries off of sun.com and was trying to make a boot diskette on my 2000 adv. server box to then create the bootable .iso cd images (set of 3 cds for install). Once that was done, I had planned to start the install on my Vectra (the one running Mandrake). However, now I realized the "format a: /s" option is no longer supported under 2000. Its not even an option listed under the format help info screen. So I'm in a bit of a pickle...I'm trying to figure out how to get the necessary files on a formatted floppy diskette to make the diskette bootable with CD ROM driver support. I know I need to copy an autoexec.bat, config.sys, and setup the mscdex file to make this work, but I get lost in the details of it all.
    A little later,
OK, I reinstalled Mandrake on it and its working fine now that way I can start from a clean point. I burnt 2 CDs of the first installation CD for Solari8 intel to test this with..
According to the informational instructions at Sun.com they recommend using "winzip" to unzip the archive and Adaptec EZ CD Creator to burn a "bootable .iso CD image". Well, I have both those programs and so when I unzipped the .iso file for the installation CD it appeared on my desktop as an adaptec ez cd icon. I opened it up, selected bootable CD (according to cd creator help file to make a bootable cd I need to copy a bootable floppy over to it..), it prompts me for my boot floppy, I insert it works, and creates 2 boot files. Then I add the solaris8.iso for the install cd, and burn the CD. Now, I take it over to my HP Vectra, pop it in, power on, and it loads the oak cd rom driver and sets my floppy as A: and my cdrom as X: I can now enter X: and see the solaris-8.iso file but can't do anything with it.....
FYI: I have set the CDROM to boot before the HDD in the bios.
My next attempt after reading your post was to just extract the .iso file from the zip archive and then burn it in ISO format as is...no bootable CD junk per Adaptec's Help file. I do that and pop it in and my computer does nothing, just boots up to linux mandrake because it doesn't start the install when it hits the cdrom first....again, just has the solaris8 install .iso file on it, and this time nothing else on the CD.
My question is, is there something I am missing regarding the install .iso file? Do I have to extract that to something? Windows views it as an archive.... I have scoured the sun docs and solaris intel install information and not much is on this except "extract using winzip and burn a bootable .iso using adaptec easy cd creator with the .iso file you extracted from winzip". I'm really confused at this point...I know I was trying to load it on top of a Linux Mandrake OS, but it had 4.2 GB of free space. I can't even get the installation process STARTED!!! LOL!
    Thanks for any help...
PS...I think something is messed up with my HDD now. I went through fdisking my non-dos partitions (linux mandrake) and formatting the HDD from a boot floppy to see if this might help. It didn't. However, now there is supposedly nothing on my HDD. However if I just let it boot up it comes up to a "grub" shell, and has only limited functionality (like 20 commands). So there is obviously something still left on my HDD.
Oh also, before that I tried using the first Solaris OS .iso file not the INITIAL install .iso I was previously using. This is the .iso you mentioned I should try to use. I am still stuck at the same place...it won't start the install. I don't know if its because something is incorrect with my HDD or if its something I'm missing regarding copying the .iso onto the CD to start with....ANY, and I do mean ANY help is greatly appreciated here!

Hi, I'm not sure that I understanded your actual problem correctly, but I think that your installation CD's, where you said are .iso files, you messed up. The ISO files are images, like HD partitions archived in one file for portability. You have to burn those images with burner which supports ISO images, in other words, burning software unarchives the ISO image while the burn process, so correctly burned CD contains all ISO images files and directories , not just one big ISO file. I think 'cdrecord' in Linux supports ISO images.
Sorry my bad english, its not my native language :)

  • Solaris8 Intel able to recognize 7GB out of 40GB

Installed Solaris 8 (Intel) on HP Pavilion 9600 system with 384 MB RAM
and 40GB IDE Hard disk drive. Install program was able to recognize only
6.5GB. My BIOS configuration shows LBA Mode(I tried CHS also).
I installed Solaris 8 and it is working fine with 6.5GB.
LINUX 6.1 was able to recognize all 40GB. Am I doing anything wrong?
I would like to use atleast 20GB for Solaris8 and remaining 20GB for FAT32.
Any suggestions? Thank You in advance.

Ok, I got it to work I think, with help from the workaround for
    solaris 7 at http://sun.drydog.com/faq/ (question 5.8)
I looked at the western digital web site and found the drive has
87,930,864 sectors. You have to define the geometry as if it
    had 16383 cylinders. 87,930,864 / 16383 = 5367 sectors/cylinder.
    <pre>
I made a geometry file called 'geometry':
    * Label geometry for device /dev/rdsk/c0d0p0
    * PCYL NCYL ACYL BCYL NHEAD NSECT SECSIZ
    16383 16383 2 0 1 5367 512
    # fdisk -S geometry -I /dev/rdsk/c0d0p0
    # format
(choose drive, set up partitions, etc)
    # newfs /dev/rdsk/c0d0s7
    </pre>
    etc...
it seemed to work. Note I'm not using this as a boot drive,
just as a secondary drive so booting off the disk wasn't tested.
I also updated the bios on my abit BP6 motherboard because they
had changes for disks > 32gb, but maybe that doesn't matter if
you're not booting off the drive.
hope this helps. Maybe you can post here if it does or doesn't.

  • Solaris8 intel keyboard problem

I have been unable to make one key ("| \" on english keyboard or "<>" on spanish keyboard) work on either of my machines. The installation worked fine on both boxes but much to my surprise, neither of them have that key working. Incidentaly one box is a Pentium 4 PC and the other is an IBM laptop. I am using solaris 8 intel version 10/01.
After finding out, I ran the DCA on both machines and the key seems dead. Although using the DCA from the solaris 7 version the key seems to work. A Solaris 7 installation works fine.
Has anybody heard of this problem before.

Should be sufficient to apply the latest patch cluster to the 10/01 Solaris 8 installation. This way you save $20!
Running kdmconfig afterwards might be necessary, too.
I've never had a problem with my German keyborad BTW, not in Solaris 7 (FCS) and not in 8 (01/01 with latest patch cluster).

  • Solaris8 Intel Install-time panics

Has anybody been able to get Solaris 8 to boot on Intel? I have 4 boxes:
1 AMD, 1 Pentium II, 1 Pentium III and one dual-Pentium III and after booting from floppy, scanning hardware (only onboard IDE, ATI-AGP video,
and DEC tulip net) it announces that its making /dev entries then panics.
What am I missing? Solaris7 gets a little farther, but still panics.
Just trying to BOOT! fer' crying' out loud!
    Any advice or assistance welcome.

Have you tried the setprop suggestino from longmu?? My M729 motherboard is knackered after I mis-flashed the BIOS. I was hoping there might be a miracle cure. Interestingly enough, these PC Chips boards have a bit of a reputation for unreliability (not just with Solaris) and the tech support is next to nothing.
What I can't understand is that I actually managed to install it once on this machine. I used the Webstart with no modifications to BIOS etc but it only gave a small partition and it kept crashing when accessing the CD. It was on my second install that it wouldn't work any more. I suspect the on-board IDE controller isn't very good.
I managed to run through most of the install on an old Olivetti 486, so why up to date hardware can't work, I don't know. I plan to give away the motherboard and buy another one - probably the easiest solution.
    Many thanks,
    Simon

  • Where can I download Solaris8 for Intel for free?

Hello, I'm looking for a free download of Solaris8 (Intel) for free. It seems that only the edition for Sparc is for free... Am I wrong or isn't it possible to have one for free for Intel?
Can somebody give me a URL where I can find it?

Sun does not seem to be providing with downloads of Solaris 8 for Intel anymore. I guess it is in limbo if these will ever become available again, but that's what happens.

  • Very low network performance (Solaris8)!

    I'm using two Solaris8(4/01) PC.
Each PC consists of ASUS CUSL2-M (this mother board is listed in HCL) which has 3Com 3C920 onboard network controller.
I tested the network thoughput between them by the netperf, I got only 2.7M bit per sec!
    I also tested following:
    Solaris8(3C920) - Solaris8(Intel Pro/100) 2.6Mbps
    Solaris8(3C920) - Linux(Dec tulip) 81.2Mbps
What's wrong? Configuration problem? Device failure? Or driver problem?
Anyone tell me the solution, please.
    Thanks, yuki.

  • How to telnet from Solaris8 to Win2000

I have set up a network between Win2000 box and Solaris8 Intel machine. I can telnet from Windows 2000 to Solaris and log in. When I use telnet from Solaris it says connection refused. Why is it happening? By the way, I can ping with each other and I need to provide password to start Win2000.
    Any help will be appreciated.

Try to create a user a/c on your Solaris box, then use this a/c to telnet and log in to your Solaris box, you can always use the "su" command to chage switch user to root once you log in.
    Enjoy your Solaris session.

  • Setting root's $PATH

    Hello,
I am in the process of compiling a program on Solaris8/Intel.
During the process the program ar is not found.
It is loaded on the machine in /usr/ccs/bin but this directory is not in the $PATH enviroment variable.
The OS is setup to boot into CDE and the default shell for root is sh, which I understand is the Bourne shell.
From what I can tell, the .profile contains a path statement but when I add the above path is does not show up when I type "echo $PATH".
How do I change the path for root so that the above directory is always included in the search path?
    Thanks for your assistance!
    Chris Hax

    Hi,
You can create an initialization file appropriate for Bourne shell for the user "root".
If root is using Bourne shell (/bin/sh) or /bin/ksh, Create /.profile file as follows:
First for safty reason copy the output of your echo $PATH command to a text editor screen or ro a file.
    Using vi create /.profile
Add the following line to set your PATH variable:
    PATH=${PATH} :/usr/ccs/bin
    export PATH
Save the /.profile file and quit the editor.
To refresh the settings or to verify the settings you can either log off and re login as root or you can use ..profile command to refresh the settings....
Even i recomend not to play arround with the root's path but to create a normal user with the required access and path settings to complete your compiling...

  • Dialin Problem

I'm having a problem with PPP dropping connection. I have Solaris8 - (Intel) Everything is going fine then all of a sudden I get this "process_ipd_msg: interface ipdptp0 reports an error " message in the logs and it drops the line and reconnects. (I've included part of the log below)
This problem has been giving me problems for days. I've tried everything I can think of... Anyone have any ideas what is going on here or how I can fix it? How do I find where this "reports an error" is coming from? (ie what the error is)

    Hi,
On a similar occassion wherein I was trying to get Aux Port configured for Remote Dialin (for exec access and not for data) I tried almost 4 USR modems and everytime all the modems would get stuck at the handshake and never be able to complete the process.
However when I changed the modem to a simple make and model, it did work!
I guess its a problem with USR, have you ever tried with some other brand?
