Sold my notebook, headed to the Apple Store this weekend
Managed to sell my PC notebook on eBay this week. I'll be making the switch this weekend as I pick up a MacBook Pro. Is there anything special I should know? Anything I should do? Already familiar with OSX from borrowing my wife's iBook. Can't wait. Hooray for me.
Scott
Something I learnt from my first Apple experience:
If you find any issues with your MacBook Pro; return it or exchange it right away. If they tell you it needs to be fixed and you actually chose to fix it; you'll never be able to return it!
My MacBook Pro had the reboot issue out of the box. I took it back to the store and they fixed it (yes I was stuoid enough not to ask for a replacement). Now I have the whine issue and Apple won't admit it's a problem - They say it's :within: spec! SO I asked for a refund or replacement and they REFUSED and told me that I should have done that the first time around... too late now!
"Thanks" Apple! :/

help!!!
this is my first post so ill be breif,
on tuesday i deleted a load of pictures that i had saved off FaceBook, i panicked and with the advise of many websites restored to last back up which was in august!!!! the pictures ive saved off face book im not so bothered about its what got deleted in the restoring process that im upset about; holiday photos family stuff christmas etc etc . im going into my local store tomorrow i just want to know what i can do in the mean time... i cant even access my icloud to get the stuff back because its restored my old apple id and password and i cant remember it for the life of me please help!!!
thanksIf you do not have a newer backup than the one you just restored from, then nothing is going to be there. You can contact Apple support to try and recover your Apple ID password. If you have backed up the phone since you restored from the old backup, then there will not be another backup for you to get information from. The iPhone replaces the old backups with the current backup.

ILife 11 Disc no longer available at the Apple Store
Went to the Apple Store this morning to get the URL for the iLife 11 disk page and found it was no longer available.
Therefore, any user who needs to purchase a copy of iWeb will have to go to Amazon.com or eBay.com.
OTAnsonS, it' the "not near as easy" part that I don't like. I will, however, give Freeway Express a try when I have the time to work with it for a while. The "free" 30 day trial is great. I wish more SW companies would offer that.
I'm still hoping that Apple will decide to do a major upgrade of iWeb and release it as a "stand alone" program. I would be willing to buy it if they do. But, as with many things that Apple does, there is no information on what they are planning to do and they will most likely just let the program die. -
Just got back from the Apple store RE: wifi problems. No fix in sight.
I took my iPad into the Apple store this afternoon because of the wifi issues I've been having. The problem I'm having is that the connection frequently drops and I get a message that says "Incorrect Wifi Password". This has been happening a TON lately and is getting really annoying.
The genius at the Apple store tested my iPad on their network and couldn't replicate the problem. Therefore, he concluded that the iPad is not defective. He talked a lot about router technology and basically said that every other router and network other than what's at the Apple store is old technology, that's why it doesn't work. This is an unacceptable answer. He offered no fix or remedy for the problem.
I asked him if Apple is working on a remedy and he said they are NOT because there is NO PROBLEM.
Judging by what I've read on here and experienced, there IS A PROBLEM APPLE!
Since he was convinced that my device is functioning properly and also that Apple is not going to provide a fix or update to address the wifi issues, I asked about the return policy. He said I WOULD HAVE TO PAY A RESTOCKING FEE BECAUSE MY DEVICE IS NOT DEFECTIVE! <--- can you tell I'm yelling??!!
I asked him to help me understand how a device is not defective that can't function as intended on any network other than an Apple network. He said if my iPad works in the store, it's not defective and I'd have to pay the 10% restocking fee.
This is really really not what I expected from Apple, not at all. Since the Apple genius told me that Apple doesn't recognize that this is a problem, and that Apple is NOT working on a fix for it, I am going to return my device to Best Buy this afternoon.
I'm really not happy about this because I really love this device, but it's just not usable if it keeps dropping connections.
I'm having a sad Friday.Good heavens, I can understand why you're having a bad day - and in essence you are absolutely right, if your iPad doesn't work with your network and other devices do, then the iPad is the problem. After all, if you go to Starbucks, a hotel, airport, hotspots provided by cities or any vendors, you can't ask them to replace their routers if you can't connect. It's not your job to resolve infrastructure problems, but it is Apple's to ensure the device is compatible with the infrastructure which exists.
However:
This is really really not what I expected from Apple, not at all. Since the Apple genius told me that Apple doesn't recognize that this is a problem, and that Apple is NOT working on a fix for it, I am going to return my device to Best Buy this afternoon.
I would urge you not to believe this genius speaks for Apple as an authority on the subject. Even if right at this moment, the more complaints, calls and returns they have for wifi faults, the more they will react to the problem, because they have no choice. What they generally won't do (based on past experience) is announce publicly that there is a problem, but it doesn't mean they are not collecting and reviewing data and researching potential solutions.
So, before you return your iPad - and might face the debate on restocking fees - call Apple and discuss the problem, if necessary escalating the call to the next tier up until you get someone who can help you work through it, or arrange for a timely replacement, or a return without you having to face a penalty. Apple are typically very good in customer service, as the surveys show, but that isn't always the case in the early stages of a fault where the issues are not yet clear.
Good luck! -
Earlier Today at the Apple Store...
Went to the Apple Store this morning and was greeted by a slightly past middle aged gentleman that told me he was an Apple Genius. (Before anybody gets angry with the word Middle Aged and wants to send me to sensitivity training, I am somewhat past that gentleman in age, and the only other thing would be to say he was a young man, which he was not.) He was actually a retired teacher who was working in the store. Really a pleasant guy, if I weren't so old I would have liked this guy as a father. I did not like him in his Bermuda pants but what the heck, he was trying to blend in with his work colleagues
Told him that I was there to buy rubber iNcase for protection of my iPhone and he pointed to them right away and discussed the different styles. I subsequently bought the case and when I was checking out I happened to notice that he was wearing an iPhone. Asked him how he liked it. He said he "Luv'd" it.
I told him that I was not at the point in my relationship to LUV as I have said many times before but I did like the iPhone.
We chatted about 5 minutes, the store was almost deserted even though school at all levels start here on August 27th. Of course this was 10:15am.
Just want to let everyone know that these gals and guys at the store are really nice, want to help, and will even chat with you if time is permitting so when we recommend that you take your phone back to the store, work with these people, they may even do a straight exchange if your iPhone is experiencing problems.
mikeabPosted this because most people are hesitant about bringing back their iPhone to the store for exchange or assistance.
Nothing more and nothing less.

Are unlocked iphones sold in the apple store factory unlocked?
are unlocked iphones sold in the apple store factory unlocked?
Yeah just tested it, change the tmobile to iPhone tarrif and it's unlocked. So Peter was right it is unlocked if you buy from the Apple store. Plus I thought it would be unlocked just needed conformation, like I said the sales guy said it is unlocked to all networks.
Thanks everyone. -
I want to get the new iPhone 5s right when it comes out. I was just wondering what you guys thought. Should I go to the apple store (closet one is an hour away and always busy) or should I go to my local Verizon store. I know when the 5 came out last year they ran out of the iPhone 5. What do you think my best bet will be??
There's really no way anyone can even guess, since we have no idea what sort of stock will be available and how Apple will distribute it. It's not impossible that your local Verizon store will not have any units at all on the first day, or they could have a quantify. We just can't know. If your Verizon store can't give you some idea, you'll just have to make your best guess. Note that people are already lining up at Apple Stores in at least a couple of cities according to reports, and started doing so earlier this week.

New buyer question: can I sync my new iPod Touch in the Apple Store?
I'm heading to Florida in 5 days (I live in the UK), where I'll be buying my iPod Touch (well, I'll hang off as long as possible to try and catch a price-drop or upgrade after 11 July).
However, it's looking unlikely that I'll have my laptop with me, so I won't be able to sync up to my iTunes library until I get back home to the UK.
Do you think the staff in the Apple Store would sync and register it for me, so that I can at least use the wi-fi etc. until I get home? I don't want any music or videos on it until I get home, so I don't need anything like that. You could ask.
They may let you plug it to register it so you can use it.
I doubt they would let you sync it since that would put the music from the computer you are connecting it to. -
what will be the cost of replacing a battery in the apple store..??
Apple has a battery replacement program for some devices sold between Dec 12 and Jan 13.
Check your device if it's eligible for this program or not https://www.apple.com/support/iphone5-battery/other_countries.html
Besides, go to any App Store and ask them to run ADR test for your device and will see the battery life. If it seems fail or consumed then you should replace the battery. If seems pass, then restore your device if you think battery drains too fast.
see the pricing Apple - Support - Service Answer Center
choose the country from list and will see the all info upon service costs -
my mac is running slow, the spinning beach ball constantly appears. it seems that when i am in the apple store with fast wifi its a bit better. genius at the apple store checked the hard drive, it's all fine. what can it be? can it be a software issue with the wifi?
also i noted that it has only been doing this since quite recently, before it was fine
please help!First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the log for messages that may indicate a system issue. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU |hfs: Ru|I/O e|find tok|n Cause: -|NVDA\(|timed? ?o' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Reset the System Management Controller.
Run Software Update. If there's a firmware update, install it.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a portable computer, check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane. See whether there's any change.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the View menu or the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for User, System, and Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the Memory tab. What value is shown in the bottom part of the window for Swap used?
Next, select the Disk tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in andWrites out.)
Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long. -
Hello, I'm new in Apple Support Communities
Most of my e-mail goes to Junk e-mail..! I have tried the rules suggestion as soluiton of the problem, but I don't see any rules to be removed. I went to the Apple store and they couldn't resolve the problem ...Help!!! Any other suggestion? Is it being marked by your email provider? Check the raw headers and see if there is an x-spam header.
If so, you can disable Mail trusting spam headers in the Junk preferences. -
Can the Apple store verify my purchase and warranty by serial number
Can the Apple store verify my purchase and warranty period by serial number ??
Serial number from device could mean it's been sitting in the warehouse for a year before he purchased it can't it?
It could, but all authorized dealers are required to report the sale date and serial number to Apple. That's how Apple knows when a device was sold to set the warranty date; the warranty starts on the day the authorized dealer sells the device to the user, not when the dealer receives the device from Apple.
How would they know his serial number from his device without registering it because I know all the serial numbers show up on my devices but like I said how would the serial number prove that he didn't purchase the device 6 months - 1 year after it left the warehouse or place of purchase.
See my previous response.
Says on website Apple may require a proof of purchase and to keep your receipt.
They may, though usually they don't. But again, the user is not required to register the device with Apple to validate the warranty. In fact, in many countries it is illegal for any manufacturer to require registration before a warranty is honored. The proof of purchase is all that would ever be needed, and again if the device is take directly to Apple that's almost never required.

Are the apple stores really open on Easter?
Are the apple stores really open on Easter?
On the store web page it says:
April 04, 2010:
10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Apple is not giving their employees Easter off? What's a day off? People get those?
Some Apple Retail Stores are open, some are closed. For example:
http://www.apple.com/retail/thesummit/
I recommend checking http://www.apple.com/retail/storelist/ for Easter hours before heading to a particular store.
