Solid 3d shapes cs5

hello.
when diong adjustments to a 3d shape like this sphere in cross section of the 3d panel.
its always hollow along with all shapes. how would you get these this shape to be solid.
thanks
phil.

thanks for the reply mylenium.
once the 3d sphere is created and then cross section in 3d panel.
then it wont allow any repousee adjustments to take place.
its just greyed out. not because of my nvidia card which is excellent.
i could get blender which as you know is free and will do the task im asking for.
then i would have to start from scratch and learn blender.
thanks once again for the reply.
very much appreciated.

  • How to add Solid/Text/Shape at specific index?

Hello, is there a way to add Solid/Text/Shape at a specific index in a composition? Like for example a composition has 5 layers and I want to add a Solid at index 3 instead of at the beginning of the layers like it does by default. Setting the ID of the Solid after I have added it doesn't work, because its readOnly.

As far as I know these is no way to change the index while creating a layer.
Look into <<AE Scripting guide>>.Page.87,There are 4 methods to satisfy your need after the layer is created.
    app.project.item(index).layer(index).moveToBeginning();
    app.project.item(index).layer(index).moveToEnd();
    app.project.item(index).layer(index).moveBefore(targetLayer); //targetLayer is a AVLayer object,so  you should try this way: targetLayer = app.project.activeItem.layer(index);
    app.project.item(index).layer(index).moveAfter(targetLayer);
I almost forget that ,script can use app.executeCommand(app.findMenuCommandId("Shape Layer")); to add a shape layer just above your selectedLayers. I don't remember, but maybe this feature is supported after AE CS6

  • Solid Layer Shape messed up

Hi, I am trying to create an energy beam/blast for a project.  I created an ellipse shape on my solid layer but when I try to expand the shape with the pen tool it becomes a rectangle.  I am not sure what I did wrong but here is a screen shot of the problem.   Help would be much appreciated.

It works as it is supposed to - your solid is simply too small and outside the bounds there are no visible pixels when the mask goes over the edge.

  • Solid alpha shape to vector solid shape

Please can someone help me this is driving me totally nuts, ive tried all sorts of tracing and everything but cant seem to get just the outline of the shape i want.
I have an animated logo ( white), on a background(black) ..( and tried inverting & tried on alpha to see what happens but still no luck..
I want to get the ai (filled solid ) vector of this logo, by itself on the layer instead of the rasta image, but whatever i do i just end up with a rectangular box.
What i need it for is to take it as an illustrator (v.8) layered shape of frames into aftereffects for use in zaxwerks.
    Please please can someone help.
    many thanks

Open the file in Photoshop using Frames to Layers, then trace each individual layer. AI certainly does for very rational reasons not open the file directly, but rather as a self-contained object to retain the animation. Hence tracing will not work directly.

  • Replace solid with shape?

I have a solid with some expressions and effects etc on it and I want to replace it with a shape layer so I dont have to start again but I cant find a a way to do it.  If I create a shape it doesnt show in the project panel like solids do for some reason so I cant alt drag it onto the solid.  The reason I want to replace it is becauase I want to use the built in effects that the shapes layer has such as trim paths etc.   Is there a way to do this?

Ok thanks.   Also i noticed when I create a shape from an illustrator layer it doesnt keep the graphic styles or clipping masks etc. Is there a way to convert this information?
No. That's inherent in the process. If you want this, you'd have to use the AI file as it is or rebuild al lthe stuff natively inside AE. the rest is too vague and I'm afraid you are getting too worked up on that vector thing. As far as AE is concverned a layer is a layer and there is no requirement whatsoever for them to be shape layers otehr than perhaps a better sharpness and quality with vector artwork. Otherwise simple nested comps will do just fine, though you should get used to the fact that you will have to use some keyframes to get them to do what you want them to do. Whether those are on expression parameters for a wiggle() or on the layer's transform properties directly to me makes not much of a difference.

  • TIP: solid planes in CS5 perspective drawing

    After reading this:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/infiniteresolution/2010/05/drawing_in_perspective_using_a.html
I noticed in the sample file that the guide-planes for the perspective grid are drawn as solid planes.
Investigating, I found that the settings are stored in the text file "Perspective Grid Presets" in the
    %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS5 Settings\en_GB directory (Win7)
Changing the values of  the following to 1 in a preset (identifying takes some intelligence since they have no clear names)
    /PerspectiveGrid_FloorPlaneVisibilityState 1
    /PerspectiveGrid_RightPlaneVisibilityState 1
    /PerspectiveGrid_LeftPlaneVisibilityState 1
gives you a perspective grid like this:
I keep now two presets of perspective grids with exactly the same settings, except the option above. Allows for easy switching between the two views.
If anyone has a way to set these options in the GUI please post.

Using the Perspective Grid tool or Perspective Selection tool, Option/Alt click on one of the three circles at the bottom of the grid plane. This will cycle between grid lines, solid colors, and no visible grid.

  • Fill color of shapes in layer

How can i fill the color (solid) of shapes within an layer? For now I got:

      sColor.rgb.hexValue = hex;

  • CS5-CS6 Pantone Color Differences

Hey Everyone. Long time no see. Congratulations to Peter on getting even further forum kudos. At my current rate of forum visiting this is going to be mostly a fansite.
Anywho. I recently put in CS6 on all the machines here at work (commercial printer, 11 macs) and have been hearing quite a bit of mumbles and grumbles on the new color system for spots. This may be an easy fix.
On CS5 my Pantone Solid Coated colors have a completely different CMYK and LAB breakdown from what CS6 is stating. Not only do the colors break down different and have different LAB values, but they look really different. This wigs my sales critters out as well as the designers. They don't like their Reflex Blue looking purple. We have all of our output devices set to nail Reflex Blue, for example regardless of them being large format flatbed, inkjet rollfed, digital press, offset press.
I migrated my Pantone Solid Coated from CS5 and have all the color settings the same in terms of color management and am still getting the breakdown differences. This creates an issue for me with the devices that don't have a horribly great spot library and require CMYK breakdowns they take advantage of (whether naturally doing well with CMYK or doing trickery like Fiery CMYK to CMYK conversions to make the output devices play nice). Even the Pantone+ Reflex Blues don't match between CS5 and CS6.
This is just really confusing for me. We have several ink vendors and they don't use the Pantone+ system for their inks. I don't even know what ink vendors have embraced it. We work with ink vendors varying from #2 and #10 in terms of market dominance, so it isn't a question of us just working with Brand X ink vendors.
    Any clues?
On a non color related note. Am I the only one who found the content collector and content placer tools to be indispensible tools? Every time I look down at the conveyer I say "oh conveyer, how did I live without you?" I unmapped copy and paste and ripped the option key off my keyboard.

I migrated my Pantone Solid Coated from CS5 and have all the color settings the same in terms of color management and am still getting the breakdown differences.
One thing that's different in CS6 is the solid ink libraries are now always Lab definitions. As far as I can tell unchecking the Ink Manger's Use Standard Lab Values for Spots never has any affect. Even if you load the older libraries the CMYK conversions from a solid ink color will be color managed and the CMYK values will change depending on the document's CMYK profile.
If you really need the legacy CMYK breakdowns you might have to use the old PANTONE solid to process.acb library, which is defined as process CMYK and uses the same CMYK builds as the older PANTONE solid coated library.

  • CS5 Selection Display Differences - any tricks?

So, now that I've been working with CS5 for a while, I'm finding that the selection lines display differently from previous CS versions, and in not such a good way. I need to know if there's an option somewhere for resetting these:
    1. The bounding box, for example, never grays out--it always looks like it needs to be double clicked to apply your maneuver. I can't quite remember what it looked like before in CS4, but the lines as they are now really stand out, and detract from seeing how the object fits with the overall canvas. And, I can't tell whether the operation has completed because there's no visible change in the bounding box lines.
    2. When performing a selection with the lasso, the lines are no longer the complementary color of the object you're selecting--it always stays a light gray. So I'm losing my place because I can't distinguish the marching ants from the background.
Any way to fix this? Has anybody come up with a trick to help? Thanks for any observations you might have!

I've just been looking through Photoshop CS3, CS4, and CS5 to try to see what you're talking about.
I was going to ask what "Show Bounding Box" setting you mean, but I figured it out.  You're talking about the Show Transform Controls checkbox when the Move tool is active.
I think it's a bit more complicated than what's being described, based on what I see when the layer on top does not occupy the full canvas...  In Photoshop CS4, there was a difference whether OpenGL was enabled or not, while in Photoshop CS5 it's consistent both ways.
Click these images to see them most clearly.
Here's what I see in Photoshop CS3 before and after grabbing a handle and transforming the layer.  Note the dotted outline, as described in this thread.
Photoshop CS4, OpenGL disabled.  Note the dotted outline:
Photoshop CS4, OpenGL Enabled.  Note no outline at all before resizing:
    Photoshop CS5, OpenGL Disabled:
    Photoshop CS5, OpenGL Enabled:
Maybe they had some trouble making a dotted line in OpenGL, so they decided to make OpenGL ON/OFF consistent using a solid line in CS5.

  • Pantone Color Library

Why are the pantone colors in illustrator cc based on Lab mode and can I change the whole library to be based on CMYK as it was in cs5? When I create a pdf in cc and email it, some of the recipients see it as a solid black shape. I think that they may be using an older version of Acrobat reader because it does not seem to be happening to everyone. Thanks.

    TR Wilkens wrote:

Adobe (and Corel) made that change because Pantone made that change. They are merely staying in step with the official Pantone color definitions.
Can I change the whole library to be based on CMYK as it was in cs5?
Yes. See the "Recommendations" section in the below link. It also explains the color change.

  • PDF and PowerPoint 2007, strange slides and handouts

I'm getting strange output when I create a presentation in PowerPoint and print to Acrobat. The problems happen whether I print Slides or Handouts.
-- On some slides, the slide title is partially or completely missing.
-- In grayscale mode, some graphics show up in color.
    -- Solid-color shapes (boxes) show up cross-hatched.
-- For handouts only, some slides have headers and footers, and others do not.
I'm using PowerPoint 2007, up to date, and Acrobat Professional 9.1.3.
I've used PowerPoint and Acrobat for many years and only recently began to have these problems. I've tried changing some of the endless printing options in Acrobat, but nothing I've found so far has made a difference.
Those problems (with the possible exception of the color graphics in grayscale mode, I don't remember) do not happen when I print to Microsoft's XPS format.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you!

Thank you! That's helping a lot. I don't see how to get grayscale in that route, but at least I'm getting proper color handouts, no errors. Plus it outputs much faster. Hmmm. I haven't tried saving in PPT format instead of PPTX. And then there's an Excel spreadsheet that takes several minutes to output 14 pages via print to Adobe PDF printer (it used to be much faster, I don't know why it suddenly slowed down, I didn't change the spreadsheet), I wonder if that would be faster if I saved in PDF format rather than printing to the Adobe PDF printer.
Again, thank you. You have helped, plus you gave me leads to follow.

  • Placing images created in Photoshop of Fireworks removes their transparency - how to resolve?

I am designing a logo in Illustrator and have been using Photoshop and Fireworks to edit some photographs which form part of the logo.  These photographs are basically of musical instruments and two lions and I've used the rubber tool in Photoshop/Fireworks to cut out the shape of the instrument/lion and leave a transparent background.  I've then done a colour fill on the photograph so that it is a single solid colour shape.  I save this file, either as a PSD or PNG, and then place it in Illustrator using File > Place.
However, when I cut and paste the logo from Illustrator into InDesign any images that I've been working on in Photoshop / Fireworks have suddenly lost the transparent background they had and instead are displayed as the single solid colour shape but surrounded by whitespace.
How do I resolve this?  Should I be saving it a particular way in Illustrator in order to make all whitespace in the Illustration transparent?  Or is File > Place the wrong way to import graphic elements?
Also, is there a way to colour fill the imported images?  At present I  have to jump back out to Photoshop to change the colour and then AI picks up on the save and updates the graphic - it would be nice if I could do that all within Illustrator.
    Appreciate the advice.  Thank you.
    NJ

    Sorry, completely new to Illustrator.
Let's start from the beginning...the background (page) of Illustrator is white.  I can't seem to get it to be transparent so I'm assuming that white is the default and you should just know that it's transparent?
Anyway, I created a logo against this white backdrop.  I then wanted some solid colour graphic elements (musical instruments and a coupe of lions) as part of the logo so I opened up some photographs I had of musical instruments in Photoshop, used the eraser tool to remove all but the instrument then did a colour fill on the remaining image so that I had a single colour fill instrument shape.  I saved as .PSD.
In Illustrator I did a File > Place to insert the above graphics into my Illustrator logo design.
    1) Is it possible to do this colour fill in Illustrator because at the moment any time I want to change the colour of the instrument of lion graphics I'm having to go into Photoshop, change the colour there, save, and then wait for Illustrator to update.
    2) Rather than my "dumb" (how rude!) copy and paste procedure what is the best way to get the completed logo into InDesign?  File > Place and select the Illustrator file?
    Thank you Mylenium.

  • White Lines on Live Traced Artwork in PDF from Illustrator CS3

Hi,<br /><br />I've recently been using the Live Trace feature in Adobe Illustrator CS3 on my artwork so that my artwork becomes a vector image instead of a raster (I'm told it's better for Web because it works better with varying resolutions - doesn't become pixelated).  For my live trace, I use a custom preset:<br /><br />ADJUSTMENTS-<br />Mode: Color<br />Threshold: 128 (grayed out)<br />Palette: Automatic<br />Max Colors: 256<br />Output to Swatches: OFF<br />Blur: 0 px<br />Resample: 600 px<br />Fills: ON <grayed out><br />Strokes: OFF (grayed out)<br /><br />TRACE SETTINGS-<br />Max Stroke Weight: 10 px (grayed out)<br />Min Stroke Length: 20 px (grayed out)<br />Path Fitting: 1 px<br />Minimum Area: 1 px<br />Corner Angle: 1<br />Ignore White: OFF<br /><br />VIEW-<br />Raster: No Image<br />Vector Tracing Result<br /><br />The preview info, located under the dialogue bubble with the i states:<br />Paths: 4894<br />Anchors: (no number)<br />Colors: 148<br />Areas: 4822<br />Image PPI: 200<br /><br />I don't know if that helps anyone, but that's just the preset I've used to get a sharper, almost fully preserved vector version of my raster image.<br /><br />When I want to convert it to a PDF file using the File > Save As... > Save as type: PDF with the following preset:<br /><br />Adobe PDF Preset: Illustrator Default<br />Standard: None<br />Compatibility: Acrobat 8 (PDF 1.7)<br /><br />Then, my image as viewed in the Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional has several white lines, outlining areas of color.  You can see it here: <br /><br />http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/Mont-ImmortalSquirrel/Ai-PDF_whitelines.jpg<br /><br />The image connected to this link was captured with PrntScrn and copied into Photoshop, cropped, and saved as a jpeg.  The issue is perfectly preserved, as you can see the white lines outlining areas of color.  This problem is persistent despite the zoom level in Acrobat 8.  <br /><br />Just another little bit of information, the problem is most noticeable in the red area and not the cream/white and yellow areas.  When I was working on the original raster image in Photoshop CS3, the cream/white area was done with the Ellipse Tool, using Bevel and Emboss in the Blending Options.  The same goes for the yellow area, which was done with the Line Tool.  The red area was done manually, with the Brush Tool, Smudge, Blur, Burn, etc.<br /><br />I'm telling you guys just about everything I've done leading up to this issue.  But, if there's something you need to know more, I'll try to figure out what I could've possibly done wrong to get this result.

I too get this result when using LiveTrace. My simple solution to this problem was to just place a solid color shape behind that section of the trace where it occurs that is the same color as the trace. Simple...but it worked.

  • Movie distortion when burned using iDVD 6

    Hello,
I am creating a movie with iMovie 6 and when I tried to preview a 'work in progress' version on my TV by burning a DVD using iDVD 6 there is a problem. What happens is whenever there is rapid movement of a subject, eg an arm movement, the subject (arm) becomes distorted and 'lined instead of it's normal solid, smooth shape. There is also a slight reduction in clarity in the picture in general. I have made movies before (albeit with earlier versions of iMovie and iDVD on OS X 10.3.9 iMac) and burned them to DVD without any problem.
    Can anyone help please?
    Thanks
    Dan

I am also having problems with the image quality of the DVDs burned from iDVD. Are there no "experts" or moderators on these forums to respond to this issue
There are several experts here with knowledge about iDVD and creating DVDs, but we find it impossible to respond to general 'rants'. You will find MANY message threads here in which we have helped people who came here with specific problems.
Saying "I am also having problems with the image quality of the DVDs burned from iDVD" tells us NOTHING. What is the source of your video content? How long is the video content in minutes? What format (CODEC) is it in? ... the list can go on.
NTSC DVDs are low resolution devices (less than 640x480 pixels - that's 0.3 megapixels) and may be heavily mpg-2 compressed. They are designed for viewing on TV sets and not full screen on computer monitors.
Are there no "experts" or moderators on these forums to respond to this issue?
... and what did you expect us to say?

  • Overprint / Transparency Question

Hi, all. I'm working on a logo which will need to be separated for 2-color offset printing.  To produce shading effects, I've created a solid black shape to which I've applied a black/white gradient as an opacity mask.  I've set this piece over an identical shape filled with a PMS blue.  The idea is to overprint the black ink as a solid-to-transparent gradient over the blue solid to produce the shading.  When I set the black gradient to "Overprint Fill" and view the logo in "Overprint Preview" the result looks great on screen.  The design also features a hard bevel, the dark edges of which are produced by placing semi-transparent shapes filled with black and also set to "Overprint Fill".
However, when I go to save the file I'm presented with a warning about how using spot colors with transparency can "generate unexpected results".  In the save dialog box there is also a message that says "Overprints will not be preserved in areas that interact with transparency".  What does all of this mean for my poor little logo when it goes to press?
Here's an example of what I'm trying to achieve.  The highlight is a simple gradient from white into the blue, but the shading is performed as outlined above.  Any insight would be appreciated.  Thanks!

The way I understand it is he is using a Black gradient over Blue.  The White can be White, but in this case, probably 0% Black will work.  The Opacity Mask is probably considered "Transparent" along with the Black bevel elements, hence the warnings.  I wonder if those elements can be left without transparency and set to "Overprint Fill".  For instance, a 30% Black on a single bevel element could be set to O.P. with no transparency settings.  There will be no screen view of the effect, but it will separate as a 30% Black overprint.  Same with the gradient.  It will not preview with the effect, but will separate as a Black gradient set to overprint ( no Opacity Mask necessary ).  Or, keep everything the same except apply "Multiply" in the transparency setting ( along with Overprint Fill in the Attributes dialog ).  This gives you the preview of the effect, but the nagging warnings.
