Solid color background won't stay as specified

I'm trying to put a gray (68c, 63m, 60y, 51k) background behind a smaller element in a clip. Every time I click okay, save and render the file, I go back and check the gray in the Solid color control tab, and it has changed to 77c, 73m, 71y and 38k. Very frustrating. Any one know what I'm doing wrong?
(I'm posting stills and video clips to a site that has a gray field I want to match. The CMYK settings I got from the stills when I set them up in Photoshop and they match the site background perfectly. That's why I'm using CMYK. It is odd that FCE lets you use CMYK, but it does, so it should work, right?)

Hi -
I believe that while you can enter a color value in CYMK, the sequence you are working on in FCE is always in RGB colorspace. Therefore the CYMK value is converted to the nearest RGB value for display as video.
Hope this helps.

  • How to create transparent text on a solid color background?

I want to create a transparent text on a solid color backround, and I need text transparency to go all the way to through the image (i.e. do not show the solid color background). I have the transparent background layer, the solid rectangle layer that occupies part of the image, and the text layer (with text element) on the top of the solid rectangle layer. How do I make text transparency to go all the way through? Here is a similar example for Photoshop CS, only in my case, the backround layer is transparent (i.e. there is no picture): http://www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-effects/transparent-text-area/. Basically, I need to make the letters see through, so they show the backround color on which the image will be placed. Is it possible to do in Photoshop Elements? I'm using version 9 on Windows 7. Thanks.

Thank you all for the suggestions, especially 99jon. 99jon's walktrhough is helpful, but I was hoping to find a workaround that would allow keeping transparent text that goes all the way through all other layers to transparent background as a text level, but once I flatten the image, I'd lose the text layer, so I cannot make any changes to it (like slightly change the font, size, style, face, etc). Let me clarify a bit what I'm trying to do to see if there is an even better option.
Say, I need to have a 300x300 pixel image that (forget about photos) consists of a solid-color circle (circle can be white, black, red, blue, or any solid color, or gradient, does not matter) on a transparent background, and inside of this circle I'd like to cut out a word (say, the word "TEST" with no bevels or other decoration, just flat font) all the way to the transparent background. I just need a circle with text cut out and showing around the circle and through the word "TEST". So if a circle is white and I place the image on a blue background, the word "TEST" would be in blue (so would be the area around the circle).
Is there a way to set it up to allow changing the color of the circle (say, from white to black, or blue, or red) and keep smooth edges of the text (and circle) blending with the background (i.e. avoid jagged edges) without redoing every color variation from scratch? Like, getting some master file which would define size and position of the elements,a s well as font, etc, and from this master file, use simple adjustments to change the color.
Ideally (in my dream world), there would be an option for the text element to be of transparent color that would go through all layers below it. But there must be a not too complex way to do this, right?

  • I have a png that I've placed on a solid color background and it looks fine on the screen. When I print it, I see the faded ghost of it's bounding box.

I have a png that I've placed on a solid color background and it looks fine on the screen. When I print it, I see the faded ghost of it's bounding box. Basically, it losing at least part of the transparency in the file, but only when it goes to print. This happens whether I print it from illustrator, Indesign, or a pdf. If I open and print it from Photoshop it's fine. Is there some sort of setting that needs to be changed?
I'm posting a photo of the result.

Can you post the png so we can take a look at it?

  • How to get solid color background in Photo Booth?

I checked the Help menu for Photo Booth and my experience does not match the descriptions in the Help. I want to have the speaker in front ofd the iMac with a deep blue background. I found a deep blue swatch of color in Google and placed it into the thumbnail. As per instructions, I clicked onto that thumbnail. However, at this point the instructions stop matching my experience.
The colors seems to slowly ever so slowly fill the rectangle. Sometimes a message saying “Get out of the picture” comes up, so I get out of the picture and let the color fill the thumbnail rectangle.
Is it supposed to take a long time for the color to completely fill the box? The Help menu doesn't mention how long one must wait.
Any word on this would be appreciated.

Yeah, I also experience problems with the video and user-choosable backgrounds in photo booth. I think the preview's of these effects on apple's website are a little touched up because I can't imagine somebody getting one of these backgrounds to look perfect. But when choosing these effects make sure what you are wearing doesn't blend in with what is behind you and I think the best way to set the background is to stay in the picture at first until it tells you to move and then get out of the way. Hope this helps(although I'm not sure there is much that can be done with this issue)!

  • Color theme won't stay put

    Hi gang,
Seems like every week or so, I open InDesign CC, and it comes up in that horrid dark user color theme. I change it to the light theme. But a week later, it starts up dark again. I'm not sure, but it might be happening after a patch. Anyone else seeing this? This is happening on my Creative Cloud subscription, Win7 version; not my Mac OS 10.8.
    Best to you,
    Mike Witherell in Maryland

Lots of people seeing it. It's an annoyance but not much more since none
of the other prefs are resetting.
    See if this helps:

  • Color fill won't stay within shape boundaries

When anyone looks at my site in Internet Explorer, the color boxes (shapes with color fill) spill over the shape boundaries above and below and everywhere. I thought this would be solved when I switched to web safe fonts. It isn't. How do I keep the colors within the shapes?
    Thank you.

Another way to make image files of the shapes or group of shapes is to:
1 - create them on a blank page like AllAboutiWeb suggested.
2 - select them all and do a Copy.
3 - open Preview and select File->New From Clipboard menu option.
4 - in the new window with the objects do a Command+A and then a Command+C (select all and then copy).
5 - go back to iWeb and do a paste it the page you want the objects. This will create a image of the objects that IE can view. It's about the only way to get color gradients to be viewed outside of Safari.
Wyodor posted this method in another post. Works very well.

  • Background won't stay transparent

When I make a project with a transparent background the background becomes white when I export it for use in another application/program/etc.
When I create the project I set the background to transparent. I do not add a new background to compete with the transparent background.
    Any way around this?

I have used Photoshop CS3 and worked primarily on a MAC for the past 5 years. However, at my current employment I have to perform all work using a PC, with Photoshop CS4. When using a MAC, I know you can select images that you wish to be transparent, go to Help, and export image as transparent, allowing you to bring this image into any program displaying only the object, no background is included. How can I perform the same function in Photoshop CS4 on a PC? I have tried searching for help or tips on-line, but instructions either don't work or not explained to where they make sense to me. I hate PC! I love my MAC!!!
Thanks for any help you all can provide.

  • Desktop Background won't stay!

When I create a desktop background from a photo in iPhoto, it doesn't remain as the background after I restart the computer (or shut down and boot up again)...the background goes back to the default galaxy shot.  Anyone know why this is?  Thank you for your help!

That is a corrupt preference file.
Download the free TinkerTool to tun on Invisible Items, now look in your Users/Library/Preferences folder for a
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
file and delete it, reboot the machine and reset your system preferences.
turn off invisible items in TinkerTool

  • Windows 7 User/Company Domain - Can't Change Background, Only Solid Colors

For about 10 months now, I have not been able to change my background to an image or theme successfully on my PC at work. When I try to make the change, it results in a solid color. Basically, I can only have solid color backgrounds. However, other co-workers
can log on with their account and have no issues. This led me to believe it was an issue with my account in active directory. No... I can log into another PC in the office and change the background just fine. Basically, it is a problem that only is occurring
on MY computer with MY user account. I have read things about people creating new users and then just switching over to that user, but I can not do that because it is a company domain that my user account is on.
I have read several forums for help on this but nothing works and my situation is slightly different. Does anybody know what the issue is or have a solution?
    Thanks,
    Carl

    Hi,
Please open control panel\Ease of Access Center\Make the computer easier to see, scroll down to the bottom, make sure to untick
    Remove background images
If you haven't ticked this option, then
Copy and paste this to the search box in start button
    %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Themes\
In the window that opens, delete the TranscodedWallpaper file, then try to set a wallpaper normally again.

  • Desktop solid color settings in Windows 7

    Hi,
Could someone tell me how to change the Hue, Sat and Lum settings for Solid color Black (desktop background) in registry?
I have applied solid color black and want to set the Hue, Sat and Lum to 160, 0, 1 through registry.
I do tried changing the value HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Colors\ Background, but it doesn't reflect.
    Appreciate your help!
    Regards,
    Prabu

    Sorry, works for me.
    What happens if you use
Control Panel -> Appearance and Personalization -> Personalization
    to change the background color?
Why do you want to use the registry to set the background color anyway?
Are you using a third party theme?
Do you have any GPO's applied to your machine?
You could also try following the directions in the answer to this thread

to delete the TranscodedWallpaper file - if it is present.

  • Folder background color won't stay

Help would definitely be appreciated for this one. It's frustrating. I want the backgrounds of my folders to be different colors, simply for the look, but every time I change the color and leave the folder - I will come back to that folder and it will have a different color applied. Any ideas what's causing this or how to control it?

for my part, i can say : yes. all folders for which the background color is set.
    closing and reopening switches color.
switching from "this window" to "all windows" and back also triggers the alternation of colors in the "this window" mode.
    steps :
    - create folder
    - open it
    - set icon view
    - set color background for "this window"
    - close it
    - open it again
    or, after setting color background:
    - switch to "all windows"
    - switch to "this window"
...while doing this you may withness another strange behavior: each time the folder window opens, its position is offseted right and down, until it goes back to its intial position and the cycle starts over.

  • How can I make the background one solid color?  It is too difficult and noticeable when I use the retouch button and try to erase all the creases in my backdrop.  So, how can I have just a solid white background?

How can I make the background one solid color?  It is too difficult and noticeable when I use the retouch button and try to erase all the creases in my backdrop.  So, how can I have just a solid white background?

When talking about a specific image posting the image may be useful.
One can use a Layer Mask and add a white Layer underneath.

  • In imovie, I have greenscreen clip.  First I want to change background to solid color THEN add a picture within picture.  When I try to stack all 3, I get two but not all three.....help!  thanks!

in imovie 10.0.2, i have a green screen clip.  first i want to change background - solid color probably - but then i'd like to also add a picture within picture along side the video....have attempted to "stack" all three, and can get two out of three but not all three....what's the trick?  thanks!

In iMovie you can only do two at a time. So the work-around would be to do the green screen/change background color part. Then Share this. Then import this piece back into an event. Then add the picture in picture.
In Final Cut Pro X, you could easily do what you are describing.
The main reason is that iMovie does all rendering in one pass. Final Cut Pro X allows multiple renders as you go along, so you can do much more complex effects.

  • Visited links using Safari on my iPad 2 won't stay the "visited" color

Visited links using Safari on my iPad 2 won't stay the "visited" color after I close the tab, put the iPad in sleep mode (or whatever it's called), or when I power off the iPad.
There are certain sites I visit where it comes in very handy to be able to see which links I've already clicked on. The links will stay the "visited" color during the time I'm on the site, but later they all go back to the "unvisited" color.
Is there any way I can fix this on an iPad?

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Select all then edit fill is one way.
However if you mean the background behind a subject you need to separate the subject from its background the change just the background.  Look for tutorials on replacing background and extracting subjects
