Solid State Drive on 13" MacBook

I have a late 2008 model MacBook unibody and I am looking to upgrade my HDD from the old spinning drive to a SSD. Can someone with a macbook that order the SSD installed direct from apple please tell me the part number and details so I can order it.
Apple wont help me order the drive or even give me any information other than "128GB SSD" so I am hoping my MAC friends can help!

You can buy and install any current 2.5" SSD that has a SATA connection, as nearly all of them do. Which drive Apple installs in configure-to-order MBPs may vary from day to day and week to week. There is no assurance that two machines ordered with SSDs installed will both have the same unit in them. The buyer can't specify what make or model of SSD he will get — only the size. You can choose what you'll get if you order your own SSD from an independent vendor.

Yes you can upgrade it. Unless your MBP is one of the new Retina display models. Is it one of the new models with the Retina display?
If not it is the same as changing a regular hard drive. you buy a new bigger SSD. Take the bottom off, aboput 8 screws. Take the part that holds the SSD drive inplace. Remove the cable connector. Remove the 4 mounting screws on the side of the original SSD and istall them on the new SSD Re-Connect the cable. Slide the drive into the drive area. Replace the hold down part. Then put the bottom back on.
Then connect the original SSD to the compuiter with a SATA to USB adapter. Boot the system and hold down the Option key. At the screen that come up select the USB attached SSD and boot the system from it. Open Disk utility and Partition the new drive as 1 partition, format it Mac Extended (Journaled) giving the partition the name of Macintosh HD (or any name you like). Once that is done exit out of disk utility and get a copy of Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper then install that. Run it and clone from the USB attached SSD to the SSD you just installed inside your system. Once that is done shut the system down, disconnect the USB attached SSD and then power on the system. It should now boot to the internal SSD you install. To nbe on the safe side go into System Preferences, Startup Disk and make sure the internal SSD is selected. You are done.

I've done 6 so far and no problems at all; formatting, installing nothing. Total no brainer. I did have a small formatting problem on my last one but I called them and solved the problem before the guy got on the phone. He immediately offered a return sticker (RMA) but I didn't need it and the MBP is running fine.

You should order it with as much storage as you can afford rather than doing a post purchase upgrade because of the warranty being voided.

I've reviewed the 80GB Intel X25-M solid state drive (SSD), along with the Hitachi 320GB Travelstar 7K320, Seagate 320GB Momentus 7200.3, Western Digital 320GB Scorpio Black and Western Digital 500GB Scorpio Blue.
All of these are great drives for the MBP, but the X25-M really screams for anything with reads, and writes are quite respectable.

Solid State Drive Issue on Macbook pro mid 2012 extremely slow

I recently purchased a Corsair Force LS solid state drive and installed it on my laptop. The hard drive is extremely slow and I cant even install Yosemite on it. It's stuck at the installation screen and kept showing the remaining wait time is 12 mins. I left it over night but it's still stuck there. I thought the hard drive was defective so I returned and bought a Kingston ssd. I put it back in and have the same issue. I also bought the Hard Drive Caddy tray to replace the optical drive with the ssd. The hard drive works like charm when I swapped it with the optical drive. I was able to install Yosemite on it and works like charm. However, When I put it back to the hard drive slot. I was able to boot into Yosemite but It is extremely slow. I called apple and they said that they don't support that. It is so weird. I don't know what to do now

I some help. Have been using macbooks for a while now and usually would install a bigger hard drive myself just to get a little more room. I just ordered a 13.3 i5 macbook pro but it's coming with a 320 hd. I just saw that bestbuy has a serial ata 500gb ssd for $139 and I thinking about installing one of these in my mac when it arrives. I have not used an SSD before but from what I've read about it, it seems it'll be fun. What I need to know though is, will it work on this macbook and is it as easy to install as other hard drives?

2) it is "not" an SSD, it is a hybrid drive. Only 4GB is actually SSD, the rest is standard rotational hard drive.
You might get slightly better performance, but nothing close to an actual SSD.

If the bank account permits, I suggest getting a 1 TB SSD anyway. One cannot have too much storage.
Unless you are having issues with your current installation, a 'clean' install is not necessary. It would be more efficient to clone your current drive to the new SSD, test it, and then do the swap. The installation of Mavericks over Snow Leopard can be done either before or after the cloning process.

No. But you can add an external drive for storage uses. However, if you bought it within the past 14 days from date of purchase you can exchange for the model you prefer unless it is a CTO model.

A 15" mid-2009 MBP RAM specifications are: 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM.
As has been pointed out, OWC is an excellent source for Mac compatible RAM. Crucial is another first rate source for Mac RAM. RAM from either vendor will work just as well as any purchased from Apple with the bonus of being less expensive and having a lifetime guarantee.

As mentioned, you don't indicate the circumstances that would warrant consideration of multiple partitions. Moreover, you also don't indoicate the size of the SSD in question.
Like Fred said, ordinarily you leave it alone as one. Some people like to keep data and the OS/apps separate, but it is for specific reasons.

I just bought a Macbook Air 13" 2012 solid state drive (256GB) w/ 8GB Ram and I would like to be able to dual boot to Windows 7 and have a 3rd partition to share files between both Operating Systems. go to the Store and configure all the models with upgrades but... an SSD will be fast and responsive, no noise or heat and adds $200 probably to the cost
