Solidworks & Adobe

I have been having a few issues when looking into using 3D models from Solidworks 2006.
1 - Is it possible to set opacity so that it carries through to the final PDF? I'm currently exporting from Solidworks to STEP file and then from STEP File to U3D. I can set the opacity in Adobe Toolkit but then it doesn't carry through... any idea's?
2 - Does anyone know of a more convenient way of using Solidworks 2006 files?
3 - Does Adobe have any plans to release a compatibility patch so that it works with SW06 files?
4 - Is it possible to export SW06 animations through to the final PDF?
Your help is much appreciated

We also are using step files form SW06 to adobe, we like the ease of use, and that everyone has it or can get the reader. I tried the basic file exports and found step to work the best because it retained the tree and parts. I have had to set a rotate on converstion because for some reason its flipping my parts over during the conversion, dont know why.

  • How do I put a SolidWorks assembly (.SLDASM) into Adobe Acrobat XI Pro?

I recently watched a video on Adobe TV called "Adding Interactive 3D Models in Technical Documentation."  In the video, a SolidWorks Assembly file (.SLDASM) was dragged into Acrobat 9 Pro Extended to create a 3D Pdf.  I have tried to do this in Acrobat XI Pro, but I keep getting an error message that the file is either of a non-supported file type or is damaged.  Is there any way to get around this problem?

    Hi Starr Oil Tools,
3D conversion capability in Acrobat XI is handled by an Adobe partner named Tetra 4D. They provide Acrobat/Reader plug-ins with 3D capability.
    Please see  http://www.tetra4d.com/
I'm not certain of whether the specific conversion you want is available, but that is the place to look.

  • How can I export an Adobe illustrator CC .AI file to a DWG or DXF file suitable for SolidWorks?

    Hi
    Can anyone help?
How can I export an Adobe illustrator CC .AI file to a DWG or DXF file,  without SolidWorks enlarging the file & converting every curve into hundreds of short little straight lines rather than a single continuous line/s.
I have made sure the file is ungrouped or has any compound paths or colours.
Opening it in Autocad 2010 still converts the DWG file into hundreds of short little straight lines!
The file is needed to laser cut out an aluminium shape using SolidWorks 2008 (Metal soft)?
    Formats they can handle are:
    DWG, DXF, IGES, IGA
There must be a way to export it without re-drawing the whole design in Soildworks again!!??
    Can anyone help?
    INCA

Not really. This is a limitation you will have to live with. Unless you are extremely careful, most paths will be converted to polyline segments by AI and in particular in AI CC this is somehow busted, so it happens more often. You might have much more luck opening a native AI file in DraftSight or a 2D CAD program like TurboCAD and exporting a DWG or 2D IGES/ STEP file from there. The sizing issue is a different matter, but without knowing what units you actualyl used, nobody can advise.

  • Adobe Acrobat 3D and SolidWorks 2006

    Hi there,
I was just wondering if anybody else experiences problems with Acrobat 3D and SolidWorks 2006. When I try to convert 3D models from Solidworks 2006 I get an error message: The file contains no displayable geometry.
Converting SolidWorks 2005 models causes no problems.
I am grateful for any help.
    Thx
    Daniel

    Hi,
    Thx for your replys too.
I put some sample files in the web, you can download them at:
    http://trshare.triumf.ca/~albers/
The frequency tripler is an converted SW2005 file. (no colours)
The BRF rotary mount files are a converted SW2006 file and a SW2006 sldprd file.
The laser beam is a sw2005 file and the converted pdf file.
I am using the programs on a Acer Notebook with a ATI X700 grafic card.
Driver Provider: ATI Technologies Inc. (Omega 2.6.87)
    Driver Date: 22.11.2005
    Driver Version: 8.201.0.0
    XP SP2
    SW2006 SP2
Adobe Acrobat 3D V7.0.7 Try out version
I tried different things to convert and the strange thing is Acrobat 3D can convert my SW2005 files but not the SW2006. Are the SW settings so important when you try to convert them in the explorer with right click and than convert to pdf? Because SW isn't started and all necessary informations should be in the file. So maybe it is the way my SW2006 files are saved.
I don't have my notebook with me at the moment but I will check the settings and put it also on the web folder for you.
Thank you very much and have a nice weekend.

  • Solidworks and Adobe putting it all together

    Hello,
I am struggling to understand how I can go from a SolidWorks 3D model to a usable animated training video for the web, hand held, and/or local computer. Our products are getting more complex and 3D training videos would be great. I do not have SolidWorks software so I need to get from a SolidWorks model to an animated training video. I understand that SolidWorks 2010 is not working with Adobe at the moment but if it was what would be the most efficient way to get this done. I currently have Adobe CS4 production premium. Can someone walk me through or at least tell me what Adobe software's will get this done.
So far I have created a jpg from SolidWorks, used Illistrator live trace to convert to vector. Imported to Flash and used Swift 3D express plug in.
This is not good enough for what I want to do. If I upgrade to Adobe CS5 production premium, will I be able to do this more efficiently? If so what would be the software path? Do I need something else?
    Thank you

So does anyone know if there is a timeframe on when Solidworks 2010 will be supported? This version of SolidWorks has been out for almost a year now and we use Acrobat quite a bit translate files.

  • Can we open Solidworks 2009 files with Acrobat 9 pro extended

    Hello,
I'm testing Acrobat 9.0.0 Pro extended and I can not open Solidworks 2009 files. But I can open Solidworks 2007 files. I'm on Windows XP 64 bits.
Can you tell me if this feature is corrected in newer version as 9.1 and later?
Or any other solution to be able to open the Solidworks 2009 files directly in Acrobat (without the need to open solidworks to convert the files into pdf 3D)?
    Thanks for your help.

Yes, you can convert 2010 SolidWorks file to STEP or PARASOLID files sometimes
you loose some informations during those conversions then you can read those files into Acrobat then sometimes you
can loose more informations... Why Adobe doesn't update some CAD formats what's append ???
In the first post nobody whan't to answer to my question ... why ???
    Is-it an Adobe forum ???

  • Poor image quality when exporting Solidworks Drawings to PDF

When "printing" to PDF in Solidworks the drawings become very low quality, within Solidworks they look great, printing to a printer...they look great as well. When printed from another computer to PDF the documents look fine.
This door is contained within the drawing I am trying to print (not the actual assembly) THAT is how it turns out in the actual PDF. note how the straight lines are broken up.  I have tried to adjust print settings within Adobe to High Quality and no change. What other settings can I look into to resolve this issue??? It is definitely isolated to my pc alone.

    Hi M0lsen,
What version of Acrobat are you using? Do PDFs from other applications exhibit similar issues? And when you print to PDF from the other computer, is the setup there the same (same version of Acrobat, same version of Solidworks)?
    Best,

  • Why Adobe acrobat 8 does not capture some models

I am using Adobe Acrobat 8 with solidworks 2010. I am using generate 3D from captue feature and am able to generate 3d pdf files of single objects but whenever I use assemblies or STEP objects that i imported from NX and opened in solidworks it does not work. It does everything .... like asking those standard questions that it will take time depending on the size of the object.... and then shows me the task bar... showing that the capture is in process.... but at the end of it... it just shows a blank pdf file with no geometries. what can be teh reason
    thanks

Have you tried Repairing the Acrobat installation?

  • Slow "not responding" reader Adobe 9.3 only on my PC

I already saw many discussions about this issue.
I have a brand new coputer and we have installed now Adobe reader 9.3.
I have so many problems with pdf files. My computer stops for a while when I'm only pointing with my mouse over a pdf document in the explorer; not even opeing it.
I don't have problems with all pdf files, but a pdf with signatures or colours are hopeless.
When I open this same pdf, from the same location on a really old computer from my colleque; there is no problem at all.
Can somebody please advise how i should proceed.
-I have a 3d mouse / solidworks and autocad which I use often; but i don't think that's the problem.
    Thanks o much!

to get vista we have actually removed the harddrives from the laptops and had them reimaged from xp to vista...and when we get them back we would insert them in the computer and they would go through a "ghosting" process. we actually had not had this issue until 9.3.2 came out....one source told us that 9.3.2 was a security update, and our machines run on a government system, or a DoD network, where in order to log on you need a military ID and a valid account with IA Awareness Certification attached....in order to even install a printer you need admin rights...is it possible that the fact that its a security update have anything to do with it and the security of our network be causing it to malfunction the way it is....because right now we have resorted to reimaging the hard drive and have the user save everything of theres onto our share drive.

  • Architectural designing with Adobe software?

    Hello,
Can anyone tell me if there is software from Adobe that lets you design architectural drawings?
I'm searching for my own company [url removed by host]
    With kind regards,
    Leon Herbers

While you could design architechural drawings in Illustrator, specialty programs offer certain advantages. Architectural drawing were originally designed by hand. Illustrator is certainly a step up from that. Programs like AutoCad, SolidWorks offer advantages.

  • Solidworks/3d modeling on a macmini

Okay so I have used sketchUp, autoCAD, Adobe creative suite all successfully on a 2006 macbook, I'm now on my 3rd hard drive so have decided to ditch the laptop and buy a netbook for net and a macmini for creative stuff.
Anyway has anyone used solidworks on a macmini and how did it cope? i was told as its shared graphics it may not be great. I don't really want an imac and can't budget a mac pro.
    So any thoughts.

  • SolidWorks 07 configs

    Hi
When i import an assembly into Adobe 3D 8 from Solidworks 2007 the option of what config to use appears, e.g i choose the cross section config, certain parts of the assembly will cross section, but most of it won't and sometimes the part won't even change from its defaut state.
Is it something to do with the way i am saving the part in Solidworks?
Or the way i make the config?
I would be grateful for any information or advice on thje subject

Did you try doing the conversion using the entry 'PRC Tessallation (faceted)' for the '3D format in PDF' setting in the conversion settings dialog box?

  • SolidWorks 2007 Files

    Hi,
I just installed the trial version of Acrobat 3D. By reading some tech notes, I did a capture of a Solidworks 2007 assembly by doing a screenprint in the eDrawings viewer. When I eventually opened the assembly in 3D Toolbox, it came through as one object, i.e. I couldn't seem to move individual parts.
How can I do this? (Please bear with me, I am a very new user.)
Better question would be: when will Acrobat 3D support SolidWorks 2007 files? Or future SW releases for that matter? This is critical if we are to buy. Initial impressions look good.
    Thanks!
    -Dana D.

To import Solidworks 2007 files directly (conversion, not Capture) and thereby preserve product structure, etc., simply download the updater for Acrobat 3D 7 from the Adobe web site and install the update. Acrobat 3D 7 + the online updater will convert Solidworks 2007 files.

  • FM 8 and SolidWorks drawings

    Hello:
Graphics are not my strong point and I've been tasked with updating some 2-D drawings for one of my manuals. I've spent an afternoon trying to re-create a rather simple figure without much success and I was wondering whether there is a way for me to be able to edit figures drawn in SolidWorks. I can get drawings from the designer but I'm not sure about which format to request them and what intermediate steps I might need to take. I am using Frame v8.0p277 and SolidWorks v9.0.0.706.
I'm learning so much from reading these posts and I'm hoping that not only can I find a solution but that someone else benefits, too.
    TIA,
    Kimberly

    Kimberly,
Assuming that you have access to "real" Solidworks (and not eDrawing viewer) and Adobe Illustrator:
Arrange/rotate the desired 3D view of the model in SW.
Create a SW drawing file from the view (there are 2-3 steps to do this which I can't elaborate on right now as I don't have SW on this PC).
Save the drawing file in DXF format.
Open the DXF file in Illustrator (right-click the file and do "Open with..." or do "File/Open" within Illustrator)
Clean up and edit the drawing as necessary (add callouts, etc.).
Save the Illustrator file as either AI or EPS depending on your publishing environment.
Import the graphic file into FM.
    Fred
