Solstice enterprise agent and Sun Mgmt Center

Is anyone familiar with a way to convert a sub-agent developed with Solstice Enterprise Agent and APIs into a Sun Management Center sub-agent? I have a MIB as well as source code for the stubbed code generated by mibcodegen. ... Not sure if this is totally useless at this point and I have to start from scratch.

The MIB files are located under /var/snmp/mib , as for the OID i can't remember.. but if i remember i can check some old documents which i should have somewhere (unless someone else manages to answer first ;-)
As to the snmpwalk problem, ensure that you have the latest patches, i recall there being a snmpwalk <-> EA bug. It might have been in Solaris 9, but it might also have been in an earlier release.
Anyway, the latest Enterprise Agent patches are always good for security reasons.

  • How to manage coexistance of IIS policy agent and sun-passthrough from AS

    We have an ISS 6 with Policy Agent 2.2 and on same instance we have the sun-passthrough plugin installed to redirect certain pages to an Application mounted on Sun App Server 8,2. We need to apply policies to requests to those pages before redirection is done but seams that passthrough plugin is taking precedence over Policy Agent. Therefore, policies are not evaluated and all traffic is passed. PA agent is installed as a wild card and passthrough as an ISAPI filter. We do not see a way to change priority (already set to HIGH) for the passthrough plugin. PA has the option on amAgent.properties and we set it allready to HIGH. Any hint?

  • Solstice Agent and SMC Integration

    This is a long shot, but has anybody attempted to integrate the Sun Management Center (SMC) Agent with the Solstice Enterprise Agent (SEA)? Can it be done ? Do you make the SMC Agent a sub-agent of SEA ? If so, what are the problems ? I am looking to utilise the SMC Agent for specific purposes, but cannot find any documentation detailing the logisitics of integrating it with SEA.

  • Sun Management Center and Reduced Core Installs

    hey all,
    I just discovered the Sun Management Center and the tool looks great for the servers I need to manage. However due to security reasons all our servers are installed as Reduced Network Core installs where we then add the minimal extra packages.
    At the moment I am still testing everything but I am a bit stuck here and I believe that I might be missing some packages. I can get the server to find the agent but there I cannot load any of the modules. Sniffing the traffic does seem to show that the info is sent ( a list of names I recognise as module names) but the console does not show anything and reports an error unable to load module info.
    Is there a full package list that is required to run the management center server and client? The agent runs fine on my desktop but that is a full install.
    I already noticed the command ping is required, but am unsure about snmp daemons. What other packages will i need to install? The manual doesn't really give any information on that and seems to start from a full install

    Never mind,
    The problem was in the firewall who was defragmenting packets. Once I disabled that feature the server worked fine.
    Seems just ping is enough to get the installer working.

  • Confused between Netbeans and Sun Studio Enterprise

    Hi all,
    Acually I am very confused between Netbeans and Sun Studio Enterprise/Creator.
    Why sun did not concentrate on one IDE as Microsoft is doing with Visual Studio?
    Now, I do not know what to learn....Netbeans or Sun Studio !!!
    What make me more confused is that both are supported oficially by Sun. And both are free for SDN members!!!!!
    So, what is the difference???!!!
    regards

    I tried it back when it was called Forte, and it seamed pretty
    identical to netbeans. the only difference was that Forte could
    only be used for personal use without a license.

  • Sun java Enterprise Studio and ejb diagrams

    Can I use the studio to create ejb diagrams?
    If so, can I use the studio to reverse engineering existing ejbs and create these diagrams?

    Can you clarify what you mean by EJB diagrams. You can create class diagrams that have model elements that represent EJB objects.
    The UML tool has support for design patterns. We have a couple of design pattern catalogs that provide some EJB support. You can even graphically create you own design patterns.
    The UML project will also reverse engineer Enterprise projects and create a UML model. With the UML model you can create UML diagrams.
    Can you give me any information about EJB support that you would like to see in the UML tool?

  • 3rd party MIBs in Sun Management Center

    Hello:
    I have just installed a Sun Mangement Center 3.5 environment.
    Also configured some SNMP object, some as proxy monytoring and other just as SNMP ping.
    Now I have to configure some SNMP objects for which I have SNMPv2 MIBS and I dont know how to do it.
    The Installation manual talks about configuring a legacy agent as a subagent.......is that the way to go?
    I,ve read the instructions but there are some things I cant understand.
    The SNMP object is configured to transmit to the SMC server and to 1162 port.
    The MIB file is on the SMC server machine is called sylantro.my and just placed it in /opt/SUNWsymon/sylantro/ directory, should this file reside in another directory?
    How should I fill the info in subagent-registry-d.x?
    sa2 = {
         type     = legacy
         persist     = false
         snmpPort = "1162"
         errorAction = restart
         startCommand     = "/usr/lib/snmp/mibiisa -p %port"
         stopCommand     = "kill -9 %pid"
         pollInterval = 60
         pollHoldoff = 60
         oidTrees = 1.3.6.1.4.1
         snmpVersion = SNMPv2
         securityLevel = noauth
         securityName =public
    Questions:
    is the name sa2 in the example arbitrary? or is related to the MIB file?
    startCommand which command should I use to start????? I only have a MIB file, or should I use mibiisa command? if so, where is the MIB file related to the subagent-registry-d.x file?
    oidTrees is this data in the MIB file? I found some documents that expresed 1.3.6.1.4.1.3945 I found that 3945 in the MIB, but the previous numbers do not.
    snmpVersion is SNMPv2 ok?
    securityLevel is ok to place noauth here? when setup for SMC was done I typed something for seed and also the default public string
    How sould this SNMP object be configured in SMC to be able to monitor that object?
    Ok this is all, thanks for any help.

    Hi cva01,
    If you'd like to poll your device for all its data and see it all inside SunMC then you'd have to use the SDK that comes with SunMC and the "Module Builder" module to import the MIB (or do it by hand). If it's something you'll need to use a lot of my company can build Sylantro monitoring from that MIB for you.
    If you only want traps that come from the device, we'll be releasing an Event Gateway module soon that allows a SunMC Agent to decode and log (and alarm on) SNMP traps.
    The subagent example you found shows how to have SunMC forward specific data acquisition requests through itself to another SNMP Agent. i.e. if there's another SNMP process on the same system as the SunMC Agent and you'd prefer to only have to poll a single process instead of two.

  • Domain Agents and E6900 with multiple NICs.

    Hello,
    I have some issues configuring Sun management Center 3.6 (and 3.6.1) on a network with this characteristics:
    2 x E6900 (with 2 Domains each one)
    1 x v210
    The Server Component of Sun Management Center is installed on the v210. In this machine are installed the Platform Agents of the 2 System Controllers of the 2 E6900.
    Each domain has installed de Sun Management Center Agent.
    The network configuration of the Domains is this:
    Each domain has 3 NIC on 3 different network interfaces, and each NIC has its own hostname. One of this NIC is destinated to the administration network to be used for the Sun Management Center. This nic, as I said before, has its own hostname but it its different of the nodename (the node name is the same as the public interface of the domain, not the administration interface).
    The Domains does not use DNS, and the information included on the /etc/hosts is related to local NICs and the NICs of the other Domains, but anyone contains the NIC of the admin interface of other domain nor the NIC of the v210.
    The v210 does not has DNS neither, and has only their own information on /etc/hosts.
    All Domains has Solaris 9, and v210 has Solaris 10.
    Basically the problem is:
    "The Domain Agents cannot communicate with SunMC Server", when I manually add each agent. The discovery process doesn't work neither.
    I checked the domain-config.x of one domain and it shows:
    agent = {
    agentServer = "venwas1"
    logicalAddressMode = "ip"
    snmpPort = "1161"
    "venwas1" is the hostname of the public interface, nor the administration interface.
    I changed the value for the hostname of the administration interface with no success; then changed for the ip address of the administration interface; and no success neither.
    The default platform agent works, but does not appers with the corrent icon on the SunMC console. Its appears like a folder icon, and the documentation said that the Platform Agents is represented with a specific Icon.
    Please, anyone can help me ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Alejandro,
    I checked the domain-config.x of one domain and it
    shows:
    agent = {
    agentServer = "venwas1"
    logicalAddressMode = "ip"
    snmpPort = "1161"
    nwas1" is the hostname of the public interface, nor
    the administration interface.
    I changed the value for the hostname of the
    administration interface with no success; then
    changed for the ip address of the administration
    interface; and no success neither.If you just change the hostname or IP, but don't do anything else, it won't work as the Agent has already created security keys for that old entry and needs to be reseeded. Change the entry to the IP that's on the same network as your SunMC Server, then run this command on the Agent while it's turned off:
    /opt/SUNWsymon/sbin/es-run base-usm-seed.sh -s <SEED> -c agent
    ..replacing <SEED> with the same seed/password you used on your SunMC Server. Then start the Agent back up, wait for it a couple minutes, and try to make an icon for it again.
    The default platform agent works, but does not appers
    with the corrent icon on the SunMC console. Its
    appears like a folder icon, and the documentation
    said that the Platform Agents is represented with a
    specific Icon.If the icon is incorrect then your SunMC Server is missing some files (or you've found a bug). You'll want all these addons installed on your Server:
    Dynamic Reconfiguration for Sun Fire High-End and Midrange Systems
    Sun Fire Midrange Systems Platform Administration
    Sun Fire Midrange Systems Domain Administration
    If you think you may be missing some (look in /var/opt/SUNWsymon/install/install.[timestamp] to see how you answered questions during your last install) you can run /opt/SUNWsymon/sbin/es-inst again and point it to your distribution media and it will only ask about packages that may be missing. If you do end up adding in some of the Midrange addons then a simple Console restart should refresh your Platform icons.

    Welcome to this forum on Core J2EE Patterns by the Sun Java Center!
    CONTEXT:
    This forum is intended for discussing the patterns from the Sun Java Center J2EE Pattern Catalog and other topics discussed in our book, Core J2EE Patterns.
    We, the authors of the book, welcome you to this forum.
    WHO WE ARE:

    BACKGROUND:
    Over the last few years, we at SJC have worked with our customers in architecting, designing, and implementing solutions on the J2EE platform. We have worked on documenting the J2EE patterns for over two years and released the patterns for public review in Beta form via the Java Developer Connection in May, 2001.
    The beta version of the patterns is available online as The Sun Java Center J2EE Pattern Catalog at:
    http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/J2EE/patterns/
    Subsequent to the release, we received great feedback and comments from hundreds of reviewers. We then worked towards incorporating the feedback into the pattern documentation. One of the common comments was about the lack of code examples in the online documentation. The latest pattern documentation provides many code examples and incorporates all the feedback received so far.
    BOOK INFORMATION:
    Core J2EE Patterns, the book, was released at JavaOne 2001 during June 4-9, and will be available in stores around the end of June 2001.
    The book includes the complete updated Sun Java Center J2EE Pattern Catalog with 15 patterns covering these J2EE technologies: Java Server Pages (JSP), Servlets, Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB), and Java Message Service (JMS). In addition to the J2EE Pattern Catalog, the book also provides other chapters that discuss design considerations,
    bad practices, and J2EE Refactorings. Example code is included for all patterns and strategies.

    Rajakannan,
    There are numerous ways to implement a templating mechanism in support of the composite view pattern, included in the catalog as a presentation-tier pattern.
    The goal is to avoid simply having monolithic views with all the formatting code embedded directly withing the view. If we have common subviews that are shared across several or more views then we end up with a copy-and-paste type of reuse...undesirable. So, modularity is one issue. Another major force when considering the Composite View pattern is that we may want to manage the layout of our pages and the content of our pages separately. We may have some logical regions defined, such as a search panel and main body, and a subview that plugs into those logical regions that map to a physical page (ie: x.jsp and y.jsp). We may then want to vary one independent of the other...ie: we may want to modify the layout of the page w/o changing the content and we may want to vary the content w/o touching the layout.
    There are a number of implementation strategies that can be used to implement the Composite View pattern, ranging from relatively simple to much more sophisticated. We describe each in our book and include source code examples.
    The example in the book that allows for supporting all the issues described above is implemented using the "Custom Tag View Management Strategy" and uses a tag library written by David Geary, that supports the Composite View pattern. The library is also included in David's new book, Adv. JavaServer Pages, Prentice Hall, 2001.
    Again, it's simply one implementation and, as you mention, there are many different ways to implement this strategy.
    Thanks for your question,
    Dan

  • SNMP v2 compatible agent and system resources

    Hi everybody,
    I have to provide an SNMP v2 compatible agent (which provides answers to SNMP v2c requests) providing some system resources like cpu consumption, hard disk consumption and disk free space and some specific values through a private MIB.
    I have tried to implement a SNMP subagent using the Solaris Enterprise Agents SDK (taking the demo as reference), but contrary with was I thoght, it can not answer when the manager is asking using protocol version 2 (I am some confused, becouse I read that there is no many changes between version 1 and 2c and requests should be compatible).
    Additionally, I could not find the MIB where the Solaris sub-agent is providing the requested values (cpu consumption, hard disk consumption and disk free space).
    Is there any way to solve this problem? Using maybe the Solaris Enterprise Manager or the Solaris Manager Center? Are they provided with the Solaris version 9 OS?
    Thank you very much in advance.
    Best regards,
    Carlos

    I bought a tvee 30 last month and had the same problem.  I opened a ticket with BA and below is the fun thread on this subject.      If you scroll to the bottom, you get to read the fun part about sending the unit back in the future for a firmware upgrade....
    Customer via Web: 01/02/2012 04:10 PM I have a tvee 30 and I am not able to get it working with any Apple device in my house. I read about the problem with IOS5 and I am anxiously waiting for either BA or Apple to step up and fix this. Seems like a bunch of finger pointing going on right now. Anyway, I have the same problem with an Imac running 10.6.8 Would you expect the same IOS5 problem to affect the Imac?
    Response BA Customer Service & Suport via Email 01/05/2012 06:56 AM We are currently working on a firmware upgrade that will address Apple products being that the AD2P system that came with the iOS5 upgrade is the issue not letting the two units connect.
    Customer via Web 01/05/2012 07:56 AM Could you estimate when this firmware upgrade will be available? I am trying to decide if I should return the unit because Apple bluetooth connectivity was one of the primary reasons why I bought it. Tnanks
    Response BA Customer Service & Suport via Email 01/05/2012 08:27 AM I believe the firmware upgrade will be available within a month or so, and it will correct the issue you are having.
    Customer via Web 01/05/2012 09:06 AM how does one get informed about a firmware upgrade availability and how does one implement this on the tvee 30? I don't recall see any sort of USB or other port on the unit where one could install it. thanks
    Response BA Customer Service & Suport via Email 01/05/2012 09:49 AM The announcement will be posted on the FAQ's link of the site. The unit will need to be sent in to be upgraded.

  • Setting up ESS for Training and Event Mgmt

    Hello to all SAP HR experts,
    i am now doing a project on SAP ERP HCM and would like to learn more about the things and steps i need to do to come up with a ESS for Training and Event Management. I have an account for SAP Netweaver and able to access Enterprise Portal (EP). Do i require to navigate in EP to use the items there or do i need to set up an adobe interactive form using SAP Netweaver Developer Studio, design the flow at Visual Studio(VC), then link all the VC at Guided Procedure? If that's the case how am going to extract the data which i have configured in the IMG path under Training and event mgmt (TEM) and also SAP Learning Solution(LSO)?
    For an example: I have created Training Event Groups, Training Event Types and Courses. If i want to so a paperless ESS, how can i extract all this into the fields which i have designed in my adobe interactive form.
    Please help me and guide me along
    Thank you in advance:)
    Regards,
    Jenny

    Hi
    There are 2 end user possibilities for Learning
    One is PV7I and PV8I ITS services which are part of an old ESS role and can be used as integrated ITS versions
    any ESS role via HpF or called directly via URL (without a Portal) - this will allow users to book course and events and view/change bookings etc
    The other is Business Package for Learning 1.0 which requires a Portal (and other LSO dependancies to run)
    this provides a wider range of Learning based activities including booking etc
    Best wishes
