Solution - Date Time Windows 8 showing year 9999

Hi All
I just installed Windows 8 on a brand new 2012 mac mini i5 using the latest bootcamp 5.
After booting in to Window, I saw that the date was incorrect and set to the year 9999.
This prevented Windows Update from working, caused issues with SSL certificates not being valid, and resulted in errors when syncing the date/time from the various time servers available in Windows.
When I rebooted from Windows back in to Mountain Lion, the default auto time sync would result in the correct time being shown.
If I disabled the auto time sync in Mountain Lion, then booted in to Windows 8, corrected the time in Windows, then booted back to Mountain Lion, the date/time in Mountain Lion would be broken.
Anyway, it turns out the issue is due to a bad registry value in Windows 8.
Windows 8 had some crazy value for "ActiveTimeBias" under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation] that was essentially adding a 1000s of years etc on to the Date/Time displayed.
The solution for me was to reset all the *Bias values back to 0.
"StandardBias"=dword:00000000
"DaylightBias"=dword:00000000
"ActiveTimeBias"=dword:00000000
Once Windows rebooted, the time showed the correct year.  It was then just a matter of resetting the timezone location in Windows so that the StandardBias / DaylightBias values got configured correctly.  ActiveTimeBias stayed at 0.
Anyway, hope this helps someone.

Hello,
I am having the exact same problem with my iMac. The year keeps changing back to 9999. I'm not sure how you "reset all the bias back to 0" as per your post. Below is a screenshot of my registry fo time zone. If I double-click each of the items cited in your post, I acn only change a portion of them. For example, for ActiveTimeBias I can change the "12c" from my entry. Standard Bias is already  and DaylightBias has a long number that matches exactly what I have in the registry of my laptop.
Could you please provide further instruction on how to resolve this?
Thanks for your help!

  • Still no solution to times not showing on left side of iCal

I still have not gotten a solution to why the hourly times (eg 8 a.m.) do not show in the left column of iCal in both the daily and weekly views. Only Noon shows in the column under the year header.
If I print a calendar for one of those views, the times DO show on the printed page as expected.
The problem showed up on this machine after the 10.4.x upgrade, but dates show on another machine on the same home network running 10.4.
I have removed the iCal prefs as suggested in a previous post, but that had no effect. I have adjusted my prefs to the day range and hours to show at a time and there were no changes. My pref setting are the same as the other computer that shows times.
Is this a font conflict? The date on the iCal icon shows misaligned when it is open which I know was a font conflict.

  • Problem with Date / Time Title - Showing Inacurate Information

I use iMovie to make videos for my job. The videos need to have an accurate running time and date displayed on them. I use the "Date/Time" Title option and the running time and date appear on the video. BUT- there is a problem. The time is wrong.
When I import a video clip (from my Panasonic HDC-TM80) into iMovie, I can see the "time and date created" as well as the "length" of the video clip. The time and date created shows the time and date of when the clip ENDS. When I overlay the "Date/Time" Title, it starts the time (at the beginning of the clip) from the created time (which is actually the end).
    Example:
Clip Created (end of clip): 3/23/11 10:30:00am
Length of clip: 12 min. 35 sec.
The actual Date/Time Title should show 10:17:25am at the beginning and runs through 10:30:00am (the end).
But instead it shows 10:30:00am at the beginning and runs through 10:42:35am. This obviously results in a 12 min. 35 sec. inaccuracy.
Is this a problem with the software? Is there a way to contact someone to alert them of this problem? Or am I missing something simple?
Thanks in advance for anyone's help.
-as a quick fix, I adjusted the time and date on the video clips so that it would show the correct info, but I'm usually working with several clips at a time and it is laborious to change each one.

I don't have an answer but was wondering how you like the TM80? Except for the date/time issue, is it compatible with iMovie'11?
    Thanks!

  • Get date AND time to show in the menu bar

What is that technique to get date AND time to show in the menu bar please?

    Install iStat Menu
System Preferences -> iStat Menus -> Date & Time
    \[X] Show Date & Time
    Format .... \[Edit]
(*) Custom (drag tokens to build a custom format)
Drag a light blue token into the edit line below the token selections. If you want a space a colon a dash, etc... just type that character(s) before after draging a token into place.
    I created: 9:35 PM Sat 1-Aug-2009
You can create anything you like in any order you like.
The other alternative (if you happen to be a fan of the Unix strftime() function) would be to use the % formatting characters in the Expert time format expression box. Use the Terminal "man strftime" to find out all the available % formatting codes.
But I think the Custom Drag & Drop section is the easiest to use.
However, if this doesn't work for you, then I guess it is just a case of "Your Mileage May Vary".

  • Small QT videos takes long to load... oh and 1 min to open the Date & Time!

I just bought the new intel-based iMac (the 3rd choice on 4) and i can't believe how long it can take just to open a QuickTime video. _*The bigger is the file, the longer is the wait*_. I must warn you that I only tried to open .AVI and .WMV files. I installed the codecs in library/quickTime that i downloaded from apple downloads. Is it me or QT should appear instantly right when I double click on the video?
Another thing, it takes at least _*1 MINUTE just to open the DATE & TIME window*_. This is not normal at all. It takes 5 sec on the store's demo!!
I refund the 1st one because i thought maybe something was wrong with it and then the 2nd imac does the same thing. Anybody has that problem also?
Please help, i just switch from PC to mac. I dont want to be dissapointed by mac.

Well, there's a couple ways to handle this imo.
You can not let the door hit yah on the way out and go back to pc's (lol just adding some humor there)
But the best bet would be calling AppleCare and seeing if you can get someone to help troubleshoot. That would be the next step I would take. The resource is there and it beats waiting for someone with more troubleshooting skills than I to post something.
Could be a number of this but more than anything just a fluke since many others iMacs work without this issue or if they had it they aren't posting a fix.
Give AppleCare a call and have them run you though some steps like booting from dvd and performing hardware test, etc.
I hope you can find some resolution. I simply love this machine.

  • Comparing two dates+times [bash]

To compare two dates+times* in bash I have always used date +%s and compared the resulting strings.  Is there a better way to do it?  Thanks.
    * As in "is date+time Y after date+time X?"

Years ago I wrote a bash script to build a thumbnail gallery webpage for a local directory structure of torrents.  For each torrent, it created the thumbnail of an image with the same name, scraped torrents to get seeders/leechers, parsed a text file of urls and added links below the image with special favicons for commonly linked sites.
That was a hassle, and I have been afraid to look at the script since I stopped using it.  But the page it produced was pretty sweet.
Most of the scripts I write are a bit more down-to-earth than that though.

  • Date doesn't show is NOT resolved!!!!!

I cannot get the date to show on my Nokia 6555 cellphone. using the General Profile does not help. When I go to settings then date/time, it shows the correct date along with the time but when I save it and back out, the phone only displays the time. How do I get the date to show up?

As well as the setting to set the date and choose the display format, there is also a show/hide facility in the date and time settings in some S40 phones.
This still does not always display the date on the standby screen (for example, the 6070), so I don't know if all phones have this feature.

  • Windtunnel G4 Intermittent Date/Time/Power Up Issue

I have a free Windtunnel G4 from a friend.  laterly, she will not respond to the "Power On" button unless I unplug and replace the power plug to the AC.  Once I do that and the machine boots, she asks for a Date/Time reset (Shows this Date in 12/1969).  Then it works fine from here.  Is it pehaps time for a new 1/2 battery?  Sounds better than a Video Card or AC Adapter replacement.

  • IPhoto Bug - Every time try to change date, date moves back 100 years

You will like this bug. Somehow an incorrect date was entered on the videos in iPhoto. Now, we try to enter a correct date of 2/1/2011 using iPhoto->Photos->Adjust Date Time and the dates just keep going back approximately 100 years. Currently, the date shows June 3, 1221!
We can't set the date on our videos.
I just tried again, and now the date shows May 16th, 1153.
    Bummer, huh?

I friend of mine had the same problem and ask me for a solution. I conclude that when you ask to adjust date and time, iPhoto calculates the number of seconds that each picture has to be adjusted with. That number of seconds is stored in an 32bits signed integer variable, which means that the maximum numbers of seconds we can store is 2,147,483,647, which corresponds to 68 years, 35 days, 3 hours, 14 minutes and 7 seconds. If the adjustment you are trying to do is smaller than that, it will work, if it's bigger the result would be uncertain. There is an easy solution to that problem, but is Apple that has to implement it by changing the 32bits variable that stores those seconds to a 64 bits one.

  • Odd and even years with Time Windows?

    Hi All,
Does anybody know how to implement a time window for even years / ode years?
For example, a script A that needs to be executed every 1st January of even years and a script B that needs to be executed every 1st January of odd years.
At last, it possible to :
    - specify hard coded dates in TW for these scripts,
    - use particular pre conditions (which script from A or B has to be executed) with a common yearly TW
    but better solutions are welcome
    Thanks a lot.
    Regards,
    Yi Jiang

    Hi Yi,
If you need this for only one case, I'd go for the one-off setup of specific dates.
If you have multiple cases, a simple way to achieve your goal is the following set of time windows:
    - TW_EVEN_YEARS: from 1-1-2010 to 31-12-2010, 1-1-2012 to 31-12-2012, 1-1-2014 to 31-12-2014, ...
    - TW_ODD_YEARS:  from 1-1-2009 to 31-12-2009, 1-1-2011 to 31-12-2011, 1-1-2013 to 31-12-2013, ...
    and then
    - TW_DAY1_EVEN_YEARS: day 1 enabled during TW_EVEN_YEARS
    - TW_DAY1_ODD_YEARS: day 1 enabled during TW_ODD_YEARS
    - TW_LAST_FRIDAY_EVEN_YEARS: last friday enabled during TW_EVEN_YEARS
    - TW_LAST_FRIDAY_ODD_YEARS: last friday enabled during TW_ODD_YEARS
    etc.
This way, you do not need to specify the dates for each case, only once.
    Regards,
    Anton.

  • Date & Time won't show in Menu Bar

I just installed the latest automatic update for Leopard and now in the right hand side of the menu bar only shows the Default Folder X icon and the Spotlight icon (my bluetooth, infared, airport icons and date & time are missing).
I go to the Date & Time preferences and click the option to have it appear, but when I close that window or just switch to another tab on that same window, it resets it back to being unchecked.
I know, of course, to unlock these settings and tried locking them or leaving them unlocked in hopes it would actually "lock in" my choice of settings, but with no such luck.
If anyone knows how to get my other icons back where they belong I'd appreciate that as well.

I actually don't use "Default Folder" at all, it came with Leopard.
But this problem didn't come up until the latest updates.
There was a file permissions error in running activity Monitor, though.

No luck here, as well. Although the file I was supposed to delete in ByHost wasn't there, so maybe that has something to do with it.

  • Error in displaying date time value in Thai Windows OS browser.

    Hi,
I have a problem displaying date time in the browser which is installed with Thai Windows OS. The time portion (the subset of datetime) does seemed to show correctly. Initially i am suspecting the virtual machine problem but i tried on bith java and microsoft vm, the result seemed the same. I tried to look in the source of the page and the character is just the same as the incorrect character displayed in the browser. The html source is -->
    <tr class="TableData">
         <td width="76">14/01/04 12:17:06 H-@5H"</td>
the time is displaying incorrectly. I am not sure its due to any setting in the BEA weblogic server. FYI i am now using WLS6.1(SP2) version. Hope and appreaciate a prompt reply. Thanks a zillion in advance.
