SOLUTION: E71, N85, N79, 5800 + WiFi Thomson Speed...

For two weeks I had been trying everything (no mac filterings, all kinds of encryption, without encryption, specific channels etc etc) but nothing helped to connect my 5800 to my Speedtouch 585v6 router (firmware 7.4.3.2 - i suspect that olders might work fine).
I had connected to a dozen other networks without a hitch, only speedtouch ended up with no gateway reply.
Until I found this blog post: http://whyiseverytitletaken.blogspot.com/2008/11/nokia-n85-wifi-no-gateway-reply.html
So, if you have tried everything and nothing helps, you have to connect with telnet to the router and disable quos for the wifi, as in the above page. But it would be nice if Nokia and Thomson investigated this issue..

  • 5800 Wifi Bug??

Hi all, I think there's a bug in the 5800 wifi's connection. After I connected to an access point, it seems that I am unable to disconnect from it, even though the access point is already out of range (few kilometres away!!).
The Connectivity menu still showed "Connected" status. Selecting "Disconnect WLAN" from the Options menu does not have any effect whatsoever. If i tried to connect to another access point, the phone will give error message saying "WLAN connection already active. Close it and try again".
    (I think i have the latest firmware e.g. v11.0.008 dated 09/12/08).
So far the only solution is to reboot the phone. Anyone experiencing the same situation? Anyone knows how to hard-killed the wifi connection?
    Cheers

    Hi all,
I've got the same trouble too.
But I've got also a more critical issue, linked to this wifi bug : my phone shutdown when it's in "stand by" mode.
It is due to the continue wifi connection : when I'm at home, the 5800 automatically connect to my access point, even if I don't use the network.
If I don't use my phone, it goes in "stand by" mode the following minutes.
I tried to find the option to switch off the wifi connection (under Settings > connection > connectivity > WLAN, then option button > parameter, then switch-off network scan. So my phone continue to connect to my access point.
I tried also to change the WLAN settings, in option "use the access point", I switched from "automatic" to "ask confirmation", but the connection is still active automatically, even if I try to disconnect !
I had noticed the same problem with other WLAN that I have authorized access : I had entered the security key in the phone.
The problem seems disapear when I switch off my access point.
For info, my firmware is V 10.0.010 (custom. version is 10.0.010.220.02) - Type is RM-356. - no update possible because it's an operator pack phone...
I hope someone can gives some elements of answer.
    Thanks by advance

  • IPod and iPad Wifi download speed greatly diminished

My iPad4 and IPod Touch 5 download speed is 500KB/s and upload speed is 8Mb/s, whereas my laptop's download speed is 20MB/s.  Any suggestions on how to increase my iOs devices WiFi download speed? I have tried changing DNS to the several suggested on the forum to to avail. I am using Speedtest on all three devices. I am on Comcast using their Arris TG862 Gateway.

    Jason,
Thanks for the advise, however, no joy.
I followed your instructions to the letter as if I was setting it up for the first time.
My windows laptop, ipad and iPod all get great download and upload speeds when within 6-8 feet of router/modem.
Upon moving all three outside of that range, like 10 feet down the hall, my laptop continues to perform but apple devices slow down to as low as 500kbs down but still have 7Mbs uploading. Prior the start of this situation 3 weeks ago,
I could use my ipad to stream Netflix in the garage on the other side of the house with 3 walls and a metal fire door in between.
I may be paranoid, but it seems like since the law regarding "throttling" passed, my Apple products are affected. When I use SpeedTest on my ipad, the download speed starts out at 10Mb/s then slows down to a crawl. It is like it is saying "Oh, and iOs device, let's slow it down."
This as detailed as I can get.  Any further ideas?
I do have a Netgear high speed router that was replaced with the combination device provided by Comcast.
I have read about calling Comcast and requesting to be put into bridge mode. What do you think?
    Thanks,
    Mark

  • Why max WiFi download speeds are only 20-25 Mbps

I raised the issue of why my wifi speed on the Xoom is limited to 20-25 Mbps on the Motorola Forum and there is an informative thread on the topic.  If you are interested take a look.
    Max Wifi Xoom speed: https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/48702
    -Jim

No cordless phone (two iPhones and two iPads though).  It does have one or two walls on line of sight.  A few wireless door security zones.  And a large china cabinet that my wife sure wouldn't let me move.  Do any of these sound significant enough to drop the dowload from 30Gb to .1GB...while upload stays consistent.  I have had better signal strength through two walls 100 feet out from my house, havent tried recently though.  I am suddenly aware as my switch is acting up and i had to use wifi on my xbox.

  • Slow wifi download speeds on 3gs??

Is anyone else experiencing slow wifi download speeds?? I upgraded from a first gen iPhone to the 3gs & the first thing I noticed was downloading stuff from iTunes, app store, or YouTube, Takes forever!! Example... If I put both of my phones side by side, both connected to wifi, start downloading a 36 mb podcast at the same time, my first gen iPhone will finish the file in about 2 mins and my new 3gs will take anywhere from 8 to 10 mins. Is there a problem with the 3.0 firmware or is the problem just my phone?? Any help would be much appreciated!!

I'v been dealing all day on this issue, I upgraded to the 3GS model and my wife still has the 3g, I don't have the fastest network at my house (1.5 meg) but her phone is coming in about 1021kbps and mine is 241, which seem like a big difference, especially when trying to view youtube, apple store just gave me a new phone, and it still has the same problem. I reset it, restored it, replaced it, and after replacing it I did not restore from backup but still have the same issue. I do access internet via a time capsule for whatever thats worth, and I also checked with tech support about that being the problem and we found that to not be the problem. *****, I paid $300 and committed to AT&T for another 2 years, for internet at a quarter of the speed...

  • HT4061 Apple air has very low wifi download speed.

Thisis the third time I have tried to get a solution.  My wife purchased and IPAD air to replace Ipad. The speed of the wifi is un acceptable.   I have tried all the various fixes but none have improved performance.  When I compare side by side to my lap top computer Apple speed is 1/5 what I should get, in fact, the Download speed is less than the upload speed.  this test was  conducted along side the router as well as at other locations with no difference in speed.
I am currently working on 2.5 mhz band dsl with netopia router.
Is there a real solution to this?
    Stan

    Hello piperstan,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with the Wi-Fi speed on your wife's iPad Air.  I understand that you have tried some troubleshooting steps already.  I found a few steps that I recommend for this issue.
If you have not yet tried these steps, I recommend following the steps below:
Wi-Fi disconnects or signal strength is less than expected
Move closer to the Wi-Fi router (access point).
Check for sources of potential interference.
Remove any case, stand, or other accessories from your iOS device and see if signal strength improves.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    recently used Bluetooth accessories
    VPN and APN settings

  • Wifi Connection Speed

    Hi everyone,
I had a thread in the newbie corner about filesharing, however I have now come across an even worse issue.
It's to do with my wifi speed. I am using netcfg to set up a connection automatically, however I have done the setup manually and it made no difference. The problem is the speed is pretty bad. I plan on using the machine as I download and local fileserver, so wireless speeds of max 100kb/s vs. my Windows' machines 800kb/s is not quite good enough.
I use the ath9k driver for my TP-Link card, and I have tried disabling power-saving and forcing a higher bitrate, but neither of those solutions work.
    Can anyone assist?

I meant 100 kilobytes per second. I got that from getting packages from mirrors, donwloading some torrents, and downloading Big Buck Bunny to test my filesharing. It never got much above 100, whereas on Windows I get 800+.

  • Lenovo a7000 slow wifi downloading speed

i have lenovo a7000 which gives slow downloading speed in wifi with good wifi signal. please tell me anyone how to fix this issue.

    hi nestharus,
    Welcome to the Forums.
If you have the Atheros AR9485 Wireless Adapter, can you try this driver:
Drivers for Atheros AR9485 and Windows 8
    Version: 10.0.0.234
    OS: Windows 8 32/64bit
    File: win8-10.0.0.234-whql.zip
Alternativey, does the issue happens also if you boot into Safe Mode with Networking? (if you get a stable good download then it's possible that a security software is interferring with the wireless connection).
    Edit:
Using the Dink Wireless AC1200 Dual Band USB Adapter will definitely improve the performance (you may need to set it to 2.4Ghz if you only have a single band router)
    regards,

  • 5800 Wifi & Facebook Application.

Currently my phone company doesn't offer free internet on my mobile. So I've been using Wi-Fi on my mobile to avoid getting it, although when using the Facebook application it automatically connects via 02 postpay when I would rather it connect via Wi-Fi.
Is there any way to get it to do this?
    Thanks.

    andywilliams24
One simple and safe option (on my 5800):
Tools - Settings - Connectivity - Destinations - Options - Default Connection - Always ask
Or you could put your relevant access points into Tools - Settings - Connectivity - Destinations - Internet (if they aren't there already) and prioritise them (open the aforementioned "Internet" folder, select "Options" and then "Organise" ) so that your WiFi connection has a higher priority than O2 Postpay. Then set the Default Connection access point (as in first paragraph above) to "Internet". However, this method means that if a high priority access point (eg your WiFi connection) cannot be found, a connection with a lower priority (eg O2postpay) would be used, with possible unwanted charges accruing.
(There is also the option of setting only your Facebook application or device browser default access point to "Always ask" or (prioritised ) "Internet", but one of the first two choices above would answer your question without undue complication for other applications.)
    Hope this helps.

  • Yosemite Drops WiFi Download Speed 25%

I really had no problems with Yosemite on my late-2013 MBP Retina...until I did a Speedtest.net test of my Internet speed, in this case over a wi-fi connection to my router.
I routinely get 55-60 Mbit/sec download speeds, but with Yosemite I got only 40-45 Mbit/sec, roughly a 25% reduction. In case it was just a slowdown from my ISP, I checked using wired Ethernet, which showed my usual 55-60 Mbit/sec throughput. Toggling immediately back to wi-fi, the speed went back down to the 40-45 Mbit/range.
I saw others with wi-fi issues under Yosemite and tried the proposed solutions that some said fixed the wi-fi speed (and wi-fi drops) problems--turn off Bluetooth for one. Nothing helped. So I restored the Time Machine backup of my Mavericks installation and...everything wifi-related is back to normal. Same network speeds as before Yosemite.
Lesson learned--always do a full backup before a major OS upgrade just in case.

Please check below video, I have 46080 / 3072 kbps for download /upload... Tried all possible settings combinations without success. Stamina mode never used..

When near router 2-3 m without any obstacles download speed is ok.
Any other my phone (Samsunf S3 for ex.) have no such issue in same location...
Please advise what can cause such issue or it is my Sony hardware specific issue ? How can I solve it ?
This issue is not router specific, because same behavior at home and at work.
just in case following settings I have at home: router in mixed mode, 20/40MHz auto, WMM enabled
Download this and take a look which channel of your router had the best signal and make changes on your router to the best channel within 1-11. Try your speed test again to see if this helps.

WiFi signals get stronger the closer the machine is to the router and the less interference/blocking of the signal like via walls with metal in them or of thick concrete.
Since the signal emanates outwards in a sphere, your supposed to place the wireless router in a central location in the building so it covers all areas.
The power of the router also has a affect, if your router is old or something not that powerful like a Airport Express, it doesn't have the ability to filter out other signals or enough punch to get through walls etc. or cover a large area as effectively.
If you buy/have a powerful router of newer make and have issues where there is metal in the walls or thick concrete, then you can buy something like OpenMesh and by using Ethernet cables from the back of the router, extend the WiFi signal into other rooms and areas past the blockage.

  • 5800 wifi problem

    Hi everybody,
I have updated my 5800 and its now v50.. But when I try to use wifi, I cant use it.. If I click connect, it doesnt do anything and I have to go back to settings again.. It looks as if it freezes.. Any idea ?   Thanks....

    Hello,
First post for me but I do know my "routers" etc...
I have a problem with the wifi connection too and came across this thread whilst looking for a fix... My problem isn't for this thread but I can confirm that unless the upstairs phone socket is connected to a seperate phone line (so has a seperate number) then you can only use one of your routers at any one time...
You can definatley re-configure your TalkTalk router to work in place of your HomeHub though by going through each of the configuration pages on your hub and taking screenshots of each... You can then transfer these settings across to the TalkTalk router (they all use the same names but they may be laid out differently)... I've used several different routers on my BTinternet line... Also, most ISP routers come with telephone ports too so you can still make use of the free internet phone service too if you want... (Not that I should possibly be saying that on a mobile phone discussion!) :-)

  • Samsung TV wifi connection speed to HH3

Having issues connecting to my NAS media content from my TV via the HHS - when i check in the HH home network connected divices it shows my TV as connected via wifi at 1mbps... all my other devices are hitting in excess of 60mbs to the hub. However when i open a browser on the TV itself and check on speedtest.net i get around 9mbps (although I get 30+mbps on ipad right next to TV)... Is there any settings in the HH itself to allocate bandwidth or improve the connection to the TV or is it more likely to be an issue at the TV's side? Not sure if it is just the HH and Samsung don;t like each other? The frustrating thing is it plays VoD/iplayer HD with no lag at all (I'm on infinity2) so I can;t see it being a bandwidth issue
Anyone elese had issues with samsung TVs and the HH?

  • 5800 Wifi Problems

I know this has been mentioned a few times - but reading them does not help me:
I have a wifi network set up at home on a Netgear Router.  I have a few things connected to it via wifi and not had any problems.
My network is set up with a hidden SSID, mac address filtering and defined IP addresses for all the mac addresses so when each device is attached it always gets the same IP address.
I have entered the mac address of my 5800 no problems there:  However,  when I try and connect the 5800 to the internet through my wifi I get nothing.
I have tried using the wireless wizard which says the connection is made, my password is correct - but I just cannot connect to the internet through my wifi?
Any suggestions?  My phone has the latest firmware - just cannot get a wifi connection at home

If the MAC Address is showing in the list of connected devices, then I suspect that it is not a problem with the MAC filtering.
With regards to DHCP, this is the system that allocates an IP address (and other information) to devices connecting to your network. Check on your wireless router settings, there should be something that says DHCP is enabled or not. If DHCP is not enabled, then your device will not be able to acess anything on the network without manually entering the IP information.
If DHCP is not enabled, try to enable it and see what happens then.
