Solution for a 1-button Apple Mouse in Windows 7 for Right Clicking

I downloaded a tiny windows app called Applemouse
http://rhdesigns.browseto.org/applemouse.html
Put it in my startup folder in Windows 7 64-bit and when Windows boots up just close the window that appears.  From then on just CONTROL-CLICK will enable a Right Click.  Works beautiful with my Apple 1-button mouse and Apple Pro Keyboard.

You're welcome. My discovery was quite accidental, but that's often how things happen ... if you're paying attention and are looking for clues.
Sorry you had to trial and error before you succeeded, but as you've probably found, it is necessary to rename the bluetooth devices first, then delete them from OS X.
I don't understand why this trick was necessary, or even what caused it to happen. I've got 6 Win 7 installations via Boot Camp on 6 Intel Macs (2 white MacBooks, 1 Unibody MacBook, a Core Duo Mac Mini, a 27" iMac and the 20" 2.4 Mid-2007 iMac). All were running 10.6.2 and Win 7 (aren't Family Packs wonderful?) via Boot Camp 3.0 more or less without problems, except as noted in my first post.
Only the 20" iMac had problems after the Boot Camp 3.1. Not only did I have a devil of a time pairing the keyboard and mouse, but I also lost the Win 7 activation on the iMac 20" and the OS X partition started showing up as "EFI Boot". All happened right after I updated Boot Camp 3.0 to 3.1 via download from Apple while running Win 7.
I've heard reports of other Mac users discovering Boot Camp had done a FUBAR job on their machines, but this is my first experience. My guess is that there's some dialogue going on between 10.6, Win 7 and Boot Camp that shouldn't be happening. What I really don't understand is why my other 5 Macs didn't have any problems at all with the Boot Camp upgrade to 3.1. Let's hope the Apple Boot Camp team can reverse engineer my discovery and improve the next version of BC.

The delete key does a backward delete because it is the natural way to delete while typing. May not be to you and the millions of youngsters who grew up with windows computers. When you are typing and want to delete that which you just typed you are already at the end and you delete back to where you want to re-type. When you go back to a document and want to delete a selection, you have to go to the end of the selection instead of the beginning. it's just the way its always been done on macs. it takes some getting use to.
If you select text to be deleted with your mouse then the delete key deletes the selected text. same for either delete key method.
It is not convenient when you tab to fields in a form. That why fn-delete does a forward delete.
Macs have a couple of keyboards. The small "wireless keyboard" only has the (backward) delete (fn-delete forward). The larger "Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad" has both a Delete (backwards) key beside the = abd it has the "delete >" key in the groups with fn, home, end, Pg up and Pg dn. This keyboard is best for users who have switched from windows or are familiar with the windows forward delete.

  • Please create "on-the-fly change search engine" option ALSO for when we mark [word] in a text, then right-click, then choose "Search [engine x] for [word]"?

In Firefox 34, you have changed the search bar.
The new style is perfect for those who always starts by typing in, letter for letter, the search term.
People such as myself, we almost never type in the search term,
but instead we mark a [word] in a text, right-click this marked [word], then select "Search [engine x] for [word]".
Speaking for myself, I have now a total of 36 search engine providers, but I usually only use 7 of those.
I use "Wikipedia (English)" most of the time..
    - but then I will switch to e.g. "AniDB" and use that one for 1 hour..
    - or switch to "Google" and use that one for 30 minutes..
    - or switch to "Wikipedia (Norwegian)" and use that one for 2 hours..
    - or switch to "Wiktionary (English)" and use that one for 15 minutes..
..and then I will switch back to "Wikipedia (English)" again.
The way the search bar was in Firefox 33 and earlier, I could very easily switch the default search engine.
Just one click to open the drop-down menu, then choose one.
In Firefox 34, I have to choose "Tools" -> "Options", the "Search" tab..
    - before I can THEN click to open the drop-down menu.
4 clicks instead of 1, that's like 400% more work..!
Also, the fact that I have to go into "Options".. make this..
..I don't know how to put it, it's a kind of psychological barrier that I have to overcome each time.
I mean, before Firefox 34, I went to the "Options" window like maybe 4 times each YEAR,
now, I have to go there 4 times each DAY..!
I am not saying you should revert to the old style Search bar,
as I feel that those you are typing search terms are indeed very happy for this new style..
Instead, I think of 2 possible ways to create happiness also for us that do mark text and choose "Search.."
    1) An "on-the-fly change search engine" option ALSO for when we mark [word] in a text, then right-click, then choose "Search [engine x] for [word]".
This could work as a cascading menu option, where it says..
Search for [word] in -> [engine x]
..and where [engine x] was the current default engine, and all the other engines was listed underneath,
just like the drop-down menu when you switch the default engine.
Additionally, you could have an on / off checkbox in the "Options" "Search" tab, where you had this option:
"Change default search engine when choosing another from the drop-down menu"
THIS would actually be PERFECT.. It would be even much BETTER than in Firefox 33 and earlier..! :-)
    2) If there are things with the first option that don't work (something I've missed etc),
then maybe you could have an on / off checkbox in the "Options" "Search" tab, where you had this option:
    "Use old-style search bar"
This would be off by default, but when switched on, it would give us the old Firefox 33 style Search bar.

Strongly recommend Context Search extension which will solve your problem

  • HT201403 It would be very helpful for Apple to re-instate the view as icon option for a pdf file in an email on the right click menu? As far as I can see no easy way for a basic user to get this back?

Would be great for Apple to reinstate the pdf as icon in mail - but using the right click menu. It seems to have gone - and as a basic user there seems to be no simple solution - I used the rich/plain text swap but it didn't work...
Apple - we need you to solve!

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
It's highly doubtful that Apple will change this in Mac OS X 10.7 since that OS version has now been discontinued for quite some time. Whether they will change that in OS X 10.9 or a future version I can't say.
If this is a serious issue for you, you can look into Attachement Tamer:
    http://lokiware.info/Attachment-Tamer
It's not free, but it addresses much more than the issue of PDFs appearing as images, not icons, so it might be worth the price.

  • Trick for Pairing Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse With Windows 7 in BC 3.1

    My Mac:
    Mid-2007 iMac 20", 2.4 GHz; OS X 10.6.2; Windows 7 Home; Boot Camp 3.1
    My Problem:
No matter what I tried, including all kinds of tips and tricks found in this forum and elsewhere on the web, I could not get my Apple aluminum bluetooth keyboard and bluetooth Mighty Mouse to pair in Windows 7. Windows 7's bluetooth setup panel would see them, from time to time, but never connected.
The same pair connected quite easily with Snow Leopard, and the keyboard connected before I installed BC 3.1 in Win 7 (never did get the MM to connect in Win 7 with BC 3.0). But with BC 3.1 in Win 7, it was no dice for either one until I made an accidental discovery.
While prepping another Apple bluetooth aluminum keyboard for my wife's Mac Mini, it was seen by my iMac's Win 7, which wanted to pair with it.
Aha! A Big Clue! The Win 7 BC 3.1 generic bluetooth drivers wanted to pair with an aluminum keyboard that wasn't already paired with the iMac. So, I booted back into Snow Leopard, connected a USB mouse and keyboard, renamed the bluetooth mouse and keyboard, and then deleted them. I rebooted back into Win 7, then easily set up both renamed mouse and keyboard which paired quickly with Windows.
Note that I first tried deleting them from the Snow Leopard side first, but Win 7 still wouldn't pair with them. That's when I went back to Snow Leopard and renamed them but didn't pair them with the iMac until it was booted into Win 7.
Finally, I rebooted back into Snow Leopard and paired the keyboard and mouse with OS X. Done.
Hope this trick/tip/hint helps someone else with keyboard and mouse bluetooth pairing problems.

  • Magic Mouse fix-it-yourself ~ right click/left click Design solution.

    May 5, 2011
I initially admit that I am a genuine, bonafide Magic Mouse un-coordinated user or retard.  I’m habitually right-clicking with my Magic Mouse on matters that I meant to be left-clicking on; and had even thought, (w/o looking) that I was left-clicking accurately on.  Until the pesky, tell-tale, rectangular dialog box appears on my Mac mini, flat-screen desktop ... Informing me immediately that I just screwed up again and right-clicked where I thought that I was left-clicking.  It’s obviously a Magic Mouse disorientation issue, and it’s up to me or my action to resolve it.  And that is what I end up always scolding myself with, because I hadn’t first felt for the mouse’s side edge to secure an accurate click.  Well this ‘my bad’ self-denigration flogging is over!  ‘It’s not just mine alone spaz condition to blame!’ is my claim.  There is an obvious void, error or design flaw of the hollowed Magic Mouse ~ that I beg to share in responsibility, along with my personal malfunctions.  Doy!  The humpbacked, Apple Magic Mouse simply doesn’t even have a right-click/left-click divider or embossed spine on it at all, which is the obvious, inherent problem.  Such as PC mice have always had, haven’t they?  So I’ve do-it-yourself, (or done-it-myself) solved it by merely cutting a precise three-sixteenth inch, slightly-tapered sliver of black (my preference entirely) duct tape approximately 2” long and have successfully adhered it into it’s pre-determined, center position, (like cleavage), to achieve a resounding, accoladed victory!
My summation is that the spineless Apple Magic Mouse is not for everyone.  But can be easily and inexpensively remedied to be so!
    Thank you,
    http://LSDexitOzAmerica.org

    Hi Eric,
Thanks for trying to help, but this isn't a configuration problem, nor I want a workaround.
Actually, I just solved it. I swapped the Apple Rechargeable Batteries for regular ones and it is now working as it should. Probably it's a bad charge problem with the batteries.
    Cheers!

  • I'm on Windows XP, Firefox 3.6.25 and Microsoft Word v.7 for Windows 95. Is my old Word version preventing hyperlinking? I've found NO way to do it -- no toolbar link buttons, no hyperlink options when I right-click, or anything. Help?

    Windows XP
    Firefox 3.6.25
Microsoft Word v.7 for Windows 95

I had a similar problem trying to install Win7 x64 on my 2009 iMac. I finally copied the entire Boot Camp driver folder from the OS X installation DVD to Windows. Then I went to \drivers\bootcamp64.msi, right-clicked on it and selected Troubleshoot Compatibility. Windows chugged a bit and came up with a dialog that said Try Recommended Settings. Click on that, then Start Program. The Boot Camp installer now worked great.
    Give it a shot.

  • Trackpad/Mouse issues, no Scroll/right click

I have just got a new MBP, my second one, and after having to return to APPLE to get it formatted back to OSX, as LION was not working with a number of software I have, (more over the other way around)
I restored my book's apps and doc's from Time Machine, (To be honest I don't know if the problem was before this or not) and when I tried to start to put life back together I noticed my Trackpad, some call it a mouse. The one ON the laptop no longer did anything more than let me move the mouse and I can only click. No Control Click, No Scrolling, nothing it is VERY Frustrating, and I am not sure what to do.
All the fancy mouse actions of LION are great, but I only need Scroll, Mouse Move, Right Click & Left Click.
How can I get these all back online?
Sys Pref did nothing, first off, it only sees MOUSE< and TRACK PAD NOT FOUND, so with mouse all I can change is the SPEED of the pointer and my click rate for double click.
The Accuracy of the mouse is also not what it was, I have to be DEAD CENTRE of any ICON to get the results I need.
This is a real pain, I can tell you that I am beginning to think I should have gone another route when I was picking a new Laptop. After a 10 year relationship with Apple, perhaps it is time to give Bill a call.

I just did the latest update for OSX from Apple, and after the reboot, (Not the first reboot int he process so reboot is not the answer)
After the reboot, everything seems to be back to normal.
SO thanks, And I hope that if anyone else suffers they can get the same results I did.

  • Connected Apple devices - can no longer right click to show info

I have iTunes 12.0.1.26 installed, but now find that you are no longer able to right click on any connected Apple device and look at the details of that device, such as space used, software version, or look at the device settings for syncing Calendars and Emails etc. Why have these options been removed? If I right-click on my iPhone, the only options I get are Play, Shuffle, Eject, Reset Warnings. You actually cannot click on the device itself to reveal this information, all you get is the expansion arrow to the left and the sub-menus underneath, such as Music, Films etc.
Not all of my devices are on the latest software version, particularly my iPhone, as I cannot fit it on!

View > Show Sidebar or Ctrl+S. Your device should be on the left like iTunes 10. Do the results change?

  • In the main bookmarks menu I'm not able to move the links up and down for convenience like I used to. When I right click on a bookmark to do so, nthng comes up

Recently I've lost the ability to use the options available with a right click on a bookmark in the main menu bookmarks. I can't move them around up or down, can't delete any either. The weird thing is in assorted bookmarks I'm having no problems at all.
Do you have any advice to help me, I want to thank you in advance for any help you might be able to give me with this problem. I have installed the latest update sent to me to no avail.
    Mark Nicholson (seefids)

After the release of Firefox 29, several people noticed that after using the Customize feature, most items on the right-click menu for the Bookmarks menu on the menu bar became ''grayed out'' and unusable until you closed and started Firefox back up again. That seems to still be a problem for me in Firefox 36.0.4, so if you used Customize, that could be the explanation.
You still should be able to click and drag bookmarks around the menu even with the broken right-click context menu.
And if it's easier than restarting, the context menu still works in the Bookmarks Sidebar (Ctrl+b to open/close) and Library dialog (Ctrl+Shift+b or "Show All Bookmarks").

  • My wired mouse no longer will right click.

My wired mouse will no longer respond to a right click. Settings in System Preferences have not changed.
Any Idea what might be the problem? Am running 10.6.8
    Thank you

It's possible but not normal it could have failed. How old is it? Can you take it to a friend's computer to confirm?. If it works there, it's something on your iMac most likely software related. You can also check their mouse on your iMac.

  • Magic mouse gets stuck on right click mode even though I've de-selected right click

Sometimes every time I try and click on links, the menu bar pops up, as if I've pressed right click. Usually have to restart system.

Update: I've also tried repairing permissions and that doesn't help.
I've experimented with other mouses just to see if there'd be a difference, but the problem is definitely with the computer. All plug-in or wireless mouses have the same results. Right click still won't work.

  • My wired Apple mouse stopped working for a short time. Trying to figure out why.

System OSX Version 10.9.5  Processor 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7    I was surfing the web & my mouse was stuck on the screen. Could this be some kind of virus- spyware or malware? Never had this happen before. The keyboard the mouse is connected 2  kept working but the mouse stoped working momentarily. I pushed F3 & unplugged my mouse & plugged it back in. this fixed it but I am not sure that had anything to do with what caused my mouse to stop working.

Could be the USB port within the keyboard may have a problem in sustaining
a good connection. Sometimes those extra ports in keyboard fail. You can
see in the hardware portion of the activity monitor software in OS X what is
visible to the system as part of the chained USB items attached to the Mac.
To have a known-good spare mouse, keyboard, and any cable extensions,
is always a fair idea for the sake of troubleshooting and to get past a failure.
I use powered USB hubs with my Macs; but plug the keyboard directly into
the computer so as to have few issues with cold startup keyboard shortcuts.
The mouse does OK plugged into the hub, and a hub positioned so it can
be accessed easier than ports on the back of the computer makes sense.
If there is another hardware issue, or odd software extensions or add-ons
in your main user account, you'd have to test for those possibilities. To
try a second account to see if the same kinds of applications make it fail,
or run the Apple Hardware Test in the main user account, may not take
into the result any software that you'd use when normally at the Mac.
    Sometimes the wire to the mouse can get weak and fail near the mouse;
so when that happens, it's best to have a spare on hand, ahead of trouble.
On the other hand, software conflicts could cause a frozen mouse or any
    kind of odd pointer activity.
    Good luck & happy computing!
