Solution for archive

Dear sir
I have Accounting Doc no
i want 2 take a accounting value
but the accounting value is present in Archieve Files
if i use the Archieve object (Fi_document ) , it takes all the data
but i dont want 2 take all the data , if any functional module is available for taking a data for the particular account no with object ,
so that time vill be reduced
otherwise it takes all the files .
already I hav used  this function module
ARCHIVE_OPEN_FOR_READ
ARCHIVE_GET_NEXT_OBJECT
ARCHIVE_GET_NEXT_RECORD
without this function module any function module available  or how to pass account doc no to archive and
get the accounting value.

Definitely not!
Bridge is a wonderful app for sorting, renaming adding metadata etc but it has very big problems with caching and also is known for working very slow with a great ammount of files.
You should look at Microsoft Expression Media (used to be iViewMediaPro) or Cumulus or Extensis portfolio.
Those are typically asset management (although not free like Bridge that comes as an extra with CS) applications.

  • Best Solution for Archiving Table data

    Hi All,
I have a table with huge data. It is not partitioned table.
On an average per day 10000 records will be inserted into this table. Now I want to archive(backup)
every one years data manually and keep in safe location and hence delete those archived rows
from the table. Whenever required it should be easily imported back to this table. All this happens through
    Application.
One appraoch in my mind right now, is transferring the data from table to flat file with comma separted,
and whenever required again importing back to the table from Flat file using external tables concept.
Can any body suggest what is best solution for this.
    Thanks

The best solution would be partitioning.
Any other solution requires DML - running DELETE and INSERT transactions to remove a data set and to add a data set (if need be) again.
With partitioning this is achieved (in sub-seconds) using DDL by exchanging a partition's contents with that of a table. Which means that after the archived data has been loaded (SQL*Loaded, Import, etc) into a table (and indexes created), that table (with indexes) is "swapped" into the partition table as a partition.

  • Tool availability for Archival Solution similar to ILM Assistant?

Can you suggest some other tool or facility which will give ILM Assistant like features?
We want to archive data on date basis. ILM Assistant does not provide archiving solution. Is there any other tool available for the same?
    Regards,
    Archana.

Oracle has two solutions for archiving.
One is DBFS HSM. Oracle SecureFiles provide fast and file storage on an Oracle database. DBFS provides a file system interface to SecureFiles data. DBFS HSM store allows archiving and transparent recall of SecureFiles data to tape. See http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/secure-files/dbfs-sf-oow2009-v2-160969.pdf for more info. SecureFiles can be coupled with Oracle's Enterprise Content Management suite so that the content can be automatically stored, and recalled when necessary, on tape.
The other is Storage Archive Manager. SAM presents a file interface and any files written to and stored on SAM can be managed in a multi tiered storage environment which also provides multi-tier transparent archiving. See http://www.oracle.com/us/products/servers-storage/storage/storage-software/031715.htm for more info. SAM can be coupled with Oracle's Enterprise Content Management suite so that the content can be automatically stored, and recalled when necessary, on SAM.

  • Best solution for media storage

    Hi Everyone,
I am looking for suggestions/how-to on the best setup for media storage. We have two editors (and two computers - Mac Pro PowerPC and iMac Intel). We are currently using an internal 500 GB slot on the Mac Pro along with 1 additional external 1.5 TB drive. Then, on our iMac we use a 1.5 TB external drive. We use, for external drives, LaCie.
Here's our problem. We are running out of space. So, what is the best solution for media storage? Should we get a small rack for our external drives from LaCie and daisy chain them? Or, should we get a server? The only problem I have with a server is connection speed...we, most of the time, have a slow connection at our college.
p.s. here is a link to LaCie's website listing a rack...and we have the d2 drives. So, do you daisy chain them or plug each one in individually?
    http://www.lacie.com/us/products/product.htm?pid=10172
    Any ideas/thoughts/suggestions are greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Everyone!
Thank you all for your suggestions. I agree...Drobo looks great, but I am finding more and more bad news when it comes to editing. It looks like a great solution for archiving. I received another solution with great reviews from one of my colleagues contacts. They work for a big company.
Hope this helps...something else to add to the mix.
*Our edit suite storage solution is a Facilis Terrablock 24EX unit. (http://www.facilis2.com/24ex.html) It has 18TB of space and is connected on 4GB Fibre channel to both suites. On top of that we have an Apple X-Serve running Final Cut Server that sorts and catalogs all the video we put in so network users (Mac and PC) can search and look at media from their workstations. We just put this in a few months ago. Before that we had a Rorke Data Galaxy HDX with 6TB of space on a 2GB Fibre Channel connection. ( http://www.rorke.com/av/galaxy-hdx.cfm ) It’s now a backup storage unit. Both systems have excellent performance though, we upgraded mostly for space and the server software.*
Again, thank you all for your help. I will research all suggestions.

  • Has anyone heard of a solution to archive IM to a central store for comliance and E-Discovery?

I am looking for a solution for non-jailbroken Apple devices.

It is very strange. I've had folks look at me with the 'rolling eyeballs' when I said I never, ever put my phone in my pocket. I never put anything in my pocket(s), especially rear pockets. My overcoat has pockets on the inside which I do use when I don't need my purse. But, after having $600 stolen out of pocket once on a subway, and another time $180 while in an elevator, I just don't put anything other than a chapstick (doesn't leak) in my pockets. I keep my phone with my wallet in my purse. I never even had a cell til' I was nearly 40~so, I'm not 'addicted' to it, lol.
I'd consider a refurb, I actually like the iPhone4 & 4S better than the iPhone5. I just don't want another contract, but, at least I have options. Thank you for all your help, and helping me chuckle about it! Perhaps I've subconsciously living out my own rebellion through my phone; yet again, it probably is smarter than I and is having a great time at my expense.
I'll post back with the update & what Apple did/didn't do for me...oh the bliss~

  • Convert Multiple Outlook Emails to Multiple PDF Files (Not Portfolio or Single PDF) for Archiving?

Hi all, I am learning how to convert emails to PDF files and there is some great functionality there!!  I have not discovered how to convert multiple outlook emails into multiple PDF files (one PDF file for each email) - all at the same time (not one at a time)!!  Is there a way to do this using Acrobat X??  The purpose of this is for long-term business archiving.  When I search for an email in the archive, I do not want to pull up a portfolio containing 1000 emails or a 1000 page PDF file with multiple emails run together!!!  I want to pull up individual emails containing my search terms.  I have been searching for a way to archive emails and MS OUTLOOK .PST files are NOT the answer.  I get a lot of business emails with large attachments and I do not file my emails in separate sub-folders (by client or job).  I want to convert multiple emails (by date range) from my UNIVERSAL INBOX into multiple PDF files for long term storage (with each email being converted into its own, separate PDF file and named with the same name as the "Re: line" of the email).  This has been a HUGE problem for me....and Acrobat is sooooo close to the solution for me.  Can anyone help??  If so, will attachments be converted?  If not, is there a separate software program or add-in that I can buy that will do this??  I use MS Office 2010, Adobe Acrobat X Pro, Windows 7 64 BIT.  Thanks for your help!!

I am a retired person and did'nt realize I already have a Adobe account, so you can scrap the entire information. Thanks for the trial anyway and have a great week.

  • Anyone aware of a tape drive solution for the iMac?

I have transitioned to an all digital video workflow and use an Intel based iMac as my editing system.  Since I no longer use the mini-dv tapes, I need to find a reliable storage solution to archive my original footage.  I believe LTO tapes to be my best bet.  I'm having trouble finding an external tape drive to work with my iMac because I don't have a SCSI interface on my iMac or can't locate a tape drive with a Firewire or Thunderbolt interface.  Any suggestions?

In the past I used Roxio Easy VHS to DVD for Mac - VHS to DVD Conversion Mac Software, but that was back in Leopard/Snow Leopard and I don't see support for Lion.
Another thing that also worked well for getting those old mini vhs tapes into the iMac. Was to connect either the tape camcorder or the video tape in a mini tape adapter up to a standard DVD recorder and burn a DVD that could be imported into iMovie or your video software.

  • Using a single Content server for DMS and also for Archive link documents

    Hi,
We have Planned for a single content server for managing the documents in DMS, parallelly as DMS Standard SAP objects are not available for all SAP transactions, i have proposed for making use of SAP Archivelink funtionality to maintain the documentations where Std SAP DMS does not provide a Solution.
    so here the question is
can a single content server be used as a content repository for Both DMS and archivelink,
can any one having done this pls state if it is possible to create different or Many Content repositories for DMS, Archive link in the same server,
is this a virtual creation or can we assign each repository a specific storage space which it should not exceed.
    Thanks and regards
    Sathish

    Hi sathish,
-- Through the ArchiveLink docuemnt Management interface, an SAP sytem can use various content servers as storage media. similarly, one contnent server can be used by multiple SAP systems.
-- A Content server always has a single database assigned to it. A database can therefore be used by only one content server.
-- A databse is split into as many repositories as necessary. The design of the repository is mapped in the SAP system.A repository contains documents.
Depending on your requirements,(if u have limited documents or with low requirements)  you can use the same content server for both DMS and Archivelink.
The number of documents stored on the content server is limited only by the size of the database.
Its better to have an external content server for archiving purpose, if your database size is increasing. Since the archiving systems storage is not dependent on the database.

  • Rebate agreements: Turnover for archived invoices cannot be displayed

We have implemented a check routine in archiving which prevents rebate relevant invoices from being archived before the rebate agreement is settled.
As soon as the rebate agreement is settled invoices may be archived. That means that the turnover display (verfication level ,All documents') of a settled rebate agreement does not necessarily show all invoices (if some of them are already archived).
As a possible solution for that problem an enhancement can be implemented (as fas as i have investigated the coding) where you can read additional data from archived invoices and add them to to the verification list.
Does anyone has had experience with that problem respectively implemented a solution for that ?
Thanks a lot for your help,
    Michael

    Hello Michael
We faced a lot of issue with rebates because of the archiving frequency of invoices. If you check the verifiction level
it should still diplay the invoices.
Why do they want to view the sales volume for the settled rebate agreement?
After exploring all the alternatives we decided to reduce the validity periods within the archiving period of invoices (for example
we had 3 years validity period whereas the archiving program archives invoices past 2 years). This resolved
a lot of issues for us especially the entries in VBOX were reduced which had sometimes resulted in tbale overflows.
I do not know if this will solve your problem but any how wanted to share our experience.
    Thanks

Our help desk has received calls from customers who try to install the app and get a compatibility problem. According to the tech specs, AIR 3.0 is not compatible with Mac OS versions lower than 10.6.
What's the recommended solution for such cases, excluding an OS upgrade? If I send a customer a link to an archived AIR version, will it try to auto-update to 3.0 once the app runs?

  • Importing AVCHD files to Macbook Pro / FCPX for archiving

I recently bought the Sony HDR-cx570e videocamera and was quite upset when I found out how difficult the relation between the camera and my macbook pro was. (mid 2010 - running ML).
When the sd card reaches maximum capacity, I usually (with other cameras) just plug the camera or the card itself into my computer and "dump" the video or picture files in a selected folder for archiving.
I realized that this was not as easy with my new Sony camera. First of all, it stores all video files in one large "Private" file - which i know you can open up to find several MTS files, but I was hoping for separate mov files. Although this is obviously not the case with AVCHD cameras.
So, if I "dump" the whole Private file over to my macbook, I am able to open the whole file in quicktime  which then allows me to select which clip to view.t However, this results in a pretty messy archive system. With several "PRIVATE" files stored in one folder - not being able to catalogue the actual video files in any way. If i extract the MTS files from the folder, then suddenly quicktime cannot play them at all.
What is even more frustrating is how it works with Final Cut Pro X (FCPX).  I am able to open the "import from camera" function in FCPX, and import them as mov files (though losing my 5.1 sound to stereo). This works, in a way. I am able to get mov files from the material. But it is not a very archive friendly solution. (since i would wither have to move the material from the "original media" folders, or create an archive system within FCPX itself.)
Furthermore, FCPX is NOT able to import the "Private" folder itself. It needs to have the physical camera or SD card connected. In other words, I am not able to use any of my video files in FCPX if i have previously just copied the private folder from the card and on to the hard drive. Which puzzles me….
IN SHORT: I want to be able to just do a quick copy/backup of my video files that can be placed in a folder archive (like "vacations", "holidays", etc.) and at the same time be used with FCPX for future editing of the material. As I see it now.. this just won’t work.
So… any thoughts, ideas or help on this issue??

MacOS 10.8x shows the complex AVCHD structure, which includes the mts, as a single 'file'.
Which is a pkg - ctrl-click/'Show package content' and then dig deeper thru 3 other pkgs ....
To backup your recordings, just drag the whole card into any choosen location/folder on any of your harddrives - that simple.
For Archving in terms of data-base (what, where, when, who), select 'Import from Camera' and select any of your backups/'archives'.
In the following Preview, select the clips you like to file (all, few, one)
now, look at FCPX as any data-base: FCPX will automatically sort by date (Event) and pick up the basic 'exifs' (date, time, length, format, …). with a click, you can add place and 'face'/person/name. you can add your personal key-words (family, fish, fumbles) to tag any clip or part of clip for easier finding. finally, you can judge clips, put them in other Events, folding Events. To find clips, search for date or 'group name' (Events) or search for tags (birth, wedding, funeral/ma, pa, son/Ford, Ferrari, Bentley/winter, summer, spring/ … or whatever your sorting concept/keywords is.
a manual sorting of single mov/mts/… on Finder-level is
    a) obsolete, and
    b) old fashioned.
Tagging is much faster and more flexible ('find Grandma in all Events <2002')

  • Online solution for Time Machine

I was wondering if anyone had a good solution for automatically backing up Time Machine files online.  The drive I use for my TM backups failed.  Even though my main Mac drive is fine and I can start a new TM archive, I've basically lost the time stamped backups of previous states which comes in handy once in awhile.  So it is necessary to have a backup of the backup which I could do with Raid 1 which I will probably now do.  But ideally it would be nice to backup the TM archive online.  I looked into doing this with CrashPlan but they don't want customers to backup the TM archive because of the file size due to redundancy so it doesn't seem like it would be easy to set it up automatically.  You would have to remember to every once in a while to copy the TM archive to your main drive.  I was hoping that it might be possible to do this with the iCloud drive but it really isn't set up for that.  I know that online backups are slow but once the online backup is seeded I wouldn't think it would be too much of a problem afterwards since TM is incremental and I wouldn't think it would be any slower than the regular incremental online backups for the main drive.

With Mavericks and later, multiple disks or multiple Time Capsule targets are supported for Time Machine, and the backups will alternate if both are present, or to whichever one is currently present (such as one at home & one at an office, for instance) if both targets are not present at the same time.  (There are wrinkles.)
Time Machine supports the ability to attach a disk and create a backup archive.
With directly-attached storage such as USB or Thunderbolt, RAID arrays will work just fine as Time Machine targets.
With an OS X Server system configured and running — a second Mac Mini, for instance — Time Machine can write to disks on that system, whether RAID or not.
For off-site backups, making a disk image copy of a Time Machine disk will work probably work, but'll be a pain to restore, and pulling data off of a Time Machine backup is going to be pretty slow due to its complex structure.  You'll usually end up transferring disks around as part of this, unless you have a very big network connection and enough storage (somewhere) to keep a couple of copies around.
Alternatively, use a different backup tool.
In general, RAID is not a backup.  User errors, nefarious deletions and ordinary data corruptions can clobber a Time Machine backup, even if the underlying storage hardware is working fine.
Podini has a whole pile of Time Machine information online.  Some of which is linked above.

  • Advice for keeping high quality files for archiving

I'm contemplating archiving here. I love reference files because they are pretty small in file size and don't compress. However, I have to worry that all my files will remain in the same exact place forever. I have found that is not always the case for whatever reason. Then there is self-contained reference files. A great idea...I don't have to worry about moved files but the file size is enormous. I do long videos (sometimes an hour or so) so file size is really important to me.
Is there anyway I can do a self-contained reference file but somehow reduce the file size or something? I know I'm throwing a bone here but I figured I would ask because my current scenario is not improving daily. I know I can put my hour or whatever to tape but that essentially is compressing it and I'm using valuable time. Any advice?

HI Lowsky, I been down this road some time back and my opinion is that if you are working in any workflows associated with CMFs (contemporary media format) in a tapeless workflow then storing your LONG TERM content as CMF's on spinning disk will eventually lead to misery and a hopeless state of anger and heartache. Spinning disk is not the long term answer.
refer here for lots of detail: I have post this detail in another forum at
    http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=21284&page=6
*Archiving FCP Media Manager Projects, essence, import/transfer material.. etc*
Aside from many testimonials about DISK being faster (more accessible?) and convenient, storing content on spinning disk is a like as a child having all the toys you could imagine but only playing with your 3-4 favourites. (replace with any analogy). Simply you only need the stuff around on disk that you actually use a lot or currently.
I (and I'm not alone) don't trust and disk storage system unless you buy enterprise level disk arrays with some fault tolerance and smart disk array controllers AND that you have at least multiple instances of the content. I qualify ENTERPRISE disk systems - these at $USD5.00-$USD10.00/GB+. I mean those disk arrays from I,T. vendors, and M&E guys like Isolon, DDN, Apple, HP, Copan and their 40+ ilk.
The affordable stuff most of us is around $USD0.25-$USD0.75/GB - SATA and lowest end HBA's or simple controllers. Basically just spinning +power soaking heat dissipating buckets+ to put our content into. (USB | FW or the external JBOD disk enclosues with an HBA or higher FC disk arrays)
Most of these are enterprise disk storage systems that are out of the price range of many on this forum...
Devices like DROBO™ are cute but they are way way too slow (29MB/s when not busy consolidating itself ) and are very limited on their architecture for VIDEO work (useless). I gave mine away after a week to a photographer.
Alternatives like many sets of external and detachable and mobile spinning disks, leaving them spun down until use offer a great odea however unless the disk controller is savvy, you may as well have a bank of el cheapo Le Cie 1TB death disks and get on your knees and face the moon when you power them up.. (Good = luck with that!) mode=:rant
    *Viable Archive Solutions for CMFs?*
After looking for viable solutions to by content storage problem after moving to a tapeless workflow with my HVX200 and P2, AND losing on two separate occasions a whole 1TB external disk (Le Cie).. losing most of the data of two drives (2 x 1TB over 4 months).. I have had it with disks!
For me, Disk storage should only be used like a +kitchen table+ for immediate and current and frequently accessed work. Like the +toy analogy+, hen not in use, put the toys away somewhere where they will not be damaged (the content objects) (like a large toy box or cupboard) that you can access with ease. (not the garden shed out the back nor the attic else it will never be used). This is workflow is simple enough..
My first thought for managing FCP media manager archives, P2 footage and final composites was to use BD's.. however the cost for the content that was wanted to archive was not cost effective. I had literally 100's of old video tapes, DV , HDV and ye old video8 rubbish that I needed to move to a CMF, all accessible via proxies and metadata (a la CATDV™ a mam from squarebox.co.uk). The restriction was COST of BD or DVD-DL media and worse the time of write and then access the material ESSENCE when I needed it.
I even looked for a while at many 100's of DVD-5's which in Hong Kong are as cheap as free beer coasters in a bar. I would buy them in canisters of 100's at a time. Simply these are cost effective using TOAST to make multivolumes self extracting archives, but are SOOOooooo slow to write and then access.
So I turned to looking at the economies and workflows of using LTO4 Ultrium data tape drive. I was quite surprised at the reasonable cost.
The cost of Ultrium LTO4 data tape media of to 800GB native for prices that are as cheap as $USD1.40/GB as pure media (the tape cartridge itself). It depend where you buy them and at what quantity. Of course there are the necessary offset/initial costs of the data tape drive AND the SAS HBA you will need for your mac. (LTO4 Ultrium @ $USD2700 and $USD150+ for SAS HBA). Much cheaper fo Ultrium LTO3 but lower data rates and capacities.
NExt year HP et al will have Ultrium LTO5 out at 1.5TB RAW/native capacity as their roadmap suggests.
THe uncompressed / RAW data rates of LTO4 Ultrium data tape drives for ARCHIVING material is for me between 105MB-109MB/sec (that's megabytes).. simply BLOWS any firewire 800 interface out of the water. There are many variables however essentially for people like us whose business is content creation or even the part timer who doesn't want to lose stuff, this is really worth a look. Again it will depend on the software you utilise. I use Tolisgroups BRU.
Just do the sums on the time it takes you to archive (or copy to another disk system [BD or DVD-5, DVD 9, et or a spindle) lets say 4 hours of DVCPROHD 1080P (110Mbs or just over 1GB/minute). You can see that this is a lot of content and will take a great deal of time.
This works out at roughly 240GB.
I think this will take over 500 minutes (6 hours? @ 2min/GB)+ to COPY on a FW400 interface and slightly less on a FW800 interface.
However it takes a mere 2200 second or 36 minutes using an LTO4 SAS Ultrium tape drive (with no tape mount/dismount timeloadlocate)!
On a lesser scale, a look at DDS tapes for the low end. These are despite rumours/myths are quite stable and work well with the right software on the mac and the mac laptop.
I am having great success with this archive and recall system using Tolisgroups BRU that is NATIVE for OSX.
I have posted some very recent information on the two SAS PCIe HBAs I am using (ATTOTECH and LSI) and the two tape drives I am using (HP and QUantum).
For LTO4 Ultrium SAS tape drives I would recommend only HP and ATTOTECH EXPRESSSAS as this is reliable and very stable and very fast for OSX.
I am very happy with this archive/recall workflow using LTO4 Ultrium data tape for FCP.
