Solution for black line in Ipod classic screen?

Hello
Last week my ipod fell on the floor and since then I have a black line in the middle of the screen. The ipod is phisically intact, no scratch, not broken. Only when I turn it on, I have a big black line in the middle. At the beginning it was small dots and now it s a big line
Is there any solution? Change the screen? Or do I have to live with it?
Thanks a lot in advance
Vivile

When you drop it, the impact knock off some connection in the Display circuitry, those SMT balls, so the missing connection cause the unwanted  lines.
However if you are lucky, just try
this iPod Hard Reset ( it wont delete anything on your iPod)
Toggle the Hold switch ( make sure you dont see the red mark)
Press Menu and center buttons simultaneously for about 10 secs till the Apple Logo comes ON then release the buttons.
Select you language preferrence.
See this Apple support article on the 5Rs
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/
Good Luck!
You can change your screen, if it is under warranty. (they replaced it with a refurbish iPod)
OR if it is not under warranty, to can also get it replaced for a  fee at Apple shop
or bring it to a 3rd Party iPod service vendor.

  • White lines on ipod classic screen, could it be cracked screen? it has never been dropped or anything. Is it pretty common problem. Contacted apple support, denies problem exist.

White lines three appeared on my ipod classic screen. It has never been dropped or screen scratched. Suddenly white lines appeared on the screen. Tried to reset settings, nothing changed. Is this a common issue with ipod classic coz apple adviser denying ever having heard of this problem and I have to pay half of msrp to fix it. Offered 10% off to purchase new ipod and turn in old one. What a waste. Apple should take responsibility if this problem is indeed inherent with this product.

The magnets are tnot the cause.
Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem.
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPad: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore tofactory defaults/new iPad
If still problem then time for an appointment at teh Genius Bar of an Apple store. The drops may have damaged it or there could be another cause.

  • White Line Down Middle of iPod Classic Screen

I have recently noticed a thin white vertical line on the right side of my iPod classic screen.  It doesn't affect the iPod's function at the moment but I'm worried that it is signaling a potential technicial problem.  I have tried all the initial troubleshooting steps suggested but am leery about uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes.

Removing and re-installing iTunes won't do any good as it does not pertain to the iPod in any way.  If none of the 5 R's of troubleshooting helped, we can definitely say that it is a hardware issue with the iPod's LCD display.

Sometimes it helps to let the battery fully drain and then redoing the 5 R's.

  • Solid black line on HP tablet screen

I just got this HP stream 7 5709. So far so good except there is a horizontal black line just across the screen. I first thought it is the screen protector, but now I begin to think it is in the display itself. Is this known?Attached the image here. Thanks

  • Our podcast shows black thumbnails on iPod Podcasts screen

Our podcast shows black thumbnails on iPod Podcasts screen, im not talking about the channels logo here, that works fine.
It's when you have subscribed to the feed and the podcasts are downloaded to your Apple mobile device and you view your podcasts on screen, down the left it has little video thumbnails of the episodes.
In my case apart from one episode they all show a black video thumbnail and I want to show our logo or ideally a frame from that episode say 5 seconds in would do.
    Thanks for any help.

I don't know exactly how the iPod works in this context: in iTunes, when subscribing, the image you see for each episode is either the first chapter image of an 'enhanced' podcast or an image which has been embedded in the file. I don't know what it does with movie files - possibly the first frame. You could subscribe in iTunes on your PC and see what shows there.
In any event, you should be able to embed an image of your choice in each file (you would then need to re-upload it). The method is described here:

  • Nothing shows on my ipod classic screen

I can not get anything to show up on my ipod classic screen. I tried resetting my ipod and still nothing shows up on my screen, not even the Apple logo. I wonder if the battery is dead.

If the battery is "dead" (as in "fully drained", or empty), you will need to leave it on charge for at least thirty minutes before it shows any signs of life. Then, let it fully charge.
If that is not the issue, try leaving the iPod alone and unplugged for a few days (painful, I know). If the iPod is stuck doing something, but unable to turn on the screen, leaving it alone will cause the battery to empty out. Then, go for the "empty battery" option of recharging, as above.

  • I'm looking for a good case for the 7th gen iPod classic. Not some silicon skin but a good case.  Help?

I really do want a new case for my 7th gen iPod classic. It seems there's barely anything on the market anymore except skins.  I don't want a skin. Anything still out there? Searching the web is depressing me.

I bought this hard case for my iPod. I like it but you are right, there isn't a lot of choice out there!

    Since you stated
         I tried everything possible

do the Disk Diagnostic as posted by tt2.
It wont fix your problem, but the report will help in troubleshooting.

  • My ipod has two thin black lines running across the screen. What causes this, and is there a fix?

Suddenly, my Classic ipod got two narrow, black lines runnings horizontally across the screen.  Will thes eventually go away or is the screen damaged?
    Thanks!

You can work through the remaining five 5 R's of troubleshooting.

It might also be a good idea to let the iPod's battery fully drain. Then charge it back up and restore it once more in iTunes.
Otherwise, it's likely a hardware issue with the iPod's LCD display, meaning you'll need to take or send your iPod in for service either via Apple or a third party repair service. Here is Apple's repair pricing.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
Note that they don't actually repair the device, but exchange it for one of the same generation, model, and capacity.  A third party service will actually replace the damage part for a little less.  Google "iPod screen repair" and you should get a number of results to work with.

  • IPod Classic Screen still black after restoring it

After dropping my iPod classic, the screen went black and I could no longer get it to work.  I was able to restore it however the screen is still black. I can hear it clicking when I spin the will and it connects to iTunes but the screen is still black. Is there any way to fix this?

Put it in the rice for couple of more days. Then
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $99 for 16 GB one and $149 for the others. They do not fix yours.

  • Hi, my Macbook Pro just shut down for no reason. Before, there were black lines all over the screen. Then it shut down and it started to make beeps (3). What can I do?!

I was using my computer just as usual, I was on Microsoft Words and doing lectures on the Internet. Then, out of nowhere, the screen froze and black lines appeared all over the screen and the computer shut down. The screen was all black, but I think it was still open because my laptop was doing sounds, three beeps. When it beeps, the little light that shows you when your laptop is open is bright, so the beeps and the light are synchronized. AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO, help me!!!

There is a hardware problem. Possibly bad RAM. Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.

  • 160gb iPod Classic, Screen No Longer Working

    Hello,
So I have a 160gb ipod classic. I dropped it a few weeks ago by accident and now the screen does not work. No backlight, no lightup, no nothing. It will sync up to my PC just fine and if I plug headphones in and navigate to a song by memory it will play. I hoped it was just an issue with the connector coming loose inside the ipod. So i took it all apart since I got it in like 2010 and was out of warrenty. Unfortunatly, to my dismay, the issue was not the connection to the logic board. After doing a little more research I took it apart even more to see if there was a tear in the lcd connecter anywhrere, there wasn't. So I put it all back together and I was still getting the same issue. Great. My next thought was to get a new lcd. I had an ipod classic 80gb in like 2007 with a broken hard drive so I did some research and found they were the exact same lcd. So instead of buying a new lcd, I just took it out of that one and replaced it in the 160gb ipod. It worked!! well... sort of. I still get nothing on the display screen, but now, when I touch the clickwheel, the backlight lights up. Again, I can select songs from memory and it syncs up fine, but I cannot see anything on the screen. So thats a start, isnt it? I'm not sure. I tried to restore it in iTunes but kept getting an "unknown error 1514." Did some reserch on that and wasnt very helpful.
If anyone could help me out anymore that would be great. I am kind of at an end for what else to do. I'm out of ideas and after looking through this forum and others I have not found a real solution. ANY advice would be helpful. Thanks so much!
I am seriously considering ditching hard drive based media players, as the second they get dropped its all over. But I love being able to carry around all 100+ gigs of music and 30+ gigs of movies with me in one small device. if they made a 128 gig flah memory itouch id be all over it...

    Hi, Meg.
I've contacted Apple as you suggested and they have already taken care of the problem.
Thank you for your help and reply.

  • IPOD CLASSIC SCREEN IS DIM, CANNOT BRIGHTEN

I have an iPOD Classic and the screen has become dim, as if no backlight. Yes, I turned the backlight on and set the backlight timer correctly. Good Battery too. Also did the 5 R's including the complete Restore, but no change. Is the Display itself bad? Or is it a logic board? Classic is an 80 Gb. All else works, except you need to hold a flashlight to the screen to read it. Please help

    Hello there,
It is hard to say at this point. A toss up you might say. Could be the backlight itself or just a bad connection. And it also sounds like you have done your part in trying to diagnose and repair the problem with what solutions are available. If you still have a warranty, I would recommend taking full advantage of it. Otherwise, I think your best bet would be to send it into a third party repair service to have them diagnose the exact problem as well as repairing the device if you wished so.
There are numerous third party businesses out there who offer repair jobs for iPods as well as diagnostics tests (some even for free) for the iPod. Just do a simple google search for "ipod repair parts" and you should receive a plethora of sites that can help you. I would also recommend doing a little bit of shopping around research to find the most affordable and qualifying deal.
    Here are a few:

    [RapidRepair|http://www.rapidrepair.com>
    [KingiPod|http://www.kingipod.com>
[ifixit|www.ifixit.com] is a website that offers replacment parts as well as excellent step-by-step instructions on how to replace the part yourself.
    Hope this helps.

  • Random black lines in different application screens

My MacBook Pro is displaying random black lines across the screen on various applications. They stay on the screen even if I scroll up and down, but don't go onto background applications or the desktop. Has anyone else had this issue?
I'd be happy to email a screenshot.

Uninstalled iTunes completely and found a older firmware for the iPod. Installed it. Then installed the iTunes 7 but did not have the iTunes update the iPod. Worked like a charm! No more black lines.
