Solution for syncing iCal with Exchange2003

After two days searching and struggling, I finally have found a solution to sync iCal with Exchange 2003. Outlook 2011 for the Mac connected to an older Exchange 2003 server, gives imap email functionality, but no support for syncing calendars or address books. With DavMail running as gateway on your Mac, you can sync not only iCal, but also calendars on mobile devices such as iPhone and iPad.
Here I wrote how I did it: http://www.zweerscreatives.nl/?p=372

Dennis,
You can try a work around that allows you to sync tasks and contacts to outlook using an alternate profile in outlook.
Create a new 'dummy' profile (ie CRMOD) in Outlook. You will need to make up a fake email server settings or base it on the IMAP connection to Beehive.
Once you have created the dummy profile, add the .pst data file to your normal Beehive Profile, this will allow you to access the tasks, calendar and contacts in the CRMOD profile.
In the PIM Sync setup select your 'dummy' profile as the outlook profile to sync.
Your users will have two contact, task and calendar folders on thier outlook desktop, but some folks prefer to separate their contact files and tasks anyway. Outlook will display a unified set of tasks if you view 'To-Do List'
Make sure to check the 'Show this folder as an email address book' in the contact folder properties.
Hope this helps while you wait for the enhancement!

  • Best phone for Sync-ing with iCal?

I'm due to upgrade my mobile and wondered which is the best available handset for Sync-ing with a mac. At present I have the Sony Ericson K750i which was working fine up until I upgraded to Tiger.
    Any ideas?

Has anybody had any experience syncing the Motorola
    KRZR with iCal?
I own a Motorola KRZR K1m (Sprint), which is supposedly supported by iSync 2.4. This seems to be a troublesome phone in regard to compatibility with iSync. If you read the iSync discussions, you will see many problems. Those that do get iSync to accept the KRZR as "supported" seem to still have problems with iCal in particular. Evidently, there are some system hacks available to force the sync to work with iCal. If you are not comfortable with getting inside files and re-writing code, then you may not be a happy camper.
Naturally, if you have access to a Windows machine, you will have no problem. (... Getting ready to duck, since that last statement will draw out all the Apple apologists and Apple-employee-wannabes ...)
Personally, I have had no success getting iSync to recognize my KRZR at all. While I can transfer files via bluetooth, the iSync issues make me wish I had some other phone. In fact, the iSync/KRZR issues are probably going to lead me to change to another (known to be supported) phone. Since I'm stuck with Sprint, that won't be easy.
    Good luck!

  • Have thunderbolt and need to sync ical with google calendar in order to use.  Any suggestions?

Have a thunderbolt and MacBook.  Need to sync ical with google calendar as thunderbolt supports google calendar.  Any suggestions?

I think we may be talking about two different things. Thunderbolt is the new two way display port on Mac Book Pros and Apple displays.
Thunderbolt (originally codenamed Light Peak) is an interface for connecting peripheral devices to a computer via an expansion bus. Thunderbolt was developed by Intel and brought to market with technical collaboration from Apple Inc. It was introduced commercially on Apple's updated MacBook Pro lineup on February 24, 2011.
Thunderbolt combines PCI Express and DisplayPort into a serial data interface. A single Thunderbolt port supports hubs as well as a daisy chain of up to seven Thunderbolt devices; up to two of these devices may be high-resolution displays using DisplayPort. You can move data to and from peripherals up to 20 times faster than with USB 2.0 and up to 12 times faster than with FireWire 800.

  • Sync iCal with LG VX8550 (New Chocolate)

Does anyone know how or if I can sync iCal with the new Verizon LG Chocolate phone? If so, how is it done?

I have no problems syncing both ways - but...
Are you giving your Mac enough time to sync to the cloud? The mac does not "push", it syncs. If you have the MobileMe sync icon in the main menu on your mac, you can open the preferences and there you can set the time interval between syncs. Your default may be set to 1 hour or 1 day. I'm not sure what the "automatically" setting means, I know that for me it can take a number of minutes. Is it 15 as a minimum?

  • How to sync ical with multiple apple devices and android?

Does anybody have use an android phone in addition to apple devices, and have you figured out how to sync ical with all? (I know there are other calendars that can be used by all, but it means a lot to my husband to stay with ical.)

I tried Yahoo in the past but had trouble with duplicate entries. However, this was a while ago before Yahoo updated their site and this was with syncing to a Windows computer with Outlook in addition to a Mac so my results might not be typical. Yahoo's worth a shot, but my experience with Yahoo is why I use Google Calendar.
Beyond that, I don't know of any other "free" services. There are many other hosted calendar sites that could work, but you'd pay something like $5-$20 per month, which is comparable to MobileMe.

  • Many years ago synced iCal with Microsoft program. Since installing Lion whenever I try to create an event in iCal it flashes up message "Unable to open Microsoft sync services Power PC applications no longer supported." How do I get rid of message?

Many years ago synced iCal with Microsoft program. Since installing Lion whenever I try to create an event in iCal it flashes up message "Unable to open Microsoft sync services Power PC applications no longer supported." How do I get rid of message?

Lion no longer supports PowerPC apps. If this is Microsoft Office 2008 (Entourage 2008) then you should disable the syncing services.  (I don't have Office 2008 installed anymore so I don't know exactly what it's called anymore.)  If you have Microsoft Office 2004 or earlier, then it can't be run on Lion at all since Lion removed Rosetta, which is what allowed a PPC app to run on an Intel based Mac.
Also, I believe Microsoft removed sync services from the current Outlook 2011 (which replaces Entourage) so even upgrading to a newer version of Microsoft Office will not get you back that calendar sync feature.  Supposedly Microsoft is working on a new syncing system, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

  • ITunes doesn't sync iCal with iPhone after upgraded to Mountain Lion

iTunes doesn't sync iCal with iPhone after upgraded to Mountain Lion. I even tried to use Replace Information On This iPhone and it doesn't work. Any idea guys?

I'm having the same problem. It's as if my iPhone and MacBook Pro now have two separate calendars.
Basically, I have a MacBook Pro (Mountain Lion, 13", late 2011) that I sync via USB with an iPhone 4S (iOS 5.1.1). Before upgrading to Mountain Lion, all of my iCal events would sync flawlessly. But none of the events I've created in iCal (Calendars) since upgrading have synced to the iPhone. Likewise, no new events that I create on the iPhone Calendar will sync to iCal. Also, changes to an existing event (even one created before upgrading to Mountain Lion) don't get synced either.
Everything else seems to be syncing just fine though (music, apps, contacts, etc).

  • Still not resolved: cannot sync iCal with either my iPhone or Nokia E71

I have tried everything that has been suggested in these posts, but neither the iPhone NOR the Nokia E71 want to sync with my iCal calendars (I have 4 set up in one iCal application). Anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this? It used to work fine, but not is suggesting that the iCal calendar is not "writable".

I have just discovered something else on this issue (which still persists)..when I set up an appointment in the Nokia, it does find calendars to sync with but in Entourage instead of in my iCal? Does this help solve the problem that I have been having syncing iCal with Nokia/iPhone?? Anyone???

  • Is it possible to sync iCal with iCloud on Lion machines but still subscribe on pre-Lion machines?

I absolutely love iCal, and have a very complicated system set up such that various individuals/computers can access my calendars.  I was thrilled about iCloud, as that mean that I would not have to worry about remembering events until I found myself in front of the "main" machine, but could update iCal from all Lion/iOS5 devices, which are my general working machines.
But, it appears that iCloud has removed my former webcal publishing, and now my pre-Lion machines cannot keep up to date with the calendars.  So, I've done a bunch of investigating, and think I have found a work-around, but I still have a concern about it, and am also wondering if there is a better solution.
So, what I want to do is this:
I have two Macs running Lion (laptop, desktop) and an iPhone running iOS5 that I would like to be able to update calendars from and have it show up on all.  iCloud neatly accomplishes this (whereas before, I had to wait to find myself in front of the desktop, or remember to sync the iPhone).
I also have a plethora of older Macs, owned by myself, people in my group, and my family, that currently subscribe to various webcal addresses to keep up with "Work" and "Home" calendars, on a read-only basis.  The Macs are running anywhere from OS 10.2 to 10.6.  Upgrading to Lion is *not* an option -- first of all, they're not all my machines, and second of all, some are truly old (10.2 is running on a G3 -- yes, a G3, still in working order and completely fit for its purpose, with no plans to update until the machine physically stops working, but 10.2 is the most recent OS it can run).
The work-around I found is this:
I set the iCloud calendars to share with "everyone" which provides me with a webcal address that I can send to people and tell them to subscribe to it in their iCals.
    My concern is:
I am concerned about the "everyone" sharing:  I previously used a prviate, password-protected third party webcal pubishing service.  The URLs the everyone-sharing produces look complicated enough that it is unlikely that anyone would "guess" it, but is possible to browse public iCalendars somewhere?  The information in the calendars isn't hugely sensitive, but some of it is private enough it would cause a stink if some people blundered across the "Work" calendar, and perhaps some embarrassment if others found the "Home" calendar (especially as work people will know I am using this method).  Does anyone know how easy it is to access these calendars if you have not been provided the URL by the publisher?
And finally, is there  a better solution?  Ideally, I'd have password-protected webcal sharing.  It looked to me that the "only with people you invite" choice requires people to both have an iCloud account, and then use an iCloud enabled OS in order to get it into their iCal, which won't work with the pre-lion machines.  But perhaps I am wrong about this?

Sharing (not publishing) can be done privately - which requires the recipients to have an iCloud account - or publicly. As you say, this means than anyone who knows the URL can subscribe: but there's no published list of calendars, people who don't know the URL would have to guess it so the chances of them finding it are fairly low.

  • How do i sync ical with google calendar, in that direction

i have google cal and ical syncset up but it was set up by google telling what to enter into ical. this made my other calendars, all the google calendars i have other than the main one, into "delegates" on ical.
whats the reason or process for this? cant they just been normal calendars on ical?
the reason i ask is that i have a menu pull down app which seems to only read "normal" calendars and not delegated calendars...
can i sync ical to google cal but enter details into ical to sync with google rather than the other way round?

So if I make calendar entry in my iphone it syncs to my mac ical but not icloud.
If everything is set to use iCloud then it's impossible for data to get from the iPhone to the mac but not iCloud, since all the data actually resides on iCloud and is read from there by devices. It rather sounds as if you have some syncing going on iTunes. If you look at the calendar listing on your Mac and Phone they must be listed under iCloud, not 'On My Mac/iPhone' - is that the case?

  • Sync iCal with Touch 2.0

With Push turned on, new iCal events added to my computer are sent to my iPod Touch; iCal events added to my iPod do not show up on my computer. With Push turned off, iCal events added to my iPod are sent to my computer but iCal events added to the computer are NOT sent to my iPod. I cannot find a setting or combination of settings that will allow the syncing of iCal events between my computer and my iPod. I have not tried Contacts, but I assume I will have the same problem.
Has anyone been able to sync iCal events between computer and iPod as was possible under earlier versions of the iPod/iPhone firmware?

I have no problems syncing both ways - but...
