Solution for using notepad on lap/in reclined position?

Hello all
I am trying to find a way to around the neck strain, improvised pile of books and hastily shifted coffee tables
Below are two products I have seen, I don't know anyone who actually uses anything for this purpose, so I'm hoping for a personal recommendations/alternatives or quirky solutions from a Macbook user here!
[mine's a 17" Macbook pro]..

Using your computer in a reclined position is likely to make your neck stiff regardless of what supports the computer; it's your neck that will need support. You don't actually say exactly what other problem()s you're trying to address, so it's hard to advise you.

  • Need solution for using Symbol LRT3840 with Apps 10.7 and/or 11i?

Any suggestions for using Symbol's scanner/terminal with Oracle 10.7 and/or 11i? The symbol unit runs a telnet session (with a 1/4 viewable area). I'm looking for some alternate screen templates and/or a software solution that will allow me to remap the existing full screen forms so all critical information is displayed on the symbol unit in the allowable viewing area. I understand that version 11i of Oracle Apps does not support character-based telnet sessions, so I'm also interested in a fix that will be transparent to my material handlers when we upgrade from 10.7 to 11i. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi
We are developing solutions in that area.
If we can know more of the exisitng solution you have implemented or PDA and how it is integrated with Oracle Application(whether it is a third party tool?)
then we can discuss about arriving at a solution.

  • Best Practice / Solutions for using 11g DB+x86 or Small Computer to build iaas/paas?

My customer wants to build their own iaas/paas using Oracle 11g DB, plus x86 or other small computer, running Linux or Solaris or Unix OS.
Oracle Exadata is not feasible for them to use currently.
Customer wants to know whether there are other customers have implemented their cloud solution based on these or not?
If yes, would like to share the experience, presentation slides, best practices etc.
Is there an Oracle email DL for asking this kind of question?
    Thanks,
    Boris

Like Rick, I'm not aware of a specific "cloud implementors forum". Internally, Oracle has lots of material on implementing cloud, using any platform at all, although obviously we feel Engineered Systems are the most cost-effective solution for many customers. Are you interested in IaaS i.e. virtualised hardware, or PaaS i.e. DBaaS? They should not be confused, neither is required for the other, in fact, using IaaS to implement "DBaaS", as the OpenStack trove API attempts to do, is probably the most counter-productive way to go about it. Define the business-visible services you will be offering, and then design the most efficient means of supporting them. That way you gain from economies of scale, and set up appropriate management systems that address issues like patching, security, database virtualisation and so on.

  • Solution for using HDMI output to devices not supporting HDCP

I read a number of similar posts about this issue and wanted to share my experience on it, propose a possible solution and ask if anyone else has already tried it.
    Symptom
The symptom is that when playing rented content (some have reported this with purchased content as well, but that's not my experience) *you hear audio, but see either a black or a white screen with no video*.
    _My Experience_
I had this problem with my Boxlight Cinema 17SF projector, which is a few years old. It has a DVI input, so seeking to get the best picture possible, rather than connecting the Apple TV to the projector using a component video cable, I tried to use an HDMI to DVI cable. It looked great for TV shows and purchased movies, but when trying to view movie rentals I was hearing audio, but seeing only a black screen. I called Apple support, told them about the problem and gave them my exact configuration, but they didn't have any suggestions to offer beyond restoring to factory defaults and upgrading. I tried this, and tried every possible video resolution and projector setting, but after days spent on it, nothing would solve the problem.
    _Background on the Problem_
After reading some posts from helpful users in the Apple TV forum, and after some googling, I found that this problem happens when users try to use an HDMI to DVI cable to connect the Apple TV to an older display device, such as a high definition TV or projector. As it turns out, content played over the HDMI connector is protected using HDCP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDCP, http://www.projectorpeople.com/cables/HDCP_DVI.asp).
Essentially, in order to properly display content, the display device needs an HDCP chipset from a subsidiary of Intel, which older devices do not have (plus for HDMI, HDCP support is mandatory but for DVI, it's optional). If your display device does not have this chipset, or worse yet, if it has the chipset but it isn't compatible with the Apple TV version of the chipset, video content will not display and you'll typically get a black or white screen. Apple must have gotten a number of support calls on this, as I read in a recent post that they no longer support using HDMI to DVI cables to connect your Apple TV to your display device. Aha.
    _Component Video_
One of the nice things about component video is that there's no HDCP to worry about. You can use the component video output on the Apple TV to connect to your display device, and you'll be able to view all content. In my case, I'm using a component video to SVGA adapter. It works, and I can view all content, purchased or rented.
Unfortunately, however, aside from component video being an analog rather than a digital signal, the component output on the Apple TV is crippled and only supports 480i resolution. So if you have a high definition device and want to use component video at higher resolutions than 480i to watch your high definition movies, you're out of luck.
Just as an aside, component video looks best for me when I go into the settings and first try to select 720p resolution. I hear two "beep beep" sounds (the same sound as when you try to navigate beyond the end of a menu) and briefly see a menu showing that the Apple TV is canceling the resolution change for me (holy cow that's weak, they crippled this at the interface level), and the Apple TV forces me back to 480i. However, for some reason the contrast is better after this, colors are better and blacks are much deeper. Despite this unexplained oddity which may only be true for my Cinema 17SF DLP projector, the resolution is still limited to 480i.
    _Possible Solution?_
After some more googling, I ran into this device called an HDFury at http://www.hdfury.com/. Apparently, it's an HDMI to VGA/component video converter that strips HDCP from the video and allows the use of resolutions up to 1080p. There are two versions, the HD Fury and the HD Fury 2. Although it's pricey, I'm going to give the HD Fury 2 a try. Even though it wouldn't be a digital connection to my projector, at least it should allow me to use 720p or 1080p, in theory.
I should point out that I'm not sure about the legality of this device. Essentially you're removing something that was supposed to be there to prevent people from copying digital content, but regarding this I think a couple of things: 1) It's only an analog output (SVGA or component), so you're not getting the original digital data and 2) you're using this for personal use, or you should be. You're not using it to circumvent the DRM, but only so that you can view the content you've rightfully purchased or rented.
So, *has anyone tried this device with the Apple TV*, or discovered another way to get all available resolutions when displaying on older high-definition devices using DVI or component video? I'll wait a few days for responses, then go ahead and buy one and post again about my results with it. Thanks for any advice.

I have an update on this that should clarify one critical thing and make my original premise about the use of an HD Fury unnecessary (although the content of the post might still be useful). I had thought that the component video output on the Apple TV was crippled to 480i, but it's not.
What was happening to me was that 720p and 1080i resolutions were taking a long time to sync on my projector, so I was never seeing the Cancel/OK menu that comes up to accept the resolution. I thought that the Apple TV was selecting Cancel for me, but it wasn't, it was just timing out because I never accepted the new resolution.
So, if you KNOW that your device supports the resolution you're selecting (such as 720p) and your device is just taking a long time to sync, select the new resolution, wait a second then press down and OK on your remote, even though you don't see anything. You'll accept the new resolution.
However, *if you do this and the new resolution doesn't work, you could be hosed*. I suggest that if this is the case, remember the remote keypresses necessary to back out and reverse the change. For example, remember the number of times you need to press up or down to return to your original resolution, then hit OK, down then OK to go back to a safe resolution, like 480i.
At least now, I'm able to use 720p or 1080i with the component video output, and it works with both rented and purchased videos. It still doesn't work with the HDMI -> DVI cable, but the use of the HD Fury should be unnecessary when the Apple TV component output supports all resolutions.

  • What is best solution for using a Palm Tungsten 2 on a Windows 7 computer?

Driven by the end of XP, I purchased an HP Z230 Workstation running Windows 7 Professional.   I'd like to get my Palm Tungsten 2 working, and I've heard several options here on doing that.
    OPTIONS
    A.  Use Palm Desktop 6.2 with Bluetooth for hotsync.  (I've done this already with a Win7 laptop, but I use the Note Pad utility a lot with some macros, which unfortunately is not supported on  Desktop v6.2).
    B.  Use Palm Desktop 4.1.4 in a virtual Windows XP environment running under Win 7.  I know I can do that, and that is probably my fallback.  However, Microsoft suggests that you disconnect from the Internet any time you use the Virtual XP, because it may be susceptible to hacking since they don't support XP anymore.   So that will be an added nuisance that I will probably forget to do.
    C.  Use the Aceeca USB driver to make Desktop 4.1.4 work.  I tried following the instructions here to do that, but when Hotsync fails, it never shows up as a yellow triangle in the device manager list, even after I followed the trick to make hidden devices visible.  So I have not been able to even try the Aceeca driver with Palm 4.1.4 yet.
    D.  Install the Aceeca Desktop 4.1 and update to their driver.  I could try this (uninstall Palm 4.1.4 and install Aceeca 4.1) but it looks like it depends on the same process to update the driver as my option C just above.  So I'm thinking I may run into the same roadblock as C.
    Questions:
Does anyone have any other ideas of how to get the Aceeca driver hooked up to Palm Desktop 4.1.4 that I could try?
Does anyone know if Aceeca Desktop supports the Note Pad facility if I try option D?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Terry
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Palm Blue,
    Thanks for weighing in!
Here is what I know so far.   I use the Palm Desktop 4.1 on my Win XP computer, and have no problems syncing my Tungsten T2 with USB Hotsyncs.
I've also successfully hotsynced the T2 to a Win7 Pro laptop computer using Palm Desktop 6.2. and Bluetooth.
My goal, which sounds like you have already accomplished, is to install Palm Desktop 4.1.4 on my new Win7 Pro desktop, so that I can sync with the T2 and get the Note Pad functionality also.   This is like my "OPTION C."
Did you have to use the Aceeca driver to make this work on your computer, or were you able to do it with the Palm driver?  One other person reported elsewhere having gotten 4.1.4 working on a 64 bit Win7 installation, and he made no mention of the Aceeca driver.  I have not been able to contact him.
In response to your question about what I see when I try to sync:
Palm 4.1.4 is installed on the Win7 Pro desktop, and the hotsync icon is present.
When I try to sync, I hear the characteristic tone indicating that a USB device is recognized.  But I also get a message that pops up near it with the yellow triangle and the following text:
    "USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED"
"One of the USB devices attached to this computer has
malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.
For assistance in solving this problem, click this
    message."
If I click the message, I get popup window that says,
One of the devices attached to this comptuer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it."
It then shows a list of the USB devices inside of one of the USB Root Hubs, and one of them has a different icon and a question mark in that icon (not a yellow triangle).  And its description is in bold and it says "Unknown USB Device."
I also looked at the Device Manager during a hotsync to see if it shows a Palm device or an Other category.   Using my XP computer first with the Tungsten T2, and which also syncs okay, it is true that during the Hotsync, the Device Manager adds a device "Palm OS Handheld Device / Palm Handheld," that goes away as soon as the hotsync is complete.
Using the same Palm Tungsten 2, when I attempt the Hotsync in the Win7Pro computer,  "Palm OS Handheld Device/Palm Handheld"  does NOT appear in the Device Manager (nor anything else like it).
So for some reason, my computer does not have seem to have enough of the Palm Desktop/Hotsync installation complete that I can get to the point of either it working, or where I could try to install the Aceeca driver.
I keep trying things to get it to work, but so far now luck.  Looking for more ideas to try.

  • Need solution for Use Case - Page Fragment?

I have a set of controls and table which I need to insert into many tabs such that each tab displays the same table and functions but with slightly different data. The controls and table could be used in many different areas so doesn't make sense to code each and everyone mutiple times. I thought then that making this set of functions a page fragment and including it would do the trick, however, an exception that I have the same ID's defined was raised.
Can someone tell me what technology I should use for this use case such that one a single page with tabs I can include the same set of controls many times? Can page fragments be used multiple times on one page or do I need some sort of declarative component?
    Thank you,
    Kris

Task Flows is the way to go...
Just create a bounded task flow and create a default view activity (which is going to be your page fragment with table and other controls).
Now you can drop this TF on every tab and this way you will get a resuable table and control.
Read about Task flows in dev guide if you need further understanding on this.
One more thing, this will give you exactly same stuff on each tab. So, I am not sure what you want to change in every tab? A detailed description of your requirement might help.
    Vik
    Hope this helps

I will be doing a fair bit of driving through regional Australia where Telstra (and other telco) reception is very poor to non existent without using some kind of antenna to increase reception range. From my research I have found several solutions, my pick being the smoothtalker cradle and high gain 6.5dB antenna.  I would like to know if anyone has experience with this particular solution as well as other solutions other people are using or know of. • Solutions for using jvc's new hard drive video cam

does anyone have any experience using jvc's new hard drive video camera (GZ-MG50U) with usb in puts on OS 10.3.9? any suggestions on software soltuions to edit captured video?

Just to give you a quick run down on what MPEG-2 is... it is a highly compressed format, meaning that the moment your footage was saved as an MPEG-2 file, information was thrown away. That's what compressors do, throw away redundant information such as color information. So technically, the image in MPEG-2 is not as good as if it were captured in DV... on the flipside of that, converting that DV footage into MPEG-2 would reduce the quality of the DV footage, so technically, you would be even at this point.
Where things get ugly is when you take that compressed footage and convert it into another format for editing. This process is lossless, but the file size bloats immensely in the process. Which means when you take that converted and edited footage and run it through the compressor again to convert it back into MPEG-2 so that you can burn it onto a DVD, it has lost still more information than the original footage that you shot. If you take any footage and run it through a compressor several times, it's like re-recording over the same VHS tape... each recompression reduces quality.
This is why you don't want a device to goes directly to MPEG-2, whether it be directly to a DVD disc or a hard drive. DV and HDV are both editable formats... yes you have to capture the footage and then convert it to MPEG-2, but you also have the opportunity to edit it along the way. Cameras that go straight to MPEG-2 assume that you don't intend to edit anything, just burn it to a disc and call it good... sort of like owning a disposable camera... you're buying the convenience of not having to do anything with it.

  • SCREEN problem!! / solution for use

    hi
Falling object has left my powerbook screen unusable......computer is still working though....Q is there a way to link up a monitor to the laptop for continued use..... without needing ORIGINAL SCREEN TO CONFIGURE?

You can try plugging in the monitor and starting up your PB.
After it has finished starting up, hit Function (fn) & F7 on your PB keypad.
This should mirror your PB screen to the monitor. Good luck.

    3. should i use the delay option on the track settings?

my suggestion would be: use Cubase SX - that DAW has AWESOME latency compensation feature to deal with outboard audio hardware like compressors, EQs, effects plugged-in via their External Plugin.
Now seriously - search for Latency Fixer plugin & discussions over here and Gearslutz
btw, I REALLY would APPRECIATE from Apple, if they implement such "Ping" function (that Cubase has FOR YEARS) in to Logic

Thank you both! I didn't realize Apple offered a USB modem to use with dial-up. That's what I'll suggest to her, since it's only $49.
I did read a handful of unfavorable reviews for the modem on its Apple Store page (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=B1B 86210&fnode=home/shopmac/macaccessories/networking&nplm=MA034Z/A) -- people having trouble getting all 56k out of it, along with having problems with AOL and various ISPs. Any knowledge of this and whether it's widespread or likely isolated to a few incidents? She is not at all computer savvy, and I just want her to have a beautiful, seamless, and stress-free switch from Windoze to Mac like I did.

  • Activation Lock Solution for Used Devices

Each iOS device's serial number is registered to an Apple ID. When a user creates an Apple ID their first & last name, DOB, email address, physical address, and Security Question Answers are collected.
If someone sells their iOS device and doesn't "unlock" it, or can't unlock it because of damage, or other legitimate reasons, there should be an approved method of transferring ownership if the original owner cannot be reached by the new owner.
The new user sends in the serial number, Apple sends an email/snail mail message to the Apple ID asking if the device was stolen. If the response is No, Apple should unlock the device. If Yes, Apple & the Police can recover the device. If no answer after a period of time, it's a brick. There could also be a database of devices reported stolen.

I wasn sure if any Apple reps trolled the boards or not. That is the exact message I sent to Feedback. If enough users send the same message, maybe they'll set something up.
Apple is at risk for losing loyal product loyal customers.
i want to get my son an iPad, but really cannot afford a new one. Even if I buy one with a cracked screen and repair it, I still run the risk of not being able to use it. I know there's a process the previous owner can go through, but sometimes it can or won't get done! especially if it goes through a reseller. Apple will still make some money from me in the App Store and through iTunes, just not through their product store yet.

There is no difference. They are interchangeable.
By convention, you will frequently see IS used in functions and AS used in stored procedures-- I'm guessing that in some ancient version of Oracle there was a difference. But it's now all a personal preference.
