Solution Manager 7.1 SP11  Functionality

Dear SAP specialists;
Our company is currently using Solution Manager for the following purposes:
Solution Manager 7.0 - to be decommisioned soon
Document repository for SAP systems.
Solution Manager 7.1 SP6
SAP Banking Services and SAP BW Upgrade Projects documentation.
Business Process Monitoring (BPMon) or Banking End-of-day (EOD) jobs, PI/XI interface queues, tRFC queues, Banking Services PCO/ PPO/CpD worklists, DBA Backup monitoring.
SAP Data Volume Management (DVM) for production systems.
Technical SAP system monitoring.
Non-SAP Technical system monitoring.
Intake Request Tool (custom-developed tool to log the request tickets through froms in SAP Portal).
SAP Maintenance (MOPZ).
SAP Early Watch Alert / SAP Ad-Hoc Reporting.
Root Cause Analysis.
Change Request Management (ChaRM) - *Under Development*.
We are planning to get Solution Manager 7.1 SP11 soon and I am wondering about the following:
Is there a comprehesive source of functional and technical information (presentations, white papers, guides, overviews) about Solution Manager SP11?
How much does the SP11 upgrade changes the Solution Manager usage for purposes listed above?
As of SP10 there is a new experimental MAI Alert functionality for Business Process Monitoring and Technical Monitoring. It is limited and does not support most of BPMon tools we use. This includes Application log Monitors, Notification BADI's, Monitoring Objects Lists, BW storage and reporting, monitoring templates and migration of current solutions)
How does CO Wily Introscope work with Solution Manager SP11?

Hi Viacheslav,

  • Sap Solution Manager 7.1 SP11 Basic Configuration

    Hi Experts,
I am in fresh installation for Sap Solution Manager 7.1 SP11. At Basis Configuartion Phase in step " Configure CA Introscope".
I have successfully installed, but it shows the following message: " Offline - The EM Connection cannot be established (caused by :com.sap.smd.introscope.em.IntroscopeException: java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException_) "
Need suggestions how to proceed from here.
    thanks

    Raja,
    I assume you're using Linux/UNIX.
Here's the solution. It worked for me.
In /usr/sap/ccms/apmintroscope/config/users.xml, update the Guest password with this MD5 hash: c4582df82299e0581a9fc6bb34c53
In user management screen of "Configure CA Introscope", choose "Guest" as connection user with password "guest12" (without quotation marks)
If it's still not working, then delete the EM and re-install the introscope.
Go to expert mode -> Delete references -> Remove the line
    Delete folder /usr/sap/ccms/apmintroscope
Install introscope and management modules againdon't forget to re-set the permission for diagnostic agent user
Go back to solman_setup "Configure CA Introscope" and do import CA again
Save, you'll have a green status

  • Solution Manager 7.1

Since exceptions represent error situations and this error was not

  • Error opening a Test Script inUFT from Solution Manager

This error is the subject of a call with SAP and HP but I wondered if anyone else has come across this problem.
We work with Solution Manager 7.1 (SP11) and HP's UFT 11.53 to create automated testing. We ustilise the two free seat licences for UFT that are provided via enterprise support. We do not use HP's Quality Centre.
On some occasions when trying to open a test script for editing UFT tries to open and then closes again. The error message below is displayed in solution manager.
“External Test Tool Quick Test Professional Is Busy and Cannot Create a New Test Script”
When this happens the local cache files are wiped. We have managed to salvage some of these scripts by pasting in copies of the cache file from another PC but some we had to recreate from scratch.

If you don't have one already create a gateway instance on your Content Server.
Change or create the RFC destination :  SAPKPROTP   type = T
Check the radio button to start on Expicit Host
    Enter the program = c:\winnt\sapkprotp.exe
Enter target  host - use the hostname of the server for your Content Server
    Enter the Gateway information

  • Question about Alert Framework in Solution Manager

    Hi all,
We are planning to use Solution Manager as Central Monitoring Server, so I want to know what the advantage to use Solution Manager is, especially in Alerting.
We can define auto-reaction methods for monitors to send CCMS alerts to Alert Framework where the alerts can be forwarded to the personal responsible via Email or CCMS.
Is there any difference when using Solution Manager? Which additional functions dose Solution Manager provide in alerting?
In normal SAP Alert Framework, you can only define one receipt for escalation. Can Solution Manager support multiple level escalation? For example, an alert is sent to A, if the Alert is not confirmed by A, then the alert is forwarded to B automatically. The same way the alert can be forwarded to further persons.
    Any idea?
    Thanks!
    Regards,
    Hui

    Hi Hui,
On my opinion there is no any advantage in useíng SAP Solution Manager as central alerting systems in respect to RZ20. The arguments are as follows:
    - in SAP Solution Mnager you have performance restrictions on number of alerts to be displayed in one screen caused by the fact that the alerts are displayed in HTTP format
    - All the customizing in SAP Solution Manager for System Monitoring is Solution specific and not transportable. It means that if you have got corrupted your system monitoring session (that happens not seldom) your settings are lost. If you have created another Solution for the same systems you have to perform customizing from the scratch
    - Customizing is also not very esay to do. I would do recommend to use "User defined Alerts" Please have a look at the SAP Note 1023959 fro this topc
    - SAP Solution Manager does not provide alerting mechanism -> you have to relay to ALM in any case. Here by the way to your second question I would say that it is possible implement exactly process you have described. In the ALM category you can use button escallation to define another person that would be informed via e-mail in case the first Recipient have not completed alert from this category within predefined time
+ The only feature that is unique with System Monitoring with SAP Solution Mnager is the possibility to change threshold values for all the MTEs / MTE Classes that are defined in User Define Alerts an one button click
At the conclussion I would say that there are some custommers that are using SM as monitoring platform But more pragmatical would be to configure RZ20 with help of Rule-based alerts and self- defined system groups and use ALM as alerting infrastructure. In this case you can save in plain XML file your Alert configuration and export it in any other system. ALM has on my opinion enogh functionality for alerting

    Hi,
Only for major Support Package Stacks (09, 12, 15), SAP provides Development News on the content.
So, there is no document available for SP13.
Support Package Stack 15 was released end of February 2008.

  • Using TREX in SAP Solution Manager

    Dear all,
I want to setup TREX for document search purpose in my SAP Solution manager system.
There is already TREX installed on another system, & I have setup the connection between solution manager & TREX.
My question is , in order to use TREX for document search , I need to connect solution manager to Knowledge warehouse?
    is this true?
why can't we use TREX to search document in SAP Solution manager, BUT to use functions of SAP Knowledge Warehouse 6.0 or SAP Knowledge Provider, to store documents?
and anyone can show me more detail documentation about the configuration?
thank you very much to share!
    kelly

    Hi Kelly,
You can have a look into the SAP Solution Manager system and there you can call transaction SPRO. You find information for TREX installation with the path:
Solution Manager Implementation Guide ->SAP Solution Manager -> Configuration -> Cross Scenario Settings -> TREX Setup
    Best regards,
    Veit.

  • Installation of SAP Solution Manager 4.0

    Hello!
I have one question regarding the installation of SAP Solution Manager 4.0
Do I  need to consider the Unicode-installation of SAP Solution Manager 4.0?
We use  SAP Solution Manager just for the following scenarios:
<b>Maintenance Optimizer</b> (to patch the existing SAP-systems from SAP Solution Manager)
    and <b>monitoring-functionality (CCMS)</b>
    Thank you!
    Axel

    Hi,
Thank you very much to  Dolores Correa  and Markus Döhr for replying for my querry.FYI-My system users only use English and I do not have any problem of chineese. My problem is that I am not able to install Non-unicode kernel. The Solution manager installation program(sapinst) only takes Unicode kernel CD whereas my satellite systems are non-unicode.Now if unicode solution manager can work with non-unicode satellites, then the problem is solved.
    Warm Regards,
    Syamkrishnan

  • New Features Planned for Solution Manager 4.0

    hello friends
can can one tell me the new features that are there in solution manager 4.0 as our organisation is planning for solution manager 4.0
    regards
    neha shah

    hi neha
The upcoming release will focus on three major aspects:
Enhanced support of key customer support processes:
The SAP Solution Manager 4.0 release will offer functionality to assist you with your major application management tasks.
For example, it will allow you to implement support packages and SAP notes end-to-end. SAP Solution Manager 4.0 will provide functionality to automatically identify relevant patches, and document and manage their implementation, testing, and import to your production systems.
    Continuous improvement services:

    Hi,
The ones you have configured definitely acts as a base for the rest. However additional configurations would also be required. Hence they would not be ready now, but can be configured for use.

  • Solution Manager to Monitor SAP NetWeaver Portal

    Hi ,
I have setup Solution Manager 4.0 SP11 and I have a production EP.
I want to monitor the EP using Solution Manager.  The monitoring would check if the portal is down and if it is down, the Solution Manager would send a email to the Portal Administrator.
In order to achieve the above monitoring setup, do I need to install Solution Manager Diagnostics?
I do hope to hear from you soon.
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Mike Lee

  • Steps for solution manager sizing

    Hi,
I could not see sizing for SAP solution manager in Sizing tool.
Pls let me know of where i can find it

    hi,
    taken from
    [https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/b442d4ea-0c01-0010-a8ad-a4c2eaaf6b76]
    it is told :
Do you have a rule of thumb concerning sizing?
For small and medium sized companies, there is no need to set up a high-end server if it is only used for the SAP Solution Manager and its monitoring functions. A small/medium-sized server is sufficient. However, this is dependent on your needs and future plans. The following sizing proposal is based on a standalone server with SAP Solution Manager only.
    - For basic setup: 1 CPU current standard (min. 1 GHz), 1GB RAM, 50 GB hard disk space
    - For advanced setup: 2 CPUs current standard (min. 1 GHz), 2 GB RAM, 50 GB hard disk space
The basic setup of SAP Solution Manager is defined as only having SAP EarlyWatch Alert and service level reporting, configured on the satellite systems and up to 5 users working at the same time on the SAP Solution Manager.
The advanced setup of the SAP Solution Manager requires additional steps after the basic setup is complete. The advanced features cover the configuration of system monitoring and/or business process monitoring. For further information, please refer to the sizing proposals for SAP Solution Manager 3.1 on the SAP Service Marketplace.
    hope it help you.
