Solution Manager Document attributes
We are using solution manager for project documents. We want to add more custom attributes to the existing attributes like document type, status and the owner.
Is this possible and if yes how to do it?
Regards
Ravi
In Solution Manager project, business blueprint documents can be maintained. Like functional and technical spec documnets or configuration documents. There are attributes like document type, document status and document owner assigned to these docuents.
I want to create more attributes like target date, effort..for a document and maintain the values for every
document.
Regards
Ravi

What is solution manager - document assist?

Is anyone aware of a tool that can be used to extract project documents out of solution manager into a folder? I am looking for something similar to the Business Blueprint extract, but I want the individual documents, not the single blueprint document. I would also like to be able to select the documents to be extracted based on entered selection criteria, such as owner, last changed, etc.
In the documentation from Dr. Christoph Roller and Dr. Anja Modler-Spreizer
IBU Consumer Products and Life Sciences it mentions the following:
SAP Solution Manager automatically generates all electronic
records for creating, modifying, or deleting data. These records
are date stamped and time stamped and include the user ID of
the individual who is logged on to the system and who performed
the action. Electronic records also maintain the old and
new values of the change and the transaction used to generate
the record.
My question is, I deleted a row in the structure in the blueprint transaction SOLAR01. I had attached to this row several documents. After I deleted this row, I was wondering where I could find the document history of the deleted attached documents to that row in the structure. I have been unable to retrieve those deleted documents so far.
If it is true what Dr. Christoph Roller and Dr. Anja Modler-Spreizer are saying I should be able to get those documents back. Question is how, as there is no row left (as I deleted it) to look within attributes to get it back.
Does anyone know the answer on this? -
Mass Delete of Solution Manager Documents
Hi
We have a requirement in our project to mass delete documents ( some 4000+ ) . Is it possible
Ideally I would like to filter them with SOLAR_EVAL based on attributes and then do mass delete.
Any pointers will really be appreciated and rewarded
Regards
JagHi Jagmohan,
Sorry I dont have a direct answer myself.
However, all I can say is there is no such direct facility available in SolMan.
The procedure for mass document deletion should be much similar to the need for mass upload and perhaps met only by ABAP development.
[This|Mass Upload documents to Solution Manager; thread could help you to some extent.

Solution Manager Document templates
Hello Solution Manager Experts.
When creating word templates for document types we would like word to collect information automatically from Solution Manager. One example is the template for Process step description. When the user navigates to a business process and adds a new document this document should automatically be filled with the correct data from Solution Manager according to the template. In this example this could be:
Name of the user
Business Scenario
Business process
Business process step
Priority
Keywords
Etc.
The question is if there is any way of producing this kind of templates?
If the answer is yes, does anyone have templates to share?

Solution Manager Document Storage
Hi Team,
I am aware that the documents in solution manager are stored in Knowledge Warehouse (KW) through content server installation. Can anyone brief about How does the document storage in KW will impact / consume the overall storage capacity of Sol Man database? How does the document storage will impact the oveall Sol Man system performance?
On which scenario,we recommend installation of KPRO server in the Sol Man System for document storage?
Guidance Required.
Thnaks
PSKHi,
For implementation area regarding the technical name of the folders, the following rule applies
for storing documents in Knowledge Warehouse folders:
for PROJECTS:
With the exception of template projects, the system stores all documents
in a folder with the technical project name when you create them.
In template projects, the system stores all documents, with the
exception of project documents, in folder SOLAR00. Project documents are
stored in a folder with the technical project name.
for SOLUTIONS:
The system stores all documents in a folder with the technical name of
the solution when you create them.
Check the note 913175 as reference.
Kind Regards,

Are Documents exported or linked from Solution Manager to HP Quality Center
Dear all,
I don't find an answer to this questions out of the documentations of the HP QC neither in the SAP notes.
By example: if I'm marking a project document in a blueprint to be transfered to HP QC, will it be physically copied or will a link (PHIO / LOIO) been created to the content server document and the link will be transferd to the HP QC.
Any help is useful. Thanks in advance.
DetlevLinks are created in QC to the Solution Manager documents; this works fine for files that are actually stored in Solman, however, I am encountering an issue when the Solman doc is a web link. The link in QC produces an error "File does not begin with '%PDF-' and document cannot be viewed

Problem in Application Help Configuration in Solution Manager
Hi Experts,
Here I facing one problem during Application Help configuration..
When I am going through application help for Solman Configuration it's taking me to standard erp help..
Where as in SR13, under PlainHtmlHttp,
In path tab I had given <b>saphelp_sm40/helpdata</b> for solution manager document.
But for other standard t-code it's giving actual application help.
where for SMSY,SOLAR01 etc i am not getting the application help.
Looking for advices.
Thanks & Regards,
Sumanta ChatterjeeDear Sumanta,
This depends on how you want to (or how you can) use this http://help.
sap.com site.
At first you must be aware of the different areas on this site, these
areas have different URL structures, for example:
- http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2004 <<< for mySAP ERP
- http://help.sap.com/saphelp_47x200 <<< for R3 Enterprise
- http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04 <<< for SAP NetWeaver 04
- http://help.sap.com/saphelp_sm32 <<< for SAP Solution Manager 3.2
The main problem is that in the area "http://help.sap.com/saphelp_sm32"
there is only online documentation for the Solution Manager
functionality.
Can you please check the table SBAON_CCHK with transaction SE16.
The following record must exist:
MANDT COMPONENT NAME_EN
xxx ST Solar Help
If this record does not exist, please create this record manually.
This should help resolve the issue.

We are planning to install Solution Manager and have arrived on following configuration based on what we could understand from Sizing tool and guide;
Intel Xeon Quad core with 16 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD - Win 2008 Enterprise-64 bit 25 user and SQL 2008 5 user.
we have around 30 customers sending approx 50 msgs per month.
Can anyone advice us if this is ok. We are from BOBJ background and have no exposure to any other technology of SAP.
Thanks & RegardsDear Mayank.
Thanks for your reply. We arrived at this sizing only after referring to that sizing guide. Main problem is that everywhere all Solution Manager refer to ABAP, SAP modules, BW etc., but there is no reference to Business Objects.
We are basically from Business Objects background and SAP has asked us to install Solution Manager. Though we have raised the case with SAP, there is no help coming. Net Weaver and other SAP terminology used in Solution Manager document is new for us.
We have succeeded in doing Basic installation, we are lost in the post installation steps. Guides available on the portal are not much of help as they are cryptic and there are too many references than clear steps. When you reach the end of references one gets lost and is more confused.
Can you give some help based on your experience? first of all it is not clear to us as how Solution Manager works? SAP guys instead of giving a brief 3-4 sentence answer, send us the same solution manager documents links which we have referred before going to SAP.
Thanks & Regards

Hi Everybody,
we are also using the Solution Manager for storing documents. How is it possible to integrate the Solution Manager within the Portal in order to use the search function from the portal. Our purpose is to search the Solution Manager Documents within the portal through the Trex engine (standalone engine on the portal side).
Is this possible?
Are there also other options for integrating Solution Manager in to Portal?
regards,
Seed
Edited by: seed_mopo on Jul 16, 2008 3:01 PMHi Seed,
as far as I know, SolMan stores the documents in KW. In EP, you can access/integrate types of data sources (Windows CIFS, cFolders, other Webpages, etc). Maybe there is also a way of connecting a KW document store to the portal. When this integration is possible, TREX can access the documents and therefor you can search for SolMan stored documents inside the portal.

View the document in Solution Manager
I am told that there is an option in Solution Manager to have the document generate a link that can be emailed to the approver. This allows the approver to view the document in SM without actually having access to SM. The approver can then reply back to the e-mail with his/her approval after viewing document.
I am new the SM any detailed input with how to steps would really help..
thanks in advance.Hi B_J,
it is correct, each document has attributes, on the attribute tab in the button bar, there is an icon to generate an url for the selected document. This link is stored in your windows clipboard, so you can past this link in an e-mail or wordfile. The person who gets the e-mail must have access to the Solution Manager via network, he needs no personal user in the system. The link used a service of Solution Manager(check in the Solution Manager IMG at the HTTP services). This service requires a user to read the document. If you have no user, then it is necessary that in the system a default user is assigned to the service or to its alias. Now to your second use case, the approval, you can not bring any information INTO Solution Manager, you can only answer the e-mail, with the info, yes the document is OK, but you can not set a status or an other attribute at the document, that the document is approved.

Centralized View for all the Project Document in Solution Manager
we assign roadmap to our Implementation project and as per roadmap we upload different documents for the project(e.g. business case, project charter) at different phases of roadmap. can we see all the documents related to a project from a single centralized view??

Link one solution manager word document into another solution manager HTML
Hi,
I have requirement in solution manager that there are two documents uploaded into solution manager.
1. One word document in one of the project folder
2. HTML page in another folder of same project
I have to set up a hyper link of word document in the HTML web page.
If anyone has gone through this type of requirement, please let me know the details of how did you set up the link between word and HTML document.
Appreciate the early response.
Thanks,
SivaGo to the properties of the file you want to link your word document to. (attributes icon)
There you will find a button "Generate Document URL (F9)". Clicking this button will buffer the URL into clipboard.
Then you open your Word document in edit mode and paste the URL there.
