Solution manager for performance monitoring
Hi,
We have implemented solution manager in our project. Can anyone tell me how is this useful for performance monitoring and how can we check expensive sql statements using this.
It would be helpful if anyone can provide me some documentation on this.
Thanks

Questions on "FAQ - SAP Solution Manager for VARs"
Hi,
I just got through the FAQ - SAP Solution Manager for VARs, but have some further questions:
For me it is not quite clear which connections are necessary for which VAR scenrio.. currently we have setup the service desk in our solman. Customer's aren't linked to the solman yet - we have saprouter-saprouter connections. Connecting them via SAP support backbone is an interesting option, especially for incident management. To get this working we should follow note 1124718 right?
But what about the other scenarios like maintenance optimizer and ewa monitoring? I guess for that we definitly need to build up RFC connections to each relevant customer system (~300+x)?! I think it will be hard to handle so many connections - just consider if a customer is cancalling the maintenance contract, everything needs to be removed again... best would be to have a central communication point...
For MOPZ we need up-to-date system information. So everyone is talking about SLD. Do you also recommend this option? There we need again a connection (direct to SolMan SLD or via external SLD on customer side).
According to the FAQ there is a workaround for ewa monitoring for customers with security doubts.. is this also working for non-ABAP components? We need SMD and WI for generating ewas for JAVA systems...
With regards to Enterprise Support contract: ewa only need to be monitored for productive systems? Can a customer be charged if they want to have ewas monitored for other sytems too? How long do we need to keep the ewas (1 month, 3 months, half year) before they are deleted? Are there any specific requirements?
All the work to get these scenarios working.. is this covered within the Enterprise Support contract? Can the customer be charged for work thats done by the VAR in their system (e.g. RFC connections, SDCCN, SLD,...)?
Sorry for this long text.. hope you have some helpful ideas!
Regards,
RichardHello Richard,
(1) regarding network connections see document [Draft:Technical Support Network Connections for VAR Scenario|http://service.sap.com/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=00200797470000089947&_OBJECT=011000358700000880802009E] as overview and with a lot of detailed information.
(2) yes, you have to setup once all your customer connections at the beginning but then only add/remove with customer contract changes
(3) the workaround by sending by email can handled a anexception. EWA has to be done for productive systems like nowadays done by SAP. Additional EWA services could meas additional business case for a VAR - that's contract between VAR and customer.
(4) whatever you think may be a business to sell - do it ! (and get a monetary bonus from your boss

Preparing Solution Manager for SMD Agents Installation
Hello everyone
I have to configure the Solution Manager of QAS to receive new SMD Agents, I looking at the transaction SOLMAN_SETUP.
Does anybdoy know what do I have to do to prepare the environment for the installation of SMD agents?
ThankHi Marcelo,
Check note 1365123 - Installation of Diagnostics Agents, this note shows the agent installation strategy. You must install one SMD agent per host (physical or virtual) . The SMD agent should be installed in all host you want to monitor.
In order to connect the SMD agent into your Solution check the following WIKI:
http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/SMSETUP/Diagnostics+Agents#DiagnosticsAgents-Connectionoptions
Also, you can managed the SMD agent in the "Agent Administration", it can be found at:
- SOLMAN_WORKCENTER
- Tab Root Cause Analysis
- "Agent Administration"
I recommend you to use the "Direct connection to solution manager" for your agents. It is easier than the SLD registration.

How to configure CTS+ for Solution Manager for XI 3.0
Hi ,
We are working on XI 3.0 SP 20 and Doing a file system based transport of .TPZ files. We observed that there is a possibilit of misssing the objects while tranporting. So we are planning to set CTS+ with our Solution Manager.
Question:
1. Can we configure CTS+ through the latest version of Solution Manager for XI 3.0 landscape?
If Yes .. How? If No... Why?
2. Is there any way to make the the transport automated like ABAP tranports.
If there is.... Please send the link or documents..
Thanks
ManojHi Venkat,
Thank you for the Demo. The Demo gives me information about the CTS+ setup. I am looking for the compatability of CTS+ for XI 3.0.
We have Solution Manager 7.1 setup in place.
Please let us know if we can setup CTS+ on solution Manager (7.01 EHP1) and use it to transport XI 3.0 SP20 IR/ID objects across the XI landscape.

One Solution Manager for different customers
Hi Guys!!
I am configuring a Solution Manager for different customers wich have a different S-users and different users to manage the solution manager system.
My problem is that there is only one SAP-OSS RFC destination where I can fill the data only for one of the S-users. From "solution_manager" transaction you can indicate the S-user too (Edit - Global Settings) but the same problem occurs, I can fill the gap only with one S-user and I have to change this one when I want to work with different S-user.
Can i configure the system to indicate different S-users depens on the user who I use to logon to solution manager system?
Thank you very much in advanced,
Edorta.Hi Edorta,
you did not mention, which scenarios do you plan to use.
Functionality to use the SolMan for many customer numbers is already available or will be added in future Support Package Stacks.
It has been already added for
- Maintenance Optimizer
Note 1021275 - Maintenance Optimizer: RFC Destinations for Partners
- Forwarding SAP Messages (with different S-Users resp. customers)
IMG: Solution Manager -> Scenario-Specific Settings -> Service Desk -> Value Added Reseller
Check for SAP Notes on component SV-SMG* with key word "VAR" (as Valued Added Reseller), "Service Provider"

Is it a must to use Solution manager for ECC 6.0 upgrade
Is it a must to use Solution Manager for ECC 6.0 (FICO & HR) upgrade? I am told Solution Manager is required only if it has ABAP and JAVA stacks, or involves Enhancement Packages; and could be optional if it is only ECC 6.0 with ABAP stacks.
Hi,
I'm having a difficult time finding some guidance for setting up our R/3 Enterprise system in solman properly, so that I can create the upgrade XML file required to go directly to ERP 6.0 EHP4.
I've set up the R/3 system fine, but when i create a maintenance transaction i cannot for the life of me figure out how to tell it I want to go from r/3 to ERP6 ehp4.
Any docs out there for this?
Thanks!
I figured it out... i had to add the R/3 Enterprise logical components to my system landscape. After that I was able to select R/3 as the initial data in the maintenance transaction and then the system i wanted to upgrade, and then the option to upgrade.
Never mind!

I have to use solution manager for an SAP BI/BW implementation. The BW client is currently in SAPERP 2005 (ECC 6.0). Is is possible to use solution manager in the same system or should the BI/BW be implemented in NetWeaver for implementing solution manager.
Thanks,
Neha.Hi Neha,
I am not sure, whether I understand your question correctly.
- SAP ERP 2005 (ECC 6.0) and SAP Solution Manager 4.0 are separate installations, each will get their own system id.
They might share the same hardware, depending on your hardware capacity.

I already configured my EWA (SDCCN), but then I realize that EWA need Solution Manager to run.
I need to know how to install Solution Manager for my EWA? Do I need to install in separate server? Or there are others option for me to consider?
Pls help me to figure this outHello Hazha!
I don't know how you can configure in SDCCN an EWA session without the Solution Manager, but if you did so, you can send your EWA data to sap, where they will be processed and where you can find them in your inbox.
You need a well functioning SAPOSS RFC destination (TA OSS1).
SDCCN -> Goto -> Settings -> Task Specific
You will get a window with a tree list. Open RFC-Destinations -> Settings and click on the settings icon.
In Dialog RFC destinations, Tab Destinations you might click on the Info-Icon (botton) and you will get documentation. Click now on the Change Icon.
You will now get a new icon "Create destination to SAP OSS". Please use it, it should generate the destination SDCC_OSS.
Please test the destination.
Now you can insert this RFC-destination into the task attributes of your EWA-Session, system-id should be O01.
Bye
PS.
You might also have a look at the documentation at http://service.sap.com/ewa -> Media Library

Need help in Solution Manager for preparing for Career in SM
Hi Gurus,
This is Amit Choudhary here,i am in SAP BW and and new to SM,so wants to work in Solution manager as i got chance to work with EWA reports and found this is quite interesting so, is there any one can help me in learning more about SM so that i can get onto right track.
Waiting for the feedback on this.
Looking forward for ur valuable inputs and help.
Thanks in advance.

AmitHi Amit,
SAP Service Support Portal provide several information on SAP Solution Manager for customers. It requires an "S-User" for access.

Hi
Can Configuration Manager provide a way to find the data transfer from client to Configuration Manager for health monitoring and hardware Inventory. How can I know what amount of data is consumed during that processPlace archive_reports.sms in %systemroot%\ccm\inventory\temp\ for both 64-bit and 32-bit computers.
There are two situations where you can use this depending on the type of client:
1. To keep inventory reports on a client (that is not an MP), create the following file:
%systemroot%\ccm\inventory\temp\archive_reports.sms
2. To keep inventory reports on a MP (that is also a client), create the following file:
<x>:\sms_ccm\inventory\temp\archive_reports.sms
The XML file will be saved in the inventory\temp folder.

Solution Manager for Implementation project
Hello,
I want to know how we should use solution manager for an implementation project. I am aware about the ASAP methods and the transactions in solman system for each phase. I have starting trouble like how to and where to start with? My ECC systems are not yet installed. Still we can go ahead with Blueprint creation and definition of roadmaps etc. Currently, it is done on paper. If anybody has done an implementation project through solution manager, could you please give me some hints how to start ? I repeat I am aware of the transactions but dont know what to add there in solar01/02 when the process are not defined/system not installed. Please guide me.
RajeevHi Rajeev,
You're correct; you can start building the Business Blueprint without SMSY having all the systems that are 'to-be'. As long as you enter logical components in the project landscape with the correct product versions, you can replace those with the actual components once they have been installed. The BPR needs those product versions in the blueprint when you load the relevant scenario's. Once loaded, you can start documenting the scenario's, place the processes and process steps not used out of scope or delete them entirely and define custom scenario's, processes and process steps.
When the Blueprint has been completed with relevant design documentation, the Configuration transaction can be used to document how you actually configure the systems and, of course, to configure them from Solution Manager. The system landscape officially has to be definitive at the end of the Blueprint phase, unless you won't be configuring the systems centrally from Solution Manager.
The Solution is actually not necessary for a clean implementation; the Project will eventually lead to the solution. Once the systems are all configured and documented in SSM, you create the Solution and upload the project documentation into it in the Solution Directory.
Let us know how you get on!
Kind regards,
Patrick -
