Solution Manager install
Hi,
I just wanted to double check with SAP regarding the installation of
Solution Manager 3.2
1. Is there a hard and fast rule that the Sloution Manager needs to be
installed on a server with Fully Qualified domain name.
2. Is it a requirement that Solution Manager needs to be installed on a
seperate server and cannot be installed on a SAP development or
production server or any other system with ECC installed.
Please let me know
Thanks
Mikir

Hi Mikir,
Agree with Pascal, you probably should consider install SolMan 4.0 instead of 3.2.
1. Yes, you need make sure to use FQDN everywhere possible. Many notes -- 677118, 434918 has stated on this.
2. You can install SM on the same server with other instance. I just implemented a SolMan 4.0 production instance on one of our BW server. In one SQL Server instance, two separate databases. It seems no problem at all.
Thanks,
Yujun

Solution Manager Install on Windows/MSSQL-Dev/QA/Production R/3 on AIX-UNIX
Hello,
We are about to install Solution Manager Install on Windows/MSSQL. Our current R/3 4.7 Enterprise environments (Dev/QA/Production) are installed on AIX-UNIX servers running Oracle 9i.
Is installing Solution Manager on a windows environment compatible with our R/3 servers in relationship to our transportation management system existing in a UNIX environment? i.e. can Solution Manager on windows control transports across our UNIX landscape?
If so, could someone point me in the direction of documentation/notes on this?
Thanks,
LaurieYou will have to load the Unicode kernel and here is the link to OSS where you can get get the download of SOLMAN for AS/400
https://websmp110.sap-ag.de/solutionmanager , then choose this one: ZIP 51033506_7 NW 7.0 SR3 UC-Kernel 7.00 OS/400 Info 550479 24.04.2008 .
The install manuals are out there as well. -
Somewhat lost on Solution manager install
We have a four system landscape running SAP4.6C (Dev,Qas,Sbx and PRD). I need to get Solution Manager installed - at this time we only are doing it for monitoring, key generation and SP's. Can you install a solman 4.0 in a 4.6c environment? In a test install, and reading that I have to put it in the transport domain - but you should never have transports going from one version to another. We are planning an upgrade within the next six months.
So do I install Solman 4.0, and if so how do I connect to the other systems?Hi,
Yes you can have SOLMAN 4.0 for 4.6c As far as connection goes, its simple as you do in SMSY.
Feel free to revert back.

Solution Manager Install Error
Hi All,
I'm trying to to a clean install of Solution Manager 4 on Windows Enterprise Server 2003 SP1, SQL Server 2005 SP1.
I've run the Pre-Installation Check and all is OK.
At Step 10 of 42, Create/modify database schema I'm getting an error:
ERROR 2006-09-22 17:01:59
FCO-00011 The step CreateDatabase with step key |NW_Onehost|ind|ind|ind|ind|0|0|NW_Onehost_System|ind|ind|ind|ind|1|0|NW_CreateDBandLoad|ind|ind|ind|ind|9|0|NW_CreateDB|ind|ind|ind|ind|0|0|NW_MSS_DB|ind|ind|ind|ind|2|0|MssSchemaCreate|ind|ind|ind|ind|9|0|CreateDatabase was executed with status ERROR .
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance,
NicWe resolved the problem.
Problem:
Installation of 7.0 using MaxDb on Windows x64 hangs on the sapinst at the step CreateDbSchema..
There is no error in the installation log.
We are using the specified JDK (JAVA development kit) as specified by OSS Note 723909 which is downloaded from a special website of SUN.com.
We have tried uninstalling the other versions of the JDK build and tried other builds.
Solution:
By searching message boards for the specific error CreateDbSchema, one of the threads mentioned that passwords for MaxDb can't have special characters. Searching OSS yielded a Note 674430 which confirmed that installing on MaxDb has to use alpha-numeric. We were using an @. We dropped the database and deleted the user so it would be a clean install, and ran again using a different password. Some other cleanup was done too, but we suspect it was the password. -
Error during final phase of solution manager install
Hello all...
I have run into a problem in the last step of the solution manager installation. From the dump below it seems to be trying to locate the jperflib and can't find it...
Any help is greatly appreciated and points will be rewarded. BTW, we have already implemented note 1094628 and it still fails...
Thanks!
Joe

Why do we install Solution Manager on Different Server
Hi Everybody,
Please if anybody can help in clearing the doubt that why it is advisable to install Solution Manager on Different Server.
Thanks in advance!!
PawanThanks Juan. Got the answer.
Infact i was reading somewhere and got these points -
SAP Solution Manager is designed to run in a central u2018monitoringu2019 system at the customer site where all other SAP systems and mySAP solutions (satellite systems) are connected:
u2022 The entire Solution Landscape can be documented (u2018living documentu2019) in a central system (in fact several Solution Landscapes can be managed)
u2022 SAP and Non-SAP Systems can be modeled
u2022 All core business processes can be graphically assigned to all available productive systems in a solution landscape
u2022 All connected SAP systems can be monitored by the central SAP Solution Manager system
u2022 Satellite systems submit data via RFC / agents into the central system
u2022 The system with the SAP Solution Manager installed has a connection to SAPNet R/3 Frontend and the SAP Service Marketplace to communicate with SAP Support Back Office
The SAP Solution Manager serves as a platform that includes several features in one application. The strength of the SAP Solution Manager is the strong integration into the mySAP.com Solution and the optimal knowledge transfer SAP-Partner-Customer including central monitoring features, mainly focusing on core business processes. However, additional features and tools (Support Desk, SAP Note Assistant, MS NetMeeting,u2026) that are integrated in the SAP Solution Manager, also play important roles within a customeru2019s solution management.
It is important to understand that it is not necessary or useful to always have all integrated SAP Solution Manager components installed on one system. For example it is possible to install the SAP Solution Manager on one system and connect to another System where the Support Desk is installed. The SAP Solution Manager then only serves as a portal to jump to the included Support Desk system without notice.
If the customeru2018s main focus is the management of core business processes through service roadmaps and monitoring via SAP EarlyWatch Alert, Service Level Management (reporting) and so on, SAP recommends the SAP Web Application Server as the best choice for the SAP Solution Manager installation as it is also the platform for the SAP Solution Architect and has fairly small hardware requirements. -
Solution Manager vs Enterprise Solution Manager
Dear All,
We already have solution manager installed in our SAP System landscape.
But a visiting consultant give a new word to managers about enterprise solution manager with following benefits.
1-If we have enterprise solution manager then SAP AG can access our system and inform us about system health.
2-If we have enterprise solution manager then SAP AG will react on our ticket not on what we send but on the the actual actual condition of system.
3-We can only utilize our support services in a right way if we have enterprise solution manager.
1- Now first where I can check that the installed solution manager is standard or enterprise?
2- The benefit which is listed above is really available in enterprise solution manager?
3- Any tutorial or link defining how to install and configure enterprise solution manager.
Any response will be highly appreciated

How to remove Production System from Solution manager.
Hi All,
We have Three system landscape and solution manager installed.
All the system are managed by Solution manager.
here we are looking to remove the Production System from Solution manager.
as in case if is there any problem in solution manager then we are not dependent on it.
things will work directly on Production system.
Could you please let us know the procedure to remove the system from solution manager.
Please let us know if is there any document provided by SAP.Hi,
Have you implemented charm, ccms monitoring or any other functionalities?
if yes,.Delete the sytem from tms domain. and TR route needs to be adjusted, if you are using ccms, remove the agent details from RZ21 also.
Does your production system data coming from SLD?
if yes, Delete the entry from SLD
if both the answer is no.
1.delete RFC from SOLMAN to the production systems.
2. delete the production system using SMT2 transaction.
3. Remove system rom SMSY from SOLMAN.
Thanks,

Process for applying for Solution Manager Key?
I have to install a NW2004s system in a AIX Machine.
I understand that i need a solution manager key for installation. We dont have solution Manager installed in our Landscape. But i came to know that i can request for a solution manager key from SAP
Please let me know the website, process for applying for Solution Manager keyBalaji,
This is interesting, SAP is pushing customers to have solution Manager installed with features like Solution Manager Key, Maintainance Optimizer etc. It will get difficult for customers who do not have solution Manager running on their site.
You will have to create support message under the component XX-SER-SMKEY and request for solution manager key, provide them all the details of your system.

Solution Manager on 32-Bit for ECC-6
Hi Gurus,
We need to bring our 32-Bit ECC-6 system on EhP4 as soon as possible.
From installtion documents I found that its two step installation. First install EhP3 and then EhP4 using SAINT.
To install EhP we need use Solution Manager. Currently we dont have Solution Manager installed. Our first step would be installing Solution Manager. There are two options available:
1. SAP Solution Manager 7.0 including SAP Enhancement Package 1.
2. SAP Solution Manager 7.0.
As everywhere its written we can not install solution manager on 32-bit but some some threads say we can do.
Confirm that Solution Manager 7 cannot be installed on a 32-bit windows sys
Assuming that we can still install Solution manage on 32 bit, first we need to install EhP3, which solution manager version should we use 1 or 2?
Thanks in advance
Regards
Shreeshail Ganiger
Edited by: ssganiger on Nov 5, 2009 6:48 AMHi Shreeshail,
Please use opton 1. This way you can choose to install either EHP3 or EHP4 (as your case maybe).
Also, you wouldn't need to upgrade solman to ehp1, as ehp1 comes with a lot of corrections which otherwise you will have to manually implement on a Solution Manager 7.0 system.
Cheers

Solution Manager: Connection via Service Connection???
Hello,
I would like to connect the solution manager with a customer system via an exististing service connection, there is no solution manager installed on the customer's system. Is this possible? Is it possible to find any documentation about this?
Regards,
BrittaHello,
You can run TCD DSWP
Then clcik the Solution Landscape button
Then Clcik the Service Connection link
Then click the Solution Manager drop down menu and select setup connection
Then fill in the details:
Product System
Description
Installation Number
Systen ID
System Number
Service Connection type
The support Service Connection types are reference at http://service.sap.com/connectiontypes and for each connection type the corresponding Note is provided.
This setup will allow you to create service connections to OSS on Solution Manager
Once you have setup the connection you will still navigate to Service Connections, only you will use the Connection Drop down menu button to select Open Connection.

Earlywatch On 4.6B with No Solution Manager
Hi all,
We are running a 4.6B with no solution manager installed. Is there any possible way to do the early watch without Solution manager?Sorry,
But you have to do your own part of the work or you will never learn anything.
Don't ask to be spoon fed.
Use the SAP standard menu, experiment and you will find all the needed transactions by yourself...

Install Solution Manager in RedHat Enterprise 6 with Oracle 11
Hello ,
In the marketplace-PAM, RedHat Enterprise 6 is not listed as approved for EHP1 Solution Manager 7.0 64 bit (unicode) with Oracle.
Does anyone have any information on this subject?
Has anyone installed the Solution Manager 7.0/Oracle with RedHat Enterprise 6?
tksYes, you are correct. Apart from PAM, following Note confirms this. RHEL 6 is not supported yet for Oracle, is in planning stage.
