Solution Manager instance install with on differnt platform than ERP system

Hello,
I am working on a project to implement Solution Manager 7.0 in our landscape (SAP 4.7).  Our current servers are running on HP-UX 11 with Oracle 9.4.0.2 database.  We are considering implementing SolMan on a different OS (Linux & Windows the primary candidates, the DB is yet to be determined, but will likely be Oracle 10 or MS SQL) that will allow for easier monitoring for the existing admins.  I have heard that if an instance is created on a platfor other than the typy we're already using, that SAP requires an expensive "certification" of this platform that will be added to the existing system. I have heard numbers in the $100,000 range for this, possibly per server.  Is this true, and where can I find more information on this subject?
Thank you in advance for your prompt response.

Hi Tom, in SAP that's call Heterogeneous system landscape. You should read this note Note 1067221 - Composite note for heterogeneous installation for mor information about it.
About the "certification" I don't think that's true, because SAP has been working on this from many years.
Hope this could help.
Regards,
Darwin

  • Setup and Configuration for a Solution Manager instance

I am setting up a  Solution Manager instance for a client in Australia.
Currently there is no reference client that I am aware of in Australia for Solution Manager.  So this is extremely important to get it right.  Also I am an independent contractor, so I am unable to call on any in-house experts from a consulting firm for help.
So I am looking for answers from some experts who have done this before.
Had some training on Solution Manager back in 2002.
Our client wants to setup the solution manager instance to monitor 9 SAP instances
    - 3 R/3, DEV, Q/A, PROD
    - 3 BI, DEV, Q/A, PROD
    - 3 Enterprise Portal, DEV, Q/A, PROD
Solution Manager is running in a separate instance for all those listed above.
In addition to the above the client would also like to user the service desk function of Solution Manager for in-house support of SAP, and push to service desk request onto their support partner and/or SAP directly.
    Question:
    1) Is it better to use the Solution Manager client 001 or create a separate client for the customer?
    2) How would you as the expert configure the service desk component to push service desk requests to the support partner (a 3rd party Service Desk Tool or another Solution Manager instance), and allow the customer to choose to send the request direct to SAP?
    3) The client would also like to use the Solution Manager Instance as the CUA environment, is this advisable?
    Kind Regards
    David Cooper

    Hello David,
    Please find th answers below:
    1. You should use  a separate client for solution manager rather than using a standard one
    2. You should configure your solution manager as the service desk for all type of support requests.Solution manager can send your requests to SAP and vice-vera.Why do you a third part tool and waste money of the client.Solution manager can do all for you very effectively
3.sure you should configure solution manager as CUA environment, there are no issues with that
Let me know of any questions
    Rohit

  • Solution Manager Instance

    Hi
I am installing a demo box - so not production, and I have no other SAP installs. I want to install and configure SAP BI and Portal and I need Solution Manager within my landscape. How can I install all these onto the same server?
I understand that I cannot install Solution Manager and EP in the same instance, so do I install Solution Manager first and then start a new install for BI and EP - this then becomes a difference instance?
If there is documentation on this then please point me to it, because the Master Guide and Installation Guides for these do not tell me?
    Thanks
    Al.

    Hello Al,
Yes you have to give a different sid for that instance...since it's a different instance .
Please appreciate with points if its helpful.
    Regards,
    Jafer

  • Solution Manager Diagnostics install problem

I am trying to install SMD on a NW04 SP16 system (also running ABAP+java for XI).  After deployment for the SP16 SMD version, when I log on to SMD admin screen, I cannot run the Upgrader - error indicates "cannot get the current version from ComponentInfoLib".  Also when I click on "Release Information", it also cannot display the current version.  I also tried to install the SMD version SP13 and SP14 with the same basic problem (it is not reading the version info).
Any idea on where I can look to resolve this problem.

To add on to the first post, I found this entry in the trace logs:

  • Is a clean install with target mode better than upgrade?

Hi, is it better to do a clean install of Leopard and then transfer my files through an external fw drive or do just doing a plain upgrade? I ask because I know how much smoother and snappier a system is with a clean install but I do need to transfer all my files somehow. Thanks

I haven't gone to Leopard yet (my copy is allegedly due here sometime today or tomorrow) but I did an upgrade install on my home Macs for every new version of the OS since, well, forever. In the past there have been times when there was a problem, but few of them, and all cured by an archive install. I have never done an erase install.
    YMMV.

  • Can you install logic pro on more than one system?

How many systems can you install logic pro onto?

I believe via the AppStore you get 5 licences. For the whole family.

  • Problem with Solution Manager wanting to adjust its own instance

I have a situation where under my landscape components --> systems in SMSY where I have a "yellow" exclamation point in a box that says "newer version exists" for my existing solution manager.  When I try to adjust, it doesn't let me select the system because they are on the same host.  Therefore, I can't do the adjustment.  What is the problem?  Any ideas how I can do this adjustment?  Thanks.  This is very important.  Thanks.,

Thanks Ragu.  I've dug a little deeper and this is what is happening when I try to assign the Solution Manager instance to a logical component:
    I receive an "instance
adjustment required" message for the actual solution manager instance
itself, so I had to manually set the product and set it to leading as
leading (even though there was no other solution manager instance).
This means that the solution manager system itself is set to manual
adjustment.  I've gotten it to read from the SLD, but it is still acting as though it is missing a NetWeaver ABAP Server on the same host as the Solution Manager.
Here is what I do to get the above issue to reproduce:
I've done more trouble shooting and found that if I go to installed product versions in the Solution Manager System and click on Clean-up Inconsistencies, I get
the attached screenshot showing that a Product SAP NetWeaver with main instance "Application Server ABAP" is inconsistent (on the same server as the Solutiion Manager instance, the Solutioni Manager instance doesn't show up in the System landscape either). Cleaning up the inconsistency doesn't fix the problem (leaves Application Server ABAP) in place.  Meaning when I try to fix the inconsistency it won't let me.  Thanks for any help, I really need to figure this out.  Thanks.

    Thanks Juan. Got the answer.
Infact i was reading somewhere and got these points -
SAP Solution Manager is designed to run in a central u2018monitoringu2019 system at the customer site where all other SAP systems and mySAP solutions (satellite systems) are connected:
u2022 The entire Solution Landscape can be documented (u2018living documentu2019) in a central system (in fact several Solution Landscapes can be managed)
u2022 SAP and Non-SAP Systems can be modeled
u2022 All core business processes can be graphically assigned to all available productive systems in a solution landscape
u2022 All connected SAP systems can be monitored by the central SAP Solution Manager system
u2022 Satellite systems submit data via RFC / agents into the central system
u2022 The system with the SAP Solution Manager installed has a connection to SAPNet R/3 Frontend and the SAP Service Marketplace to communicate with SAP Support Back Office
The SAP Solution Manager serves as a platform that includes several features in one application. The strength of the SAP Solution Manager is the strong integration into the mySAP.com Solution and the optimal knowledge transfer SAP-Partner-Customer including central monitoring features, mainly focusing on core business processes. However, additional features and tools (Support Desk, SAP Note Assistant, MS NetMeeting,u2026) that are integrated in the SAP Solution Manager, also play important roles within a customeru2019s solution management.
It is important to understand that it is not necessary or useful to always have all integrated SAP Solution Manager components installed on one system. For example it is possible to install the SAP Solution Manager on one system and connect to another System where the Support Desk is installed. The SAP Solution Manager then only serves as a portal to jump to the included Support Desk system without notice.
If the customeru2018s main focus is the management of core business processes through service roadmaps and monitoring via SAP EarlyWatch Alert, Service Level Management (reporting) and so on, SAP recommends the SAP Web Application Server as the best choice for the SAP Solution Manager installation as it is also the platform for the SAP Solution Architect and has fairly small hardware requirements.

  • Solution manager with EP , Abap and java stack

i am planning to install Solution Manager 4.0 with Oracle 10G. in win2003 . Along with ..can i install EP,JAVA and Abap (netweaver) in the same server with MCOD??

avoid MCOD in environments where the systems do not have any transactional relations.
this is exactly the case between SOLman and any other SAP System.
Solman should not be installed on production servers use development or qa systems, use 64 bit.

  • How to install both solution manager and ECC Development on same server

    Hi All,
Can anyone help me how to install Solution Manager and ECC Development on same server and also whether SLD is required? if yes, then how to setup.
    Pls let me know.
    Regards,
    Karthik

    Hi Karthik,
I try to answer you message, my answer may not be sufficient for you.
Install SAP Solution Manager and ECC development as separate systems sharing the same server. So each system will get it's own system id and installation number.
    Verify sizing of both systems.
SLD is not mandatory for a SAP Solution Manager. If a SLD already exist in your System Landscape, you can connect SMSY (System Landscape) in transaction SMSY_SETUP with a SLD. Information on System will then be retrieved from SLD, rather via an RFC.

  • Adding systems with same SID in SMSY - solution manager

    Dear All,
We are having systems with same SID's which  belongs to different landscape created for various customers.
Currently We are having only one solution manager.
I consider this example for explanation.
    Customer 1 : DEV --> QAS --> PRD ( SID's)
    customer 2 :  DEV --> ACC --> PRD  ( SID's)
I would like to add  these 6 systems in a solution manager. For Customer 1 , I have included the systems in SMSY . But when i tries to add DEV, PRD for customer 2 , it fails  since this SID's are already present.
Is there any other way to include by giving the different SID's DE2 but with correct IP and host Or we need to have one more solution manager ? Please anyone suggest me on this
    Thanks
    Raj

    Dear Juan ,
We can add systems with same SID in smsy. I have attached the way in which i have done. This may help others. Thank you all for your suggestion
Only use more than three characters if your landscape contains multiple systems with the same system ID (if you have a mirrored backup system that has the same ID as the original system, for example).
If multiple systems in your landscape have the same system ID, choose as system name the system ID with a suffix of up to 5 characters (a sequential number, for example) to create a unique system name.
The system accepts a system name of more than 3 characters if you choose Enter to confirm.
    Thanks
    Raj
