Solution Manager instead of Knowledge Warehouse?

Hi!
We work today with Knowledge Warehouse (Version: 6200.600.144) to manage user guides and connect the user guides with R/3 via transactions. As we are upgrading SAP-GUI to 7.10 our version of KW stops to work with R/3. This means in the current situation that the person administering user guides in KW can not upgrade its GUI, which is unsustainable in the long run. It also means that KW does not work with our solution with Citrix/Metaframe.
Therefore think we should take hold of this and focus on the possibility of using Solman as a possible replacement for KW. Is it at all possible to manage user guides in Solman? Can Solman generate html pages? Can Solman make same bindings via R/3 with transactions as our version of KW?
We do not want to upgrade KW.
What are your recommendations if Solman is not an option?
Sincerely
Jesper Sandberg

    Hi,
It's a good idea, but currently it's not yet supported.
In Work Center, there is no predefined (nor a hidden) link shipped by SAP to access the Solution Database for key users.
With a future EhP for Solution Manager, you might get an integration of the Solution Database into the message processing Web UI.

  • Lotus Notes documents migration into Solution Manager

We have been using Lotus notes application for maintaining only documentation in our landscape. But now, the plan is to move all the documentation from Lotus notes to SAP Solution Manager and use it as a document management system from now....
Could anyone please answer the following queries:
    1) Does LSX environment help/enhance the migration ?. If not, are there any tools/accelerators/functions/automatic methods for mas uploading?
    2) This documentation is not project specific documentation. Where do you think this must go in Solution Manager?
In the custom area of BPR?. If yes, please do let me know the procedure for the same.
    3) Would it be possible to link the documents to functional domains/ business scenarios/ business processes in the BPR?
    4) Lotus notes provides access to all the versions (Draft/Approved/Reviewed) of a document. Would it be possible to have the same features even in Solution Manager?
    5) What all document types does Solution Manager recognize?.
I think the Lotus notes documents can be converted to 'Word' format and then put in Solution Manager. Besides this, is there any other common format which is recognized by both the tools?
    6) Standard SAP Solution manager does not provide indexed search. So, in order to retrieve a document later what indexing nomenclature/guidelines do you recommend?
Has anyone done/faced with this kind of requirement. The idea now is to use Solution manager as a document management system. The efforts/process/timelines information if already known would be of great help to start with for us....
Could you also provide the trade offs b/n Solution Manager and SAP knowledge warehouse (KW)?
    Hoping for some replies ...

we also had the same requirement to migration from LN to SolMan Documentation base but there is no such tool (yet?)
What you can do you can migrate from any ARIS like platform to SolMan:
    http://en.sap.info/ids-scheer-announces-migration-program-to-aris-platform/4058
You do have versioning in SolMan and you can upload any kind of document via SOLAR01
regarding the indexing you can either use SAP SES or connect TREX, this is documented in the customizing (SPRO)
TREX will also be the prerequisite to make use of KM in SolMan

  • Solution Manager project export / import

    Hi,
is there any possibility to export the project files from Solution Manager, change some data in an other program and then import them back to solution manager? This whole import/export process should work automatically.
The entire thing is to avoid that the users have to work with the Solution Manager instead of their usual and well known programs for project management.

    Hi Andreas,
Currently there is no possibility to perform this.

    Hello Radhey,
I would suggest you take advantage of the documentation and simulations available in the Solution Manager Ramp -Up Knowledge Transfer area - http://service.sap.com/rkt-solman.
The areas are broken down by  section and links  such as Overview Build, Config, Deploy, Operation, Optimization, etc are provided. There are many hours of tutorials.

  • Difference between Knowledge Management and Knowledge Warehouse

    Hello All,
Could you pls help me with the differences between <b>Knowledge Management and Knowledge Warehouse</b> and their relative advantages over each other.
Also, if possible pls help with me some documents about Knowledge Warehouse.
    My mail id :[email protected]
    Regards,
    venkat.

    Hello,
KMC (Knowledge Manageent and Collaboration) is the SAP EPs functionality for providing a central approach to a companies unstructured and distributet document storages and informations.
KW (Knowledge Warehouse) is meant for documentation, training materials and (quality-management) manuals.
Since NW04s, both functionalities are part of the IT scenario "enterprise knowledge management".
There's always a lot of misunderstanding about which functionality is provided by which tool, hopefully, the two will be merged into one functionality, but this might be only my opinion.
For further questions concerning KW, you can as well contact me directly, this forum is mainly for KMC.

  • Solution Manager and Content Server / KW

    Hey guys,
Im supposed to assess the advantages of using a content server instead of the database used by SolMan to store documents.
Found some articles about connecting the content server but got confussed about the whole knowledge warehouse thing that seems somehow to be integrated in SolMan.
Apparently that's a different Version of the KW, providing a change history but lacking some other features. Found e.g.  this document here: [Solution Manager and SAP KW Documents |http://help.sap.com/saphelp_sm40/helpdata/EN/a4/4f691faacf423db80f286787c5a527/content.htm]
Can someone give me an overview about what's possible by using these two things togehter?
It's been kind of hard to find some good infos and I'm relatively new to that topic (especially the KW thing), so I really hope you guys can help me.

    Hello LuongDK,
Please refer to the FAQ section on http://service.sap.com/solutionmanager, Check the installations section:
Which system should I use to install SAP Solution Manager?
The system has to be dedicated to the SAP Solution Manager. No other components can be installed on top of SAP Solution Manager.
SAP Solution Manager does not necessarily require separate hardware. It can be installed as a separate instance on an existing hardware.
This means that the hardware can be shared if it is sufficient to support 2 systems. However a MCOD option is not recommended at all.

  • Office 2007 Document Attaching in Solution Manager

    Dear Gurus,
When document attaching in Solution Manager 7.01, the system does not support Microsoft Office 2007 formats. (docx, xlsx) Are there any customizing for this topic?
    Thank you,

    Hi,
Thanks, in lieu with your detailed system message, please try with this
The warning is because the file extension docx is not known for the
system. All the known extension is defined in table SDOKMIME by standard
. And customer can extend it in table SDOKMIME_C.
Actually that is only a warning message, which will not block the
following up processing. The docx file will be attached if you click on
the green tick. And the file can be previewed and checked later on.
If you would like to get rid of this warning anyway, you may extend the
customer table using the following step:
    -spro->SAP Customizing Implementation Guide
    ->SAP NetWeaver->Knowledge Management
->Settings in the Knowledge Warehouse System
    ->Document Management Service
->Define MIME Type for File Name Extension
    -add an entry like
    File name extension = docx
MIME type of a Web object = application/vnd.openxmlformats
After everything has been done as above, please retry to attach, it should help.
    Cheers,
    sh

  • Solution Manager generated link

    Hello,
Solution Manager has a "generate" button that generates a URL for documents within the Solution Manager structure.
Below is an example of a URL that are generated from Solution Manager.

<b><i>Do you know where within Solution Manager the table is located?</i></b>
    Many Thanks,
    Jay

    Hi Jay,
you are looking for the table where the document is
stored? Well, i have not found it yet but in my opinion
it has to be somewhere in the knowledge warehouse.
The tables SA01PHIO (physical information object -
document versions) and SA01LOIO (logical information
object - document attributes within the structure e.g.
SOLAR01/SOLAR02) contain the document attributes such as
    creation date and GUID etc.
Hint: Look at the others SA01* tables.

  • Download of multiple documents from Solution Manager

Is there a way to download multiple documents from Solution Manager SOLAR01 project documentation tabs from multiple nodes rather than going one by one?

    Hi,
At the application there is no such functionality but I belive if you try to download it directly from knowledge warehouse, you'll be able. You'll just need to pay attention to which folder is stored the documents. For this check the wiki page for documents in solar01 and solar02.

  • Define a Multi Language Roadmpa in Solution Manager

    Hi gurus.
How can I define a multi language roadmap in Solution Manager?
I'm defining a roadmap using the RMAUTH transaction, but I've just defined the roadmap in English.
I need to have the roadmap in two more languages...   What is the procedure to built it?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Elaine,
the text that is displayed in the structure can have two different sources:
    1. If no document is assigned or if the flag 'Name copied from assigned topic, if there is one' is not set the texts are read from
table IATNODE01T. To translate this table you need to know the corresponding table keys. There's a tree ID which is the same for the
whole roadmap and a node ID that is unique for each structure element.
To find out these IDs call the roadmap authoring tool (RMAUTH) and select a node. then type 'NODE_INFO' into the ok-code field (on the top left just under the menu) and press enter. A popup with the node information opens. The structure ID corresponds to the TREE_ID in table IATNODE01T and the Node ID is the NODE_ID.
    2. If a topic document is assigned and the mentioned flag is set (which is the standard) the text that is displayed will be taken from the title of the assigned document. The translation of the document is possible in the Knowledge Warehouse (transaciotn SI80). There you can find the documents in the folder they are assigned to. Normally all documents of one roadmap are saved in one folder.
If you are not sure about the folder name you can look it up in the roadmap authoring environment RMAUTH. Select the relevant structure element and choose 'Document Attributes' at the document display on the right side. Then select 'Display' to open a popup that contains the folder name of the topic document.
I hope this information helps to translate the roadmap.
    Kind regards,
    Fabricius

  • How to export all documents of a Solution Manager Project?

    Hello,
I am currently trying to export all documents that exist inside a Solution Manager project (which documents these are, I can see via SI80 -> select project). That means, I need to export between 300 and 7000 documents from SAP to a MS Windows directory.
Is there any way to do this automatically?
    My approaches so far:
    1) Use the "Knowledge Workbench" tool to connect to the Knowledge Warehouse of the Solution Manager and "check out" all documents to the specific project.
Problem: The resulting local folder structure is horrifying and all documents are not named by their titles as seen in SAP, but named after the template that was used to create them. So flattening the folder structure would result in many, many name collisions.
    2) Using SOLAR02 to get an overview over all documents via "Environment->Project Analysis->Assignments->Documentation", and selecting everything.
Problem: I found no download option here, only some kind of overview over all documents.
    The forum threads:
[Re: download all document in SOLAR01]
    [Mass download of documents from SM to PC;
    didn't help either.
    I would appreciate any help.
    Thanks!

    Hello Andreas,
You might take a peak at this link
    Export of SOLMAN-project
SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN can also copy documentation, plus there is more information on  SAP Knowledge Workbench.
Using it for the first time is a bit cryptic so they recommend reading the SAP Notes 336968 , 196078 and 817529.
    erhaps worth a view?

This decision also highlights the close alignment and joint go-to-market strategy of these two products.
The renaming of SAP Solution Manager 4.0 to SAP Solution Manager 7.0 is a name change only, therefore the SAP Solution Manager functionality, release schedule, installations, or other technical aspects of SAP Solution Manager will not be affected.

  • Solution Manager delete option

    Dear friends,
I am working in Solution Manager 4.0. In SOLAR01, under "project documentation" tab, we are having two delete options.
    They options are:
    1. Delete row
    2. Delete
Assume that, i have uploaded one document in "project documentation' tab.
I can restrict the deletion of that document by second option (Delete), in authorization object S_IWB.
But the user can delete the document by using first option (delete row).
Could any one suggest, which authorization object holds the authrization for restricting "delete row"?
Even i have tried with authorization object S_GUI. In this object(S_GUI) i could not find "delete" activity.
Please guide me, how to arrest both deletion options for a particular document.
    Thanks
    Senthil

    Hi Kumar,
As per my knowledge as of now, you can not just restrict the delete option in your project from Proj Documentation tab.
There is a workaround still available. It may not sound very good option but you will get the required result of control on delete in <i><b>General Documentation</b></i> tab instead of <i><b>Proj Documentation</b></i> tab.
    1. Create a template project first. And add the documentation in its General Documentation tab in SOLAR01 transaction.
    2. Use this template project for you implementation project.
    3. In the Implementation project, the documents from Gen Documentation tab can not be edited or deleted. If it is required to edit, there is an
option of Copy/Link to Proj Docu tab for the selected document. Hence you can restrict to change the original document.
    Hope this helps you.
