Solution Manager's system landscape

Guys,
I have one very basic question.
I believe I read somewhere that we need at least two systems for Solution Manager, DEV environment and PRD environment. Is this correct? If so, how do we transport the SMSY and Solution definitions from DEV to PRD?
If there is some kind of good explanatory documents, would you please give me the link to them?
Thank you in advance.
rgds,
Yoshi

Hi, Srini,
Thanks for your post.
Yes I knew we only need one solman to manage DEV, QA, and PRD sattelite systems. What I want is some kind of official document from SAP that states "only one system is required, additional sandbox is just recommended."

  • Create New Service Session at Solution Manager = Product System missing

We have installed SAP EHP 1 for SAP Solution Manager 7.0 last year but not really use it.
We have setup in the system landscape:
    Server (ecc6sbx)
    Databases (MCD)
Product System (MCD) => SAP ERP
Assigned them to logical component (eg ZECC6DEV)
RFC destination for MCD was generated
SDCCN Administration at solutions manager display MCD with SDCCN status in green color.
At the satellite system MCD, SDCCN Maintenance job was created and scheduled. Initial single run was also done.
There were no issue. Connection to SDCC_OSS was fine.
Back to the SOLUTION_MANAGER transaction, we created a new solution ECC ERP - Development.
In the Solution Landscape => Solution Settings, we have assigned the Logical Component into the System Group.
However when we expand the tree, and click on the Servers folder it did not display anything.
Click on the Product Systems also did not display anything.
We have another Solution Manager which display information on those Servers and Product Systems folder for satellite system.
Going back to the Solution Manager for the Solution ECC ERP - Development, I tried to Create New Service Session for EarlyWatch Alert. When  I click on the Create button, I could only see SAP EarlyWatch Alert for Solutions, there is no SAP EarlyWatch Alert for the Reference Object MCD (<installation number). I could not create a session for MCD.
Does anyone have ideas what I am missing here? I am trying to attached a document which have print screen for reference while creating this message, but there is no such function here.
Adding to link to the document file contain print screen

Anyway, in the solution manger  how to we setup earlywatch alert for the SM SID host itself (source system)?
I have the information on the below from our solution manger
The data for this session is overdue. Data has not yet been transferred from the associated satellite system.
Go to the Service Data Control Center (transaction SDCCN) in the satellite system and check why the data has not been sent.
    Typical sources of errors are:
The RFC connection for the SAP Solution Manager system is not working.
The 'Task Processor' background job, which collects the session data, has been changed.
Problems arose while data was being collected (see the detail log for the task that collects the session data).
A periodic 'SDCC Maintenance Package' task has not been scheduled to check whether your SAP Solution Manager system requests session data.
I tried to go SDCCN on the solution manager itself and look at the Maintenance Service Definitions:
    I get the information:
No suitable RFC Destination found in SDCCN settings.
When I click ok I get the following
No RFC destionation to source system of service definitions available
Delete Service Definitions (radio button selected).
I did not continue and cancel it as I did not want to delete anything.
I check the Task Processor background job is running at SM host itself.
I managed to get the Maintenance Package job running. However it failed with the following
Error refreshing service definitions from destination SM_SSMCLNT001_BACK
Source and target system may not be identical SSM
The source and target system is the same ==> SSM, will this be an issue?

  • Create solution for each system Landscape?

    Hi,
We are using Solution Manager 4.0.
We have created one solution and all of our ECC 6.0 systems with in ECC landscape have been already integrated with that existing 'Solution'..
Now, we are implementing BI 7.0 system.Since this is seperate landscape
would it be better if i  created another solution and integrate all BI systems with
    that?
I thought of taking your opinion before i implement that.
    Thanks,
    Ram

If you group them by system type, how do you classify the Leading Role of your Solution?
You have to assign, Dev, Test, Prd, etc to the leading role of your solution, other systems in the logical component that do not have the same classification that the solution is assigned wont show up.
    edit -
Once you have an active solution you can edit your solution settings and add other systems to your solution even if the leading role of your solution differs from one of the systems of your logical component.  You can simply add a system by adding the logical component that it is defined in, then right click on the system and click "add to solution".

    HI
1.Do i need to configure the CCMS_OnAlert_Email, for every alert that you have, in the satellite system?
Best thing I would say is to copy method ( RZ21 --> Method --> Method definition )CCMS_OnAlert_Email to Z_CCMS_OnAlert_Email in Solman and assign this auto reaction to  MTE class of satellite systems.
    2. How do i configure this out of solution manager, and bypassing the satellite system?
You have to install/configure sapccm4x( for monitoring abap ) on satellite systems by giving details about Solution manager. Then the alert will be sent to Solution manager from satellite system and the configured auto reaction will send mails .

    Hi,
    Q. Is it possible to setup the solution manager -above mentioned tasks without Ides system ?
    A. Yes.
    Check with links for
    1.Early watch alert
This process helps you to identify potential problems early, avoid bottlenecks, and monitor the performance of your ABAP and JAVA systems and your most important business processes, regularly, automatically and effectively. The data collection infrastructure comprises the ABAP Service Data Control Center and the JAVA function module Data Provider. The SAP EarlyWatch Alert in the SAP Solution Manager is a service provided by SAP.
To be able to use it, you have:
maintained the non-ABAP systems correctly in the system landscape maintenance (transaction SMSY)
RFC u2013 Connections between: and an RFC u2013 Connections established.
your satellite systems and the SAP Solution Manager system
SAP Solution Manager and the SAP Service Marketplace
Solution Manager system and Solution Manager Diagnostics
Cf: Solution Manager IMG (transaction SPRO).
checked the availability of the tools required for the SAP Service sessions (add-on ST-A/PI), with the report RTCCTOOL.
activated Alert Monitoring and set-up the Automatic Session Manager (ASM) in the Service Data Control Center (SDCCN) of your satellite systems, for all SAP satellite systems and the central SAP Solution Manager of your solution
set-up your systems in a solution landscape in the SAP Solution Manager
    configured Solution Manager Diagnostics
    2.System Monitoring
The system monitoring in the SAP Solution Manager is, as described above, like a system-wide central CCMS. It can also contain the central CCMS (CEN) of satellite systems. These CENs can then monitor other components.
The graphical display in the SAP Solution Manager gives you access to the alerts of all systems in a solution. You can go to the local or central CCMS of the satellite systems.
The system proposes the most important alerts in the CCMS monitor collection, according to SAP experience, and their alert thresholds, for each system in the solution, in the system monitoring Session. You can activate or deactivate these alerts. The connection between the local CCMS and the SAP Solution Manager allows you to maintain the alert thresholds directly in the SAP Solution Manager, overwriting the values in the local CCMS.
    3.Central System Administration
You activate the customizing for business processes in your solution, in the Business Process MONITORING session in the SAP Solution Manager. A monitoring tree element (MTE), or a monitor collection, u201EBPMu201C of several monitoring objects, is created in the local or central (CEN) CCMS of the satellite system.
The data is collected for the monitoring types of the business process monitoring in contrast to system monitoring, as follows:
    ● The system collects performance (dialog transactions), posting cancellations (V1 and V2) and u201EOther CCMSu201C and interface data, in the local CCMS of the satellite systems.
    ● The system collects background processing, application list, application monitors, delivery lists, and document size data, in the central SAP Solution Manager CCMS.
The SAP Solution Manager system copies the data from the local CCMS.
The graphical display in the SAP Solution Manager simplifies access to the alerts for the business processes, business process steps or the interfaces between the systems in a solution. You can go to the local CCMS of the satellite systems.
The connection between the local CCMS and the SAP Solution Manager allows you to maintain the alert thresholds directly in the SAP Solution Manager. These overwrite the values in the local CCMS.
    4.Business Process Monitoring
The system and business process monitoring (including interface monitoring) in the SAP Solution Manager, both use the Computing Center Management System (CCMS) (transaction RZ20) architecture. This means that system alerts which occur in the local CCMS, are passed to the SAP Solution Manager via RFC connections between the SAP Solution Manager and the satellites. The system shows these alerts in a graphic or in Sessions. You can also handle the alerts centrally, without having to go to the local CCMS of the satellite systems.
You can see the alerts from several systems in a solution landscape in the SAP Solution Manager, in a graphical overview, in contrast to the local CCMS of the SAP Solution Manager satellite systems. This is the view of a central CCMS (CEN). You can also monitor non-SAP systems in a central CCMS (CEN) of a satellite system

    Dear Expert,
    Greetings from Partha.
I need to include our EP 7 systems in Solution Manager 7 for EWA activation. Current lanscape scenario
    Solution Manger     7.00   Installed
    EP                          7.00   Installed
No central SLD configured and all the system have local SLD.
    1. As per the installtion guide & SAP notes we need to install
a> SM Diagnostics Agent & Wilo Introscope in Solution Manager (manging system).
b> Diagnostics Agent in every manged system(s).
For managing system we can download Diagnostics Agent installation DVDs from SAP Service Marketplace
at: http://service.sap.com/swdc --> Download --> SAP Support Packages --> Entry by Application Group
--> SAP Technology Components --> SAP SOLUTION MANAGER --> SAP SOLUTION MANAGER 7.0
--> Entry by Component --> Agents for Managed systems --> DIAGNOSTICS AGENT 7.11

Our Solution Manager 7 is already installed and @SPS 17. My question is
    1. Can we use the same file for SMD installtion in Solution Manger or we need to download it from some other area ?
If it is different then kindly let me know what are the DVDs to be downloaded and from where?
    2. In our Managed System SMD installtion we have decided for
--> Installation Strategy as Direct Solution Manager Registration
But what strategy we should take for SMD installation on Sol Man 7 that is
Local SLD (wrt Sol Man) Registration or Direct Solution Manager Registration
    3. What is the need for the SAP Host Agent Installattion ? Is it mandatory ?
    Help will be appreciated.

Check the pdf attached in note 1234387 - Inst. 7.1 EhP1 - Diagnostics Agent installation
If you have SP17, you must follow note 1357812 and install Diagnostics Agent 7.01 SR1

    3. What is the need for the SAP Host Agent Installattion ? Is it mandatory ?
As you have solution Manager SP17, you can't install Saphostagent 7.11 and for this reason you can't use SAphostagent.
    Agent 7.01 => No Saphostagent
Agent 7.11 => Must install saphostagent
Agent 7.20 => Already have SAPhostagent installed

  • Linking solution manager projects with CHARM implementation project

    Hi Guys,
Currently i am working in CHARM implementation project, i have created one CHARM implementation project with urgent correction and i am able to create the Transport request and release the transport request succesfully and i am able to move it to quality system successfully. But my customer is asking to link the solution manager project to CHARM implementation project.
Earlier before implementing CHARM they have implemented project managent in solution manager, during that project they have created so many projects which are currently running, now they want those projects to be linked CHARM implementation project.
When ever they create a transport request through CHARM they want the TP to be saved under a respective project which they are using currently. but according to my knowledge the TP can be saved under CHARM implementation project only.
Now i want to know whether the projects created in SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN can be linked to CHARM implementation project. Pls give ur valuable inputs as it is very urgent.
    Thanks&Regards
    Raju

    Hello,
We have implemented this with two systems landscape where in we have in place a Solution Manager Dev system and Solution manager Production system both are SOLMAN 4.0 with SP12. So the path for us to move the changes is from Development Systems to Production system.
We have ChaRM between the Dev and production. We reapplied the satellite system concept. For us the Solution manager Prod is a satellite systems all the changes that we move from Development system to Production systems is tracked with necessary documentation in the ChaRM process.
Yes, I agree with you that this is not any big magic. Working with two SOLMAN implementation, I strongly feel that SAP needs to have well rounded ChaRm processes. We have robust Change Management Process, but when we moved to ChaRM we were limited functionality of the ChaRM processes.
I had approached and did some research on how other companies are implementing the same process. Most of them have almost the same process for tracking SOLMAN changes. I am still look out for improved process to manage SOLMA changes.
    Hope this helps!!! Thanks

  • Readonly Access to Solution Manager possible?

    Hello experts,
at the moment we are using Solution Manager mainly for managing the
    system landscape and projects/Business blueprint.
My question, which role needs to be assigned if we want to give a user
    readonly access to projects (RMMAIN)?
In RMMAIN is it possible to give readonly access to one project and
    change access to another project?
Is it possible to give full readonly permission to the Solution Manager?
Thanks a lot in advance for your help,
    Manfred

Thanks for your help.especially the mentioning of the object S_PROJECT proved to be invaluable!
However, in the end some-else suggested to use the solution manager display role SAP_SOL_RO_COMP. This is a composite role holding all (or at least the most important) display roles regarding SOLMAN. I then just copied these single roles to my namespace and adjusted the S_PROJECT field according to my needs. Then I assigned these roles to the target user.
    Thanks again for your help,
    Best regards
    Manfred

  • Handling Solution Manager changes with ChaRM (ChaRM on SolMan PRD)

    Hi Experts,
Having deployed ChaRM to satellite system (three system landscape) we became interested in handling Solution Manager changes with ChaRM. We have operable ChaRM in SolMan 4.0 SP12.
We have DEV and PRD for SolMan so we are talking about two system landscape.
Has anyone of you done this? Does it go the same way as if SolMan was a real satellite system (rfc's=>tms=>ibase=>organization=>project=>MC=>CRs = order of configurations roughly).
I tried searching specific instructions for this deployment but it seems that configuration guides etc focus on satellite system handling. Our need is basically to document and control SolMan changes and with ChaRM we could.
Perhaps there is no magic to this and everything goes just like in satellite, but I would appreciate any experiences others may have had doing this.
    Kind regards,
    Auli

    Hello,
We have implemented this with two systems landscape where in we have in place a Solution Manager Dev system and Solution manager Production system both are SOLMAN 4.0 with SP12.
Thanks

  • Why NWA/SLD/ Solution manager redundancy

I am just curious why systems like SLD and Solution manager both contain the same information? Like systems, software componenets etc.
Another question, I was just reading the docs for NWA administrator and I see that they are suggesting to do some ccms monitoring through NWA. Doesnt solution manager do this already? How many places are there to do monitoring, which ones are best???
Does anyone have Project experience and best practices for this?
    Thanks

    Hello Jeremy,
please note that Solution Manager its own landscape information (tcode SYMSY), which can also be synchronized with the SLD.
Solution Manager is just another display option for monitoring data. The actual monitoring data is retrieved by the CCMS monitoring infrastructure, which is also used by the NWA.
Java-only monitoring data is also retrieved by NWA via JMX. Even in a Java-only landscape, you must have a double-stack system as central system in order to display availability data provided by the CCMSPING agent.
To monitor an ABAP-only landscape, you do not need NWA for the time being.
To monitor a "mixed" landscape, you should use NWA on a double-stack system.
For more information, you can use the following quick links in the SAP Service Marketplace: /nwa, /monitoring and /javamonitoring.
    Regards,
    Dieter

  • Solution manager alerts - receiving after one hour

    Hello dear experts,
We have installed solution manager in our landscape and connected to D, Q and P systems.
We are getting alerts for the issues that occur in satellite systems to our email box, but the alerts are coming after exactly one hour after the occurance of the issue.
Ex: If a dump occurs on P system at 02:00PM. I get an alert email at 03:00PM.
Please suggest the place where I need to check and change the time difference.
Also, let me know if you need any more details. Please help me ASAP
    Thanking you
