Solution Manager SMD Question

Hello,
I have few questions below. Please help.
1) Do we need to configure the SMD for solution manager alert configuration. Or we can configure the solution manager alert configuration for ABAP stack without SMD.
2)Stpes to configure Solution Manager diagnostics.
3) How to do solution manager alert configuartion.
Regards,
Deepak

Hi Deepak,
One thing is monitoring using CCMS on ABAP to monitor JAVA and ABAP systems. For that you will be able to find the complete information on the following PDF:
https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/f08287c4-a4ee-2a10-b0a2-c863755fdb94
In this case you only need an ABAP 7.0 system where you can use auto reaction methods and/or the Alert Framework provided by ABAP for sending alerts to email or pagers and you do not need Solution Manager or Solution Manager Diagnostics.
On the other hand you have the End-to-End Root Cause Analysis that use Solution Manager Diagnostics as tool for workload analysis, exception analysis, trace analysis and change analysis, for this you will need Solution Manager (ABAP and JAVA) and WilyInstroscope. You will find the main installation guide in the following link:
https://service.sap.com/~sapdownload/011000358700000271732008E
The installation guide for Wily Introscope for SAP is on:
https://service.sap.com/~sapdownload/011000358700000271852008E
Currently SMD does NOT provides any alerting capabilities it is only for reporting and problem analysis.

    Dear Experts,
I´ve just had the possibility to start working with SMD and agents and so on.
But one thing I haven´t read anywhere...
    - how many agents should work or run on one host?
what is the concept :=? one agent / host, or one agent /sid?
    Fast answer would be appreciated...
    thank you in advance

What agents you are talking about?

  • Solution Manager - ChaRM question - Scheduling periodic transports

    Hi
We have a requirement to schedule transports to QAS at every 15 minutes. In the schedule manager, I don't see the option for specifying the time in hours or minutes. The minimum is a day. We tried to schedule the job through SM36 with program, /TMWFLOW/SCMA_TRORDER_IMPORT. It's just running, but not importing the transports. Any guidance is appreciated

  • SMD-Monitoring on SAP Solution Manager Server host

    Hi!
Do I need also to install a SMD agent 7.00 on SAP Solution Manager server,
if I would like to set up SMD monitoring for SAP Solution Manager server itself?
    Thank you!
    regards
    Thom

NO, you dont need to deploy SMD agent. SMD Server Package on Solution Manager, SMD Agent on monitored system.
Do you really want to monitor the Solution Manager system(JAVA)? If so yes, install SMD on Solution Manager, if you dont, then just deploy LMSERVICE on Solution Manager(use Solution Manager as the SMD server).
Hope that makes sense or answers what you want. I dont know if you want to monitor Solution Manager, more like want SM to do the monitoring of your satellite systems.

  • Solution Manager DEV and PRD box

In my landscape i have 2 systems for solution manager SMD and SMP , what is the ideal way sap community is using them ...should i divide the solman roles among them or how the 2 system landscape of solman is used ..
    Regards

    Hello Tiger,
In my experience many SAP customers have a one or two system landscape in Solution Manager.
For customers whose main line of business is providing service with the Solution Manager, I would recommend a three system landscape (dev, qas and prd). For customers who run less critical functionality with Solution Manager, and when costs of hosts for the Solution Manager systems are an issue, one or two tier system landscapes can be also considered. Other than this, I don't know any document with precise guidelines to answer your question. At the end it all depends on the scenarios you want to run, and how critical the functionality you run with Solution Manager is for your company.

  • How to configure CTS+ for Solution Manager for XI 3.0

    Hi ,
We are working on XI 3.0 SP 20 and Doing a file system based transport of .TPZ files. We observed that there is a possibilit of misssing the objects while tranporting. So we are planning to set CTS+ with our Solution Manager.
    Question:
    1. Can we configure CTS+ through the latest version of Solution Manager for XI 3.0 landscape?
If Yes .. How?   If No... Why?
    2. Is there any way to make the the transport automated like ABAP tranports.
If there is.... Please send the link or documents..
    Thanks
    Manoj

    Hi Venkat,
Thank you for the Demo. The Demo gives me information about the CTS+ setup. I am looking for the compatability of CTS+ for XI 3.0.
We have Solution Manager 7.1 setup in place.
Please let us know if we can setup CTS+ on solution Manager (7.01 EHP1) and use it to transport XI 3.0 SP20 IR/ID objects  across  the XI landscape.

  • EWA for Business Objects (XI 3.1) within SAP Solution Manager

    Hello!
We use Business Objects (XI 3.1) and would like to get weekly a EWA report within our SAP Solution Manager.
Our SAP Solution Manger has only ABAP stack and it has the SPS version 25.
We also do not use Wily Introscope/Diagnostics and E2E tools within SAP Solution Manager.
    Question
Is it possible to set up EWA for Business Objects with our requirements (SOLMAN with ABAP stack and without E2E/Diagnostics tools)?

    Hello,
The short answer is no. You can verify this in SAP Note  1507629  - Preparing a BOE system for Service Sessions in Sol. Manager.
    "...1.) Managed System Setup
Perform the Managed System Setup for SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise as
described in the "End-to-End Root Cause Analysis System Landscape Setup
Guide". This guide can be found in the SAP Service Market Place:
    -> http://service.sap.com/diagnostics
-> Navigate to the "Media Library"
-> Open the document "SAP Solution Manager Landscape Setup Guide"
Please ensure that you perform all steps mentioned in the guide which
are relevant for your product and version. Please read also SAP note
1357901, which is also referred to in the above mentioned setup guide."
So this is a requirement. There are also pdf documetns attached to this note  that describe how to setup the EWA in Solution Manager. EGI_SBOP_EWA_part1.pdf and EGI_SBOP_EWA_part2.pdf.
The fact you have no Java stack and have not installed Diagnostics, just means it has not been done. It can be done and then you can do a managed system setup, and the balance of tasks required to prepare the system and Solution manager to generate EWA reports for the BOE system. Its just more work, not a show stopper.

  • Is ASAP  part of Solution manager or bothe are different

    hai to everybody,
when we are in implementation we have to use either ASAP methodology or Solution Manager,
    the question is
Is ASAP methodology a part of Solution manager or both are different
Can any one tell me even Schedule manager also
suitable answer will be highly appreciated
    madhu

    Hi,
You have two types of methodologies to implement SAP.
    1. ASAP (Step based methodology & Question & Answer Database Model)
    Phase 1: Project Preparation
    Phase 2: Business Blueprint
    Phase 3: Realization
    Phase 4: Final Preparation
Phase 5: Go Live & Support
    2. Solution Manager (Advance to ASAP & Process based)
This is an advanced to ASAP, we will follow the same steps mentioned in the ASAP methodology but it is completely process driven. As per the business process flow the SAP Implementation flowes the process.

  • Questions on "FAQ - SAP Solution Manager for VARs"

    Hi,
I just got through the FAQ - SAP Solution Manager for VARs, but have some further questions:
For me it is not quite clear which connections are necessary for which VAR scenrio.. currently we have setup the service desk in our solman. Customer's aren't linked to the solman yet - we have saprouter-saprouter connections. Connecting them via SAP support backbone is an interesting option, especially for incident management. To get this working we should follow note 1124718 right?
But what about the other scenarios like maintenance optimizer and ewa monitoring? I guess for that we definitly need to build up RFC connections to each relevant customer system (~300+x)?! I think it will be hard to handle so many connections - just consider if a customer is cancalling the maintenance contract, everything needs to be removed again... best would be to have a central communication point...
For MOPZ we need up-to-date system information. So everyone is talking about SLD. Do you also recommend this option? There we need again a connection (direct to SolMan SLD or via external SLD on customer side).
According to the FAQ there is a workaround for ewa monitoring for customers with security doubts.. is this also working for non-ABAP components? We need SMD and WI for generating ewas for JAVA systems...
With regards to Enterprise Support contract: ewa only need to be monitored for productive systems? Can a customer be charged if they want to have ewas monitored for other sytems too? How long do we need to keep the ewas (1 month, 3 months, half year) before they are deleted? Are there any specific requirements?
All the work to get these scenarios working.. is this covered within the Enterprise Support contract? Can the customer be charged for work thats done by the VAR in their system (e.g. RFC connections, SDCCN, SLD,...)?
Sorry for this long text.. hope you have some helpful ideas!
    Regards,
    Richard

    Hello Richard,
    (1) regarding network connections see document [Draft:Technical Support Network Connections for VAR Scenario|http://service.sap.com/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=00200797470000089947&_OBJECT=011000358700000880802009E] as overview and with a lot of detailed information.
    (2) yes, you have to setup once all your customer connections at the beginning but then only add/remove with customer contract changes
    (3) the workaround by sending by email can handled a anexception. EWA has to be done for productive systems like nowadays done by SAP. Additional EWA services could meas additional business case for a VAR - that's contract between VAR and customer.
    (4) whatever you think may be a business to sell - do it ! (and get a monetary bonus from your boss
    Kind regards
    Heinrich

  • Using saprouter in solution manager 4.0 environment with SMD

I am currently using Solution manager 3.2 (on SAP basis 6.20 technology).  We have not used any Solution Manager functionality that necessitated using the internal ITS, thus all access to solution manager SAP has been through sapgui or RFC.  Both these protocols can be routed through saprouter and we make use of this fact, having placed non-natting firewalls between both sapgui users ans SAP; and some ccmagents and SAP.
Now we want to move on to solution manager 4.0 with the JAVA stack and also run SMD.  We need SMD because we have also begun using SAP Netweaver 04 Enterprise Portal (Java only SAPs) which we wish to monitor with SAP solution monitor.  The portals are all on an internet facing eithernet segment outside the non-natting firewall protecting our ABAP SAPs (including Solution Monitor host).
Is it possible to route SDM agent connections to SDM through saprouter?  If so, are there any examples?
What about sapwebdispatcher?  Can it also be routed through saprouter? examples?
    What about SLD?  same questions...
    What about Mercury Loadrunner?

No! No!  I am not interested in using a saprouter between OSS and my http connection that is effectively http://myhost:5xx00/smd.  I am wondering about the SMD agent connection to SMD server (and vise versa).  The hosts I want to monitor cannot ping the solution monitor diagnostics machine, but ccmsping via saprouter is possible.  Can the SMD agent talk to the SMD server via saprouter? Examples? Can the SMD server talk to the agent via saprouter (perhaps different saprouter)?
    SMD agent ---> firewall1 --> intranet --> firewall2/saprouter --> SMD server
    SMD server --> firewall2/saprouter --> firewall1/saprouter --> SMD agent

Thanks in advance if you or somebody can help me and excuse me if the answers are obviously, but I´m not a system engineer I´m only try to install IDES for learn SAP WM.

  • Question about Alert Framework in Solution Manager

    Hi all,
We are planning to use Solution Manager as Central Monitoring Server, so I want to know what the advantage to use Solution Manager is, especially in Alerting.
We can define auto-reaction methods for monitors to send CCMS alerts to Alert Framework where the alerts can be forwarded to the personal responsible via Email or CCMS.
Is there any difference when using Solution Manager? Which additional functions dose Solution Manager provide in alerting?
In normal SAP Alert Framework, you can only define one receipt for escalation. Can Solution Manager support multiple level escalation? For example, an alert is sent to A, if the Alert is not confirmed by A, then the alert is forwarded to B automatically. The same way the alert can be forwarded to further persons.
    Any idea?
    Thanks!
    Regards,
    Hui

    Hi Hui,
On my opinion there is no any advantage in useíng SAP Solution Manager as central alerting systems in respect to RZ20. The arguments are as follows:
    - in SAP Solution Mnager you have performance restrictions on number of alerts to be displayed in one screen caused by the fact that the alerts are displayed in HTTP format
    - All the customizing in SAP Solution Manager for System Monitoring is Solution specific and not transportable. It means that if you have got corrupted your system monitoring session (that happens not seldom) your settings are lost. If you have created another Solution for the same systems you have to perform customizing from the scratch
    - Customizing is also not very esay to do. I would do recommend to use "User defined Alerts" Please have a look at the SAP Note 1023959 fro this topc
    - SAP Solution Manager does not provide alerting mechanism -> you have to relay to ALM in any case. Here by the way to your second question I would say that it is possible implement exactly process you have described. In the ALM category you can use button escallation to define another person that would be informed via e-mail in case the first Recipient have not completed alert from this category within predefined time
+ The only feature that is unique with System Monitoring with SAP Solution Mnager is the possibility to change threshold values for all the MTEs / MTE Classes that are defined in User Define Alerts an one button click
At the conclussion I would say that there are some custommers that are using SM as monitoring platform But more pragmatical would be to configure RZ20 with help of Rule-based alerts and self- defined system groups and use ALM as alerting infrastructure. In this case you can save in plain XML file your Alert configuration and export it in any other system. ALM has on my opinion enogh functionality for alerting

  • CRM Related Questions for Configuring Service Desk in Solution Manager

    Hi All,
We have 3 requirements while configuring service desk in solution manager:
    1) Is there any possibility that we can restrict view of messages in solman for different teams. E.g: Finance Support team should not view message raised for Material Management Team ?
    2) Is there any possibility in service desk that we can assign message on the basis of location e.g: message raised for finance from location A should go to different support team of finance and for location B, it should go to different finance team ?
    3) Is there any possibility that we can make some question necessary while user is raising very high priority message from satellite system e.g: when we raise Very high priority message on service market place, we need to answer few mandatory questions ?
I tried to search these functionality in standard scenario but I am not able to find something relevant. Please suggest.
    Thanks
    Sunny

    Hi Rama,
I Need to configure the feature to generate a ticket to SAP directly in VERY HIGH priority.
Could you please help me out into this. If you have any doc related to that Please send me.
    Thanks in Advance!
