Solution Manager versus HP Open View

Does anyone has a comparison between HP OpenView versus SAP Solution Manager regarding on line monitoring, EWA and SLR?

Hans,
It's hard to make such a dicision on the info in youre first message. I have seen organisations where all the monitoring was don in ssm but call's and reportinng in a other tools. I know there are organisations where the outsourcing partner uses tivoli to monitor but the organisation it self uses ssm. It depents on what the organisation thinks is important from a tco point of you could say focus on 1 system and if there already is hp ov that would be a good choiche on the other hand i know hp ov licence fees are high and you probebly need a ssm for other things as wel. So i gues a 2 way play would be very good as well.

  • Solution manager can not open pdf documents

What is the reason Solution manager (we have still 3.2) can not open pdf documents (under project documentation).
    Thank you in advance

Solution Manager is the SERVER, it can't open PDF documents; most likely your PC can't open them.

  • Intergaration Solution Manager with Peregrine's ServiceCenter 6.0

    Hi,
We are planning to integrate Peregrine's ServiceCenter 6.0 (HP product) with SAP Solution manager service desk and change request management.
Our idea of integration is that we will integrate the Peregrine's ServiceCenter 6.0 with Solution Manager where Solman will manage the service desk for any incident ticket raise by Peregrineu2019s Service center, application, transport request and etc.
u2022     I would like to know whether anyone has integrated Peregrineu2019s service center with Solution manager before? What is your advice?
u2022     Any suggestion on the process?
u2022     It this process can be carry out?
    Thanks!!

    Hello MeiYen Cheng ,
SAP Solution Manager can be integrated with a Third Party Service Desk tool.
As of Release 4.0, SAP Solution Manager includes an open interface for exchanging messages with help desk systems from other providers. The purpose of the open interface is to act as a central access point for reporters and support employees. It allows you to integrate the SAP Solution Manager service desk into existing help desk systems. Messages are exchanged via Web services for simple, flexible, and platform-independent operations.
I have attached a PDF file here which explains the scenario.
For more information on SAP Solution Manager service desk please refer to the SAP Help Portal (help.sap.com -> SAP Solutions -> SAP Solution Manager -> SAP Solution Manager [current release] [Choose language] -> Service Desk).

  • HTTP Connection for Solution manager

    Dear Experts,
SAP support team asked to create a http connection for solution manager for service check. We already created a R/3 connection for solution manager.why they are asking for HTTP connection? Really they required HTTP connection ?,Is they are any problem with this type of connections. What are the transaction codes which are not run in SAP GUI. Please clarify my doubts.
    Thanks and regards,
    Patan Thavaheer.

    Hi Patan,
Solution Manager transaction codes open in http browser. You can check the behaviour yourself by making a login to solution manager and execute transaction code solman_setup.
For SAP support to open http browser within remote support, they need to have http connection opened along with HTTP url maintained.
Refer to the SAP help link above for the procedure.
    Hope this helps.

  • How does Solution Manager compare to BMC Patrol?

Has anyone done a comparison of Solution Manager versus Patrol when it comes to monitoring OS system level parameters? We are in the process of deciding which tool to use on a new SAP AIX implementation. We like that Solution Manager comes with the SAP application so no extra costs. But we have used Patrol on other mid-range systems with much success. All thoughts and comments would be appreciated.

    Hello Denis,
I am curently on the same situaton as yours few years ago. I gonna implement PATROL, but I just wonder if this valuable to centralise all the monitoring via Sap solution Manager or to customize all PATROL alerts in all SAP backends.
    regards

Kindly guide me to short out this issue
    Thank you
    Deepak

    Hi,
Open your Solution of the affected systems (12 Systems not appearing in your Monitoring). Go to Solution Landscape Maintenance (Under Solution Landscape).
Compare the Leading role of the solution with the role of the system in the logical component.
If these are different, right click on the system and select Put in Solution.
    Hope this helps.
    Feel free to revert back.

  • View the document in Solution Manager

I am told that there is an option in Solution Manager to have the document generate a link that can be emailed to the approver. This allows the approver to view the document in SM without actually having access to SM. The approver can then reply back to the e-mail with his/her approval after viewing document.
I am new the SM any detailed input with how to steps would really help..
    thanks in advance.

    Hi B_J,
it is correct, each document has attributes, on the attribute tab in the button bar, there is an icon to generate an url for the selected document. This link is stored in your windows clipboard, so you can past this link in an e-mail or wordfile. The person who gets the e-mail must have access to the Solution Manager via network, he needs no personal user in the system. The link used a service of Solution Manager(check in the Solution Manager IMG at the HTTP services). This service requires a user to read the document. If you have no user, then it is necessary that in the system a default user is assigned to the service or to its alias. Now to your second use case, the approval, you can not bring any information INTO Solution Manager, you can only answer the e-mail, with the info, yes the document is OK, but you can not set a status or an other attribute at the document, that the document is approved.

  • Error opening a Test Script inUFT from Solution Manager

This error is the subject of a call with SAP and HP but I wondered if anyone else has come across this problem.
We work with Solution Manager 7.1 (SP11) and HP's UFT 11.53 to create automated testing. We ustilise the two free seat licences for UFT that are provided via enterprise support. We do not use HP's Quality Centre.
On some occasions when trying to open a test script for editing UFT tries to open and then closes again. The error message below is displayed in solution manager.
“External Test Tool Quick Test Professional Is Busy and Cannot Create a New Test Script”
When this happens the local cache files are wiped. We have managed to salvage some of these scripts by pasting in copies of the cache file from another PC but some we had to recreate from scratch.

If you don't have one already create a gateway instance on your Content Server.
Change or create the RFC destination :  SAPKPROTP   type = T
Check the radio button to start on Expicit Host
    Enter the program = c:\winnt\sapkprotp.exe
Enter target  host - use the hostname of the server for your Content Server
    Enter the Gateway information

  • Centralized View for all the Project Document in Solution Manager

we assign roadmap to our Implementation project and as per roadmap we upload different documents for the project(e.g. business case, project charter) at different phases of roadmap. can we see all the documents related to a project from a single centralized view??

  • How to open multiple Sessions in Solution Manager

    Good Day Gurus,
I am currently working on Solman 7.1 Sp12.My question is :Is it possible to open multiple sessions in Solution Manager? Here is the scenario: The client is working on multiple incidents and instead of logging on to the system again to access the 2nd incident he would like to open another session within the current call he is working on.
Is this functionality possible in Solman? I have seen the functionality working before  in CRM interaction center not sure if it applies in Solman.
    Your help is highly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Maria

    Hi Maria,
Options to Call a Function in an SAP System, by entering transaction codes in the command field, the transaction in bold is the one your want for opening multiple sessions.
You can use the F1 key on the command field to display the following possible entries:
/N to cancel the current transaction
/NXXXX to call transaction XXXX directly from another transaction. Without the prefix, you can only call XXXX from the SAP Easy Access screen.
/O to display the overview of the SAP GUI sessions on your computer
/OXXXX to call transaction XXXX in a new window directly from another transaction
/NEND to end the log on session with a confirmation dialog box
/NEX to end the log on session without a confirmation dialog box
/I to delete the window you are currently using

  • Solution Manager project views

    Dear friends,
In Solution Manager, t.code SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN, i have created IMG project & Project views. Both(IMG projects & project views) are in green colour.
Both the IMG projects & project views are now available in R/3.
Under project view, i have selected some SPRO activities (for example Logistics execution i have selected ) from IMG screen & also assigned the project view to one R/3 user.
Then in SOLAR02, under configuration tab, i am giving some t.code SPRO & executing the t.code. It is taking me to R/3 but i can view the entire IMG screen instead of what i selected in project view ( I have selected only logistics execution in project view).
Now he can make configuration in all nodes rather than what he has been assigned in project view.
Then what is the importance of assigning project views for users?
Please give your input to restrict the IMG views for users.
    Thanks
    Senthil

  • Solution Manager 3.2 confirming open alerts

We are at the latest support pack levels as of September 2006 running Solution Manager 3.2. When confirming open alerts on non abap systems within the solution_manager transaction we get a cpic error 002 return code 679 and the alerts all go grey. In transaction RZ21 the system goes into shutdown status. However, when confirming these alerts using RZ20 we do not get the error and everything is fine. We are on the latest ccms agent versions on the non abap systems too.
Any assistance would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Gary

For anyone else that has got this problem this was fixed by upgrading to Solution Manager 4.0 and applying patch SAPKITL421 (the bug was still in SM 4.0 below patch 21).

  • Unable to open solution in Solution Manager - SM:EXEC SERVICES

    Hello Experts!!
We have Solution Manager 3.2 SR1 on Solaris 10
We have confiured EWA report to be generated every week through the solution manager. The session data although gets generated for the service created in Solution manager but we are unable to download the EWA report as the automatic job SM:EXEC SERVICES fails with the job log as
Unable to open solution Test. (where the solution name  is Test).
    Message no. DSWP017
When the service processing is started explicitly it runs accordingly. Could you please let me know whether it is an authorisation issue or something else?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Karan Shah

Take a look at the following notes that desribe the reason and
    the solution for this issue:
SAP Note 525097 - Programs cannot be generated, SYNTAX_ERROR,
                      SM:EXEC SERVICES
SAP Note 611536 - Generation error in reports
                      (name pattern RDSVAS____00*)
SAP Note 727998 - Complete Replacement of Service Definitions
                      for SDCC/SDCCN
After applying the above Note SM:EXEC SERVICE background job
    should run correctly again.
Please, first refresh the service definitions on the satelite system
and then, if the problem persists, on the Solution Manager system.

  • Open Service Connection to Enterprise Portal system from Solution Manager

    Hi All,
We are getting below error, when we tried to Enable/Open Service Connection ( DSWP -> Solution Landscape ->Service Connection) to Enterprise Portal system.
Here we selected the row Connection -> R/3 support  and Connection tab -> open/change connection and clicked on SUBMIT. The we got below short dump.
    Runtime Errors         UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION
    Exception              CX_WD_CONTEXT
    Short text
An exception occurred that was not caught.
    What happened?
The exception 'CX_WD_CONTEXT' was raised, but it was not caught anywhere along the call hierarchy.
Since exceptions represent error situations and this error was not adequately responded to, the running ABAP program
         'CL_WDR_CONTEXT_NODE===========CP' has to be
        terminated.
    What can you do?
Note down which actions and inputs caused the error.
To process the problem further, contact you SAP system
        administrator.
Using Transaction ST22 for ABAP Dump Analysis, you can look
at and manage termination messages, and you can also
keep them for a long time.
    Error analysis:
An exception occurred which is explained in detail below.
The exception, which is assigned to class 'CX_WD_CONTEXT', was not caught and
        therefore caused a runtime error.
The reason for the exception is:
The node does not contain any elements. COMPONENTCONTROLLER.1.SYSTEMS.1.CLIENTS
    How to correct the error:
If the error occures in a non-modified SAP program, you may be able to find an interim solution in an SAP Note.
If you have access to SAP Notes, carry out a search with the following keywords:
        "UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION" "CX_WD_CONTEXT"
        "CL_WDR_CONTEXT_NODE===========CP" or "CL_WDR_CONTEXT_NODE===========CM00R"
        "_RAISE_ELEMENT_NOT_FOUND"
SMSY configuration ( logical component assignmnet) is alredy done. Is it required to do any other settings. SMD ( Solution Manager Diagnostics ) settings are not done. Is this required?
We are able to enable/open Service Connection open to ABAP system . Only for Java system we are getting error.
    Please help me on this.
    Thanks..
