I had the same problems with my brother's new incredible Ipod Video.
He almost not know something about the use of computers so i have to make the hard work for him.
I said him it was unnecesarily to install the CD 'cause i already made it for my old Ipod mini. So i connected his ipod but did not open itunes.
After upgrading to SP2, Reinstalling Itunes, totally uninstalling ipod and itunes, reinstalling, etc. i decided to go a little deeper. So i copied some system files from my Mini to the Video, but was'nt the solution.
Then i went to Manage Drives, from right-click on My PC, Manage> Manage Drives, and interchanged the drive letter of our ipods (Video from C to I and Mini from I to F). In my very special case i used to have a drive on C. But it had some MBR problems (nothing to do with this, only details) so i disconnected it physically from the PC (it was an EIDE HDD). So when i plug the Video it gets assignated "C" as it drive letter. So you just have to play around the drive letters and you'll see how it gets detected by Itunes.
I too got very frustrated with this ipod, started to think that it was a nightmare instead a dream, and that apple is not giving the apropiate support for it (even less here in Mexico where this Ipod hasn't been officially released). But that was my very personal problem and im pretty sure the one of yours. By the way, the part of copying files was just a story-part of my experience, you dont need actually to do this.
Note 2: You dont need to restart after changing dive letter. You'll need administrator or super-user privileges to do this. And, give it some time, to itunes, to recognize it.

HOLY COW!!!!
I had to try twice but...when i changed my Drive to "M" it started working (from my primary machine!)!!!
I don't understand what is going on AT ALL with this, but maybe...just maybe I have my mini back!

Apple will never release personal information about you or anyone else to any consumer.  It is your responsibility to verify the device before purchasing it if you choose to go through a third party.  Recommendation: Buy Apple products from an authorized reseller.
You are experiencing Activation Lock.  If the previous owner will not remove the device from their account there is nothing you can do unless the place you purchased it from will give you a refund.
    Activation Lock: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5818
What if I purchase a device that is still linked to the previous owner's account?
Contact the previous owner as soon as possible and ask them to erase the device and remove it from their account. For complete instructions, read how to remove a device from a previous owner's account.
How do I check for Activation Lock before purchasing a used device?
When purchasing an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from someone other than Apple or an authorized Apple reseller, it is up to you to ensure that the device has been erased and is no longer linked to the previous owner’s account.
Follow each of these steps to make sure that you can use the device you purchase:
Turn the device on and slide to unlock. If the passcode lock screen or the home screen appears, the device has not been erased. Ask the seller to completely erase the device by going to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. Do not take ownership of any used iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until it has been erased.
Begin the device setup process. After choosing a language, choosing a country, and connecting to a network, the device will begin activation. If you are asked for the previous owner’s Apple ID and password, the device is still linked to their account. Hand the device back to the seller and ask them to enter their password. If the previous owner is not present, they can remove the device from their account by signing in to icloud.com/find. Do not take ownership of any used iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until it has been removed from the previous owner’s account.
You will know that a device is ready for you to use when you are asked to “Set up your iPhone", “Set up your iPad", or “Set up your iPod” during the device setup process.

  • Is it possible for my ipod to harbor a virus?

I understand that it cannot actually get a virus itself, but when I decided to sync the ipod to my PC  and finally update it (still at 4.2 :( ) , an icon appeared onto the taskbar saying dowload complete.  I looked at it, it told me it was itunes but it was not published by apple.  It described the download as a secure browser to go on certain websites or something like that... But anyways is it possible that my ipod transfered a virus to my computer.
I've also heard to factory reset it, but, I can't without plugging it back in.

Okay what you said about the permision part reminded me of accidentally clicking on an ad, and my blue notification screen came up (all notifications are off so it wasnt a message) and said something but since I was already tapping the screen to go somewhere else before the page loaded up, but because of that I hit one of its buttons and it went away without me reading it.  Would it still prevent it from storing things onto my ipod?
Sorry I don't mean to sound stupid I'm just not tech savvy.

  • Is it at all possible to move ipod music from a mac to a pc?

...without a CD burner on the mac?
    Here's the problem...
My son wants to burn a CD of some of his ipod music. We had originally intalled the ipod on a mac. However, the mac disk is full, and we haven't been able to install an external cd burner.
We have several pcs with cd burners, so I thought I could move the music over to the pc using the ipod. It did create a "shared" library, but you can't do anything with that but listen to it. I reformatted the ipod to pc format, but can't put the music back on the ipod.
I should be able to reformat the ipod back to mac, then reload the songs on there, but unless I can free up enough space to load the cd burner software, I'm kind of out of luck?

"is it at all possible to move ipod music from a mac to a pc?"
Windows can't read the HFS+ file system that a Mac uses.
If you need to use a Mac (HFS+) formatted iPod on a Windows PC, you'll need to install some 3rd party software such as XPlay 2.0 (which you can get from MediaFour Software). This will enable your Windows PC to read a Mac-formatted iPod.

SVP is what will be possible in the future to install iOS 7 in the iPod 4g?! there's he trying to make iOS 7 possible on the iPod 4g?! Thank you for your help
Apple said that iOS 7 is of r5G iPod touch
    iPhone 4 and later
    iPad 2 and later.
All the iOS devices compatible with iOS 7 have at least 512 MB of memory. The 4G only has 256 MB
There is no reason to believe iOS 7 will come to the 4G iPod.

  • Is it possible for a iPod touch to get a virus when downloading free games off the internet? If yes, is there an antivirus program to protect the ipod. and can some of the current apps be saved from the virus damage?

Is it possible for a iPod touch to get a virus when downloading free games off the internet? If yes, is there an antivirus program to protect the ipod. and can some of the current apps be saved from the virus damage?

I had one game permanently just stop working, it usually does crash, but that last time it just went bad, I don't know the reason, I tried powering off iPod, relaunching game, but the game never worked again. I think it corrupted its own save file or some of its own data.
Have you tried another game or app, do those work? If they do, then I guess you know where the problem lies, but if they all stop working, then what about apps, can apps launch?
Lastly, apps from the app store are checked by Apple, so they are clean.

  • Possible cause of ipod not being recognised in itunes

Hi there from a first time poster
I have had a problem that judging by posts here and various other forums a lot of people have had. I have found what may be a cause and would be interested to know if the same applies to other people with the same problem.
Background first, and sorry i know this will be a long read:
The problem is that itunes will not recognise your ipod (60gb ipod photo in my case). I had tried a number of things, including everything in this apple support article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716 and various other things I found around the web. I even reinstalled Windows in the hope that it would help, but to no avail.
I took the ipod to an Apple service centre in Sydney, they tested it and said it worked fine. After some more hair pulling i gave Apple support a call, but didn't get a lot of help due to my ipod being over 90 days old. The support guy did mention something about faulty USB ports though. My USB ports work fine with everything else I have ever plugged into them, but i got googling.
It seems that motherboards using Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) chipsets are known for havin dodgey USB ports. This may only apply to older ones, not sure (my PC is about 3 years old). So i decided to bite the bullet in the hope of fixing by ipod paperweight and bought a USB PCI card. After installing the card the ipod worked perfectly with itunes first go, and has had no hiccups since.
A few days ago I checked out a friend's PC who was having the same problem with her ipod... SiS chipset. Once again bought a USB card and installed it. The ipod has worked fine since.
Please everyone don't rush out and buy USB cards in the hope of fixing this problem, but if anyone has i'd be curious to know if it also fixed their problem. After fixing the same problem the same way twice i was thinking that perhaps ipods may not be completely compatible with SiS chipset USB ports? If the same problem and solution can be identified as occuring more frequently perhaps there is some way to bring it to Apple's attention.
OK there it all is, hope this interests someone out there. Thanks for reading, Steve
    Some PC   Windows XP Pro

    hi Daniel!
Could this confict be created by one of last weeks Critical Windows Updates? It seems to me that it could be because it seems many who have WinXP are suddenly all having the same problem.
i've always been a bit concerned about that. (more so this week than ever before, since the noir household had their Outlook Express address book blown up by KB911567.) but i haven't seen many confirmed links between updates and itunes/ipod problems.
this caused a few 1607s on software installs (because of the way it blew out Windows Installer on some PCs):
Systems that have changed the default Access Control List permissions on the %windir%\registration directory may experience various problems after you install the Microsoft Security Bulletin MS05-051 for COM+ and MS DTC
and SP2 broke some Firewire connections for some folks (although i believe that issue may have been patched in later updates).
i still get a bit uneasy when an automatic update comes down the pipe, though ... and i try to keep an eye on the possibility.
    love, b

  • Simple solution for Apple re: the ipod hearing damage issue;-)

All those stories on pods damaging hearing
    http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/03/14/health/main1403418.shtml
First you have to be an idiot to turn it way way up; but the simple solution Apple can easily do is to make the volume control level bar turn red when it gets to a possibly damaging level for those folks who can't figure it out themselves...;-) That could be a simple update to add some color.....
[Apple can send me adequate compensation for my brilliant suggestion, I'd suggest a 40gig ipod;-)]

    Don't tell us, tell Apple. : )

  • Possible to do iPod commerical effect?

    Hi
I've just started with iMovie '09, and have done some successful green-screen tests. What I'd like to do is 'wash out' just the foreground actor (to a black 'silhouette') image after green screen composition, without affecting the background.
This is basically the same effect they did in the iPod commercials from a few years ago- subject dancing turned into a silhouette on top of a green-screen background.
So ideally I'd like to be able to separate the foreground and background into separate 'layers' or something like that to only affect the keyed out foreground.
Is this possible?? If not, can someone point me to a relatively inexpensive editing tool that can do it?
    Thanks loads

in Final Cut Express you could handle the two 'layers' of a green-screen recording to accomplish such an effect - 199$

  • Best possible sound from ipod

Hi does anyone know the best possible sound settings in iTunes under "import" section in MP3 format *That an iPod G5 can play?* in terms of kbps and sample rate.

  • Is it possible for the Ipod 4th Generation to get IOS 7?

    Hello all,
I was just going to ask is it possible for 4th generation Ipod Touch's to get IOS7? as many of the new iphones and ipod nano's have accessed this new software except this version of the Ipod.
Please get back to me as soon as possible,
    thank you,
    From Amy

    No.
As Apple said in June, iOS 7 is not compatible with the 4G iPod. Not enough RAM
All the iOS devices compatible (iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, and 5G iPod touch) with iOS 7 have at least 512 MB of memory (RAM). The 4G iPod only has 256 MB

  • EGPU solution if possible.

So I'm using my laptop as a "Slave" if that's the correct term for it.
Basically I hooked it up to my 27" monitor through HDMI so I can get full 1080P resolution, as well as connecting a wireless keyboard and mouse to it.
Now, my laptop is an HP Envy DV7 7270CA, that comes with an Nvidia GT630M GPU. It's not a bad GPU, especially for a consumer grade laptop, but I find it a bit lackluster, even at 1600 x 900 resolution, let alone 1920 x 1080.
I've read about eGPU in the past, and I was wondering if it was possible with my laptop. It doesn't have to be discreet or neat or anything, just anything that works. Even if I use a GTX650 Ti or something like that. Just anything that would be an upgrade to what I have. Now I understand that gameplay > graphics, but if I can have both, why not? I'd just like a more immersive experience when I play some games.
If I could upgrade my chipset from a 630M to a 650M, I would, but I heard that's more impossible than surviving in the detonation zone of a nuke.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi,
Well, you are talking about EXTERNAL video cards for laptops here and your "PLAN" is to use normal highend desktop cards. From my understanding: not many laptops have PCIe x16 and few other things therefore if you wish to test you  msy need:
    (a) A converter to connect normal MXM slot to external PCIe x16 connector,
    (b) Power supply for the  external card. No way you can draw enough power from your laptop to a highend external video card.
    (c) Hardware to mount your external video card ...
    Good luck.
