Solution to After Effects CS 5.5 crash when using eyedropper?

I have a 2014 Mac running Yosemite, and I recently downloaded the Adobe Master Collection from the CD onto my new laptop. I have had no problem running this program on other mac's before, but for some reason whenever I open it now and try to use the eye dropper tool, the whole app crashes. This happens every time I try this. Typically this is not a big deal for my needs, but I am currently trying to use Key Light to key out a green screen. If anyone has any idea on how to fix this problem please help, or any other way to key out a green screen. (P.S. I am also having a similar problem with Adobe Premier and so I can not use that to key either).

Some people have had success changing the preferences to use the system color picker.
Again, this is not a supported OS for running AE. It's not a good idea to try to use such old software on a new OS in a production environment. I'd recommend using an older OS or a newer AE. (I vote newer AE - there are some great new features!)

• After Effects CS6 and CC crash when Composition panel is closed, moved, switched w/ Layer panel, etc

Kind of hard to word the problem in a non-confusing way, but here goes. After Effects CS6 and CC will only work if the Composition panel is in its default spot in the Standard workspace, and that it's the only thing displayed there. No layer or footage panels can be opened - it can only be Comp or nothing.
In other words, AE is 100% certain to crash if:
- The composition panel is closed or moved to another spot in the workspace.
- A file from the project is double-clicked and opened as a layer/footage panel
- Any attempt is made to switch the Standard workspace to another
The crappiest thing about this is that I've searched Google using as many different phrases as I can and haven't found any discussion about this particular problem. It's as if I'm the only one on Earth who is having this issue.
It should be noted that After Effects CS5 does not have this problem on my PC, but I need CS6 or better because that's what we're using at work now. I can't work from home (as I need to do occasionally) if AE won't work properly.
System:
Windows 7 PC, 12GB RAM, Quad-core AMD Phenom II X4 965 @ 3.7 Ghz, ATI Radeon HD 6700 series GPU (1GB)

It's not like a regular crash that instantly closes the program and has a "sorry, AE crashed" popup. It basically just freezes until the process is forced to quit.

• After Effects 6.5 & 7 crashes when I import audio...

hey guyz,
help me...
i'm havin a prob.. When i import mp3/audio in after effects 6.5 & 7...d software crashes and the error msg is here :
" After Effects can't continue: sorry, After Effects has crashed. See www.adobe.com/support/products/aftereffects.html for known issues. If you still can't resolve the issue, please contact Adobe Technical Support (2). (0::42)"
plzzz reply & tell me solution

Most importantly: what is the source of the MP§ file and its internal structure? Is it copyrighted? Is it surround/ multichannel? Is it a captured web radio stream? Is it from an online store? Does it use variable bit rates? There's a number of things that could be the reason... That aside, Andrew is right: convert the file to a wave file e.g. using Winamp's disk writer module. Even if you could import the MP3 directly into AE, there's always the chance it may sound garbage, due to to way how AE handles such compressed audio, especially in versions prior to CS3.

• After Installing More Ram, MBP Crashes When Using Battery Power

I own a 2.16 Ghz MBP. Last night, I installed 4 Gigs of ram (2x2 Gigs)purchased from crucial.com into my MBP. (Yes, I realize that the MBP only utilizes about 3.3 Gigs of the ram, but I wanted the benefits of running with a matched pair).
After installing the ram, my MBP recognizes the new ram and everything seemed fine. And, it was fine until I unplugged the MBP's power and went mobile. Then, after a few minutes of use, the MBP completely shut down and turned off. I tried turning it back on, but it would not. So, I plugged the MBP and it booted up fine. I unplugged it again, and again, after a few minutes of use, the MBP shut down completely. Being that the battery was fully charged, I don't know why it would behave this way.
Any way, anybody have any ideas as to what might be wrong?

It sounds as if you have a defective battery. I would call Apple and explain your MBP's symptoms. If the battery is swollen it is likely a candidate.

• After effect CC 12.2 Crash - Dynamiclinkmanager.app??

Bonjour,
- Désinstaller, réinstaller After Effects

• After Effects Warning: A problem occurred when processing OpenGL commands

Hi There Fellow Adobe After Effects Users.
Please could some one help assist me with the following error i am getting.
I bought a template and needed to do a logo animation reveal. It was done using After Effects CC for PC.
AE had to then convert it to Mac which did so successfully. I was able to modify, add my logo and render out.
The following day i opened the file again and it gave me the follwoing error:
"After Effects Warning: A problem occurred when processing OpenGL commands"
What is confusing to me is that this issue would normally appear if my graphics cards did not support OpenGL, and it would not have opened in the first place if it was not supported.
My graphics card is a - ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB - running Mavericks OS. So i know that this card does support GPU acceleration.
Please could someone point me in a direction that will fix this.
Thank you so much

Thank you for the update Mylenium.
If I look at my display info, the card says OpenGL engine. Does this mean anything?
If it's not supported, then what's the point in purchasing a Mac If you cannot use AE's full capacity. Mac doesn't put Nvidia cards in there machines and on the Adobe website, ATI cards ate not listed; but in the same breath it says that most ATI cards that have come out in the past 5 years are supported. Surely Adobe and their technicians must have spoken with Mac technitions.
I am considering to buy the new Mac Pro; but am definitely going to change my mind if I cannot use AE's full compatibility. I don't see why spend so much cash if the cards aren't great.
Please could you then tell me what functions to switch off in the project file. I'll get the guy whom I bought the template from to switch of those functions.
Thank you.
Have a great day

• After Effects - Multiprocessing not allowed even when a Proxy is used?

Hi everybody!
I have a composition (Comp1) that uses an effect which doesn't allow multiprocessing (e.g., Lens Blur) -- this I understand.
Comp1 is used inside of Comp2. When I pre-render Comp1 and use that render as a proxy for Comp1 inside of Comp2, I still can't use multiprocessing. This is the confusing bit. I'd think since the Lens Blur effect isn't actually being rendered, it shouldn't give me any guff.
Alas, it does. Anyone else run into this? Is there a workaround, or is it a bug/oversight by our friends at Adobe?
Thanks in advance as always -- this forum is a great resource!

Hi Dave,
I appreciate your help, but I think I'm still missing something. When I set a proxy movie for my Comp1, come render time, it should never look inside Comp1 at all — it should just use the proxy movie. The LensBlur effect is not applied to Comp1 itself, it's used INSIDE Comp1.
To what end would AE look inside the real Comp1 when it's been assigned a proxy movie?

Subject: After Effects - Multiprocessing not allowed even when a Proxy is used?
Typically, a proxy is a low-resolution substitute for the real image to make AE work a little faster, right? When AE renders, it doesn't render the proxy, it uses the high-resolution real image, right? The same thing is happening in your project.
If it doesn't impact your work to use a lower-resolution substitute for your comp 1, I'd suggest not using the substitute as a proxy.
If full resolution matters, make a full-resolution prerender.

afrill,
It seems that you file has become corrupted.
One thing often tried first is to create a new document and File>Place the corrupted one to see how much may be rescued that way.
Here is a website where you can see whether it can rescue the file, and if it can, you may pay for a subscription to have it done,

• Render files from After Effects inserts do not reload when starting Premiere Pro (CS6)

Hi there,
When I have an insert from After Effects in Premiere Pro, and when I render these parts in the sequence, everything is fine untill I restart Premiere Pro: the render files do not load. Checking the cache directory however, they do exist! Anybody knows how to solve this issue?
Thanks for yor response, Pieter

I failed to mention that I tried this on another computer as well with a completly different lesson. This time I brought the whole footage in to afteraffects and did the keying and then went back to CS6 and tried to render it, and it locked up my second computer the same way.

• After Effect warning: A problem occurred when processing OpenGL commands

I have After Effects CS6 in a computer where also CS5.5 is installed. 64bit windows 7 Ultimate 20GB memory and two AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series Display adapters with drivers updated an hour ago (Driver date 27.7.2012, version 8.982.0.0).
When trying to use After Ecffects, I get error message "After Effect warning: A problem occurred when processing OpenGL commands" immediately when clicking Composition window.
What could be done?

Not much, I'm afraid. You probably need an older graphics driver. Other than that you could always disable the second card or play with the configuration. Unfortunately some not so smart person decided that CS6 would no longer need manual OpenGL control for the user, so there's no way to suppress it from within the program to force-revert to software-only modes in case of such issues...

Which chipset is on your system's motherboard? Which motherboard is your PC equipped with?
If the motherboard is using an AMD 790 or 970 series chipset, the HyperTransport bus will be running at a reduced speed, and thus the CPU performance will be worse than a quad-core Intel i5 CPU without hyperthreading. In many instances, this means that the GPU will be laying idle, waiting for the CPU to catch up.
If on the other hand the motherboard uses an AMD 990FX chipset, then it's likely that there is something else bottlenecking your PC.

• Adobe Photoshop CS4/5 Crashes when using the Move Tool

Hello. I'm here because I'm having an issue with Photoshop.
I was trying out CS5 when it started to crash every time I tried to use the Move Tool. It was the generic error message: "Adobe Photoshop CS4 has stopped working.
A problem has caused Adobe Photoshop CS4 to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
Thinking that it was a CS5 issue, I went back to my copy of CS4, only to find the same thing happening there (I also downgraded because CS5 was also crashing at other random times for some reason, but that's an issue for another time).
This puzzles me because both were working fine before. Granted, I hadn't opened them for a while, but it was a sudden thing.
My first impulse was to uninstall and reinstall CS4. No luck. So then, I uninstalled all third-party plugins, thinking that might be it. Still, the same problem. I started looking around on Google for solutions and found the instructions on resetting the Tool preferences (I chose to reset the preferences for ALL of the tools). When that didn't work, I tried deleting the preferences file outright, which said instructions recommended. Nothing.
I should note that Photoshop crashes when using the Move Tool to move an object without ant lines around it, i.e., a layer. I'll move the object, and after two to three seconds, the mentioned error message will appear and Windows will close Photoshop. This, however, only seems to happen after selecting, copying, and pasting part of a large object with some variation of the Marqee Tool (thus making that part a new layer by default) while working at a zoom of 100%. So, in short, working with a large image like This at 100% zoom. The image linked is the image that I was using and am currently using to reproduce the problem. It is 1280x1024 pixels. I have tested this with somewhat smaller, yet comparable images too. Same problem. I have never had this problem working with large images before, and I wonder if anyone has any suggestions short of formatting my hard drive.

Even a decent RAM upgrade is usually only a few hundred dollars nowadays, but it's not a trivially simple process. That said, with a little research and care you can do it. Alternatively, you can hire people (e.g., "Geek Squad") to do such an upgrade.
First, you'll need to know what your operating system capacity is. For example, a 32 bit Windows system can really only use up to a bit more than 3 GB of RAM, while a 64 bit Windows system can use all the RAM you can find a place to plug in. What version of Windows are you running?
Then you'll need to determine what RAM you have installed and what your computer's maximum RAM capacity is - usually you can do this through internet research, either by visiting your computer manufacturer's web site or doing google searches. There are even RAM manufacturer web sites that will tell you what kind of RAM your computer needs and suggest sources, for example:
http://www.kingston.com/
It may be that you can just plug additional chips into currently empty sockets, or it is possible you'll need to replace the RAM chips you have installed in your computer to make room for an upgrade. Every computer is different.
If you list your computer model and current RAM that you have installed here, it may be that someone can help with more specific advice.
