Solution to "Black image when adding a watermark in Aperture"

Hi,
I read an archived topic about people having issues with adding a watermark to their exported images using Aperture 1.5.2. I think the solution lies with what your current Display color profile (System Preferences > Display > Color) is set to and what color profile you used to create your watermark.
I created my original watermark using Photoshop CS2 and I believe that the watermark was saved using the sRGB Profle. However, I then calibrated my monitor using a Pantone Huey and it changed the color profile in my System Preferences. So every time I tried to export an image with a watermark from Aperture, I would get a black image with my watermark in the correct spot.
To solve the problem, I changed my Color Profile to sRGB Profile, then started Aperture. When I exported my image, everything came out properly.
Hope this is helpful to others.

I also just ran into this problem...my solution was an issue with the RAW fine tuning.
Images that used the new RAW fine tuning 2.0 (with Aperture 2) exported watermarks (I used a .psd file) just fine, but when exporting images with RAW fine tuning 1.1, a black box would show up around my watermark. So I migrated my images to RAW fine tuning 2.0 and it fixed the black box issue.

  • Prevent all page color from becoming opaque when adding a watermark with opacity

    It looks like when I create a watermark AND change the opacity to something low the entire PDF becomes slightly opaque and colors are not that vivid (even if the actual text watermark is very small in the corner).
    The only way I noticed fixes this problem is if I check the option to "Keep position and size of watermark text constant when printing on different page sizes".
    See difference here:
    -- Normal - http://screencast.com/t/5bCfSP5Fba
    --Opaque - http://screencast.com/t/03qXJhR1ydh
    --This is the difference in black when zooming in: http://screencast.com/t/PPsMJiLiS
    Does anyone know what could be causing this? Is there a way to fix it without checking "Keep position and size of watermark text constant when printing on different page sizes"?
    Thanks!

    ALMOOOST!
    It did work but I don't understand why it worked on some pages and not on others. So when using this method, its worked completely fine when the watermark is applied to visible page. However, when the watermark is applied only to printed pages, some of those pages lose the water mark completely on print during the flatten/change blend space. I cant tell whats special about those pages that it works that way.
    Maybe it will be just easier to use the "Keep position and size of watermark text constant when printing on different page sizes" option when adding the watermark and then everything looks evenly perfect(just need to manually center the watermark position for each file). Curiously though, any idea what could be the correlation between the "Keep position and size of watermark text constant when printing on different page sizes" and the opacity of page when adding an watermark?

  • Embed fonts when adding a watermark

    Acrobat 8.1:
    Please help me embed a font when adding a watermark. I'm using the addwatermarkastext() method, using C#:
    args = new System.Object[] { text, 1, fontName, size, jsoColor, -1, -1, true, true, true, horizontalAlign, verticalAlign, horizontalValue, verticalValue, false, 1.0, false, watermarkRotation, 1.0 };
    jso.GetType().InvokeMember("addWatermarkFromText", System.Reflection.BindingFlags.Default | System.Reflection.BindingFlags.InvokeMethod, null, jso, args);
    This works great, but I need to embed the font into the PDF. I'm using a barcode font that must be embedded, since the downstream viewer is not acrobat reader (and the user may not have the barcode font installed) and has a hard time with non-standard fonts. We are using a barcode font with an free license, so licensing won't be an issue.
    When I add a watermark manually through the Acrobat pro interface, Acrobat DOES embed the font. I can't rely on users to enter the information accurately, so I must have an automated solution.
    Is there a setting on Addwatermarkfromtext that I'm missing, or is there another way to embed just that one font? I don't want to embed all fonts in the document, just the barcode font.
    I've tried adding a dummy watermark with text that is not visible (I saw somewhere online that someone recommended this approach). It did not work..

    addWatermarkAsText() will always embed the font, provided that the font is licensed for embedding. have you verified that the font vendor has granted you those rights? I know you said it's "free", but perhaps it's not embeddable. You can easily check that using Distiller or the Microsoft Font Panel.
    If you were to upgrade to Acrobat 9, then there is an EmbedFont function you use to embed just that font after the fact - though, again, it shoudl be embedded as is.

  • Feh showing black images when opening certain .bmp files

    Hi all,
    I've been using feh (I'm using imagemagick too) from quite a bit and today I noticed it shows plain black images when opening certain .bmp files, those files are obtained from a Java WebService and they may not be correcty formed, still firefox can correctly visualize them. Would it be possible to make feh correctly display them ?

    I've set Photoshop to ask me if there's a conflict with embedded color schemes but it doesn't ask when opening this file. So I presume it doesn't use any specific profile. (Can I check this directly somehow?)
    EDIT: I've now set to ask if there is no profile embedded and Photoshop now says that the image has no embedded RGB profile.
    My color profile within Photoshop is set to sRGB which is the default for my display.
    When I try switching to other RGB profiles in the list, the colors change but the distortions are still there no matter which profile I choose.

  • Black images when trying to view other user's added photos in iPhoto

    Hi all - I've had this problem for ages and really want to get to the bottom of it.  We have 1 iMac that has iPhoto '09 with the library in a shared folder so that both myself and my wife can import pictures into the 1 iPhoto library.  So... 1 iMac, 2 users, 1 iPhoto library.  It works somewhat... but there seems to be a big problem when I open iPhoto (no other user even logged into the computer) and as I browse through the library, many of the photos my wife has imported have thumbnails, but enlarge to black.  Same thing in reverse, it seems to have a problem with many of the photos I've imported if my wife logs in and scrolls through the iphoto library.  It's not every picture but it is a good chunk of them.  The thumbnails are there... and when I log in under my name, I can view all the ones that were "blacked out" when my wife was logged in (and vice versa), so the images aren't gone.  How can I repair this once and for all???  I just want a fully functioning iPhoto that both my wife and I can trust.
    THANKS!!!

    There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    If none of these help:
    As a Test:
    Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
    Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Getting black image when resize to thumbnail

    When uploading images through a servlet via a webbrowser, I am saving the image to the harddrive and then resizing the image as thumbnail for certain view pages.
    I have tried serveral approaches to resizing the image, with all solutions I use the thumbnail image is being returned as a solid back image.
    I started with the example on the Sun Tech Tips site: http://java.sun.com/developer/TechTips/1999/tt1021.html
        public static void createThumbnail(
                String orig, String thumb, int maxDim) {
            try {
                // Get the image from a file.
                Image inImage = new ImageIcon(orig).getImage();
                // Determine the scale.
                double scale = (double) maxDim / (double) inImage.getHeight(null);
                if (inImage.getWidth(null) > inImage.getHeight(null)) {
                    scale = (double) maxDim / (double) inImage.getWidth(null);
                // Determine size of new image. One of them
                // should equal maxDim.
                int scaledW = (int) (scale * inImage.getWidth(null));
                int scaledH = (int) (scale * inImage.getHeight(null));
                // Create an image buffer in which to paint on.
                BufferedImage outImage = new BufferedImage(scaledW, scaledH,
                        BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);
                // Set the scale.
                AffineTransform tx = new AffineTransform();
                // If the image is smaller than the desired image size,
                // don't bother scaling.
                if (scale < 1.0d) {
                    tx.scale(scale, scale);
                // Paint image.
                Graphics2D g2d = outImage.createGraphics();
                g2d.drawImage(inImage, tx, null);
                g2d.dispose();
                // JPEG-encode the image and write to file.
                OutputStream os = new FileOutputStream(thumb);
                JPEGImageEncoder encoder = JPEGCodec.createJPEGEncoder(os);
                encoder.encode(outImage);
                os.close();
            } catch (IOException e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
        }I have tried other approaches from various posting I found off google such as:
        public static void scale(String filename, String outputfile, int width, int height)
                throws Exception {
            ImageIcon source = new ImageIcon(filename);
            double sf_x = width / (double) source.getIconWidth();
            double sf_y = height / (double) source.getIconHeight();
            System.err.println("Scale_factor_X: " + sf_x);
            System.err.println("Scale_factor_Y: " + sf_y);
            BufferedImage bufimg = new BufferedImage(width, height, BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);
            Graphics2D g = bufimg.createGraphics();
            g.setComposite(AlphaComposite.Src);
            AffineTransform aft = AffineTransform.getScaleInstance(sf_x, sf_y);
            g.drawImage(source.getImage(), aft, null);
            FileOutputStream os = new FileOutputStream(outputfile);
            JPEGImageEncoder enc = JPEGCodec.createJPEGEncoder(os);
            enc.encode(bufimg);
            os.flush();
            os.close();
        }No matter the implementation, the output is always the black image. I tried additional steps such as adding the JVM flag of:
    -Djava.awt.headless=true
    I've certainly spent a few hours on the google search engine and reviewing various newgroup posting, your suggestions come with many thanks.
    Cheers,
    Justen

    I tried your method and it worked okay. The only way I can get the black image is to send in a distorted path. One of the problems with the ImageIcon.getImage technique is that you get no feedback about loading failure. Here's a way to peek into the process for some indication of how it went. If you can tolerate j2se 1.4+ you could use the ImageIO methods in lieu of the proprietary JPGImageEncoder.

  • When adding a watermark, Lightroom crashes

    Anytime I try to export a file and add a watermark, Lightroom crashes.  I can export without adding a watermark just fine.  Lightroom also crashes when I try to edit a current watermark - as soon as I click the drop down menu to choose which watermark to edit, down goes Lightroom.  I have both text watermarks and a small jpeg as a watermark (same thing happens with both) and I am running Lightroom 4.3.

    It does sleep eventually, but not while I'm using the watermark feature? And it's not like I move the file around, it stays put. At any rate, I've moved it over to my internal hard drive to test that theory and it seems to be working thus far
    As a side note, I'm wondering if it's ok that my raw files are on my internal hard drive but the catalog is on my external? When I import new images, they go to my "Pictures" folder by default but the catalog itself is located on my external. So when I back it up, it backs up to my external, which is the whole point...but since I wasn't sure if you're supposed to be referencing the files from the same place and THEN backing them up somewhere separate? Sorry if that's confusing!

  • Low quality image when adding to iMovie

    I have 2 movies that I want to remove some parts, but when adding to iMovie, it changed some video adjustments to a worst quality image.
    This 2 movies had already bad image quality from the source, because they have very darkness frames and were filmed in VHS.
    But they were reasonable to see, from Apple TV.
    Now in iMovie they became worst.
    The source is H.264, AAC 1280x720 FPS 23,97
    The source is H.264, AAC 1024x576 FPS 23,97
    What can I do ?

    Available ?
    More or less.
    And how can I send a sample ?
    Depends on the size of the sample and what space is available to you on a server. You can usually send snippets as e-email attachments up to about 10 MBs. If you have a MobileMe account, server space provided by your ISP, or other server space provided by a third-party service, then you can upload larger samples for FTP or webpage use and simply post/send me the URL, reference movie, or QTL.
    When the movie goes to iMovie, the brightness decreases and the contrasts became more darkness.
    Have you tried playing with the built-in "Video Adjustments" at all? Not the easiest thing to use but you can make some adjustments using it. In such work, "Less is usually best." By this I mean you should apply as little adjustment as you can get away with using.
    Normally I would start with a "Level" adjustment. While there is an "Auto" button you can press to get some idea as to what the application says you need for a particular frame or range of frames, this setting can vary drastically depending on the individual frame being tested. So it would usually be a good idea to expand your clip and "test" a number of frame ranges to see what is a "typical" setting for the clip. If the settings are fairly uniform, you can go with the suggested setting or something reasonably close to save "blowing out" highlights. On the other hand, if the settings vary drastically, you my either wish to select an "in-between" setting of your own manually, or split the clip into sub-segments which can then be adjusted individually. NOTE: the auto "Level" adjustment does not affect other settings -- only the clipping points and does not include controls for half or quarter tone adjustments. Still it is my preferred starting point for making adjustments.
    You can also try adjust the "Exposure" setting. This will tend to allow you to adjust the "Brightness" and "Contrast" uniformly by centering your color channel histogram but can easily be overdriven. "Brightness" and "Contrast" can, of course, be adjusted individually if you prefer but you may find the "Exposure" control easier to handle where the content is more uniform with regard to shadows and highlights. Lastly, adjustment of any of the previously mentioned controls will usually have some effect on color saturation. While they do not change the actual setting, they do tend to desaturate color as the other controls "lighten" the cast of your frame images. So, don't be surprised if the results "wash out" somewhat and you may need to touch up the saturation. But, once again, go easy as the saturation doe not increase uniformly and tends to "blotch" highlights and/or create color shifts in these areas.
    About the only controls left are the individual color channel levels. I don't normally recommend playing with these arbitrarily as they then to shift the color cast/white balance of your content. As to the White balance itself, the "eyedropper" had little or no effect on the content I tested so I assume the it either did not work as described or the sample white/grey points I used for sampling did not require adjustment. As to the Balance Wheel," it does work well but like the color channel adjustments may cause more harm than help most novice users.

  • Jabber (Movi) 4.4 Mac - Black Image when connecting to Endpoint

    I've noticed that on the Jabber 4.4 for Mac client, when I dial into an endpoint (I use C40, C20, and SX20), occasionally all I see on the client is a solid black image.  The farend does see the person in front of the client.  If you quit the client, and redial the endpoint, it will most likely connect correctly.  I would say about 25% of the time, it requires multiple attempts until the client can display the video.
    I verified that the endpoint was transmitting video.  My search history in VCS shows the call conntected without issue.
    Has anyone seen this?

    have you checked your antivirus? is it blocking something. try to disable the antivirus and check again..

  • Appears a black image when i load icloud in my ipad

       I try to load iCloud and appears only a black image, how do load it right ?

    I don't know what you mean by "load iCloud".  You don't "load" it, you just establish an account with it.  After that everything happens in the background.  Please describe where you see a black image?  On the screentop?  In some app?

  • Missing folders, albums and images when Migrating from iPhoto to Aperture

    I have 3,333 image in iPhoto (v.7.1.3). I'd like to import the entire library into Aperture (v.2.1) and use that primarily to edit and organize the images from here on out. Problem is, when I try to import the iPhoto library from Aperture, it only imports half of the images (1,553 images). I tried deleting the Aperture library and re-importing everything but had the same result. Any suggestions would be appreciated -- I'm eager to get started in Aperture after years of iPhoto.

    Hope we get an answer - I'm in the same situation as you, though I just went from iPhoto to A2.x on an older G5 tower. I've been debating whether to take the time to go through them, reorganize "better" than they were under iPhoto or wait for a more elegant solution...

  • Any solution to pixelated images when zooming?

    Wondering if there is a solution to prevent pdf images on transparent background from pixelating when zoomed in.
    This is a screen capture. There are two knife images. The large white knife is a pdf on a transparent background saved at 108 ppi in photoshop, it is part of a object state/slide show (saved as vector obviously since type is sharp) that fades in. Doesn't seem to matter what size/dimensions I use, it still gets blurry when you pinch and zoom.
    See here:
    The smaller black knife image at top left is also a pdf on transparent background, saved at 108 ppi in photoshop. It is not an object state,etc.
    The knife images look fine at full screen on the iPad, but once you pinch and zoom, both images loose focus and become blurry.
    Any solution to this? The images need to be pdf (or png - which I understand will not scale at all), because they are on transparent backgrounds.
    Thanks!

  • Black image when viewing

    Hi, I have a problem viewing a raw file before I open it up in Photoshop cc. Firstly what i do is open PS. Then from file I chose a folder of choice then I press space bar to view the image before opening it. But the image goes completely black. I open it up with no problems in PS, but its the initial viewing before that goes wrong.
    any help is great..

    You'll have to ask Apple about that, CoverFlow is their feature, powered by their (frequently broken) thumbnail/preview code.
