Solution to chapter markers not showing up in iDVD

I've been having a problem with my chapter markers from FCE not transferring properly in iDVD06. I'd export a QT movie from FCE HD, the chapters would show up fine if I opened the file in QT, but placing the movie in iDVD would bring in the movie sans chapters.
I've been using the "all markers" option in FCE's export window, but today I discovered that I needed to select "chapter markers" instead. When I choose the "Chapter Marker" option, everything imports fine into iDVD.
I haven't tried using markers otherthan chapter markers along with chapter markers, thus I don't know if the "all markers" option would work if I had additonal types of markers present.

You need to toggle on "show overlays" in the canvas and/or viewer display.
You access it via the rightmost icon of the three above the canvas display or from the VIEW menu or with SHIFTOPTIONW

  • Video chapter markers not showing in iTunes

I used Metadata Hootenanny to add chapter markers in a movie.
When I play the movie through Quicktime it shows the pop-up chapter selector, but when i import the movie into iTunes and play it through iTunes, the controls don't show the chapter markers.
I've seen the chapter markers working fine in iTunes for movies purchased in the iTunes Store.
    What am I doing wrong?

  • Premiere CC Chapter markers not frame accurate in Encore CS6

So I just made a video with 30 chapter markers at distinct cuts in the timeline using Premiere CC and exported that to an MPEG-2 video as I would in CS6. After importing the MPEG-2 file into Encore CS6 and making a New Timeline the Chapter Markers do show up but they are now all 3-15 frames early per chapter which also means none of the chapter thumbnails are going to be accurate. It's easy to check this with both programs just compare the timecode number at each chapter point in the timeline of Premiere CC then Encore CS6.
Also noticed that the Add Chapter Marker tool that was in the Premiere CS6 timeline is missing in CC, just the Add Marker tool is there now. Couldn't find a way to add the Add Chapter Marker tool to the timeline group of tools.

The .xmpses file contains the chapter information, at least for CS6 and earlier.  You can test this by removing that file before importing into Encore.  You won't get any chapters.
Not sure where Adobe is putting chapter data for CC, but it must be somewhere because the chapters are there.
So I ran two tests, one from CS6 and one from CC7.  In both cases I added three chapter marks, two where I knew there would not be an I-frame in the exported .m2v, and one where there would be.  Both exports came into Encore with the chapter makers right where I put them, which surprises me because there were no I-frames at two of those points and Encore did not 'legalize' them as I'm accustomed to with my production machine.  (Ran this test on my personal machine.)  I could move the markers off those points, but could not put them back because, like I said, the DVD spec only allows them on I-frames.
I did not burn to test whether or not Encore would move the chapters that weren't on I-frames.  I'd be confused if it didn't, though.

  • Markers Not Showing in Mpeg2

    Hi,
This is a DVD Studio Pro Question that is directly related to FCP and Compressor. Basically I want to have chapter markers on my DVD. My problem is my FCP chapter markers are not showing up in the Mpeg2 file that I insert into DVDSP. Somewhere along the chain, I must be doing something wrong.
    1. Within FCP, I made sure that all my markers were "chapter" markers.
    2. I then exported a Quicktime movie with "DVD Studio Pro markers"
    3. I imported that Quicktime movie into compressor and noticed that there are many blue markers. I then export an Mpeg 2 and AC3 file
    4. I import the Mpeg 2 file in DVDSP. I do not see any markers on the timeline
I'm guessing that I messed up somewhere between #3 and 4. I've looked at all kinds of online documents and tutorials including this:
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/compression_chapter_markersstone.html
I'm at a loss of what to do, and I'm on a deadline... help!
    Alexander

In compressor, are you using one of the Apple presets to generate the m2v file?
If not, make sure the "Add DVD Studio Pro metadata" box in Inspector>Extras is selected. Alernatively just select "Include Chapter Markers only".

  • Chapter name not showing up in Scene Selection

I have an iMovie 9 project that has three chapters.   I've used the Chapter Markers to delineate where they begin and what their names are.
I've sent the finished project to Media Browser and then I go to iDVD to burn the project successfully and all seems well.
The trouble is, the first chapter's name is not showing up in the Scene Selection.   It's just listed as "The Beginning" instead of the name I've given it.  I checked it in the preview function before I burn the DVD, and it's not there, either.  The other two chapters' names show up successfully.
Can anyone help me here?  Thanks.

I just made sure that the Chapter Marker was at the very beginning of the clip, and that seemed to have solved the problem.

  • Markers not showing up from emailed project file.

I couldn't find an asswer to this but for some reason the clip markers that someone painstakingly put in a Premiere project are now not showing up on my end so i can continue working on the project.
The project file was uploaded to Creative Cloud and i then downloaded it.
I have a notion as to why this is, but I'm hoping someone can confirm this and possibly offer a solution to help us out.
I'm working with .mts files as I shoot onto AVCHD.  So, with those .mts files are corresponding .xmp files in the same folder.  My theory is that the markers get written into the .xmp file and not into the project file somehow.  But interestingly, the markers that were put onto sequences and multi-cam interviews remained.
Im hoping that if I replace the .xmp files they will show up again.  Can anyone offer some advice here?
    Thanks!

As noted, Premiere's new Export Markers feature works with only one source at a time. When the Timeline has focus, that could either be the sequence's markers (if no track items are selected) or the markers from a single track item (if only one is selected).
Unless Jim knows some trick that I'm unaware of, there's no way in PPRO to export the markers from all the constituent clips in one go.
If you'd like the ability to export markers from multiple project items, please submit a feature request. The more, the merrier.
The good news is that if you have PPRO CC, you also have Prelude CC, and as noted that app supports exporting markers from multiple selected assets. It gives you the option of writing a separate file for each asset or collecting them all in one file.
CaptainPincone: would you elaborate on what you mean when you say
"the in and out points did not match the markers in and out points" -- when you export markers with a clip is selected in the sequence, the timecodes in the marker export file correspond to the markers' timecodes in the master clip, not in the sequence. (If you want the option of having the sequence timecodes used in this scenario, that would be another feature request.)
"there was no information such as the marker's "Title", or "Comments"? I was the tester on this feature and know of no bugs where any marker's content is not written to the marker export file.

  • Chapter markers not making it to DVD SP

Hi everybody. I don't see chapter markers I expected to find in my DVD SP project. This was my first time placing chapter markers in FC and it was my understanding they would appear in the DVD SP timeline. Here's my workflow:
I exported a sequence from FC that had four chapter markers using 'quicktime movie'/current settings/not self contained/'include DVD SP markers'. Opened in compressor and exported at best settings for 90-minute film for SD DVD with 'include DVD SP metadata' selected. (should I have also selected 'include chapter markers only'?)
I brought the clip into DVD SP and placed it into track one. No markers. Do I have to do something to make DVD SP find the markers? Have I made a mistake?
Note: the chapters show up when I open the .mov file in Quicktime but not when I open the M2v file in Quicktime.

In FCP, how did you create the Chapter Markers? The proper way is to hit the m key twice, then click the CHAPTER button. The markers HAVE TO BE on the Timeline - not on the clips (deselect any clips BEFORE adding Chapter Markers).

  • Chapter markers not appearing in DVDSP

I have a movie in FCP (NTSC, 4:3 SP) with several chapter markers. I exported the movie from FCP as Quicktime with "All Markers" selected. I viewed the file with QT, and the markers showed up. I compressed the movie using compressor. I imported the compressed movie into DVDSP, and the markers didn't show up.
I looked at the various related messages here, and the suggestion to use the uncompressed file to establish the markers sounded good. I imported the uncompressed file, oops, no chapter markers.
I checked my software revisions, and updated Quicktime to 7.1.1. per the Apple site. I re-created the Quicktime file using FCP and imported it, uncompressed, again into DVDSP -- no markers.
I exited everything. I started FCP, created a brand-new project, imported a small clip, set 3 markers, 1 chapter, 1 chapter+compression, 1 chaptercompressionscore. I exported the file as QT with "all Markers" selected. I viewed the file with QT, and the markers are there. I put this QT file into a new project in DVDSP -- no markers showed up at all.
We can ignore Compressor for the time being, as DVDSP doesn't see the markers even if Compressor is not used. The culprit seems to be DVDSP. Is there some DVDSP setting that needs to be set to get it to recognize markers? I've had it work ok in the past, I don't know what's changed.
    thanks for any help!!!

I looked at the various related messages here, and the suggestion to use the uncompressed file to establish the markers sounded good.
I don't know why people post that advice. It's flat out wrong. Sorry you got bad directions.
Anyways, If you're exporting out to DVD and your QuickTime Movie will be compressed via Compressor or DVDSP's internal encoder, do not export using All Markers because that embeds the marker data in a way that DVDSP and Compressor cannot properly parse. If you're going to send to Compressor or DVDSP's internal encoder, select DVD Studio Pro Markers during export from FCP.
Selecting DVDSP Markers exports Chapter, Compression and Cut markers. Cut markers are created by FCP whenever you make a cut in the timeline. With cut markers present, every time your start a new clip - or you simply use the Add Edit command (Control-V) - it's the same as adding a compression marker, in that it greatly improve encoding forcing an I-frame in the GOP.
And, for what it's worth, there is no need to flag a marker as both a chapter and a compression marker - chapter markers are automatically compression markers. They force an I-frame in the GOP structure, just like a compression marker

  • Chapter Markers Not Encoding Correctly

    Greetings:
I saw a similar situation as this in a previous post on here....has anyone had success in finding a solution to the problem?
    Problem:
Chapter Markers with an indicated end jump point of the previous chapter marker do not loop back when triggered during playback; instead the viewer is taken 2 chapter points back etc.
Can't preview or simulate the burn because it crashes DVD SP each time now
    Project Details:
1 Track with various clips expanded for time etc. (if a still image) and broken apart by chapter markers geared for live-action performance
Specific chapter markers are set to have an end jump set to the previous chapter marker to act as a looping video element which a user can advance out of by selecting the next forward chapter on their DVD player
Any thoughts as to why this project encoded weird or ways to avoid the same problem if I remove the build files? I am running ver. 3 and I have done this before without any problem.

    figured out a workaround

  • Chapter markers not working

I have a Quicktime movie created in Final Cut with chapter markers, but they are not being recognized by iDVD. None are anywhere near the beginning or end or each other. The show up and work fine in Quicktime Player.
iDVD is supposed to create a scene selection menu along with the movie start button but it is not happening. I tried exporting the Quicktime with various marker settings, export chapter markers, all markers, and DVD Studio Pro markers. Nothing works.
    Any thoughts?

First repair permissions on your main HD. Then drag the plist for iDVD6 to the trash. Empty it. Then restart the computer. plist looks like this:
    com.apple.iDVD.plist
Now try again to reposition the back button after selecting the buttons pane and checking the box that says "free position."
(You should see a tiny hand in the preview window that looks like a clutched fist. You don't have to actually select the back arrow button but simply move the mouse over it and then keep the left mouse button down to drag it about the preview window to the desired position within the TV safe area).
I'm currently using a Logitech 2 button mouse. If your own apple mouse only has one button, then the above procedure could be a bit more complicated.
Post back and let us know if this helps.

  • FCP video chapter markers not accepted by DVD SPro

When I had FCP chapter markers in the timeline and then used compressor, they appeared in DVD Studio Pro. But in realizing that I couldn't cut out any footage in FCP without ruining all of the markers I had made following that point in the timeline it was suggested that I add chapter markers onto the video itself. The markers were no longer visible as windows in the Canvas, we got them to appear in the Viewer (view-playhead sync-open). BUT... Now, these markers attached to the video (and not the Time line) appear to not be working when I open a compressed sequence in DVD Studio Pro. How can this delemna be solved?

Ok, so if this is true (about "Chapter Markers set in FCP to work in DVD-SP, they HAVE to be set to the Timeline"), does it not seem a little silly for FCP (using latest Studio updates etc) to give people the option of utilizing "chapter" markers set to the video if they don't actually work?
By the way I'm using all of the latest FCS updates and exported using File: Export: Using compressor and then opening up DVD SP and importing assets etc.
Could there not be an easier way rather than having to wait until the VERY end of the editing process to add Chapter markers to the Timeline because otherwise they get all wacked out of sink if you cut out or add any video/audio?

  • Markers not showing up after opening a saved project. Where did they go!?

My first time using Prelude CS6 yesterday and had good success with ingesting, marking clips (into subclips, comments, etc.), saving the marked movies, and them sending the subclips to Premiere. They dumped into Premiere as expected.
However, this morning I started a new project in Premiere and planned on using the same clips I marked up in Prelude. I wanted to do a little more marking so I opened the Prelude project I saved yesterday and the movie files are there but none of the subclips, comments, or other markers are showing up.
The only thing I can think of is that I did not do a rough cut in Prelude, but I don't see why that would mean losing the markers from the source footage.
Am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks...
    -John

    Interesting...
so this morning in preparing to upload a PL project for you, I
decided to try a new test PL project with different footage. The one I
played with this morning ("GrandCanyon_1.plproj" in the Folder
"Prelude_test") seems to work fine! I threw in some markers, saved, closed
PL, re-opened PL and the markers were there.
So I did the same thing using some footage from the project that I posted
about (ingested some footage, placed a sub clip marker, saved, closed,
re-opened), and the markers were gone. Perhaps it has to do with the source
    footage?
Anyhow, I'm uploading the files to my ftp if you want to check them out.
They should  be uploaded by 10am central.
Access info sent in separate email.
    Thanks!

  • Premiere CS4 DVD Chapter Markers Not Exporting

The Encore chapter markers do not appear when I import the files into Encore. I am exporting with the "MPEG2-DVD" preset and importing into Encore.  I tried Dynamic Link in both directions to/from Encore. btw, Dynamic Link "Send to Encore" creates a new Encore project. I want to add to an existing project.
I see no settings in the Media Encoder prefs or in the Main Concept "H.264" preset. This used to be automatic. What am I doing wrong?

Make sure you used Encore DVD Markers in your Pr sequence and not just ordinary sequence markers.
Make sure you named the markers and didn't leave the Name field blank.
Make sure you export XMP Metadata like so:
And to add more than one Pr sequence to En, or to add Pr sequences to an existing En project, you have to start from inside En.  Open the En project and use the File | Adobe Dynamic Link command.

  • First play DVD chapter titles not showing correct chapter name

    Hi All,
I know I'm probably missing something obvious, so hopefully someone can point out my error pretty quickly.
I have one track set to first play with 10 chapter markers, all with specific names. The hope is to be able to insert the burned DVD into any player/computer and have it first play with the ability to proceed chapter to chapter with the correct text/title appearing. For example, instead of the title "Chapter 1" we would instead, like the client to see the title "Introduction".
I did click the "embed text data" button in the Advanced tab and that did not change anything.
Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!!
    Thanks!
    Kristal

I just made sure that the Chapter Marker was at the very beginning of the clip, and that seemed to have solved the problem.
