Solution to "iPodService Error" issue while installing iTunes 10 for Window
This instruction applies to Windows XP:
Un-install iTunes 10...follow Apple's instructions to un-install iTunes 10.
Right Click on <My Computer> icon on your desktop
Select <Properties> from context menu
Select <Advanced> tab
Click <Settings> under Startup and Recovery
Click <Edit> under "To edit the startup options file...."
The boot.ini file should now be opened in Notepad. Check and update the following flag to match:
/noexecute=optin
Re-install iTunes 10
The process should be normal without the "ipodservice error messages".
It worked for me...Good Luck !
Someone had already posted this solution in one of the threads, so credit is due there, not here

Error message while installing QT for Windows 7.1.3
While installing Quicktime I get the message:
Error reading from file: C:\Program Files\Quicktime\QTSystem\QTJava.zip. Verify the file exists and that you can access it.
Abort Retry Ignore
I checked the directory and the file is there. Clicking Retry does not seem to help. If I Ignore the installation proceeds but the player doesn't work properly. I have to Abort installation for now.let's try getting a QuickTime 7.1.3 installer log to the Apple Engineers for a look.
first, doublecheck that all itunes and quicktime has been removed from the PC as per:
Removing iTunes and QuickTime for Windows
now download and save a copy of the standalone QT 7.1.3 installer to your hard drive:
Quicktime 7.1.3 Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention iTunes
1. Open a command prompt window. (Start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return.)
2. Drag and drop QuickTimeInstaller.exe onto the window so that the full pathname of the file is at the command line prompt.
3. Type in a space, then the following line:
/l*v C:\log.txt
4. Hit return.
5. The installer will create a log file:
C:\log.txt
Find that file and send it as an attachment to this email address.
in the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
- A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
- The username you are using in the thread
- The version of QuickTime you are using or trying to use
- the version of Windows you are using (mention service packs)
- A concise description of the issue you are seeing
- The exact text of the error message you are seeing
(probably best to explicitly mention that you're attaching a QT log, too. most of the logs Roy gets through that channel are iTunes logs.) -
I was promted to upgrade to the new itunes version today (11.0.2.26), but wish I never had as the previous version worked just fine!! I have been unable to install the new version and keep getting the message about there being a problem with the Windows Installer package. I tried following the instructions on this support pages on removing all Apple programs but that didn't work either!! I have Windows 7 64 bit and am close to throwing my PC out of the window!! Quicktime will not re-install correctly either...
Any suggestions will be most gratefully receivedJust in case, let's try a standalone AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi install.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe, and select "Extract to iTunesSetup". WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup".
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi to do a standalone ASU install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If not, what error message do you get? (Precise text, please.) -
In answering this, B Noir had it almost correct. What he missed was that in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData \S-1-5-18\Components one must also make sure that when right clicking on components/permissions, that the active user is allowed Full Control.
Many thanks for the heads up, Mac. In recent times, I've also seen that reported during a troubleshoot of a Safari variation of the issue:
Re: Trouble installing Safari Update On Windows
Plausibly we might be looking at two different subvariations of the issue.
Doublechecking something ... did your key (in the error message) have the UNKNOWN\Components\[LongStringOfLettersAndNumbers]\[LongStringOfLettersAndNumbe rs] structure? Or was it just a UNKNOWN\Components\[LongStringOfLettersAndNumbers] (no slash and no second alphanumeric string), like rona's key? -

I can't install itunes for windows get error message 5
i can't install itunes for windows get error message 5
I've been having the same issues for the past year and a half. I've spent 6-8months trying to figure it out. Went to various Itunes stores with pictures on my Iphone per each step so I could relay all information that I'd come across and the personnel were less than helpful, after conversations that would sometimes last an hour between myself, employees and managers they always came back to "simply uninstall then reinstall" when I told them for the thousanth time that I've done that multiple times and my errors are happening while trying to reinstall it they act stumped and say "well then I'm not sure, I'll give you a call if I figure it out" and disappear. I've been very disatisfied at the lack of support from Apple and if Android to piece together a reletively reliable phone I'd switch to them in a heartbeat. I'll follow this question incase someone can answer this, but I don't have much faith.
BTW, wifey has Windows 7 running on the laptop and my phone syncs just fine to that and no trouble with itunes, just mine (desktop). -
Trying to install iTunes for Windows Vista. Says "successfully installed," but when I try to open iTunes, I get error messages, "unable to locate componant AVFoundationCF.dll not found," then "Error 7 Windows error 126." I have tryed to reinstall twice with the same result.
Repair Apple Application Support.
START/CONTROL PANEL/PROGRAMS N FEATURES/highlight APPLE APPLICATION SUPPORT, then click the REPAIR button -

Cannot install iTune for Windows
Hi, I just bought an iPod nano and I tried to install iTune for windows 64 bit but I always get an error message concerning a Boujour service that it seems I don't have the rights to start.
Here are some of the installation events

Les informations suivantes étaient incluses avec l’événement :
WSARecvMsg failed (87)

What a waste of time and money
I hope you have a solution cause this device is completely useless without that software.
Thank youIn my case, netlimiter was conflicting with the bonjour service. Probably identifying it as a threat. Uninstalling netlimiter solved my installation problem but now I need an alternative to netlimiter
