Solution to sql developer import problem - nullpointerexception

This isn't really a question, but I thought I should get the record of my tribulations posted so someone else won't have to work as hard as I did.
Importing from a spreadsheet that has a blank column will give 'an error has occurred' and a stacktrace like :
java.lang.NullPointerException
     at oracle.dbtools.raptor.dialogs.importdata.ExcelImportDialog.getStringValue(ExcelImportDialog.java:291)
     at oracle.dbtools.raptor.dialogs.importdata.ExcelImportDialog.populateModel(ExcelImportDialog.java:347)
     at oracle.dbtools.raptor.dialogs.importdata.ExcelImportDialog.displayExcelDialog(ExcelImportDialog.java:148)
     at
Getting rid of that column, should get you past this point and to the import wizard.

The import from xls feature has been rewritten from the scratch and a new "Import Data" wizard has been made available in SQLDEV 1.5 EA3, that is yet to be announced. This should take care of the blanks in xls. The new wizard will also support import from cvs files. Watch for EA3 announcement to try out the new Import Data wiz.

  • How to solve Oracle SQL Developer connection problem ?

    Folks,
Hello. I am using Oracle Database 11gR1. The Database Control Console https://localhost.localdomain:1158/em works correctly. I can create a Database and a table successfully.
My OS is Linux and connects to internet successfully.
In order to run SQL statements. we need to use Oracle SQL Developer. I connect Oracle SQL Developer in the following way:
Connection Name: DB1 (this is my database name as well)
Username: SYS (this is the user name I used to login to the Console)
Password: SYS (this the password used to login to the Console)
    Connection Type: Basic
    Host Name: localhost
    Port: 1158
SID: DB1 (this is created during installing the Database)
But the error message comes up: "Status: Failure - IO exception Connection Reset."
Can any folk tell me how to solve Oracle SQL Developer connection problem ?

password: enter_your_correct_password given at the time of oracle installation
role: select sysdba if you would connect as sysdba else select normal for users other than sys
hostname: enter your oracle server hostname or ip address eg:- 192.168.11.12
to find the hostname open terminal/command prompt in oracle installed machine
    type ---> hostname

  • SQL Developer Import Excel problem

I just recently installed SQL Developer (1.1.3).
I created a table with 4-columns all char datatype.
I tried to import an excel file into this table. Checked Header Row )1st excel record is header) and move all Available columns into Selectedcolumns. All my excel records are shown on the data preview. But when I click on [Insert], it gave me a message: No columns selected for insert.
    When I viewed the DML: insert into TBLCLOSETIMETABLE (Choose Data Type,Choose Data Type,Choose Data Type,Choose Data Type) VALUES('January','Thursday, February 01, 2007','Payroll','1st Wk');
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I was able to "successfully" import excel files. I did not know I had to edit/map on the Data Types tab.
Now I have a different problem where I have my date in excel as 01-Feb-07 and the
    Data Preview pane shows 39,114.
I was not able to successfully import this column.
Again, any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • SQL Developer import from Excel or CSV not creating new table

I am sure I have done this with previous version of SQL Developer. I am now running 1.5.4 with patches update from 5/27/2009. I am running on Windows XP. When I start the import wizard I get to the point were the varify button appears. I click Verify. Everything is successful. The next button is grayed out. The send to worksheet is not checked. I press the finish button and the new table is not created.
I don't get any error message. I refresh my table list and the new table is not created. I can create new tables using SQL Developer so I don't think it can be a privelege problem. I know I did this a few weeks ago. I am not sure what version of SQL Developer I was running. But I have updated to the latest and greatest since then.

I wanted to import and use my table data from MS Excel 2010 in SQL developer Version 3.1.05.
I was told that SQL does not import .xls data. For that reason, I was searching for a script which Import data from excel to SQL developer. I tried many different forums DBS blogs. Then eventually I found the solution inside the SQL developer itself.
In your Editor window, There would be options like,
    1. Columns | Data | Constraints |Grants | Sta...... "so on"
    2. In second row, you can find a drop box with certain table options. Select the last option "Import Data"
    THERE YOU GO.
do accordingly to your need and you will get the data as well its scripts.
I hope this would help you all. Thanks. :-)

  • SQL Developer Installation Problems

    Hi,
We are trying to find a workable alternative to TOAD and have tried to install SQL Developer with not much success.... I think I am just about to give up but hope this last attempt to post for help can create a miracle.
I would appreciate very much if any one knows of a comprehensive document out there that can help trouble shoot the installation problems.
Let me give you the hardware and software versions first and then the problems.
    1) SQL Developer tried: sqldeveloper-1.2.1.3213-no-jre and sqldeveloper-1.2.1.3213
    2) JRE tried: JRE 1.5 and JRE 6 (C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03)
    3) Window: XP Professional version 2002 Service pack 2
    4) Hardware: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80 GHz, 1.98 GB of RAM
    Problems:
    1) SQL Developer could not find native JDBC. I don't understand why, despite all the variables set in Oracleclient10g_basic in the registry, SQL Developer did not seem to be able to find a 10g client on a network drive. I have to install 10g client directly onto my pc (C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1) to solve this problem.
    2) SQL Developer abruptly disappeared after database login.
I was able to connect and log into an Oralce 10g database with TNS Connect Identifier approach. There were objects (tables, views, etc) showed up briefly on the left hand side of the SQL Developer and then it just completely disappeared without even an error message or a tearful good-bye.
The only thing I can find is this error log about EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. After hours searching through OTN for possible mentioning of this error with SQL Developer, I found nothing so far.
Why is it so difficult to install SQL Developer? Are there a set of un-spoken pre-requisites that has to be satisfied before it can be installed properly? If so, what are they? Path system variable? Registry? Anything else?
Here's the complete EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION error log:
    # An unexpected error has been detected by Java Runtime Environment:

Is this a java problem? SQL Developer problem? Or something else?
    Thanks in advance,
    a TOAD lover

The problem you are seeing (the EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION) is a result of a version mismatch between the JDBC driver being used by SQL Developer and the Oracle client that is found on the path.
This issue only occurs when trying to use the OCI version of the JDBC driver. The simplest fix is to switch to using the basic connection type and thus using the thin (all Java) JDBC driver. As no Oracle client is required in this case, the version mismatch won't be an issue.
However, the connection approach you are using should work, and if you wish to try to sort out the problems there, we should be able to further diagnose the underlying cause of the version mismatch.
To do this, I would need to see what SQL Developer thinks are the potential Oracle client installs, as well as which install it ends up picking. Can you copy/paste the output in the Log Window (Logging Page) that is present after SQL Developer starts (but before you attempt to connect to any database)? There should be a whole series of entries like 'Checking for ORACLE_HOME environment variable' and 'Checking JDBC driver at <some path>'
These log entries are output by SQL Developer as it tries to sort out the various bits of information about Oracle client installs and thus give a peek at the selection logic being used.
Oh, and also - the value of your PATH variable would be useful as well. It may be that there is an Oracle client install on the PATH that supersedes the install SQL Developer is finding via the registry or ORACLE_HOME variable.

  • SQL Developer compilation problems

Hi, I'm having problems with SQL Developer.
Basically, I can only carry out 3 compilations (3 of the same object, or one each of different objects) before SQL Developer gives me an out-of memory error:
    Source:oracle.javatools.db.AbstractSchemaObject
    Error : java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap spacebuilding KRM_UPDATE_ARCHIVE_DES
I then can't do anything except log out and back in - very annoying!
Setup detailed below, any help gratefully received!
I also periodically get the following when trying to edit a stroed plsql object:
java.io.IOException: exception loading FUNCTION PORTALS.GET_STRATUS_COMPANY_ID@Dev Portals

Hi Jim - thanks for your help.
I'm using update 10. The output from the console is below - The issue was the preferences I imported were set to Windows look and feel, so I've resolved that, but the new version behaves exactly like the old version. Do you know if the dev team are regulars in here, or if there is an alternate route to report this (the original problem) to them?
    Cheers,
    Stuart

This is a bug to resolve, Oracle should fix this error for OS 64 bits, on Windows 7 or other. Thanks

  • Partial solution for sql developer 2.1 EA2 and 9i db

While this bug resolved, I have found a solution to use sql developer 2.1 EA2 and db 9i.
The solution has been to mix two post:
1.- Re: 2.1: Packages and compilation icons
2.- Issue with viewing packages in SQL Developer EA2
The problem seems to be acces to the tables ALL_PLSQL_OBJECT_SETTINGS and DBA_PLSQL_OBJECT_SETTINGS , deleting the reference in the xml file that it's at the post 1, I can see the Packages, Procedures and Functions of db 9i.

In SQL Developer 2.1, the CVS and Perforce extensions will be available through the Check for Updates facility. We will update the Check for Updates this week, so that you can use them with SQL Developer EA2.

  • SQL Developer usage problem

    Hi All
I have installed sql developer V 4.1 to my computer and all the necessary java apllications have been installed. When i opened the program menu screens can only be shown when i get my cursor over it as shown in the below. İ have format my OS system because i think this can be because of my region and registy settings. So at the final  i have a fresh Windows 8.1 Eng X64 Ent edition. and up to dated java version but same problem.
Please give an opinion to me
    Thanks.

    Hi Jeff,
I would like add some input:
I have similar issue, but in different case.
SQL Developer installed on real Win7 machine (no virtual)  and uses the appropriate jdk (latest in each case: 7 for v4.1 EA1 and 8 for v4.1.EA2).
It works fine and correct on the desktop, but when I try to continue my task over Remote Desktop its behavior is like as the described one.
And I have feeling that happens during switches from v3.x to v4.x (sorry don't remember exactly).
Hope it helps in your investigation.
    Best Regards

  • SQL*Loader Import Problem

    Hi,
I am trying to import some data from .txt file to a table in Oracle DB using TOAD- Sql*Loader - Import wizard. I was able to load all the files successfully. All the files are pipe(|) delimited. But in one of the files, when the values for the field is NULL - it is populated as ' ' (space), I have trouble in loading these files.
Suppose I have the fields f1, f2, f3, f4 in the .txt file. And say I have the data as following (and delimter as pipe(|)):
    f1 f2 f3 f4 f5
    r1|01|xyz|123|abc
    r2|02| |234|bcd * 3rd column being null(space)
    r3| |sam|345|def * 2nd field being null(space)
    |04|ram|456|efg * 1st field being null(space)
    |05|abc|567|gef * 1st column being null
I have problems loading the records 4,5 using Sql*loader, as the first field being null, the data is not being loaded properly. Is there any alternative way of loading this file into my table. Please help me.

Pl post OS and database versions, along with the contents of the loader control file and the loader log file with the errors.

  • SQL Developer: import from Excel bug

SQL Developer 1.1.2.25 Build MAIN 25.79
This is a test for import from Excel.
    Test table:
    create table bla
    (x number null,
    y varchar2(1) null);
    Excel data:
    x y
    1 a
    2 b
    3
    SQL Deveoper generates:
Error at line 3:insert into BLA (X,Y) VALUES(3,'NULL')
    IMPORT into table BLAcomplete
    Inserted 2rows.
    Failed to insert 1rows.
SQL Error:ORA-12899: value too large for column "BCRCEK"."BLA"."Y" (actual: 4, maximum: 1)
I think there is a bug, because there must be generated NULL without apostrophe.
    insert into BLA (X,Y) VALUES(3,NULL);

    Hi Barry,
       That's[b] GREAT NEWS !!!.
So, i just update current release 1.1.2.25 to 1.1.2.25.79 ?

  • SQL Developer install problems for Windows 7 Home edition

    Hi there,
I understand Windows 7 64-bit is not supported for oracle 11gR2 but I installed it anyway.
    This is not my problem.
I am trying to install SQL Developer and am getting this error when I click on the set up:
Unable to launch the Java Virtual machine, located at path:
    C:\Program Files(x86)Java\jdk1.6.0_21\bin\msvcr71.dll
When I check the version of my java it is correctly displaying 1.6.0_21 for my 64 bit.
I read that you need the 32 bit one installed as well and I do. In my Program Files there is a java and a \jdk1.6.0_21 folder. In the bin directory it does not have this .dll:
    msvcr71.dll
Is that the problem, because i have heard of other people getting sql developer working on their Windows 7 home laptops but they are old posts and I'm not getting any reply.
I also changed the Environmental variable for the path, such as:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_21
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_21\bin
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_21 /bin
and none of the 3 above worked for me either.
    Any suggestions are appreciated!

I unzipped the sql developer download to C:\Windows and it unzipped fine. I went into my folder of sql developer, double clicked the sql developer.exe and it asked for the path for java. I clicked Browse and the default was C:\Program Files(x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_21\bin so I chose the java from this folder. It accepted the argument, tried to start sql developer, and came up with the same error, so something is still not right that I am not understanding??

  • SQL Developer video problems on Parallels (Win XP)

I am running ORACLE 11G, APEX and SQL Developer on my MacBook pro. Initially I installed 1.5.4 SQL Developer and I stared having problems when editing SQL scripts.
Edit window, blacks out the lines which are not being viewed. Very annoying when working on complex scripts.
Although I've reported this problem to Parallels support, given that SQL Developer is the only application causing the problem is making me think it is more likely an issue with SQL Developer.
Since then I went back to 1.5.1 version and having same problem.
Any body else having this problem?
    I might try 1.5.4 with patch #2 . . .

I will post this info to help people who may have similar problem.
The work around I found is to run Parallels in full-screen mode.
Parallels support haven't provided a fix for this yet.

  • SQL Developer paste problem for large text in Linux

    Hello,
I have a problem. I cannot paste large text (> 5000 lines) into the editor of a clob column. Pasting in general works. I mean I can paste the whole content e.g. to gedit or I can paste partially the text into the sql developer editor but not as a whole.
Colleagues on a Mac can paste the text into the editor. So it should not be about DB settings.
Can anyone tell me which setting I have to change?

  • Notes on Sql Developer - Importing - XLS

This isn't really a question, but I thought I should get the record of my tribulations posted so someone else won't have to work as hard as I did.
Please note when using import in sql dev - first, the file MUST be a xls formated BINARY file. I received a file with the extension xls, but it was actually a tab delimited csv, and the only message import gave me was : 'an error has occurred' , and then a stack trace with :
java.io.IOException: Invalid header signature; read 664572811392150337, expected -2226271756974174256
         at org.apache.poi.poifs.storage.HeaderBlockReader
A ascii csv would cause this since it doesn't have the binary header. Incidentally, poi is a java (apache) library for reading microsoft file formats.

You can try changing the column in the excel to general datatype before you attempt to load using sql developer.
    alternate way...
You can save the excel file as .csv file. Once saved you should be able to use the sql*loader to load the data.
    the sqlldr command for online
    sqlldr userid control=test.ctl log=test.log bad=test.bad data=test.csv discard=test.txt
the test.ctl should be as follows
    load data
    infile 'test.csv'
    into table constraint_chk
    fields terminated by ','
    (column1 char(10),
    column2 date,
    column3 number) ;
please let me know, if you need more info...
