SOLUTION TO Time Capsule and extend wireless network using AEBS, Printers..

Hello GUYS
I find the solution: at least I have extended wireless using TC and old AEBS.
: well everybody have same problems to initialize second AEBS, and set it up.
OK follow this steps:
put next to each other TC (time capsule) and AEBS (airport extreme) -> switch AEBS off
If you followed installation TC correctly it should work without any problem.
SETING UP TC PART 1
pres in finder Command + Shift + U =then click Airport utility
set your TC with manual.
On piece of paper record Airport ID:
Click on TIME CAPSULE
I recommend change name not to use deffault long name for TC. Simply call it TC if you want. Set password.
In wireless. Write a name of your Network, keep it simple TC627 what ever. Write it down on paper. security WPA2 personal and password.
Update. and close utility
End of part 1
Part 2:
AEBS setup.
Switch AEBS on: No need to switch off TC
Press reset button for more than 5 sec. so everything is restore to factory settings.
-> in the bar top click wireless and select AEBS. You have to do this otherwise Airport utility will not recognise AEBS.
When you are done. Command shift U
Click airport utility. and manual setup.
-> write down the Airport ID.
Set up your AEBS, name something simple so you know what it is. Password and security.
Here do yourself favor use the same passwords as on TC and security.
NOW ->
click Wireless.
*Wireless network has to be same as on TC.*( it is on the paper)
Select Participate in wireless network
Radio mode b,g compatible or only N it is up to you.
I setup WPA2Personal again with the same password( same on TC)
Click WDS
Select WDS remote
select Allow wireless clients
and now write the TC airport ID into WDS main: number (it is on your paper)
Update.
switch off utility.
no go to right top and change airport back to TC.
Go to manual
Click Wireless:
Select Participate in WDS Network
Click WDS: wds mode to Main
allow wireless clients: and write into WDS remotes AEBS ID, (it is on the paper).
and update.
both airports will restart.
and you are extended.
You made it. Go to Utility Cmd,shift, U and you should be able to see both airports.
Now what you have to do is to take AEBS to different place.
Put it somewhere in second room. Go back to your computer. Leave it for couple of minutes. 10 -15 is ok.
to make sure your TC can find AEBS. If not TC will indicate by flashing green and orange. = >AEBS has to be closer.
correct is that TC has still green light.
Before you start with time machine: read what files to include
hope it helps.

  • Problems using time capsule to extend wireless network

    Hi all,
For some months I had to move to Germany for work (I'm from Italy, sorry for my English).
I am sharing internet with some other people, the wi-fi router is in their apartment, so basically I don't have access.
As the signal is strong enough only in one room I would like to use my time capsule to extend it also in the other rooms.
But when I try to extend it, my macbook pro connects to the network I would like to extend and the time capsule is not seen anymore.
To see the time capsule again in the airport utility i have to reset it to factory default.
    Do you have any idea?
The wireless network is WPA2 protected, the provider is the German "Unity Media".

As the signal is strong enough only in one room I would like to use my time capsule to extend it also in the other rooms.
Apple's "extend" feature will only work if the Time Capsule is "extending" the wireless signal from another Apple wireless router. In other words, the "extend" feature is not compatible with wireless routers from other manufacturers.
You will need to connect the Time Capsule to the wireless router using a wired Ethernet connection.  Connect from one of the LAN <-> ports on the wireless router to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule.  Then, you can configure the Time Capsule to provide a separate wireless network for your use.

  • How do i use my time capsule and extend the network with airport express

I have a new iMac and Time Capsule, how do i extend the network with airport express. My time capsule does have a guest net work, and logins and passwords? I am no computer person. So for me it would have to be spelled out.

Use the search as this has been done to death ..
Bob Timmons is the expert on this.. look at his answers here.

This has been automated in the v6 utility. I am used to doing it manually in v5 utility which is also fairly easy.
Apple doco is also good to read.

    Note.
You cannot extend the guest network unless everything is up to date 7.6.3 firmware. And that is only with the TC as the main router in the network.
All apple routers can be configured as the main wireless or as the extend wireless.. so don't worry if a post uses express or extreme or TC.. they are for wireless, the same thing.

  • Time Capsule to extend wireless network

I'm looking to purchase a Time Capsule, with the idea in mind of extending the wireless coverage of my existing network.
I'm currently using a Virgin Media SuperHub, however the signal does not seem to reach my bedroom so I have intermittent wifi on my iPhone.
I already have a wired gigabit switch in my room straight from the SuperHub.
So basically I'm interested in knowing if I plugged a Time Capsule in to my gigabit switch, would I be able to set it up bridged with my current network to basically extend the signal & use it to back up my Macbook Pro as well?
And if so, what's the best way to go about it?

Yes, that is the best way.. you are not extending the wireless signal.. you are creating a secondary AP .. this is called roaming.
    Setup in the document here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4260
The fact your primary router is not Apple in this case is irrelevant.
You bridge the TC.. and setup wireless to the same SSID and Security and password. This then allows a roaming network.

  • What's the best way to use Time Capsule through Extended Wireless Network?

I am operating four computers, three Apples and a PC.  All the Apples use Snow Leopard.  I have a large house where the cable company's modem and internet access is located downstairs at the far back of the house.  That is where I have a 2Tb 802.11n Time Capsule (TC) connected to the modem by ethernet cable.  My iMac is there, connected to the TC by ethernet cable.  In the middle of the house, also downstairs, I have an Airport Extreme (802.11n) operating as a wireless bridge.  Upstairs in the front of the house (very far from the TC and closer but not very close to the AE) I have a home office.  That is where my other two Apples--a MacBook Pro and a MacBook Air--are usually located.  The PC is located in a bedroom directly above the TC and wirelessly connects to it.  At all locations, I get four radio signal strength bars.  However, I am not sure that the AE is doing anything, because I get four bars regardless of whether the AE is plugged in, or not.  When it is turned on, Airport Utility on all computers shows both the TC and the AE, but I have not been able to find which Airport ID I am actually connected to.
From my home office I do temporarily lose my internet connection from time to time each day, but the connection recovers usually within seconds.  I assume this reflects occasional interference or other loss of wireless signal in the distant home office, although I do not see the radio bars diminish to less than the four bars.
All three Apples are set up to use the same TC for backup into Time Machine.  However, I have been getting errors on the laptops operating in the home office (a long way from the TC and perhaps connecting directly over wireless or perhaps wirelessly through the AE bridge.  Some messages are to the effect of being unable to backup, and others more recently report errors.  I think that either due to connection interruptions or merely by suspending or turning off the computer while in the middle of backing up, errors in the Time Machine files were created.  I have been unable to delete more than a few of the 8Mb sparsebundle bands so that I can completely get rid of one of the sparsebundles for the MacBook Pro.  I was able to get rid of the other sparsebundle for that computer and also the sparsebundle for the MacBook Air.  I am reluctant to erase the entire TC, because it has been working for the directly connected (by ethernet cable) iMac sitting right next to the TC.
So, I am wondering what is the experience of others who are trying to use TC successfully from computers located a long distance from the TC with either a direct wireless connection or a bridged wireless connection through an AE or other bridge.
And does anyone have good ideas about how to delete the sparsebundles effectively?  I read the various questions and answers in the support community, but so far nothing that I have tried based on those messages seems to work.  It seems that when all the Time Machines are set to "Off" and the sparsebundles are expanded to show the individual bands, we ought to be able to delete them fairly expeditiously.  Sometimes, I can delete one band fairly quickly, but then the second band will hang forever.  More often, I can't even delete the first band.

Thank you, Bob.  I followed the procedure you stated.  My AE is working.  I did register its BSSID when I put my laptop next to it.  This is also the BBSID I am getting when in my home office at the far end of the house from the TC.  This means I am using the extended bridge AE when working and trying to use the automated backup feature in Time Machine.  Do you think I should turn off Time Machine on these laptops when they are in the home office, and bring them into the room with the TC occasionally to have a better connection (wireless to TC or by connecting an ethernet cable) when trying to make Time Machine backups for them?
Interestingly (in contrast to the exact match of BBSID's for my AE), when I compared the BSSID for my TC in Airport Utility to the BBSID of the TC using the option key and the fan shaped Airport icon, the BBSID's matched except for the last two digits.  In Airport Utility, they are 2F.  In the fan shaped Airport icon they are 30.
Also, the AE signal, being centrally located on the first floor of the house, seems to be the one most in use.  When I walked my laptop away from the AE all the way back to the TC, the laptop automatically switched over to the TC only once.  Most of the time, the laptop is still connecting wirelessly with the AE.  To switch back to the TC, I have to turn Airport off, and then turn it back on again.
I don't know how efficient or inefficient the Time Machine is when connecting to the TC indirectly through an AE bridge.

  • Time Capsule and Extreme Wireless network BROKEN !!!! PLEASE HELP

    Hello All,
Anyones help on this would be greatly appreciated I am actually starting to loose sleep over this issue.
I have a Mac Mini Server (MM) running Lion (it's a storage thing), 1st Generation Time Capsule (TC) and a Airport Extreme (APX) the first one of the square TC looking one).
So due to living with friends I created my own little network, the MM is upstairs in my room with an ethernet connection to my TC for a quick backup and then downstairs the APX is plugged into the router (Sky Broadband), created myself a little network everyone was happy.
I had to move out for a few months took all the apple gear to the new house plugged everything PING!!!! there is my network, not had to do anyhting make any changes or anything the only thing different was the APX was plugged into a Virgin Media router.
So I moved back after a few months to the place mentioned in paragraph 3 and it has all gone belly up in a mojor way. The network I had originally built is no longer visible, I could not find the devices in the Airport Utility bad times all round. I did a soft reset on the TC and a soft reset on the APX nothing! I did a hard reset on the APX and a hard reset on the TC nothing!
I have used an ethernet connection between the TC and the APX and can pick up both of the devices (happy days you think), go through the montions in Airport Utility setup the devices and a new wireless netwrok whihc is then exteneded, then unplug the ethernet cable BOOM the devices are nolonger seen in Airport Utility.
The interesting thing is I can still the the network created on the TC and the APX on the mac, iPad and iPhone but when I try and connect to the network (whihc has full signal stregnth) I either get a conection time out error or a unable to connect tot he netowkr error.
Please, Please, Please can somone help, I am not aware of any major updates, damage, droppage of kit or anything.
    Kind Regards,
    Ray

The bottom line here is that it is always a good idea to reset your routers back to factory default settings and re-configure the network again when you make a change in location or in Internet service providers.
That's the best advice that I can offer for your current issues.
True, you could go with a "try this, try that" approach and possibly get things working that way. but this will likely take a lot more time and produce more headaches than simply starting over again.
Of course it is possible that you may receive other advice that tells you exactly what to do in a few simple steps...,so depending on your schedule to get the network back up and running, you may wish to wait for other suggestions.

  • Time Capsule and Existing Wireless Network

I've previously used time machine to back up my G5 & Powerbook to separate external hard disks. I've just bought time capsule so that I could back up both computers to the same drive.
However, when powering on the Time Capsule device it is not visible on my existing network (called Wireless LAN) and instead it seems to have created a separate network called Apple Network b73829.
If I switch to this network I can see the Time Capsule device and it is also visible in Time Machine preferences but I cannot access the internet or any of my other wireless devices (Extreme Base Station etc.) which form the Wireless LAN network; I must switch back to this network if I want internet access.
What I don't want to do at this stage is replace my existing base station with the time capsule device; I just want to use it for backing up wirelessly.
I have reset the device several times now but it just will not join this existing network - what am I doing wrong?
    Many thanks & regards,
    Cliff
    Brighton, UK

OK, so I have done this and it's made no difference. The new network Apple Network b73829 is still present alongside Wireless LAN.
I can only access Time Capsule if I switch to the new network, with the resulting loss of internet access from my Powerbook and, if I switch back to Wireless LAN I regain internet access but cannot see Time Capsule.
Although I just want to use Time Capsule to back up I have tried to connect it to my wireless LAN using the Join Existing Network on Airport Utility (even though I've been told I don't need to do this for Time Machine) but it has failed each time. After entering the password and wireless password information etc. and pressing update the Time Capsule device does re-start but there is ALWAYS an error message that says the device cannot be found and I should check that I am close to it (it's 3 feet away) or I should connect via Ethernet. If I connect via Ethernet it seems to disable the wireless functionality that I bought the device for.

just installed a new time capsule and i want to use my airport express to extend my wireless range....time capsule working with existing devices at this time...but i am not able to get airport utility to recognize the airport express.....????

Temporarily connecting your AirPort Express to one of the Time Capsule's Etherent LAN <-> ports...as LaPastenagure suggests....is always a good way to setup and configure other network devices.
If you want to configure the Express using wireless, remember that the Express broadcasts a default wireless signal with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx. You must log on to this network first....no password is required....then open AirPort Utility to "see" the AirPort Express.

They said I need to change my settings to NAT settings. I haven't been able to figure out or find anything. I have also spoken to Apple Support on the phone for hours without being able to figure out how to do this ( i don't think he knew much either lol.) Please help me because I've got about 15-20 devices in my house that require to be connected to the internet and this is just making things ridiculously slow and painful for me.
    Thanks!

It is on DHCP & NAT under router mode yet my isp is still the one issuing ip addresses to my devices instead of the router issuing them

I have over 250G backed up and I really don't want to reset everything and start again.
Not sure what you mean here.
A reset will not affect any of the data on the Time Capsule hard drive.  You would have to perform a completely separate and very deliberate Erase Disk operation for that to occur.
I'm not recommending that you perform a default reset, but it is an option if there is really nothing else to try.
I don't know if what you are seeing is a Mavericks issue or not, since I refuse to use any new software until at least the first major update with fixes comes along.
Another user may be able to offer more input on Mavericks.

Replace the Time Capsule with one that has a larger hard drive. Or erase the one you have and start a new set of backups or backup one of the computers to a different backup drive.

i was using time capsule to extend a network.  now i want it to be the primary base station.  how do i convert this?

Thanks for the info. Since this is a cable modem, you will need to fully reset it so that it will associate correctly with the Time Capsule when it is reconnected.
I don't have the manual for your Ubee model handy, but most modems will reset if you power them down completely. That means pulling the power cord from the back of the device or unplugging from the wall. Leave the modem powered off at least 30 minutes...longer will not hurt a bit.
Next, perform a Factory Default Reset on the Time Capsule per this document:
Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule FAQ
After the modem has been powered down and Time Capsule has been reset, connect an Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port (circle icon) on the Time Capsule.
Power up the modem and let it run for 2-3 minutes by itself
Then power up the Time Capsule and let it run a minute or two
Next, open AirPort Utility and configure the Time Capsule to "Create a wireless network". Let us know what operating system you are using on your Mac or PC if you have additional questions or need more details on this.

Are you running 7.3.1, when I did what you were trying everytime I turned on the wireless encryption it could no longer find the time capsule when I rebooted the time capsule. It worked fine once I left it long enough that it found the fact that the Time Capsule had an upgrade to 7.3.1
Once I got the upgrade in the Time Capsule, the system worked fine.

  • Can time capsule boost the wireless network without beeing connected with cabel, hence wirelessly?

Can time capsule boost the wireless network without beeing connected with cabel, hence wirelessly?

Yes, providing that the wireless network has been created by another Apple "n" router.
The "extend a wireless network" feature on the Time Capsule is not compatible with devices from other manufacturers.

    Airport gets it address DHCP.

Funny how I can ping the Extreme but the Hard Ethernet ports dont seem to work correctly.
When the AirPort Extreme is configured to "Join" a wireless network, the Ethernet ports are not enabled.
Oddly, the AirPort Express has a special feature that will allow it to to "Join" virtually any wireless network.....and the Ethernet port can be enabled. So, an Express would work for your purpose to provide an Ethernet connection to the media player. This assumes that the Express is located where it can receive a strong wireless signal from your main router.
Note that the Express will not provide any additional wireless coverage when it "Joins".
