Solution to "unable to resolve host" and frequent network drops

Like many, I just purchased a shiny new HP Touchpad 32GB.  Updated the firmware to the latest version, enjoy it's web browsing capabilities and some of the apps.
However, like many, web browsing often coughed or sputtered and would freeze often during network operations.  Web sites like Google or Bing would often hang and become useless.  A Google search of "Unable to resolve host" showed that I wasnt' alone.
The 'solution', or so it seemed, was to reset the network by toggling airplane mode.  But doing this every 5-10 minutes, or more often, was quite frustrating.  Also, other applications, such as Spaz HD for Twitter were really lethargic.
This was all a problem until I changed the MTU on my wireless router from the standard 1500 to 1300.  Rebooted the modem, all is now well.  "And there was much rejoicing...."
After this change, haven't had the need to toggle the Airplane mode even once.  Spaz HD runs much quicker, Google & Bing no longer lock up, complex pages such as the DailyCaller.com or Redstate.com no longer time out and work properly.
I would be curious to see if others who are having the same problem, can make a similar change, and if helps them solve this issue.
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

For me, it turned out to be somewhat different - my home wireless was working fine with several different devices/OSs, but it seems that WebOS stopped falling back to any DNS servers beyond the first one.  Whereas other devices (android phones, linux laptops, etc) still resolved DNS fine using the secondary/tertiary DNS entries, WebOS starting giving me the "unable to resolve host" error.  So I changed the (primary) static DNS entry on my wireless router to one of the Google public DNS servers (8.8.8.8) and now WebOS is happy again.  The only thing that changed for me (on the tablet) was enabling usbnet just to check it out, and even after I disabled usbnet, I still had the name resolution failures.  Go figure...

  • Unable to resolve host - help please!

Can't connect to Internet using chrome or safari. In chrome just says unable to connect to internet and unable to resolve host.  Wifi and network connections are fine and working for other devices - just the iMac which is the problem.  any suggestions please?

    OS/Networking is mis-configured.
Oracle is the victim; not the culprit.

  • Host and VMs network configuration

    Hi,
We have additional Network cards on the Host hyper-v server. Does it make sense to configure Host and VM network
    in this way?
Host network configuration for Hyper-v virtual network switch:
    1NIC  ---
    2NIC  --- host_team_1
    3NIC ---
    4NIC --- host_team_2
    VM network configuration:
    host_team_1 ---
    host_team_2 --- VM_team_1
Would we benefit from this configuration?
    Thanks

It has to be in this way:
    1NIC  ---
    2NIC  --- host_team_1
    3NIC ---
    4NIC --- host_team_2
    VM network configuration:
    host_team_1 ---
    host_team_2 --- VM_team_1
I understand your point. Just idea is if we have 4 physical NICs on host server for VMs, to configure 2 teams on host server and then one team on virtual machine.

  • After Effects CS4 and NFS Network Drop-Outs

    Hi all,
We're experiencing a high number of NFS drop-outs ever since we've upgraded our department to AE CS4. I'm not saying CS4 is the culprit, I'm just saying this is when we started noticing the issue.
13 Apple MacPro 8-core systems. 12 Leopard, 1 Snow Leopard.
Projects are located on an Apple XServe 2.26 Quad-Core Xeon with 12GB RAM running 10.5.8 Server
Projects are shared up via NFS protocol via gigabit network.
Basically throughout the day, a random number of peole will lose connection to the NFS share, to which it returns on its own in a few moments. Though it's not everyone each time, all users encounter the issue at least once-a-day, usually more. (We have to different servers with NFS shares, one does not drop, the other does) The server that drops the share is the newer XServe Leopard and is the primary server where all the footage and projects are located. The 2nd server is just secondary library media and stock footage...
Essentially, I'm curious if anyone else is having NFS issues since the update to CS4. I'm just trying to weed out all elements. It's hard to say if it's the server itself, as the logs only note a drop once-in-a-while... We also use Rush Rendering for our Maya renders, which we have just upgraded to the latest version and we get drops even when no one is using Rush or Maya...
Very strange but extremely frustrating issue. It's not fun when someone is working on a project and loses it because the share drops out.
Any input greatly appreciated. Let me know if you need more info.
    Thanks!

Session timeouts.... I really do think it's the server. AE doesn't care for specific network stuff, it's all just volumes/ drives to the program. To avoid these issues, you would have to shorten the refresh cycles on your server availability broadcasts or the "keep alive" cycles on the connection/ session settings themselves. I'd know how to do it on Win Server, but I have no clue with regards to XServe configuration. Still, certainly some simple console commands and a restart of the server software should be able to take care of the matter.

  • Unable to resolve host [2006] - no EVDO

This may seem like a technical/software problem, but it only happens when the hardware is powered off and on again.
I have recently gotten a Pixi (Sprint); learned how to use it (my first smart phone) and decided to turn it off at night to conserve the battery. The next morning I had phone and text, but no internet application. Called Sprint Advanced Technical Support and reset the phone, removed the battery, prayed to Allah, and a few other occult things. Something worked and I had EVDO again. The same thing happened after the battery went dead. I charged with the phone while off and restarted the phone. Same problem- no EVDO. Several more hours on the phone with Sprint Advanced Technical Support got the phone to work again.
This happened 4 times and I was tired of calling tech support. They are pretty good at resolving issues, but due to the fact that they did not physically have the phone, I believe this was to their disadvantage.
I poked around a few places and discovered this problem can be resolved by doing a 'Full Erase' and log back into the Palm server to restore my settings, (but not my pictures and 200 songs). However, if the power is lost (phone turned off, restart, or the battery goes dead) I have to do the 'Full Erase' again. Anybody ever heard of this happening before. I'm planning on exchanging the device at a Sprint store, unless it can be fixed.

    Hello and welcome to the forums;
If after a full erase the problem is resolved until the next time the battery dies or the phone is turned off, the next thing I would suggest before replacing your device would be to update your network settings. Open the phone app, then tap on the top left-hand corner, and tap on Preferences. Scroll down to Network Settings, and tap Update Network Settings. After that completes, also tap Update PRL.
If after updating these settings you still have problems, I would recommend using the webOS Doctor.
You can find the Doctor at www.palm.com/ROM as well as instructions for placing your phone into Recovery Mode at the link after downloading the Doctor that says 'Having problems with webOS Doctor?'
If after running the Doctor you still see this behavior, I would recommend a replacement.
    Hope this helps,

  • My wifi is connected but im stuck in an endless loop of resolving hosts.

All of a sudden the wifi on my MBP has stopped working. I have full signal strength but all browsers are unable to resolve hosts and eventually just time out. I tried clearing out my dns and using OpenDNS but both didnt seem to work. Network diagnostics also failed to resolve the issue. Having horrible service with 4GLTE I have had 3G for several weeks (I am not the only person I know having this problem), I have reset my network settings and it did not resolve the issue.  I am also unable to send SMS and text messages without them either failing or not sending at all.  Is there an outage in the Cleveland, Ohio area (zip codes 44129, 44134, 44137) or anything else I can do to resolve this issue?

Not that I'm a Verizon employee, but I have experience in the field. An LTE tower will only extend up to, on a perfect day, with no elevation, 6-7 miles. On a typical day, you will be lucky at four (4) miles. The three ZIP codes you've given are all within about a 12 mile radius. That would mean that 2-3 towers are currently down at the same time, and Verizon would know about it within the hour. Being it's Cleveland, I'm sure they would receive numerous calls regarding an outage of that size.
My point is that if you're having issues in all three ZIP codes, chances are it's a phone issue. If you're handset is simply not receiving LTE, but still receiving 3G, that would signify a SIM card issue. You need to get your SIM card replaced.

Wont/Unable as in you were not able to verify information?
Basicly the only way Account Security is not able to reset your security questions is because
1 - You do not remember your password
2 - You were unable to verify any information which is required
If you do not remember your password - until your password is either remembered or reset - will not be able to reset questions via Support
If you know your password - then if you are unable to verify any information regarding your account your questions will not be reset.
I apologize - If the information above is not the case try calling back in.

Thats the error message when trying to purchase
I see nothing there that is referring you to the Terms of Sale. You're being told to contact iTunes Support. These are user-to-user support forums, if you thought you were contacting Apple by posting here. Go here:

  • Constant wi-fi interruption, "resolving host"

Especially since the upgrade to Mavericks, an ongoing wi-fi connection is lost and the "resolving host" message appears when I attempt to refresh the page. I am still connected to my wi-fi but unable to upload/download any pages. It appears that this happens more often when many of the neighbors are connected to their wi-fi connections. It's almost like the number of local hot spots confuses my iMac.
Any insights or fixes would be appreciated as this is driving me mad.
    Thanks.

    Hey BrianC9,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with Wi-Fi connectivity on your iMac. The following resource may provide a solution:
Wi-Fi: How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4628
It sounds like the connection to the Wi-Fi network is fine, but the actual internet connection drops. You might want to try power-cycling your modem (if applicable), along with your Wi-Fi router.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • VersaMail - "Unable to resolve name" error for mail server

I've had an intermittent but frequent problem with VersaMail when I try to connect to get my email.  I frequently get the following message:
"Unable to resolve name pop.mindspring.com. Check your DNS settings or enter the IP address for your mail server."
I also get it occasionally for my Yahoo.com mail addresses as well, so it's not unique to Mindspring.com.  Sometimes it happens a lot, but sometimes I get right in with no problems, so the settings I have appear to work - when they want to.  Needless to say, it's frustrating and annoying, so if anyone has a way to resolve this, I'd appreciate knowing it.
    Thanks.

Problem solved!  I had Googled for answers and had found an explanation of DNS servers on another forum where someone was having a similar problem.  It seems that DNS servers simply take the domain name we use and search for the IP address for that domain name, then hook us up to that IP address.  The error message I was getting was that I needed to check my DNS settings or enter the IP address, so it seemed only logical to me that if I could bypass those goofy DNS servers with their "now I'll do it, now I won't" bad attitude, perhaps I could connect directly with the mail servers.  Your tip on how to find the IP address of the mail servers by pinging them was the missing piece I needed.  I deleted the POP and SMTP server names for each account I'd set up in VersaMail, replacing them with the appropriate IP addresses, and I can now connect reliably with any of the servers, first time, every time - and lightning fast.
    Thanks for your help!
