Solutions to this virus-like Mail activity?
Hey there,
So my wife only has our old Time Warner Roadrunner account that she only accesses through Mail and she magically blasted out an email to a variety of family, friends and co-workers about "lending money" and some link to a website in Toronto.
She was purusing websites last night investigating vacation cabins but that's the only odd-ball activity I can think of. She doesn't use Yahoo! Mail or anything like that and ALL of the emails were sent to aquiantances. And the mail does NOT show in the Sent box.
I researched what I could and couldn't find anything like this. Thanks in advance for any help.

Definitely look into etresoft's suggestions, but another very good possibility is that your account has not been hacked, or came from you at all.
I mention this because of your comment that the emails just happened to go to people you know. What that says to me iis that someone know who uses Windows and has many of the same email contents was hit with an email virus. Very typical of such viruses, they send out the email to everyone in that person's contact list, randomly choosing one as the "sender". This is known as spoofing.
I've had this happen with some of my own relative's computers. Which is really obvious when get such emails with your own address as the sender.

Try a Safe Boot to clear the dyld_shared_cache (dynamic loader cache)

Suddenly after upgrading I can't get rid of a Yahoo home page. Really annoying
Try RIGHT clicking on different areas of the toolbars on Firefox, mainly try right clicking on/around the url bar & forward/back navigation buttons. When you get the correct spot if will give you a menu with the toolbars available (whether or not they're active) and a couple other options. Just uncheck the Yahoo one & you should be all set.
As you say though it may be some other bar disguised as a yahoo bar. Any chance you can get a screen shot of it & post it here? -

I have an article here that has a list of settings to get from your Email provider so you can make sure that the settings are correct. It has troubleshooting steps to try as well. Also I would recommend restarting the router, and/or testing a differnet network.

If you are unable to send or receive email, try the following steps:
Restart the iOS device.
Tap Safari and attempt to load a webpage to ensure that the device has Internet access. If you're unable to load a webpage, try the Wi-Fi assistant.
Try an alternative Internet connection.
If your email is provided by your Internet provider, try connecting from the home network.
If your iOS device has an active cellular data plan, try to disable Wi-Fi: Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn off Wi-Fi.
If not, try a different Wi-Fi network.
Log in to your email provider's website to ensure that the account is active and the password is correct.
Delete the account from Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and then add the email account again on the iOS device.
If you're still unable to send or receive email, contact your email provider and verify the account settings are correct. You will need to gather this information (PDF).

Mail is still loosing attachments at random intervals. Sometimes the attachments arrive and sometimes they do not. Has anyone worked out a solution to this yet?
As with all posts thus far, I have a sporadic loss of attachments. I can tell when this occurs, as the file size clearly shows an attachment should be present, but the "attachments" column fails to recognize an attached file. Unlike some of the suggested fixes, I cannot use "quick look attachments" or "save attachments" to get around the problem. Rather, I must log into my Outlook Web Access for Enterprise Messaging to see and download attachments. This greatly diminishes the advantages of using a program like Mail.
Not only does loss of attachments occur sporadically, with no consistency as to sender, attachment type, file size, etc..., it also can change on a given message with attachments suddenly appearing and, more troublesome, others suddenly disappearing even if they were previously opened!
Because of mailbox size restrictions through my employer, I download most messages to my hard drive. However, if I download a message that has a 'missing' attachment, it becomes lost forever. I can see, again by file size, that an attachment should be there, but can obviously no longer access the attachment using the web interface.
This problem doesn't seem to be as bad on my iPhone 3G. In fact, I can sometimes force an attachment to 'appear' on my computer by opening the attachment through Mail on my iPhone. Again, not a very appealing fix to an annoying bug. It would be great if a fix for this bug were to come soon... -

I am having a problem with my Mac OS X 10.7.5 mac book air , there are constant pop pups and small windows with ads blinking constantly opening up on my safari in front of everything?? it is constantly interupting me and makes me mistakingly click on it then another new windows open behind the one im using..

My 500 GB can't verify nor repair. I have photoshop work that I need to recover. I would like to know what option would be the best solution for this problem?
You appear to have two issues: 1) a hard drive that is not working properly and 2) files you wish to recover.
Re 1) you need to answer Kappy's questions.
Re 2) does the drive load and can you see your photo files? If so can you copy them to another drive?
Do you not have a backup of the photo files? -
I have an older computer and can no longer update. After the latest Apple update I can no longer access my e-mail on my mac. I can view it on my iphone and on icloud. Is there a solution to this problem?
Apple changed MobileMe to iCloud and then restricted iCloud to 10.7 users only unfortunately
If your machine is a 64 bit processor Intel Mac you can upgrade to 10.7 for $29, however a lot of your 10.5/10.6/Rosetta based software could cease to function, especially third party hardware drivers for printers, fax machines, all-in-ones, scanners etc.

Also depending how old the machine is, if it can accept 4GB of RAM (preferred), older video card, may not run 10.7 very well or stable.
My advice is to keep at 10.6.8, get a web based email service that's plaform/hardware neutral, forward your iPhone emails there. Gmail/Yahoo Mail for instance.
When your ready for new hardware and all new software, then buy a new machine.
If your going to go to 10.7 on your present hardware, I advise you clone 10.6.8 to a external drive first, that way you can c boot off the 10.6 disk erase the drive completely (necessary to remove hidden Lion Recovery Partition) and option boot off the 10.6.8 clone and reverse clone.

Anyone any advice on how to stop my mail "activity" from continuously caching? is this a problem? I have had inbox issues recently that are not resolved yet but I am not sure if they are related.
Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results. -

If you established a rescue email address, there will be a link on the "Passwords & Security" page of id.apple.com. Clicking the link will send the reset to your rescue email address (NOTE: This is not the same address as your Apple ID email)
If there is no link on the page, then you didn't establish a rescue email address. Contact AppleCare at 800.694.7466, and ask for account security. You will need to answer some questions to verify your identity, AND you will need access to a computer to generate a temporary support pin.

Seriously, Stop the DUPLICATE Madness! Is there a fix for my duplicate songs on my iPad? Like really, I don't have time to drag and delete my songs. Does Apple really have a simple solution for this bug? It's been 5-months, I currently do not have quick access to a sync, I thought iMatch for Christmas would solve the problem but it appears that doesn't solve anything either....help please! If I listen to my kid's lula-bye song in duplicate for another night I'm going to seriously loose it on Little Boy Peep. Like really Apple do I need to call IN and pay for this problem?
The possible problem appears to me that songs that were previously loaded onto the iPad device from Mac were duplicated when I started to sync with iCloud. An album will contain one song from the iPad that was originally loaded on sync with Mac and another that will appear either with a little iCloud icon next to the song greyed out or a DUPLICATE song.
I had hoped iMatch would solve the issue magically, but that does not appear to be the case.
