[Solved!] A tool to set keyboard shortcuts?

Hello,
I'm using Compiz from the repo's as my WM, but it has only 11 keyboard shortcuts. I'm on the point now where I'm going to need more than that, so I wonder if there is some WM-independent tool I can use? I think I have seen the name of it here and there, but it sunk so far down my mind that I can not remember it.

Setting Keyboard Shortcuts for Services won't work

I've tried to set Keyboard Shortcuts for Services like "New Terminal Tab from Folder" but it won't work. I even tried it on my friend's machine to no avail.
Here's where I'm setting it up. And yes, I've turned on the checkbox & set the shortcut I want. I've even tried a few different keyboard shortcuts that are complicated to ensure that it's not competing with something else.
To note, I'm using TotalFinder but my friend, whose machine I tested this on, doesn't.
We are both running 10.8.2 on the latest MacBook Pro with Retina Display, 15".

I have a similar scenario......except my services that I created run one time, and then won't run again.
For example, I created a service to open a new blank email message for me to type in. I assigned Cntl-Opt-Comm-M to this service. I hit the key sequence and it works the first time.....the mail window pops open.
If I then close the mail window that it spawned and do it again, no mail window opens.
I also did this to create a blank Calendar event and also another one for Reminders.
They all run one time and then not again.
Any ideas?

I can't find anything on creating your own shortcuts. Actually, you may want to go to the online help and download the manual in PDF form.

Self-Set Keyboard Shortcuts Not Working

I've just transferred all my stuff from my old G5 iMac (10.4.11) to my (2nd hand) intel imac (10.5.7).
Most things appear to be ok, but I had 2 keyboard shortcuts that I set up myself in system prefs. 1 for Safari, F5 to Reload Page, and 1 for Mail, F7 to Get All New Mail. Neither of these appear in system prefs on the new imac. Even so, F5 does reload the page in Safari! Odd.
So, I set up the F7 for Mail and it doesn't appear to work. I quit Mail and it worked the first time I tried it (unless Mail was automatically checking for mail), but since then it doesn't work. I tried it on another key too, F6, but that doesn't work either.
Can anyone help?

F5 is the default shortcut to reload in any browser. there is no need to set it.

try fn+F6 or fn+F7. depending on how your keyboard system preferences are set up this might be necessary. also, try logging out/in. if none of this helps you may have to reset your mail preference file which is where Mail shortcuts are stored. delete the file /users/username/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist. start Mail and recreate all your email accounts. once recreated they should recognize their existing mailboxes. then try creating the shortcut again.

How to set keyboard shortcut for popup enter as spacebar?

I want to create a shortcut where I can use a spacebar for all the popup's action.
It is very cumbersome, to scroll to the popup and then select an action for the popup.
It would be very easy, If I can use tab to scroll amongst the option of popup and press spacebar to select an action.

See System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcut > (at the bottom) Full Keyboard Access > select "All controls."
This will probably help, but your mileage may vary. See:

How do I set keyboard shortcut for 'Get Mail'?

Went to system preferences - keyboard - shortcuts - App shortcuts and added Mail.app
Get Mail cmd G
However, it doesn't work. It just makes a nasty noise when I'm in mail and use the shortcut.

The command is Get New Mail. It already has a keyboard shortcut, Shift-Command-N. Command-G is already used for Find Next (i.e., find the next occurrence of a find text).

How to set Keyboard shortcuts for Flash Pro CS6?

I have started to use Flash Pro CS6, but my keyboard shortcuts such as F6 to insert a new Keyframe didn't work..I soon found that you could create your own Keyboard Shortcut list within the Flash application, and I am trying to enter F6 for a new Keyframe, but it only lets me enter one letter/number at a time and deletes the other one. I have made sure that F6 isn't in use. It now isn't, any help would be appreciated.

if no shortcut works, try resetting your flash pro preferences:
Hold down Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Win) or Shift+Command+Option (Mac) when starting flash pro.

Keyboard shortcut for magnifier tool doesn't always work

Hi!
I have some problems with the opening the magnifier tool via assigned keyboard shortcuts. I assigned opt+z as shortcut for the magnifier tool, and it sometimes work but often don't, and I have no idea why. It always works when opening the tool from the menu. I also tried to assign it to opt+x (which I have used for the "highlight text" in the same program, which always worked), but with the same results.
I have also found that if I press the shortcut for close magnifier (even if I have closed it already) and then press the shortcut for opening it will open. In a similar fashion, the shortcut for closing the magnifier (when it's open) won't work until I have pressed the "open magnifier"-shortcut first (which shouldn't do any difference.) This could either be a strange bug, or something is happening that I'm not aware of.

I wonder what application you're using when this happens? Or does it happen in any application?
It's possible for an application to have a setting that matches the input language to the font. So I can guess that maybe what is happening is that your cursor is in Korean somehow when you want to switch so that the app wants you to input Korean even though you've switched.
I suppose what I'm suggesting is that if it is happening in one application, there might be an application-related reason.

After iOS 8 upgrade keyboard shortcuts gone, just reboot

FYI,
apparently this also happened with the ios7 upgrade. Per the related ios7 thread, after a manual reboot of the phone, the shortcuts reappeared. The reboot solved my problem as my keyboard shortcut settings reappeared after reboot.

I lost all my keyboard shortcuts on my iPhone 5s after upgrading to iOS 8. They still showed up on my iPad Air (iOS 8) and iMac (10.9.5). There were, however, massive sync problems, sometimes they would only flow from one device to all the others, sometimes from one device to only one of the other two, sometimes not at all.
I deleted all my shortcuts and started from scratch, deleting “~/Library/Application Support/Ubiquity”, ~/Library/Dictionaries” and “~/Library/Mobile Documents/com~apple~TextInput” from the iMac and KeyboardDomain from my iOS devices.
Rebooted everything a dozen times.
Toggled Documents & Data Sync off and on a dozen times too in all kinds of combination with rebooting and deleting the aforementioned files.
Everything always starts working and syncing fine for a very short while, but sooner or later one of my devices stops receiving new shortcuts as I re-add them.
I reboot that device and it catches up. I enter new shortcuts, and that device doesn’t get any new shortcuts. This time, a reboot doesn’t fix anything.
After using my devices for a while, I notice shortcuts are entirely gone from both the iPhone and iPad, but not from the iMac.
I even upgraded my iPhone 5s to a 6, and right off the bat it had issues with keyboard shortcut sync. I also setup my iPad as new, and same thing: right off the bat, sync issues with keyboard shortcuts.

Unable to change keyboard shortcuts

It drives me insane that Adobe doesn't use the standard Mac keyboard shortcuts in their applications for Mac. I finally got annoyed enough that I went to fix them in Dreamweaver. I found the place to set shortcuts, but when I try to replace the End key (for end of line) with Cmd+Right nothing happens. If I hit a letter, for example, that key appears, but it doesn't seem to recognize Cmd+Right arrow as a valid sequence. Before trying to add that I removed the shortcut for Cmd+Right that was associated with 'Word Right'.

Move word left - CTRL+LEFT

Some applications allow keyboard shortcuts to be customized, usually in preferences, but I'm wondering if there's a way to customize keyboard shortcuts in apps that don't have this feature built in.

Assign your own keyboard shortcuts to menu commands in any OS X app, including Finder. This might be useful if a global shortcut, which works the same with most apps, conflicts with a specific app shortcut. In this case, you could assign a different key combination.
You can only create keyboard shortcuts for existing menu commands. You cannot create keyboard shortcuts for general purpose tasks such as opening an app.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Keyboard.
Open Keyboard preferences for me
Click Shortcuts, select App Shortcuts, then click Add (+).
Click the Application pop-up menu, then choose an app. If you want to set the same key combination for a menu command that appears in many apps, choose All Applications.
If the app you want to select doesn’t appear in the list, choose Other, then locate it using the Open dialog. Some apps may not allow you to set keyboard shortcuts.
Type the menu command for which you want to set a keyboard shortcut in the Menu Title field.

Mac Mail custom keyboard shortcuts won't work

I'm using Mac Mail, trying to set keyboard shortcuts to set flags
- I goto preferences/keyboard/application shortcuts
- click on "+" to add shortcut
- specify Mail shortcut in dropdown menu
- add 6 different shotrcuts OPT/CMD-_ (where _ is: L S V F R P)
- when I added the shortcut, i was very careful to make sure the MENU TITLE of the shortcut in OS-X preferences paine is the same as the
Then, in Mail app, reading a message, I press the shortcut (ex: OPT/CMD-L), and the flag is not set

I'm having this exact same problem with Mail.app on Mavericks, and my workaround is exactly the same. Doesn't it sort of defeat the whole purpose of keyboard shortcuts if I have to grab my mouse to expose the relevant menu?! Very frustrating. Does anyone know how to either 1) find a better workaround on our end or 2) convince Apple to fix the problem?
#2 seems unlikely since custom keyboard shortcuts is probably a pretty rarely used feature...

Keyboard shortcuts return to default

I am trying to set my shortcuts so when I hit F11, I get the dashboard, f12 for all windows. But when I restart my machine, it resets those commands to the default setting. Why is it resetting like this only on these commands? Other shortcuts I've set up for applications are not reset.

You can set keyboard shortcuts for dashboard in preferences > dashboard & expose
Shortcuts can also be set in Preferences > mouse & keyboard > keyboard shortcuts

DW 2014.1 keyboard shortcuts for "Code and Design" gone

Option has disappeared for setting keyboard shortcuts specifically for "Code and Design" (or plain Design either, for that matter)? Split Code option just gives you two code windows and all the other options in Shortcuts are for Live View, not Design view.

Alt-F11 does not help me in this situation because you still cannot toggle between showing Code and Design versus all Code, or all Design. Live options have replaced Design options, but even then, you cannot make a shortcut for Code and Live (though it's available in the View menu). This screen shot shows what has disappeared.
Again: Ctl + ` does not toggle the VIEW, it toggles the active PANE.

Keyboard shortcuts with ALT+(letter)

In LabVIEW CVI it's easy to set keyboard shortcuts so that a user can jump to a control using ALT plus the letter that has been set for that control. Now that I'm working in LabVIEW, I'm having trouble figuring out how to do the same thing.
For example, a numeric control on the page is called "Start Value". I want to designate "ALT+t" as a shortcut for the control. Ideally, the first "t" would be underlined and pressing "ALT+t" would cause the focus to switch to this control.
Any insights on how to do this in LabVIEW?

There are ways to do this, but they are not as straight forward.
For example create a runtime menu and assign items in your runtime menu the keyboard shortcut. Then using the "Event Structure" look for the runtime menu selection to occur and assign that same event for your button press. Then the code is executed for either a button press or a keyboard selection.
