[Solved] About the recommended ESP size
Why is it recommended to keep the EFI System Partition at least 512 MiB? I'm using /boot as ESP with the total size of 200 MiB, less than 30 MiB used, and everything is working fine. Is the requirement as it is in case I'm also using Windows and other operating systems? I see from the documentation that the recommended size is indeed dictated by Microsoft. In other words, if I'm always using a Linux OS and never doing multi-booting then is it safe to use a small ESP or am I missing something? It is my understanding that it normally only contains the Linux kernel and the initramfs image and its fallback, which never take much space.

I see that my hard drive sector size is 512 bytes, meaning the minimum size for FAT32 is 32 MiB. For native 4K drives without support for 512B emulation the minimum size would be ~260 MiB - something I should consider in the future.

I have Prem.El 12 and have used PE4 for years. I have a new PC that runs Win7Pro. The still images on the computer monitor are within the "safe margins". The still images after the movie has been burned to a disk are MUCH smaller on the TV screen. Is this an issue of 16:9 vs 4:3 ratios? My TV is 4:3. Can I tell PE12 to make the movie a 4:3?

Although I have seen your post of today in my Inbox Email Notifications, that post has not yet appears in this thread. It will probably will sooner or later. But, to keep things moving along....this is a copy of what I am seeing as your message of today in my Indox Email Notifications
Thank you for your patience in the time it is taking me to get back to you.
I am still trying to buy some DVD-RW discs and will hopefully do that in a
bit. Meanwhile, I have more info for you and some simple (I hope)
questions. If you want to insert your answers, that would be fine.
My camera (for stills and video) is set to the 4:3 ratio. It is capable of
being set to a 16:9 ratio if I wanted to do that. I looked in its TOOLS
menu and saw this info.
My TV is definitely a 4:3 TV. (I measured it with my tape measure and
divided W/L to get 1.33) The TV can show a 16:9 movie and just adds the
black bars on the top and bottom. Question: What will my old 4:3 movies
look like on a 16:9 TV whenever we buy one of those?
It seems to me that I want to set PE12 to the NTSC DV Standard you
mentioned.
I do NOT know how to “size your photos so that each has a 4:3 aspect”,
unless you mean doing that in Photoshop Elements, which I know how to do
(*see below)
I had NOT considered that I would need to watch the preset for the
‘Publish+Share’ step; so that’s good to know (I copied and pasted your info
for later use).
BTW, years ago when I had difficulties with my XP computer working on PE4
(had only 2 GB RAM), an Adobe tech told me to resize my photos * to have a
720 pixel width (the height would be automatically adjusted) to lower the
file size to something my computer could handle without crashing. (That
was back in the good ol’ days when Adobe support would actually talk with
their customers and try to help them in the first month)
My new computer has 16GB RAM. Do you think I still need to reduce file
size? One does lose some sharpness in the resizing process…..however,
these videos I’m making are travelogues and are for a fun way to view pics
and videos of a trip…nothing Earth shattering….and just a hobby to keep me
off the streets.
I truly appreciate the time you take to help me (and others). I was even
tempted to try to install my old PE4 on my new computer just to be able to
enjoy my hobby again.
My reply to the above....
1. If you camera is giving you 4:3 photos and your Premiere Elements 12/12.1 is running on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit, then leave
the photos as is unless you have a lot of photos and each has pixel dimensions sizes way over 1920 x 1080 pixels that are giving your computer resource issues. If you have to down size them because of computer resources, then copy the photos to a computer desktop folder and also create an empty folder on the computer desktop.
a. Photoshop Elements Editor, File Menu/Process Multiple Files.
Process Files form Folder
Source - browse to and select the computer desktop folder with photos to be resized
Destination - browse to and select the empty computer desktop folder
Image Size
Check Mark Next To Resize Images
(no check mark next to Constrain Proportions)
Type in Width = 1000 (set units for pixels)
Type in Height = 750 (set unites for pixels)
File Size
Check Mark Next to Convert Files To
Set for JPEG High Quality
The above should work fine for a NTSC DV Standard project with a burn to DVD disc with preset NTSC_Dolby DVD (4:3 video).
2. With regard to the TV Set and 16:9 video....when you have the DVD-player attached to the TV, do you have the opportunity to bring up a display of menus with
controls for Picture and Aspect Ratio? From what you have written so far, it looks like the answer is no. I am not sure how your TV DVD
player will handle 16:9.
Best do a mini test run
1. Project preset set manually to NTSC DV Widescreen (please refer to post 1 link)
A few photos sized for 1600 x 1200
In the Premiere Elements project, use the Safety Margins inner rectangle for text placement
Publish+Share/Disc/DVD disc with preset = NTSC_Widescreen_Dolby DVD.
See what that looks like on your TV DVD player.
If you discovered that your current TV DVD player can be set for a 16:9 display, then I have a preferred workflow for
NTSC DV Widescreen which typically gives best possible results. Hints of things to come.
Please review and consider. Thanks for the follow ups.

[SOLVED] About the registration page...
okay to make this shorter ive registered here using the answer of this guy

im so interested in arch linux that's why searched for the answer and i found one. lol.
a to that captcha.
im running backbox linux right now and my system generated this:
7494e13078df6f09d5aac285cedc26727b40af6db8e43f8a3b23710e2a1ef268
Questions:
do we really need to run Arch Linux in order to get the right answer?
Answer:
i get it now it shows the week number and passes it into sha256sum.
does that captcha really prevent bot from registering?, if the answer to that captcha spreads all over the net, then that would render the captcha useless.
Suggestion:
Why don't Arch use a dynamic captcha. what i mean is that everytime the user proceeds with the wrong answer the captcha change into another problem just like those. and then Arch has a database for that captcha alone a database that stores "Problem and Answers" to those captcha showed in the registration page.
sorry for the bad english as english is not my native language. and sorry if i didn't introduce myself.

--- Fixed the problem ---
well here's what i did, at first i run the command but i got the wrong answer because my system clock was turned off at that time then it shows nothing then i tried to echo the command and there i got the wrong answer. on the second time i run the command with the system clock turned on i still echoed it that's why i still got the wrong answer it shows this weird output when echoed "date -u +%WLinux". what i did right now is that i remove the echo and there i get the correct answer for the captcha.. hope this thread will help newbies like me in the future.

What is the maximum file size for CSV that Excel can open ? (Excel 2013 64bit)
Hello,
Before anyone jumps in, I am not talking about the maximum worksheet size of 1048576 rows by 16384 columns.
I have client whom has a 1.5 Gb CSV file, 1.9, 2.6, 5, 17 and 89 Gb file (Huge).
If I open the 1.5 Gb, the file opens (After waiting 5 minutes) and then a warning pops up that only the first 1048576 rows have loaded. That is fair enough.
If I try and open any of the others, Excel comes up to a blank worksheet. No errors. It just seems to ignore the file I tried to open. This happens from within Excel (File - open) or from double clicking the file in explorer.
Excel goes to this blank page almost imeadiatly. It does not even try to open the file.
If I try with Ms Access, I get a size warning and it refuses to load the file. (At least I get a warning)
I would have expected Excel to load at least the first 1048576 rows (If that is what there are in the file), and give an error.
The computer is more than capable (Xeon processors, 16 Gb ram, SSD hard disks top of the line HP Z820 power workstation).
With the 1.5 Gb file loaded to 1048576 rows, it uses 15% ram/pagefile. CPU's hit about 5%.
I have confirmed it is Win 7 64bit, Excel 64bit. I am fairly confident we are over the file size but without an error message, I don't know what to tell my client whom is looking to me for answers.
I have already discussed that the 89gb file in Excel is unreasonable and they are looking at a stat's package but I need an answer on these smaller files.

The 1,048,576 rows & 16,384 columns is the
workbook size limitation in Excel 2013. Thus, I recommend we try the Mr. Bernie's suggestions to import the large CSV file.
1. Use VBA to read the file line by line and split/examine the import file in sections. If you have further question about the VBA, please post your question to the MSDN forum for Excel

Recommended Block Size For RAID 0
I am setting up a RAID configuration (Striping, no Parity, Mac G5, OS-X) and was curious what the recommended Block Size should be. Content is primarily (but not limited to) Images created with Adobe Photoshop CS2 and range in size from 1.5MB to >20MB. The default for OS-X is 32K chunks of data.
Drives are External FW-400.
Many thanks, and Happy Holidays to all!If it is just scratch, run some benchmarks with it set to 128k and 256k and see how it feels with each. The default is too small, though some find it acceptable for small images. For larger files you want larger - and for PS scratch you definitely want 128 or 256k.

Recommended pixel size image on Apple Cinema
Hi,
I want to buy some photography photos online. Companies like Dreamstime sell credit packages to buy their photos, and it costs more credits for larger image size photos. I am not buying photos to print them - just to view them.
I got a reply from Dreamtime which said
"I would recommend checking the owners information that comes with your Apple
Cinema. They should provide a recommended pixel size of the image (not
necessarily related to the monitor resolution) for your particular usage.
Higher resolution images are typically for printed applications, so check
Apple's owner manual info for recommended sizes if you are only on-screen
viewing and not printing."
So my question is what is the recommended pixel size for displaying images on the Apple Cinema since it is not related to actual monitor resolution.
I don't have an owner's manual for my cinema.
Thank youHello BSteely,
Much thanks again for the dialogue and informing me that I'd be best off with 1680x1050 res. I've also been doing some web reading on this resolution issue.
I understand that when a photo is exported to iPhoto that it scales it to the monitor's dimensions - as I understand it by enhancing or decreasing pixel size - so that it fits on the screen.
Is it logical to assume then that a picture or photo with 2560 x 1600 res. would be ideal for the Apple 30" Cinema Monitor because that is its maximum resolution - and pic and monitor would have a perfect fit ? Or does it just not make that much of a difference in viewing clarity because iPhoto calibrates the resolution to fit the monitor ?
And finally does the quality/clarity of the picture suffer more when a pixel size is increased or decreased. The way I am picturing it - picture clarity would suffer more if a pixel is increased ( stretched to fit the screen ) than if a pixel is compacted from an image larger than the maximum resolution of the monitor.
If you wouldn't mind clarifying that for me that should put the end of my inconveniencing you. You've been really helpful. -

So confused about the size.... how exactly should i set them?
i've written codes like:
JFrame fr = new JFrame ("FR");
JTabbedPane tp = new JTabbedPane();
JPanel pa = new JPanel();
JTextArea ta = new JTextArea;
fr.add(tp.add(pa.add(ta)));
Questions:
1. How do I set the SIZE (dimension) of the GUI (the whole thing)
2. How do I set the size of the TextArea
I was thinking:
setSize = set the default size of a panel/compent
setMaximumSize = set the maxium area of that panel/compent (that'll allow you to drag to )
setMinimumSzie = set the smallest window/pan/comp that you can drag to
i tried fr.setSize or whatever... nothing just work.....!!
Sorry... im really a beginner and i don't know where can I have a good read about all these Java.awt objects... JPanel/Frame/tabbedPanel/TextArea/button/watever.... sooo many and so easy to be confused....
sorry i about the poor english... hope someone can help me out....
thanks! Some helpful resources in the tutorial:
Trail: Creating a GUI with JFC/Swing
1 - Lesson: Using Swing Components
a) - A Visual Index to the Swing Components
b) - Using Top-Level Containers
2 - Lesson: Laying Out Components Within a Container
For the JFrame or other top-level container we use the "setSize" method.
For JTextArea the api recommends we set the rows and columns to provide size information for the parent layout manager. For example - "new JTextArea(6, 18)"
Some layout managers, such as FlowLayout and GridBagLayout will use the preferredSize for sizing components so you can use the "setPreferredSize" method (in Swing and in j2se 1.5+ AWT). -
To whom do I complain about the OS 7 calendar on the iPad 2? I used to be able to read my appointments. The new small font is horrible. Text size doesn't seem to change it. Can I change it?
Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

Inform about the Size of the files stored in DMS as warning message
hi DMS Gurus,
We have a critical requirement of informing the users about the size of the file getting stored in SAP DMS, we need to inform the users the size of the file getting stored as this has a implication on flowing the documents in to remote Mobile device, and the concern is, any document above 2 MB would take much longer time or may not flow at all,
so we need this information available in DIR, so the user can have a choice to choose the file before sending it to Mobile device,
can i know if this file size is logged in SAP System anywhere?
Any suggestion is welcome
Thanks and regards,
KumarHi Kumar,
normally the file size could be found in table DMS_PHF_CD1. You should be able to get the correct entry by using the LOIO- or PHIO-ID which can be obtained by report DMS_KPRO_READ. Other useful tables are DMS_PH_CD1, DMS_PHIO2FILES and DMS_DOC2LOIO.
Best regards,
Christoph
