[SOLVED] accidentally deleted curl, anyway to reinstall?

I had some issues in curl and vmware player 5.0.1 in kernel 3.7.7-1, so I tried to remove curl (my bad, pacman -Rdd curl) and reinstall but reinstall fails
pacman: error while loading shared libraries: libcurl.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Appreciate any advice on how can I reinstall curl.

are you pointing to any particular options in pacman.conf? pacman works on other packages (those non dependent on curl) when I put libcurl.so.4 from vmware directory to /usr/lib... but any curl dependent package upgrade fails with the following error
pacman -S curl
pacman: /usr/lib/libcurl.so.4: no version information available (required by /usr/lib/libalpm.so.7)

    jurisprudence410,
if you’ve completely deleted everything on the internal disk, including your recovery partition, then you should be able to use OS X Internet Recovery to redownload your MacBook Pro’s original version of OS X from Apple’s servers. If you still have your recovery partition, then you can try holding down Option Command R while starting your MacBook Pro to have OS X Internet Recovery start.

  • [SOLVED] Accidentally deleted graphical.target. Any way to resto..

Hello all. So here's the story: I was trying to get SLiM to run via `systemd` and was following the instructions detailed here:
    # systemctl enable kdm.service
This should work out of the box. If not ....
    /etc/systemd/system/default.target -> /usr/lib/systemd/system/graphical.target
Simply delete the symlink and systemd will use its stock `default.target` (i.e.`graphical.target`).
    # rm /etc/systemd/system/default.target
By some strange form of dyslexia, instead of writing the code on the last step, I had written
    # rm /usr/lib/systemd/system/graphical.target
Of course, without this file, I'm now unable to boot succesfully. I'm also quite sure that it's impossible (or at least extremely impractical) to recover a file removed in this fashion. Is there a default `graphical.target` that I could download or see the lines of text, so that I can remake it?
If I recall correctly, it was just 8-10 lines of text like other `.target` files, where half of it was commented out with some
    [ 'something'] = something
written inbetween some of the comment lines. I appreciate your help!

Ah, I was under the assumption that `systemd` comes installed from the LiveCD/LiveUSB and not from `pacman`. I could definitely try reinstalling it with `pacman` right now and see what happens.

  • Accidentally deleted iTunes - can't reinstall it!

I'm new to Macs, and I thought i was deleting an Alias, but I actually deleted iTunes. I tried downloading it from this Apple, and it won't let me reinstall. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks.

    Thank you, macmenno!
I did not uninstall iTunes, however I was installing AirPort Express. When I installed it, it removed my iTunes! I thought maybe I need to restart again. When I did, it still wasn't there! So I ran the installer again, and it installed iTunes... version 4! Figured, that is ok, now let's run the updater... no go. So I downloaded the latest version from the website... unable to install, it skips/disable the selection to install iTunes.
This procedure your mentioned worked like a charm and I am installing the latest version at the moment (6.0.4). But maybe you (or someone else who is reading this) knows why AirPort express uninstalled iTunes?
It is not a bigge, except I now maxed out on my limit of Authorized computers, since the other installation did not deauthorize. =/ Maybe I did something wrong during the installation?

  • Help! Accidentally deleted QuickOffice, how to reinstall?

    Hi All,
So I updated my QuickOffice yesterday to get the patch for document editing. For some reason the app wouldn't start afterwards and so I deleted it from the home page thinking that I could just download it again from the HP App catalog. It isn't listed in the catalog and I can't use software manager or anything else to install it again. I searched on google and this forum to find a solution, but unfortunately, it seems that I might be the only one with this issue. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Is it possible to just reformat my touchpad back to its original content?
    Thanks,
    anulicious

Yes, it worked perfectly.  I suspect that Quickoffice and Adobe Reader must not have been deleted from the device, even though they were inaccessible to me.
Background:  The problem started when I followed the routine to update Quickoffice and Adobe Reader, by deleting them from the applications menu.  The instructions seemed to say that it was necessary to delete Quickoffice and Adobe Reader prior to updating them.  But after deleting them, I was unable to find a way to update them.  That's why I sought assistance from Quickoffice.  (I was reluctant to try such an extreme measure as using the doctor.)  I don't think the Quickoffice reset process re-downloaded the software.  I didn't see any indication of downloading taking place.  That's why I conclude that Quickoffice and Adobe Reader must have remained somewhere inaccessible (to me) on the Touchpad.
By the way, this is a great forum.  Thanks.

  • [SOLVED] Accidentally deleted two directories on a mounted external...

Is there any way to restore them? I had an external hard drive mounted at /media/extdrv/. On it, I had multiple directories, including:
    /media/extdrv/downloads
    /media/extdrv/movies
    /media/extdrv/music
    /media/extdrv/mukti
    /media/extdrv/paperthin
    /media/extdrv/anime
I was copying one folder to another using this command:
    sudo sudo cp -R downloads/\[LIME\]\ His\ And\ Her\ Circumstances/ anime/Kare\ Kano
The "Kare Kano" folder did not exist, which may have caused the problem? Now, when I list the files/directories under /media/extdrv/, I get nothing:
    [mukti@headcrab01 media]$ cd extdrv/
    [mukti@headcrab01 extdrv]$ ls
    [mukti@headcrab01 extdrv]$
I've heard of many different tools to fix this, but I have never used any of them (ddrescue, extundelete, etc). I didn't realize that that command would cause the deletion of all directories under /media/extdrv, but I suppose I was wrong? Is there anything else I should check before attempting to use one of these recovery tools? Is there a specific tool that might be more suited for my specific issue?
The external drive is formatted ext4:
    /dev/sda /media/extdrv ext4 defaults,nofail 0 0
There was well over 300GB of data on the drive, so any help is appreciated!

It actually looks like I not only entered sudo twice, I ran the command twice (the first time only using sudo once. From my history:
    486 sudo cp -R downloads/\[LIME\]\ His\ And\ Her\ Circumstances/ anime/Kare\ Kano
    487 sudo sudo cp -R downloads/\[LIME\]\ His\ And\ Her\ Circumstances/ anime/Kare\ Kano
Also, upon further investigation, this was another issue. I checked, and /dev/sda was not mounted, and sda was not listed under /dev. I ran over and found that the external hard drive was powered off (the system/ext hdd are not in the same room/on the same floor as I am). I was able to power it back up, but I'm not sure what would have caused this.
So I guess I posted this a bit too soon, and should have done some more investigation; however, I am curious as to why the drive would lose power. All other devices on the circuit were still powered on and running. Could the commands I issued have caused this?
This can be marked as solved, since my "problem" is no longer. Thanks for the help.
    EDIT:
I should also note, this 'event' has made me realize that I could not afford to lose some of the data on this drive. As a result, I'm going out to buy another as a backup.

  • Accidentally deleted iTunes, is there anyway I can download it again and have it just back up my iPod instead of clearing it of all data? All of iTunes files are still on my computer, but the actual program got deleted.

I was trying to clear space on my C drive and decided to delete programs that I didn't use or that I didn't recognize. (Bad idea, I know that now.) Anyways, accidentally deleted a program that iTunes needed to run and the computer said it would undo the uninstall and restart to fix the problem but when it restarted iTunes was gone. So my question is, after I download iTunes again, is there a way I can just backup my iPod to it's last sync (which was coincidentally right before I accidentally deleted iTunes) instead it being cleared of all its data? All of iTunes' files are still on my computer except the actual program itself.

    Hi, InsaneCharlie.
Thanks for the question.  I see you have uninstalled iTunes and want this program back.  Start with completely uninstalling iTunes if present and all of it's components in the order specified in the article below.  Once this is done, download and install iTunes.  If none of your data was modified in the iTunes media folder, then your data should be present upon installation.

The problem may be that all of the prior bits of iWork '09 were not deleted before you tried reinstalling. The iWork installers are very finicky. Deleting everything & reinstalling is probably needed. The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user. Yvan Koenig has written an AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his box.com account in for_iWork'09 > other_iWork'09 items > uninstall iWork '09.zip.

I accidentally deleted documents from Pages on my iphone - and now they won't show up on my mac anymore either.  I must have saved them just on icloud and not on my mac, too.  is there anyway to recover these documents?

On a mac, when you save docs to icloud, a local copy is also saved.  It's saved at:
    ~/Library/Mobile Documents
Note that Library in the user's home folder is now hidden, so you'll have to set Finder to view hidden files.
The Mobile Documents folder has subfolder where copies of the doc/data files are stored.
If the file(s) are no longer there, then use your Time Machine backups to get copies back to the mac.
