  • Acer Aspire V5-571 will not power on

    Apologies - just posted this question in Welcome Forum by mistake.Computer will not power on, was working perfectly last night when I shut down. Have tried all suggestions in Knowledge Base with no success. Any help very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    I have had this problem twice now. My system is working just fine. I power it down and take it to work or home. I get to my destination and plug in my system and i get NO lights of any kind. It will not power up at all. I get NOTHING. My laptop is all of a month old. I pull out my screwdriver and take off the bottom cover. I check connections etc. Everthing is tight and clean. BUT note that I have touched several metal components. Did I just ground out any stray charges? I don't know. But Now after doing nothing more then looking and touching I put the case back together. Turn if over and plug everythign back in again and NOW it powers up.  The second time same thing only this time it gets to the Acer screen and nothing. I power off/on and try again. Acer screen. After 2 cycles of this I swap out the power block (19V @ 3.42A acer just like the original). After 2 more cycles I swap back to the original. I try #5 and i'm getting ready to power off again when I get the floting balls wait sign and I wait.... now up until now boot up on windows 8 has always been less then a minute. This time its taken like 6 minutes to boot up. NOTE It updated to 8.1 last thursday (I HATE auto updating! it is now turned off!). So any ideas here? is this a static buildup issue? Is this a design issue? Power board or plug issue? What is the problem here Acer. I LOVE my 1st acer aspire 5210z until the screen died. So I buy the awesome new one and   ACER HELP!!!!

  • [SOLVED] Acer Aspire One D250 LAN not detected.

    Hi guys,
    Cant seem to find anyone on the net that has the same problem as me, but here it goes.
    I have a Acer Aspire One D250, Id really like to run linux on it. There are dozens of posts on the web explaining you need to install the drivers from the Atheros site because the output of lspci is wrong.
    Well, the problem that i am having with Arch is that lspci doesnt even show my network card, and as soon as i boot, the light on the physical card turns on, but never goes off (almost like it hangs...)
    Ive included the output of Arch's lspci where its not visible, and the output of the ubuntu live netbook remix where it is visible just as the wrong name.
    Its almost like arch wants to load the wrong driver and then the card just freezes.... but i dont know, im not a fiull blown linux expert...
    Hope someone can help me because its driving me crazy.

    again, no internet information available, although someone posted about editing the source file, but getting send and transmit errors once the driver was loaded into the kernel.

    P.S. compiling this thing under ubuntu was no problem, and it worked instantly.

  • [SOLVED] Acer Aspire One - Wireless issue + Wpa_supplicant

    Hi there!
    I've been using arch on both my desktop and laptop for a while, with wpa_supplicant working perfectly for both of them (University 802.1x auth) I have a config file which works perfectly on the same wireless network with my laptop, but on the netbook I just can't seem to get on it. It's an Acer Aspire One - A150.
    This computer uses as we know an atheros chip, which I just can't seem to get working. My laptop on the other hand uses an ipw2200 chip which works fine.
    I've installed the madwifi modules, and when doing iwconfig i can see wlan0 listed.  If i try to scan for wireless ap's with "iwlist wlan0 scan" it does not find anything.
    Doing "wpa_supplicant -Dmadwifi -iwlan0 -c/..../wpa_supplicant.conf -dd " produces the following error
    [henrik@scribble ~]$ sudo wpa_supplicant -Dmadwifi -iwlan0 -c/home/henrik/wpa_supplicant.conf -dd

    I really hope some of you have a suggestion to what I can do to fix this, as it's really annoying only being able to use wired.
    What I find wierd, is that "iwlist...scan" does not work.

    two things:
    1. Your computer should be using the ath5k driver for the ar5007 chipset that your netbook has... and
    2. If the opensource approach doesn't work for you, build this driver.
    p.s. (wlan0 will be renamed to ath0)

  • Acer Aspire E5-571-53HX won't start properly

    I was using my laptop and had the usual blue screen pop up to staten that the computer ran into am error and needed to update. Upon restarting the computer it stopped at the acer start up screen but it was disoriented and the picture was skipping. After I turned my laptop off again it only boots the fan up for a few seconds then beeps like it would when shutting g down normally. Sometimes after it shuts itself off it turns back on again but it never shows anything on the screen. I've only had the laptop for just over a week and recently installed windows 10. Is there anything that can be done?

    Onixzepher,
    If you can't get into the advanced options to possibly refresh/reset the system to repair itself, you can attempt to restore it to factory defaults using the ALT-F10 method.

  • I have an Acer Aspire v3-571, it has a black screen and power button on.

    i need help! i have tried plenty of bios and the newest one i downloaded just has an update exe. in the folder, please help!

    Is it a "black screen" or is the screen "dead"?   There is a difference.  The first means its a software issue, most likely.  The second means it is a hardware issue.
    If it is the first, I would due a backup and restore your phone.  If its the second one, you need to replace the screen or get a new phone.

  • Acer Aspire V5|123 - Shutting Down Problems

    Hi,
    I have bought an Acer Aspire V5|123 netbook yesterday. I had done a clean install of Windows 8.1 (with Pro). At the moment I was trying to do some updates on this netbook to get to the latest updates. But each time this netbook updates, the shut down method is taking like 3 mins to boot back up again which is taking longer than usuall!
    I have a Compaq (from HP) computer which has Windows 8.1, the computer I use mostly is this - the boot up and shut down times are fast and quick. The operating system runs smoothly on it and it works fine and never had a problem for a few months now!
    Also, the power button light stays on for like 5 mins after the Windows shut down. So, I have been surfing on the web to find a solution to this simular problem. I have found out a forum thread with someone answering about replacing the battery or replace the BIOS battery with a new one and see if that solves the problem.
    Thanks!
    Best Regards,
    Benjamin

  • Acer Aspire Switch 12 noisy LCD backlight?

    Greetings, Got my brand new Acer Aspire Switch 12 the other day. I'm very satisifed with the form factor and with the device in general. Except for one thing. There is audible amount of noise coming from my unit when the backlight is set between 0% and 100%. The noise seems to emanate just under the "Acer" logo. This noise goes away when i set the backlight to 0% or to 100%. And it seems to be the loudest if i set the backlight to about 50% It is not very obvious but i can definitely hear it in a quiet room. Kind of defeates the whole point of a fanless design if you ask me. I think the noise is coming from the capacitors or coils in the backlight regulator circutry. I would like to know if this is a general problem with this model or is this just a problem with my unit. Fellow Aspire Switch 12 owners, do you have the same issue with your unit? Acer admins, is this a known problem with this model? I have to know, i have to decide whether i'm going to replace the unit, return the unit or just stick with it. I bought it from amazon.es.Part number of my unit: NT.L7FEB.004

    mkatic,
    I do not see anything in the documentation that talks about that issue, you can contact Acer technical support in your area to see what your options are, or you can seek them through Amazon; I believe that this might be their return policy if it helps steer you in the right direction.

    I have the same problem with my Acer Aspire 5100 (video ATI Xpress1100).
    xorg.conf is not used. Turning KMS off doesn`t help.
    I have tried to use uswsusp, but it doesn`t help. s2ram -n output correctly identify my laptop, which means it is in "whitelist" and correct settings for this hardware is known. s2ram suspend works, but screen blinking after waking up remains the same.
    [Sydorenko@SLE ~]$ sudo s2ram -n
    Machine matched entry 17:
    sys_vendor = 'Acer *'
    sys_product = 'Aspire 5100 *'
    sys_version = ''
    bios_version = ''
    Fixes: 0x3 S3_BIOS S3_MODE
    This machine can be identified by:
    sys_vendor = "Acer "
    sys_product = "Aspire 5100 "
    sys_version = "V3.10A"
    bios_version = "V3.10A"
    See http://suspend.sf.net/s2ram-support.html for details.

  • Problem with touchpad and Windows 8.1. Acer Aspire E5-511

    I bought an Acer Aspire E5-511, but I have problem with touchpad and Windows 8.1.The touchpad (Synaptics) is not working with Windows 8.1 x64, but it works fine with Windows 7 x64 and Windows 8 x64.When I install Windows 8.1 and have to choose” language to install” I can’t choose anything with the touchpad. I should plug in my mouse to continue. I doesn’t work even when it’s fully installed and with latest driver (available only for win 8.1 x64) from Acer’s website. I tried with an older driver, but had no success. I updated BIOS, but it doesn’t work again. In hardware IDS in device manager it shows HID\… not ACPI\… (like win 7/8). Fn+F7 doesn’t help.When I try to install Windows7/8 the touchpad is working properly at the beginning (I can choose ”language to install”, “Time and currency format”… and the touchpad works after install even without driver).

    SOLUTION So guys after deep research and troubleshooting I found that you need to keep notice of a few things at time of installation: Installation Mode: UEFI (only)- LEGACY would create touchpad issues. after installation of windows just follow the driver installation hierarchy 1.Intel NB_Chipset_M Baytrail-M 2.Intel I/O Driver then rest of the crap. Note:After doing all this make sure your touchpad is active >> Fn+F7 Just wished if this solution came from an acer executive , the world would have been a better place , but anyways this is what community is for. Enjoy everyone

  • Suspend problem ACER Aspire

    Hello!I have an ACER Aspire 5920G and running arch linux with KDEmod 4.1, smoothly except for some minor problems...The most important of them is that the computer cannot suspend when I set it to suspend (to disk or to ram) eg. after 20 minutes.When I press the power button or pm-suspend, or any manual way it suspends....It won't suspend after the time runs out!I have powerdevil and guidance power manager installed...I also don't understand what's the purpose of power control in system settings->Display, since it also does nothing when enabled...please help me I need my computer to suspend when idle...Thank you very much!

    I just realised that if I configure it from powerdevil to suspend after 1 minute, ita does suspend...But eg after 5 minutes it does not.I believe tha the screensaver causes it to not suspend as it starts after 3 minutes...Can you please tell me what to do to whitelist the screensaver for powerdevil?(if that's the problem...)

  • Acer Aspire 3820TG Graphics problem

    Hello! I just recently updated my Acer Aspire Timeline X 3920TG to windows 10. The installer reported that there should be no problems, and all seemed well, installation went painless.
    However, I soon discovered some problems with the drivers for the graphics card, an AMD Radeon HD 6550M. - The card is reported as a "5000 series" card, not 6000. Some people have mentioned that it is just a rebranded 5000 card, but it has shown up as 6550M before.- The HDMI connector is not working, and as such I cannot use my TV for a second screen. Worked fine before installing windows 10, but not now.- Civ 5 does not start with DX9 any more. DX 11 works fine.
    - Way of the Samurai 4 has started lagging seriously. Not much framedrop, but everything is in slow motion, and it responds very slowly to controls. Again, worked fine in windows 7. I have googled for solutions, reinstalled drivers, killed all drivers and tried to reinstall both directly from AMD, Acer and Microsofts update service, but to no avail.  Please help. Is this a lost cause or is there a solution?

    Too bad. I took the plunge to downgrade again to windows 7, which was as easy as upgrading to 10, thankfully. Gotta give them credit for that at least.
    Works perfectly in 7, so I guess I'll have to live with this until I upgrade to a newer laptop. =/

  • Acer Aspire Switch 10 e keyboard dock problem

    Hi. I have this brand new Acer Aspire Switch 10 E which I just bought last month. I'm now having problems with the keyboard and the dock as when I connect the tablet/screen to the dock, the keyboard is not detected. It recognizeswhen I dock the tablet but it doesn't detect te hard drive nor the keyboard. Sometime, after a long while, it detects the keyboard and the hard drive but only for a few seconds then it disappears again. Other times, it just flips continually from working and then not working. The problem is so sudden. I would jokingly note that whenever I search for solutions to the keyboard problem, it very briefly fixes itself. On a serious note however, I do not know what causes this malfunction nor do I know what fixes it. As stated above, the problem is so sudden. I have been very, very careful with the use of my laptop including in the removal and docking of the tablet. I have inspected the docking pins, and physically, they look perfectly fine. The problem occurs even the tablet has been connected and left undisturbed for continuous periods of time. This has led me to believe that the problem could be software based and not hardware. I am also open to the possibility that it could be heat affecting the docking pins (heat can cause connection issues and this isn't the first time I have encountered one, nor the second) but like I said, the docking pins work perfectly and remain constantly in contact witch each other. As I have postulated that the problem is software based, I have gone through the hassles of searching for possibble drivers for the dock/keyboard. Unfortunately, (this might be due to the Aspire Switch 10 E being a fairly new model) there were no keyboard drivers on the Acer support page for the Aspire Switch 10 E. In my search, I encountered a video for the Aspire Switch 10 keyboard to fix the problem, a driver update for the Switch 10, NOT the Switch 10 E. I have tried the solution and it still does not work. I am not a fan of forums and if I am, I am usually just a reader kind of person. But in the light of recent events and the fact that there are virtually NO questions or posts about this brand new model of laptop, specfically the Aspire Switch 10 E, I have taken the responsibility of raising this question in the hopes that a knowledgeable person may provide assistance and that the others of my kind (the Aspire Switch 10 E users) may be enlightened as well. I would sincerely appreciate the assistance. God bless. TL;DR: Aspire Switch 10 E detects docking but keyboard and hard drive are inconsistently not working. Help. Reposted this topic on the laptops forum because I realized I posted the first one in desktops.

    Hi, I have a similar problem.  Sometimes after waking or after removing or reataching the keyboard it becomes unresponsive.  But if I then restart the computer it is fine.  I think, in my case at least, it can not be due to just a bad connection, as otherwise restarting it would not change anything.  Also, I don't think it is something that has been fixed as it is quite a recent purchase and I have recently updated windows and drivers.  The whole reason for choosing this pc was the ease with which it converts between tablet and laptop mode so any advice would be very welcome. Thanks,Tom

  • [Solved] NVidia Drivers on an Acer Aspire 7520

    I'll keep it short and simple. I got this laptop, an Acer Aspire 7520.
    Everything works. Except the graphics in Arch.
    I've had to fall back on using nouveau instead of the nvidia driver - maybe it is or isn't better, but I can't get the nvidia one to work.
    When installing Arch, when the time comes to test X, is fails with the error that it can't load the .ko module. Can be reproduced also by trying to run 'modprobe nvidia' as root.
    Given that my attempts to try and put up with Vista just came to a stop with it's rather poor excuse for a network manager being incapable of getting an IP address from the DHCP server, I'd like to get this sorted.
    Oh, almost forgot. The laptop is 64-bit capable - but with approx 2GB of RAM, even though it's a dual core, the benefits of running a 64-bit OS on it probably wouldn't show up. So it's a 32-bit Arch instead.
    Besides, Arch64 is a pest when it comes to stuff not made for x86_64.
    Anyway.
    That's the problem. Is there a fix for this, which doesn't involve using a different driver?
    Thanks,
    Grem.

    This is what is currently in the 10-monitor.conf file:
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "Monitor0"
    EndSection
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Device0"
    Driver "nouveau"
    EndSection
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen0"
    Device "Device0"
    Monitor "Monitor0"
    DefaultDepth 24
    SubSection "Display"
    Depth 24
    Modes "1440x900_60"
    EndSubSection
    EndSection
    To change it to nvidia, I'm unfortunately at a loss for what to put in exactly.
    'uname -r' returns:
    2.6.24-ARCH
    I use the stock kernel. I haven't felt adventurous enough to try making my own custom one yet, which is one of the reasons I went off Gentoo. They can claim it's easy all they like, my only attempt on Gentoo didn't work in the slightest.
    Anyway.
    Unless I'm looking in the wrong place, running 'tail /var/log/dmesg.log' both before and after modprobe shows absolutely no difference at all. Nothing is added to it in the slightest.

  • Acer Aspire 5750 Problems in Error.log

    Hello,
    I installed Arch on a Acer Aspire 5750 with:
    i3-2330M CPU @ 2.20GHz
    4 GB Ram
    and Arch runs very well!
    But by every boot of Arch I got this errors:
    1: /usr/sbin/crond[469]: (CRON) INFO (Syslog will be used instead of sendmail.): Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden
    But I do not ever install sendmail ...
    2: kernel: [    6.146484] sdhci-pci 0000:02:00.1: Invalid iomem size. You may experience problems.
    3: kernel: [    6.194110] [drm:intel_dsm_platform_mux_info] *ERROR* MUX INFO call failed
    4: kernel: [    7.260867] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: Invalid ROM contents
    5: kernel: [   15.228768] [drm] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: 0xD518: i2c wr fail: -6
    and I got a wlan error, but my wlan works very well.
    My Arch runs well with this errors... I think this errors are not so bad, but I want to boot arch very fast and with this error messages I need 50 seconds...
    The other Problem:
    In the Wiki I read something about fgetty and agetty... I replaces agetty with fgetty in /etc/inittab and I installed fgetty via yaourt  But I still got an fgetty error:
    init: cannot execute "/sbin/fgetty"
    But the /sbin/fgetty is there...
    Can someone help me with this problems?
    Thanks!

    1: /usr/sbin/crond[469]: (CRON) INFO (Syslog will be used instead of sendmail.): Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden
    But I do not ever install sendmail ...
    That is just telling you that syslog will be used instead of sendmail, because there is no sendmail program to use on the system.
    2: kernel: [ 6.146484] sdhci-pci 0000:02:00.1: Invalid iomem size. You may experience problems.
    Does your sd card reader work properly? I use to get that error before I noticed it did not work. I fixed it by adding this to modprobe.conf
    options sdhci debug_quirks=0x40
    Not really sure on the other two as I try to avoid nouveau use personally and have never seen that intel related error on mine either and have not done fgetty on my systems.
    Hope that gets you some place
