[SOLVED] acpi-cpufreq fail to load
I had been using cpufreq to use the ondemand governor for a long time and it worked al right. Last update changed cpufreq to cpupower and I can no longer use cpu freq. scaling. And insmod won't load the acpi-cpufreq mod. I remeber well I used this module to get scaling to work. I have an amd athlon X2. And acpi support is enabled from BIOS.

Hi,
I wanted to use cpu scaling for my new laptop, eventually it works if i modprobe acpi-cpufreq so i added acpi-cpufreq to /etc/rc.conf to let it start automatic on boot but i won't. when i modprobe the module everything just works but it isn't that user friendly;) Does anyone now a solution for this problem?
Here is my rc.conf:

acpi-cpufreq is a module not a daemon, put it in the modules list, it should work then.

I'm trying to load the module acpi-cpufreq, but it keeps failing:
$ sudo modprobe acpi-cpufreq
FATAL: Error inserting acpi_cpufreq (/lib/modules/2.6.24-ARCH/kernel/arch/x86/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/acpi-cpufreq.ko): No such device
however:

acpi-cpufreq.ko
Am I missing something?

Do you just mean what the modes are? This article has a short description of each one. I assume that if the gnome-panel applet can select a mode, the module is already loaded. So all that you've got to do now is select the mode you want. Powersave is best for a very hot summer, ondemand is best for general use (you won't notice any slowdown). -
[Solved] Ncmpcpp Visualizer Failed To Load (Blank)
I've install ncmpcpp and mpd and I've followed each guide to enable visualization. Unfortunately I don't know what have cause it to failed to load.
Everytime I hit '9' to reveal it, it just showing blank terminal..for your information all of my songs just played fine.

The wiki says [1] for older CPUs, I have to expect this error, but my CPU isn't really old:

That's why cpufreq didn't work. Somehow, my BIOS disables cool'n quiet (altough it shows enabled in settings) when cpu is overclocked. Now i set my cpu to standart clocking and cpu frequency scaling begin to work. However, it runs in performance mode but i have configured it as ondemand in /etc/conf.d/cpufreq settings. Any ideas?
[SOLVED] :
Somehow, min and max freq were uncommented in /etc/conf.d/cpufreq. I comment them and now it works!

[Solved] Nvidia module fails to load on lastest kernel (3.6.7-1-ARCH)
Hi there!
I have just updated my desktop PC yesterday, as I normally do every week (yaourt -Syu --aur), and today when I rebooted my Xorg refuses to load.
I've checked the logs, etc, and I think there's a problem with the nvidia module. In fact, I can't even modprobe it.
I've googled for hours, but I can't find any solution out there...

Hi I'm having issues with my Arch installation on my laptop
I'm using i3wm with i3bar & i3status and have everything working fine except for one thing:
The i3status "gets stuck" meaning it doesn't update battery/clock stats. When I reset i3status it doesn't appear anymore either. When i run ACPI in the terminal, nothing shows up (just a blank screen). Same thing with htop. Top seems to work fine but viewing the date and time through the terminal command works fine.. It's just the battery stats screwing up. Htop reads battery life also so I figure that's why it hangs..

Edit: Fixed
So this error seems independent of i3status or anything else. It's dependent on ACPI info stuff and only fails while running on battery mode. I'm not too sure exactly what goes wrong except for that it goes in an Infinite Loop (from looking at dmesg)
The fix that seemed to work for me is adding
acpi_osi=Linux
to my kernel boot paramters.
My boot parameters in grub now looks like this
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor acpi_osi=Linux acpi_osi='!Windows 2012'"
Ran on battery mode for at least 5-6 hours total, suspending and resuming, etc and so far there has been no problems. Seems like this fixed it.

Do you have any idea of what should be done to fix it? I don't want to use NVIDIA driver from their site neither nouveau, I want to use the one from the repo. If you know how to solve it, instead of only pointing the solution, also tell why this is happening, it will help me and other people with the same problem too!

As it's mentioned, it may be a problem of ACPI.
About the lib32-nvidia-utils, I just installed because it's written in the wiki http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVIDIA#Installing: "Note: On 64 bit systems, For 32-bit programs to take advantage of nvidia-utils you must also install the equivalent lib32 package (for example lib32-nvidia-utils)." -
[SOLVED]Get [FAIL] when loading user specified modules.
That is it, when the system is booting i get a [FAIL] message when loading user specified modules after upgrading udev, and the kmod new module handling or something as say in the news. I dont have a modprobe.conf or a modprobe.conf.pacsave file either and creating a modprobe.conf file doesn't solve the problem. The strange thing is that the modules are loaded anyways. I mean the ones that are specified in rc.conf. I dont know if the system [FAIL] to load that modules or others...The system works fine for now too.

[SOLVED] XOrg fails to load Nvidia driver on startup
Hi,
I'm having a fairly strange issue where XOrg is failing to load my driver when I start up my laptop. I'm using kdm, but this is causing it to fail. However, doing a simple
$sudo systemctl restart kdm
works, and everything starts up fine. When kdm is in the failed state, I see this:
$sudo systemctl status kdm

Which looks like it loads my nvidia driver, but then just decides not to use it for some reason... After I restart kdm, it seems to use the driver fine:

The nvidia website does link me to the 340xx driver for that card, but downgrading to that version still has the same issue. I suspect the issue is in Xorg, since it seems to load the module, but then decides it doesn't have a driver to run for some reason.

Topic says it. I just updated from kernel 3.2.7 to 3.2.8 and X won't start. The kernel fails to load the nvidia module with the follwing error: 'Exec format error'. Same for the virtualbox kernel modules. This is on x86_64, multilib and all testing repos enabled.
Downgrade to 3.2.7 by
pacman -S core/linux
solves the issue.

[solved] acpi - cannot load module
Hi,
I know that I'am not the only one with this problem, but I haven't found a clear solution yet. After doing a clean install with Gimmick, I tried to scale cpu-frequency. Thought I would follow the instructions in the French wiki page: http://wiki.archlinuxfr.org/doku.php?id=acpi_powernowd
I have installed acpi and powernow, of course. I have an AMB Sempron 2800+ processor, which supports powernow-k8. However, when I try "modprobe acpi", I receive this message:
FATAL: Error inserting acpi_cpufreq (/lib/modules/2.6.16-ARCH/kernel/arch/i386/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/acpi-cpufreq.ko): No such device
But the file manager tells me that this module might be found under exactly this path ...
Searching around I have found that someone apparently solved this problem by recompiling the kernel without SMP support. I am afraid that this is somewhat beyond my reach (i don't even a have clue what SMP is). Please let know if there is an easier way to get things done.

[Solved] Catalyst fails to load kernel module
I have just been through the Catalyst install guide, I installed from the Vi0L0 repos rather than building myself.
Everything appeared to go fine, however fglrx fails to load when I reboot. The xorg log contains;
fglrx(0): atiddxDriScreenInit failed. Probably kernel module missing or incompatible

Is this recoverable? Or does this mean that the current Vi0L0 module has not been built for my kernel (3.11.5-1-ARCH)?

shows fglrx is not loaded, and:
modprobe fglrx
returns with;
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'fglrx': Exec format error
Does that indicate a 32/64 bit issue?
