[solved] ACPI Info failed

Hi I'm having issues with my Arch installation on my laptop
I'm using i3wm with i3bar & i3status and have everything working fine except for one thing:
The i3status "gets stuck" meaning it doesn't update battery/clock stats. When I reset i3status it doesn't appear anymore either. When i run ACPI in the terminal, nothing shows up (just a blank screen). Same thing with htop. Top seems to work fine but viewing the date and time through the terminal command works fine.. It's just the battery stats screwing up. Htop reads battery life also so I figure that's why it hangs..
Here's a portion (most recent portion) of the dmesg output if it helps (there's some ACPI Error message I don't understand). This problem occurs randomly and is always fixed with a reboot.. but I'd rather not have to reboot.

Can anyone help me figure this out? This kind of problem happened on Ubuntu 13.10 also. Thanks in advance guys.
Edit:
I also have my kernel parameters set as this if it helps
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor acpi_osi='!Windows 2012'"
Edit: Fixed
So this error seems independent of i3status or anything else. It's dependent on ACPI info stuff and only fails while running on battery mode. I'm not too sure exactly what goes wrong except for that it goes in an Infinite Loop (from looking at dmesg)
The fix that seemed to work for me is adding
acpi_osi=Linux
to my kernel boot paramters.
My boot parameters in grub now looks like this
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor acpi_osi=Linux acpi_osi='!Windows 2012'"
Ran on battery mode for at least 5-6 hours total, suspending and resuming, etc and so far there has been no problems. Seems like this fixed it.

Please edit your post.
When posting configs, code or command output, please use [ code ] tags, not [ quote ] tags https://bbs.archlinux.org/help.php#bbcode

  • [SOLVED] acpi-cpufreq fail to load

I had been using cpufreq to use the ondemand governor for a long time and it worked al right. Last update changed cpufreq to cpupower and I can no longer use cpu freq. scaling. And insmod won't load the acpi-cpufreq mod. I remeber well I used this module to get scaling to work. I have an amd athlon X2. And acpi support is enabled from BIOS.

Please clean up this post. There's lot of duplicates and irrelevant stuff.
If acpi-cpufreq suddenly stopped working after update it must be a kernel bug (unless you updated BIOS at the same time).
Start with pacman -Syu since 3.7 branch is dead.
Okay, but where do you see duplicates?

I just updated Window 8.0 to 8.1 for the second time as the first Time there was an UEFI issue...  the 8.1 installs and update seemed smooth... I shut down, and I leave for work. I come home fire up my PC it seems slow!! it boots...
I notice some live tiles are active I prefer mine off so I  shut off a couple Live tiles. so then I decide to open the Mail tile and it locks up... and then one of my browsers freezes up!!! I could not open task manager at all to end the
proses, so I decided to restart and then an app was not allowing windows to restart!!! so windows ended the task on its own could not make out what program or app it was!!! and the machine booted up slower again. I went into the event viewer
and what do I find in there is this stuff and now looking at it this all started after the windows 8.1 update... I get it we all want the latest and greatest OS but as my mom said good things come to those whom wait don't rush into anything!!!
and I think Microsoft you are rushing to push stuff out onto the Market... so now I have to sit here and wonder why my PC now takes 2 + minutes to load!!! (BS) and on win 8.0 it took 60 seconds... fix this please I will watch and see if
this happens again if it keeps up I will have to once again revert back to 8.0 and at that point I will want some $$$ compensation for my loss... why should I have to go through hoops for something with the word Mircrosoft attached to it...
I wonder how many others have had this same issue and don't even know its happening....

Asus Desktop PC CM1745 Series - 64-bit Operating System x64-based processor.
I had trouble with AODDriver4.2.0 causing errors because the system could not find the path, It turned out to be uncleared program remnants in the registry were looking for an old version of the driver, in the wrong place , instead of the current one.
Oh, and I tried sfc/scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth from elevated cmd prompt and elevated powershell ise everthing was reported with no errors and with powershell, the report said windows store corruption was repaired.
Before this I had used apps.diagcab and it said my IE 11's  temporary internet files folder was in the wrong place that it was going to put it back. Well, it messed up my IE 11 so the folder location was in the same place but it was not listed in the
location:                 . <----- Just like this. Plus the amount of disk space available was 8mb-which messed up any sort of operations for example putting in a new search
engine could not be completed.  I had to use a system restore.   I currently have no errors showing up but warnings yes. thankfully most are minor. This is the other event viewer report which could be related:

  • Update memory info failed

We have an Oracle SQL query which runs in seconds directly on the database but when we put it in InfoView it runs for several minutes.
We ran a trace on the query in InfoView and received thousands of lines of this:
    **WARNING:CCDZMgr:Update memory info failed [cecdzmgr.cpp;1161]
Has anyone seen this before?  Is it something we can repair or do we have to live with it?
    Thanks
    Josh

    HI Josh,
I have seen this in almost every 3.X log. We've looked into this and found that it's nothing to worry about. If things are running slow, you'll need to look in another direction.
    Hope this helps.

I have actually had a success message among one of the  error messages, which was:
    Can't open display(null)
And meant that everything is in order but I just did not have X started.
I interpreted that incorrectly and tried to further fiddle with display configuration.
    Marking as Solved.

  • [SOLVED] Netbeans - Run fails - most of the time

    Hello everybody,
I have just today installed Netbeans Verion 7.0 and all plugins are up to date.
I have a strage error with a simple "Hello World" program:
The program builds always fine, but it runs just in about 1 of 5 tries.
    Here are some screenshots:
    Build Info
    Success
    Fail
I also realized, that when I choose "Debug / Debug Main Project" this works all the time.
    Any suggestions?

    just found a workaround here:
    http://forums.netbeans.org/ptopic28915.html
disabling the built-in profiler: in project properties ->
Profile, uncheck "Show profiling indicators during run".
    solved the problem.

  • [Solved] Pacman preparation failed

I'm trying a new installation from a USB key and it fails on the Package Selection phase. The error message I get on tty7 is:
Execute(): worker_package_list exit state was 1
    More info:
    - arch is x86_64
    - I'm installing from a USB stick on a laptop that has been running x32 arch for at least a year (it's a core2 cpu)
    - I've checked and double-checked the md5sum of the iso and the image on the stick
    - I'm using a core iso - no network access
    - I select the local core repo when running aif
    - I can see all the packages in /repo/core/x86_64/{core,any}
    - I've read the aif bash scripts but so far I've been unable to see what the problem might be
I've read all I've found about the subject (there are many threads on this problem), but nothing that describes my exact situation; nothing has helped me. If somebody has any pointers, I'll be grateful!
    -- buo
P.S: I've solved this problem; here's the solution in case anyone else encounters something similar. My drive was already partitioned and formatted, so I was telling aif to leave it alone. After I allowed it to reformat the root partition, the problem went away.

Ah, my mistake was an incorrect partition table back when I partitioned the disk. I did not make a partition table for GPT partitions.

  • [SOLVED]dual boot-Failed to mount real root device

    Hello,
Here is my drives partition info:
    /dev/sda1       2,949,122,048 3,907,028,991   957,906,944   7 NTFS / exFAT / HPFS
    /dev/sda2               2,048   901,117,951   901,115,904  83 Linux

    /dev/sda5         901,120,000   901,439,487       319,488  83 Linux
    /dev/sda6         901,441,536   905,648,127     4,206,592  82 Linux swap / Solaris

    /dev/sdb4          73,779,200   224,673,791   150,894,592   7 NTFS / exFAT / HPFS
I installed Opensuse 12.1 on /dev/sda5. It is booting with Grub, working with no problems. The computer boots directly to Grub menu.
THEN, I installed Arch linux (last release) on both sda and sdb following these mounting points:
    /dev/sdb1 mounted as /boot  Ext2
    /dev/sdb2 mounted as /   BTRFS
    /dev/sdb3 mounted as /usr  BTRFS
    /dev/sda2 mounted as /home  BTRFS
Intstallation went smooth until the end. Installed the bootloader.
Now, I am trying to configure GRUB to boot Arch.
Here is what I added on /boot/grub/menu.lst, in sda5 under Opensuse:
    title Arch Linux  [/boot/vmlinuz-linux]
        root (hd1,0)
        kernel /vmlinuz-linux root=/dev/sdb1 ro
        initrd /initramfs-linux.img
In Opensuse, i can check that vmlinux and grub/menu.lst are indeed in /dev/sdb1
    My /etc/fstab is on /dev/sdb2
    =============================== sdb2/etc/fstab: ==========
    # /etc/fstab: static file system information
    # <file system>    <dir>    <type>    <options>    <dump>    <pass>
    tmpfs        /tmp    tmpfs    nodev,nosuid    0    0
    /dev/sda2 /home btrfs defaults 0 1
    /dev/sdb1 /boot ext2 defaults 0 1
    /dev/sdb2 / btrfs defaults 0 1
    /dev/sdb3 /usr btrfs defaults 0 1
With this parameters, i got an message error when booting Arch:
Mounting /dev/sdb1 on /new_root failed: no such device.
Error : failed to mount the real root device.
So, at busybox prompt, I tried this command line :
    ramfs # mount -t ext2 /dev/sdb1
    Got an error : Can't read /etc/fstab
I tried too to give a uuid adress to sdb1 in my menu.lst file, but it didn't change anything, so I am sure partition number is correct.
It seems to me in fact that GRUB can't find fstab.
    Two questions :
-Would it be better in fact to use only 1 GRUB file for both systems? If yes, shall I keep only the grub config from Opensuse?
-What do I wrong with Arch booting? Why can't I boot Arch?
EDIT :1- just realised there is no BOOT flag in my partiton table on /dev/sdb.
                2- root is on /dev/sdb2, not sdb1.
1-I toggled my first partition bootable using fdisk
2-changed root to point to /dev/sdb2
    Now booting into Arch login

It was a very simple problem. I used the wrong uuid for my /
    Correct entry in 40_custom is:
    #!/bin/sh
    exec tail -n +3 $0
    # This file provides an easy way to add custom menu entries. Simply type the
    # menu entries you want to add after this comment. Be careful not to change
    # the 'exec tail' line above.
    menuentry "Arch Linux uuid" {
    insmod part_msdos
    insmod ext2
    search --fs-uuid --no-floppy --set=root 8516fa60-0d45-4f33-b269-817c5290f6cc
    linux /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/9f32e668-2548-4ed4-a10b-3fbea66a6d95 ro vga=775
    initrd /kernel26.img
Now the boot is working great. Next thing was that my /home and swap was not detected.
That was simply because /etc/fstab was still using /dev/sda etc naming. changing  that to uuid solved that part as well.
To use uuid all the way and of cause the correct one solved everything

  • [SOLVED]sensord.service fails to start

    Hi there!
I made a clean Arch install a couple of days ago and I've had problems trying to get sensord to work apropriately. I've went through the troubleshooting of this particular service and googled a lot the last couple of days about this topic but I found nothing really useful (or nothing that I could really understand. Maybe my search terms are not so effective ).
    # systemctl status sensord -l
    [sudo] password for daniel:
    ● sensord.service - Log hardware monitoring data
    Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/sensord.service; enabled)
Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since mié 2014-09-03 09:14:04 CLT; 7min ago
    Process: 4231 ExecStart=/usr/sbin/sensord -i $INTERVAL -l $LOG_INTERVAL -f daemon (code=exited, status=127)
sep 03 09:14:04 Ophiel sensord[4231]: /usr/sbin/sensord: error while loading shared libraries: librrd.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    sep 03 09:14:04 Ophiel systemd[1]: sensord.service: control process exited, code=exited status=127
sep 03 09:14:04 Ophiel systemd[1]: Failed to start Log hardware monitoring data.
sep 03 09:14:04 Ophiel systemd[1]: Unit sensord.service entered failed state.
This is just a minor annoyance. My system performs great and I have no issues with it. It just annoys the heck out of me to see a service failing in my start up screen.
I don't know if hardware specs or other logs are useful. But if you need more info, just let me know
    Thanks in advance.

Really ? Maybe there are services working but unrequested, have a look here:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=186244
I thought, that you explicitly installed sensord. Do you need a round robin database to visualize graphically your measured values in Nagios e.g. ?

  • [solved] acroread suddenly fails silently

I think I must be missing something obvious but I can't think what and searching the wiki and forums hasn't helped. (Probably I'm searching for the wrong things.)
acroread was working fine a couple of days ago. I am using the AUR PKGBUILD file, updated for 9.4.7 according to the instructions in the AUR comments. (9.4.7 is a security update but the package hasn't been updated in a long time.)
The most recent things I've done which might have affected things involve font configuration. I've been working my way through the font config wiki. In particular, I've replaced the default freetype2, fontconfig, libxft with infinality/lcd versions. I've done the same for the lib32- versions of these packages, where applicable.
I have tried rebuilding and reinstalling acroread and the system-wide installation of acroread fonts (just in case). I've also updated the font cache list and the fonts.dir and fonts.scale files.
I first noticed that acroread wasn't working in firefox. Usually, the kpartsplugin opens pdf in acroread in the browser. Now I just get an empty space. (Not a blank page but the grey background behind the page which you don't usually see, I think.) But no sign of acroread. I then tried opening some pdf files on disk from the cli with acroread. I get a general error about not being able to find oxygen-gtk:
    (acroread:14245): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "oxygen-gtk",
However, I always get this and acroread works fine. (I've tried to solve this following hints found on the forums by installing lib32-libxslt and lib32-xcb-util but this didn't make any difference.) oxygen-gtk2 is installed just fine.
Apart from this, the OS switches to the appropriate virtual desktop as though acroread was starting but acroread never starts. I don't get an error message. I just get left at the empty desktop.
No errors are logged in ~/.xsession-errors and I can't find anything in the system log files either (errors.log, everything.log, dmesg, Xorg.0.log etc.).
I tried acroread -info so I could check paths etc. but this also fails silently.
What have I missed? Or how can I obtain more useful error messages from acroread? (i.e. any error messages at all!)
In the meantime, I've also been unable to find out how kpartsplugin decides which applications to use. I wondered if I might persuade it to use okular (the system default for pdfs) instead...

Thanks for the quick reply. Do you mean installing the older versions of the packages?
    lib32-freetype2-2.4.8-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    lib32-gtk2-2.24.8-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    freetype2-2.4.8-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    gtk2-2.24.8-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
I'm the person who asked if that kludge was compatible with having the standard versions installed on the system. No, I haven't tried that.
I think this is a different issue because acroread isn't even starting. I get the crashes usually but not before it even starts.
I'll definitely try this, though, if somebody can tell me what (if anything) I'd need to uninstall to use this...
OK. So this does seem to have worked. Thanks very much for suggesting it. I just hadn't made the connection with the sporadic crashes or remembered that suggestion.
What I did was find these files:
    lib32-freetype2-2.4.8-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    lib32-gtk2-2.24.8-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    freetype2-2.4.8-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    gtk2-2.24.8-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
(I used 2.24.8-1 for all of them - don't know if that is bad?) and the corresponding signatures. Downloaded them, checked the signatures and unpacked them. I then ran the post install instructions for the gtk packages. This didn't work for lib32 and I don't think it was necessary for either of them. I copied the corresponding file from the system for lib32 just in case.
I stuck all this in a directory under my home directory. I then adjusted the KDE launcher with an appropriately modified form of the command from the comments, thus creating ~/.local/share/applications/acroread.desktop. (I tried doing this manually but couldn't get KDE to use it.) I then created a sh function along similar lines which will get sourced in all my sh/bash shells. Won't get propagated to tcsh without intervention but I hardly ever use tcsh anyhow....
So I hope most stuff should use the kludge automatically.
Sure would be nice to see this package getting a little attention from somebody who knows what they're doing!
Thanks very much. Unfortunately I rely heavily on acroread as I can't find a replacement so fixing acroread tends to have a depressingly high priority when it (frequently) breaks.
I don't understand what made it so much worse. Presumably infinality versions of freetype are even less to its liking than the current official versions!

If anyone knows what it is and how i can fix it.

    Hi
Install the Toshiba Value Added Package for Win 7 64bit and check if it will solve your problem.
The driver for ACPI\TOS1901 seems to belongs to Value Added Package
As Im not mistaken the Satellite A505-S6025 was released in USA. Therefore you should use the Toshiba US driver page to get the package.

I don't know why, but now it works.
    Possible reasons:
previously I installed my system from bootstrap and now from the iso
    Arch updates
Now I use journaling in ext4 previously not (I've installed both time to usb flash)

  • [SOLVED] apache daemon fails to start on boot, but rc.d restart works?

I installed apache from the official repos and followed the instructions in the wiki for configuring it. I checked to make sure the http user exists, and I /etc/hosts looks good (to me). Upon boot, the daemon fails to start and I can't load local web pages, but running "rc.d restart httpd" works just fine. Since I'd rather not start it manually every time I boot, is there a way to fix this? Also, httpd is the last daemon in my DAEMONS array.
    /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf:

The SIGTERM are from reboots, yes. I'm not absolutely sure that the process isn't running; I just know that I can't access http://localhost immediately upon reboot. I have to restart the httpd daemon, which works fine. How would I be able to tell if it's just hung?
I checked everything.log, and I don't see anything that leaps off the page to me.

All I notice is that my system's time is having a few problems, since you'll notice that events occur at 22:00 and change, then 17:00 and change, then back to 22:00 and change afterwards. Could this be the problem? I've had the CMOS batteries peg out on me suddenly in the last few weeks. I would hope this sytem is not also suffering a similar fate. Nothing else was happening on my system except for the standard processes from /etc/rc.conf and other standard ones, since I've just been rebooting, checking the logs, then posting here.
