[SOLVED] After Systemd update...2 problems!

Yesterday I update my system and switch to the pure systemd as of arch linux wiki.
Everything is working well, boot time is lightning fast, every programs are working except for Amarok and Vlc.
When I click on the start menu (I'm using KDE) -> then multimedia and Amarok or Vlc, the icon bounce without opening the program's window.
I must kill the Amarok and/or Vlc process in the monitor.
Running in console show absolutely nothing for Vlc.
Running Amarok in sudo in console output:
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
unnamed app(774): KUniqueApplication: Cannot find the D-Bus session server:  "/usr/bin/dbus-launch terminated abnormally with the following error: No protocol specified
Autolaunch error: X11 initialization failed
All my daemon of before systemd are active and systemd setting are ok too.
Does anyone have the same behavior or can point me to a possible solution?
Thanks,

  • [SOLVED] Problems with systemd-update-utmp after systemd update

    Hi all,
    I noticed that systemd-update-utmp-runlevel.service has been failing since the last systemd update. My systemd is:
    Repository : core
    Name : systemd
    Version : 184-2
    $ systemctl status systemd-update-utmp-runlevel.service
    systemd-update-utmp-runlevel.service - Update UTMP about System Runlevel Changes
    Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/systemd-update-utmp-runlevel.service; static)
    Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Sat, 02 Jun 2012 13:55:40 +0200; 56min ago
    Docs: man:utmp(5)
    Main PID: 395 (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
    CGroup: name=systemd:/system/systemd-update-utmp-runlevel.service
    The exact cause of error is:
    Jun 02 13:55:40 arch systemd-update-utmp[395]: Failed to write utmp record: No such file or directory
    Jun 02 13:55:40 arch systemd[1]: systemd-update-utmp-runlevel.service: main process exited, code=exited, status=1
    What's more, after this update I am not able to mount vmware hgfs shares. I've got following entry in my /etc/fstab (from arch's wiki)
    #enable shared folders
    .host:/ /mnt/hgfs vmhgfs defaults,ttl=5 0 0
    It worked just fine. After the update system boots into maintenance mode with the following message found in sysemd-journal:
    arch mount[143]: Directory in share name must not be empty
    arch mount[143]: Error: share name is invalid, aborting mount
    After commenting hgfs mount entry out the system boots normally.
    Thanks in advance.
    EDIT:
    Mounting hgfs shares manually works as expected
    $: sudo mount /mnt/hgfs
    Could not add entry to mtab, continuing
    mtab:
    .host:/ /mnt/hgfs vmhgfs rw,relatime 0 0
    so this issue must be systemd related

    falconindy wrote:Still can't reproduce this. libmount's parser does just fine with ".host" as a dummy entry in my /etc/hosts file mapped for an NFS share.
    Yep, libmount is probably not a problem, I guess this error comes from vmware's hgfsmounter
    static Bool
    ParseShareName(const char *shareName, // IN: Share name to validate
    const char **shareNameHost, // OUT: Share name, host component
    const char **shareNameDir) // OUT: Share name, dir component
    const char *colon, *dir;
    /* 1) Must be colon separated into host and dir. */
    colon = strchr(shareName, ':');
    if (colon == NULL) {
    printf("Share name must be in host:dir format\n");
    return FALSE;
    /* 2) Dir must not be empty. */
    dir = colon + 1;
    if (*dir == '\0') {
    printf("Directory in share name must not be empty\n");
    return FALSE;
    /* 3) Dir must start with forward slash. */
    if (*dir != '/') {
    printf("Directory in share name must be an absolute path\n");
    return FALSE;
    /* 4) Host must be ".host". */
    if (strncmp(shareName, ".host:", 6) != 0) {
    printf("Host in share name must be \".host\"\n");
    return FALSE;
    *shareNameHost = ".host";
    LOG("Host component of share name is \"%s\"\n", *shareNameHost);
    *shareNameDir = dir;
    LOG("Directory component of share name is \"%s\"\n", *shareNameDir);
    return TRUE;
    I am just wondering why it worked before (and why manual mount works). Is there anything in systemd mount layer that consumes '/'?

  • Apple TV after recent update has problems with Hulu Fall 2014 shows

    In specific, ONCE Season 4 from ABC. The shows play about 15-17 minutes, up to the 2nd commercial - which fails almost immediately, the screen goes black and nothing. (I did find that the SUBTITLES come through - of all things.) If you try and re-start the episode with RESUME PLAYING, you'll just stare at a blank screen for ever.
    I have notified HULU of this issue with their content - other shows (like Agents of Shield) play fine, just not ONCE Season 4.
    Obviously, something is broken and needs to be fixed.
    **** Update ****     The problem seems to be caused by the subtitles. Turning the sub-Titles off seems to work-around the problem.

    i dont have an ipad but ive had problems also, streaming music from my itunes off my macbook to my appleTV so i after seeing all these itunes 11 problems, im starting to think its the new itunes cuz my airplay was working fine until i updated also.

  • After 18181 update - wireless problems

    After I applied the 18181 update today, airport will connect to my router but will stop responding after about 10 minutes....reselect another router (there are several in my neighborhood) then it will again work for about 10 minutes until it stops. It will remain connected and appear to have no problem when running diagnostics, it just stops working on either Safari, Firefox, or Mail. It appears to be related to this update since the problems began immediately after the update was applied.

    Hi,
    I really like the changes done in the forum.
    I also appreciate the efforts take by the SDN team to keep it up and reduce the downtimes.
    But there are problems with this one as goes with any other thing.
    As mention above,
    I can stay with first one...
    But the response time is really something to look forward. I can make a cup of coffeee after clicking on an event...
    Kindly, do something for the same.
    Regards,
    Amit
    Today response time is good...

  • [PROBLEM SOLVED] After last update, Can't use keyboard in Xorg

    Apparently the last system upgrade installed "xf86-input-keyboard-1.3.2-1-i686" but I reverted back to "xf86-input-keyboard-1.3.1-1-i686" and everything is working again.
    Lesson learned: put all xorg related packages to hold because my geforce2 mx440 won't need updates.
    This is just frustrating. After doing a system upgrade (which upgraded xorg to version 1.5) I can't use the keyboard anymore. In fact, my screen would freeze also, as long as I was using the latest Xorg version. This machine's card is a geforce2 mx440.
    So I downgraded xorg-server with pacman -Rd xorg-server and pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/xorg-server-yadayada1.4yadayada; Fine, I can use the mouse and open X just as normal as before. BUT the keyboard seems helpless.

    Perhaps you can find some help here http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xor … otplugging (or in one of the many threads about xorg 1.5 breaking input devices)
    No Idea about your problem after downgrading (expect just as a guess, there is some problem with xbinkeys when it is autostarted with the window manager -- http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=65468).

    What could have become wrong?

    From the 210 release announcement:

    Oh, and one reminder that kinda got lost when we announced 209: you have
    to enable CONFIG_FHANDLE in your kernel to use systemd >= 209
    successfully, otherwise udev won't find any devices.

  • [SOLVED] After pacman update, system no longer boots

    Updated pacman packages, and half-way through the upgrade proces fails (it mentions not being able to find package-control).  Upon investigating, I notice no programs are working.  I ls /usr/bin and it is empty!  In a panic, I restart the machine, and it no longer boots up.
    My boot is on sda3 and /root is sda5.
    When bash starts up, it loads the kernel fine, and then after a second it panics and exclaims: "No init found. Try passing init=bootarg".
    I load up my trusty Arch livecd and fsck the partitions.  Fsck claims both partitions are clean.  I am able to mount them and examine the file structure: all files look like they are there.  I then try to chroot the mounted partition (sda5, my /root), and get the error that "/bin/bash" is not found, even though it is there in the correct directory.  Not sure what to do now.
    My grub entry, which has always worked fine prior to this:
    legacy_kernel '/linux344-ck' 'acpi_osi=Linux' 'root=/dev/sda5' 'rootfstype=ext4' 'init=/sbin/init' 'pcie_aspm=force' 'acpi_backlight=vendor' 'i915.i915_enable_rc6=1' 'i915.i915_enable_fbc=1' 'i915.lvds_downclock=1' 'ipv6.disable=1' 'i915.semaphores=1' 'modprobe.blacklist=bluetooth,uvcvideo' 'ro'
    legacy_initrd '/initramfs-linux-fallback.img' '/initramfs-linux-fallback.img'
    UPDATE: solved issue.  I didn't read the news.  Upgrading via pacman broke my system because of this.  Now I know!  System is running smooth again.

    Huh. I guess the problem was a couple of stale and crusty {,f}getty .service files, and an obsolete slim.service file I created a while back.
    Removing them fixed my problem, although tty1 still shows boot messages (not a problem, and may not even be "new" behaviour)
    Cheers Tomegun.

    Is it possible that this has something to do with the old kernel? Or is this another problem? What does the line

    Icu was upgraded from 0.50 to 0.51.1 , you probably have packages (could be from AUR) that are build against the old icu version and need to be rebuild.

  • [SOLVED] After qemu update: Qtemu broken

    After today's qemu update, the GUI frontend qtemu no longer works for me. (As in, you click on the Start button and nothing happens.)
    I've added myself to the kvm group, and I've tried changing the qemu binary name from "qemu" to "qemu-x86_64" in the qtemu prefs, but it still refuses to run.

    Excellent, it works!
    Having to do this for every virtual machine separately is a bit annoying though. Hopefully QtEmu will introduce a global setting for this in a future version.
    I don't use Qtemu, but have a script that does the standard qemu launch and call that with each vm's specifics. Anyhow, could you not wrap the binary with a script that does -enable-kvm (etc.) and just specify that in the qtemu settings?
    I tried that:
    #!/usr/bin/sh
    qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm "$@"
    Looking at that script now, I notice I messed up the shell path. Should have been /usr/bin/bash or /bin/sh. Oops. There was no error message from QtEmu about the missing shell, so I did not catch that mistake until now. Oh well…
    QtEmu is actually rather nice when you frequently create new VMs. I don't want to write a script for every throwaway VM test setup that only exists for a few hours. So I'm glad QtEmu works again.

  • [solved] After sytem update ALSA only plays sound for root

    Hello. Yesterday I performed a system update as usual, and after rebooting I found that my user account does not have any sound anymore. Root has sound just fine. I checked and my user is still in the audio group. I even removed him from the group, added him again, and rebooted but it did not help.
    I get these error messages in a terminal:
    mplayer:
    alsa-lib: pcm_dmix.c:989:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to create IPC semaphore
    speaker-test:
    ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:989:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to create IPC semaphore
    Playback open error: -13,Permission denied
    Running these with a sudo works 100% fine. Alsamixer levels for my user are normal too.
    WORKAROUND: Restart timidity service.
    SOLUTION: Do not run timidity as a service in the first place.

    Thanks for replying.
    My root user actually doesn't play sound, I just tried to play some for testing purpose after my normal user suddenly just had silence.
    Unfortunately those IPC-changes did not help. However, I removed my /etc/asound.conf file completely for testing purpose and voila, sound suddenly works again. So it seems the last update changed something that does not accept my asound configuration anymore. I will try to experiment a bit with its contents to further narrow it down.
    Ok, this is strange
    I commented out an entry
      period_time 0
    and after that my user had sound again. Then I restored that entry and...sound still works.
    I will pretend I didn't see anything and just move along I guess.

  • Unable to restore after E61 update without problem

    Hi there,
    First post here but I read a lot...
    As I was unable to connect on my home WLAN (a USR9106 DSL/modem/router) I decided to update my E61 to the latest firmware.
    I had no problem with the backup nor the update... but now, when I try to restore, I get a "memory full: close some application and try again"
    But as you can imagine, I have no open application ! (I also didn't forget to allow installation of non trusted application).
    Thanks for your help... I'll be in big trouble if I cannot restore...

  • [SOLVED] After qemu update: KVM does not work anymore

    Hi,
    I used to use qemu-kvm, as in
    qemu-kvm \
    -net nic,vlan=1 -net user,vlan=1 \
    -drive file=/home/flash-vm/hdd0,if=virtio,cache=writethrough \
    -vga std -vnc localhost:2 -usbdevice tablet \
    -m 1024
    However, now qemu-kvm has been removed. If I replace "qemu-kvm" with "qemu-system-x86_64" and try to run it with an extra argument  "-machine accel=kvm" or "-enable-kvm", what I get is
    Could not access KVM kernel module: Permission denied
    failed to initialize KVM: Permission denied
    The kernel modules are there:
    # lsmod | grep kvm
    kvm_intel 124064 0
    kvm 384721 1 kvm_intel
    and the processor is
    $ lscpu

    I have added my user to the group kvm as well, as instructed by pacman. Any help would be much appreciated!

    Interestingly, mine worked without being in the new group. However, I think that's because I hadn't logged out since the update, so the session didn't know that I had been removed from the group. Though I could be missing something.

  • Touch sensitivity problem after latest update iOS 6.1

    Hi guys,
    does anyone else have the same problem? After updating my iPhone 5 to latest version iOS 6.1, touch screen stared to work wierd. I have to slide a few times just to unlock my screen. Can not poroperly open any application and when I want to scrool, that's pain in the ***.
    Can anyone help me about this? Is that problem with the update iOS 6.1 or my iPhone5, 3 motnhs old become broken?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi. I have a 3 years old 3GS which i have updated whenever a new iOS was avaialble. This has been working with improvements besides the fact that the phone gradually is becomming slower with increased functions and especially from iOS 6.0 and up. It has however worked ok keeping in mind that it is a 3 years old phone. With the latest update to iOS 6.1, however, the use af the iphone has severely been affected, much like you other guys are experiencing. The below described behavior of the iphone has never happened before, until the faithfull morning of the 4th of februar, 2013 when i accepted to update the iOS to 6.1. Immediately after the update the problems started:
    When sliding to unlock the phone it takes several attemps (sometimes 10 or more) before the slider actally follows my finger to the end and the iphone unlocks.
    When typing  (eg. a text msg. or email message), it is now allmost impossible to type a meaningfull message because some of the keys do not respond and other only respond to a very hard press. Only when typing very slowly, making sure the touchscreen is actually responding, a usefull message can be made. It seems like the sesitivity of the touchscreen has been altered making it less sensitive.
    The same behaviour is observed for other functions and Apps like games which are now impossible to use due to the poor response of the touch screen.
    Now i only wish i could roll back the iOS to an earlier version (like 5.1.1) where the iphone was really working well.
    I really hope that a new and improved iOS will be out soon to correct for this problem

  • Still getting GPU Crashes after Graphics Update 1.0 MBP 2010

    Hi all,
    I am very disappointed after updating my computer to the latest Graphics Update. I have been recieving the problem less frequently before the update but now it's happening often.

    This is a error relating to the GPU retrieved from console. I recieved the black screen bug after waking my computer up from sleep (closing it after the bug wont sleep), then hard powered-off the computer. After a while, I turned the computer back on only to realise that the computer froze at the login screen (the mouse moves and sound will change, brightness controls show, but does not physically change), with the exact same error code from console but a different time.

    I have a MacBook Pro 10.7.2, ALL updates except for Aperture and iPhoto (cbf).
    What do I have to do now, other than returning computer to Apple Store (that will be my option if no solutions can be made)?

    My computer freezes totally randomly, didn't find a solution till now, but I did discover ...
    (1) When using an external monitor, can't wake up from sleep, I have to force shutdown . While after the update this problem has Gone. So dealing with external displays is no more the problem, sleep - wake up ,,, all ok.
    (2) Before the MacBook Pro video update 1.0, I had no problems at all while using the internal display, Except the Log In screen Freez, and it was randomly, it could happen 3-4 times a month.
    (3) After the Update, external display is perfect, but log in screen freez issue increased dramatically.
    My Operation system was OS X lion 10.7.2 upgraded from 10.6.8., So I decided to do a Lion clean install.
    * I wiped the drive, even made it a new one Partioin, installed 10.7, then 10.7.2 combo update. started to crash even without an external display, and I still didn't even install any applications, so I made the video update, and the computer started to act more crazy.
    * Now I installed a new hard drive, with a clean 10.6.8 runnning, I'll test the hardware again, then upgrade to Lion, as I found that the upgrade from 10.6.8 to lion was less troubles, than the Lion clean install.
    I hope its not a hardware issue concerning the Macbook Pro, I suspect the Harddrive, as I got a folder named :
    ( Lost+Found ), though the Lion Clean install on the new drive didn't solve the problem.
    ( HELP ) !!!
    Sorry for the Long post, but I am stuck now, cause I was a mobileMe user, and I upgraded to iCloud, and I am back to 10.6.8 cause I can't deal with the unstability of 10.7.2 and iCloud !!!
