[SOLVED] After upgrade received PRINTER NOT CONNECTED message

In the event that anyone else gets this message on trying to print, I discovered that the lp module was not being loaded (as it always had been).  Loading the lp module fixed the problem. It took a while to track it down, and thought this quick solution might be helpful.

Great, thanks. Fixed it for me too.

  • Printer not connected message

I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion, and since then I am unable to print--I get the message "Printer Not Connected".   My printer is connected to my Airport Extreme router via Ethernet cable.  When I go to system preferences, then network, the firewire and the ethernet choices are red--as in not connected or not working.  When I go to advanced, after choosing ethernet, I clicked on Renew DHCP Lease, but this doesn't change anything.  Any help would be appreciated, because I use my printer all the time.  It is a Canon Pixma MG8120.
Also, my Airport utility is saying "No configured Airport base stations have been found.  Airport Utility will continue searching."

This is a common complaint after upgrading from Snow Leopard systems.
Try this - reset your printing system as described here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1341
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
Choose Print & Scan from the View menu.
Hold down the Option key while clicking the "-" (Remove printer) button. If no printers are currently added, hold down the Control key while clicking in the box that appears above the "+" (Add printer) button, then choose Reset printing system… from the contextual menu.
Then, add the Canon Pixma again using the "+" button.
What does Reset Printing System do?
    Deletes all queues and jobs.
Resets all printer settings to their default by deleting configuration files.
Performs a permissions check on the /tmp directory.
Any printers, scanners, or fax modems that previously appeared in System Preferences will need to be added again after resetting the printing system.
    That should fix it.

  • "Printer not connected" message, but printer may end up printing anyways hours after

I'm pretty much helpless after trying reinstalling drivers (the printer is a HP C7180), updating and reconfiguring my router in various ways (Dlink DIR-655, 2.07NA) and trying all types of connections possible for the printer (ethernet, usb, wifi, auto dhcp, fixed adress dhcp), deinstalling and reinstalling the printer in Lion.
The drivers were properly re-downloaded and reinstalled. I followed Apple instructions for this printer under Lion.
The printer will work just after reinstalling from a first computer, but will immediately start behaving strangely after that. Any other computer will be told that the printer is not connected. The job will be put on hold, but it might end up printing an hour or two after that (or never).
I can't tell for sure if the printer is defective. The diagnostic isn't clear at all. I'd buy a new printer, but I'm afraid it might do the same thing, because it could be some problem with the router, for instance. I haven't found anything specific about this type of problem with this router model and this OS version (Lion 10.7.3).
    Any idea ?

    Hi @lbf626,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that you cannot connect your HP Officejet 6500 a plus 710n-z to your MacBook running OS X 10.10.2. I am sorry for the frustration, but I am happy to help!
    Please see the following:
'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the Printer Does Not Print: Mac OS X. (I would follow the instructions for OS X v10.8 Mountain Lion and OS X v10.9 Mavericks. As it will work on Mac OS X 10.10.2)
Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection.
Tips for troubleshooting wireless connection issues
The following tips can help you troubleshoot and avoid wireless connectivity issues. You can try these tips separately or in combination to get a successful wireless signal.
Move the printer and the computer closer to the router, but no closer than 6 ft (1.8 m). Wireless signals can be weaker at greater distances between the printer and the router.
If you are experiencing an intermittent wireless connection, try restarting your router. Consult your router manufacturer, Internet service provider, or network administrator for instructions on how to restart the router.
Remove any metal objects between the printer, the computer, and the router. Objects such as refrigerators, microwaves, or metal bookcases can interfere with wireless transmission.
Move any device that emits radio signals, such as microwaves and cordless telephones, farther away from the printer. Such devices can interfere with wireless signals.
Make sure the router is broadcasting at 2.4 ghz and not at 5 ghz.

  • Wifi printing after Mountain Lion upgrade, "printer not connected" error

I have Canon MP610 printer.  Was getting error message "Looking for printer" or "Printer not connected" after upgrading to Mountain Lion 10.8.  Printing works fine when I directly plug in USB cord to MacBook Pro to print. However, on the wifi network, no luck.  Today I have upgraded Canon's latest driver, reset the printer system, deleted printers from system icon in System Preferences, added new printer back in..... Nothing.
I have reset Time Capsule, where my printer USB is currently plugged into.
    Nothing.
Please advise what to try next...??

AirPort Utility 5.6 is available at AirPort Service and Support.
5.6 doesn't work with Mountain Lion, so am I stuck?
I already had AirPort Utility 5.6 on a Lion machine and upgraded to Mountain Lion with no issues. AirPort Utiliy 5.6 works fine as does AirPort Utility 6.1.
But, I did not try to download and install AirPort Utility 5.6 since it was already on the Mac.
Please try again and report on your results.

  • Installed a wireless canon Pixma MX432 printer back in November for use with my Mac Book Air. All was working normally until this past week when I began getting a message, "printer not connected." What is going on? Netgear Wireless N Router seems to be ok

My new canon Pixma MX432 printer is not printing. It was printing fine until about ten days ago. I use a Netgear Wireless N router, which is also new. What do I need to do. I get a message when trying to print that says "printer not connected." In addition, my old Gateway laptop will still print fine apparently because it has a cable connection to the printer. Puzzled!

Have you tried rebooting the router? I would unplug it, wait a few seconds, then plug it back in. Be sure you know the password etc. if that doesn't work, try unplugging and rebooting the printer. Good luck!

  • I recently replaced my dead airport router with a netgear91-5g router and synced it successfully to my Lexmark Pro 915 printer and my computer and yet when I try to print wirelessly I get the message: "printer not connected; printer offline".

I recently replaced my dead airport router with a Netgear91-5g router and synced it successfully to my Lexmark Pro 915 printer and my computer; yet when I try to print wirelessly I get the message: "printer not connected; printer offline". Lexmark support verified that my printer was connected to the new router and the problem was with the computer's printer configuration and they could reconfigure it online if I paid for their "Premium Support" services ($119 for one year, 3 fixes). I declined, feeling sure that this is something I could do if I knew how. Could it be an incompatability issue with OS 10.8.3?

You saved me $$$ that I can ill afford on my fixed income. I was very unhappy with the "support" from Lexmark... what a rip off!  Thank you dwb!

  • I receive a not connected to the internet message several times daily on my iMac connected via airport to a time capsule which accesses the internet via cable modem.. When I input my password to enter network preferences, the connection re-establishes.

I receive a "not connected to the internet message" several times daily on my iMac connected via airport to a time capsule which accesses the internet via a cable modem. Software/firmware is up to date on the iMac (OSX 10.6.8)  and Tme Capsule(7.5.2). Browser is Safari 5.1.
When I input my password at the prompt to enter network preferences, all the lights go green (ie... ethernet, ISP etc.) and the connection re-establishes immediately and states "the connection appears to be working normally".
It more of a nuisance than anything and seems to have started ocurring over the past couple of months. I also have a windows XP box also connected to the same cable modem that I never have internet connectivity issues with. I've verified all the physical aspects of the connections and can't see any evidence of any actual drops in the modem logs. I suspect it is just an intermittent communication loss between the Imac and the Time Capsule, but I am not very familiar with Mac equipment yet.
Just wondering if anyone has experienced a similar problem and what you did (if anything) to resolve it?
    Thanks.

The AirPort Express will connect to your existing wireless network if the network is using WPA2 Personal or WPA/WPA2 Personal wireless security settings.
So, it can join the network as a client and then provide an Ethernet signal to your Time Capsule.
Be sure to configure the Time Capsule to operate in Bridge Mode so that it will be operating on the same network.

After upgrading to Lion, not able to use a PowerPC Application (Quicken 2007).  Any solution?

Quicken Essentials 2010 has less features than Quciken 2007.  Keeping track of investments is one feature I need and Quicken Essentials does not include that function.  I may have to consider others financial software, such as iBank4, Money4, iFinance, and Money Well.

  • Printer not responding message

My computer no longer works with my printer. I have a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.9.2 and a HP C 6280. Original problem started today when I tried to print, intial indication was normal but after a minute or so computer print info shows "printer not responding" message. Printer is plugged in,  works as a copier and I printed a HP Network Configuration Page from the printer itself.  I followed instructions on the forum and took the printer away System Preferences>Printers Scanners> Delete and when I tried to reinstall the printer it's not finding it. Looking online it seems the printer should appear as an option when I click the plus on Printer Scanners page I get an ADD screen but the printer isn't listed there either and I can't add it. IP address typed  in Browser window doesn't find anything but I don't know how to fix that. I am using a Cable set up and the printer is hooked up via ethernet cable to the modem. This printer has worked fine till now I would certainly appreciate any help getting it back online. Thank You

    Hi di757,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that you can't get your printer back online with an Ethernet connection.
I would recommend to try and power off the Mac, turn off the printer, unplug the router for 30 seconds, plug the router back in, turn the printer back on, then turn the Mac back on. After that unplug the Ethernet cable from both ends and plug it back in.
Then I would try to follow this guide. OS X v10.9 Mavericks: Installing and Using the Printer on a Mac.
Hope this helps, and have a great day.

  • Printer not connected - iMac 10.8.4 & EPSON XP400

Everything worked fine until Mountain Lion 10.8.4 and latest Apple update of early July with new Epson drivers and after many attempts deleting and adding this printer, using Bonjour or IP direct addressing.
Wireless is fine, no RF interferences, internal printer webpages are correctly accessible, scanning is fine, only printing stops with "Printer not connected" error message.
There is another strange message on CUPS error log, something like "Impossible queuing on Lexmark_Z45 printer".
This was an old printer I unsuccessfully tried to connect to my iMac before buying this new EPSON XP 400 and apparently fully removed from OSX.
I also searched entire filesystem to find Lexmark occurences but nothing was found.
Is it anything related with Bonjour?

  • 1536dnf printer not connected

    iMac running  OS 10.10.2.
I have a iMac and have had no issues with printing to my 1536dnf connected directly vis USB cable, until now. I have also been successful in the past printing from my MacBook Pro, an iPad and from a PC with Printopia. Now I cannot print at all.
I am currently getting a consistent "Printer is not connected" message in the print queue dialogue when I try to print.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled all HP software using the latest HP drivers, deleted and reinstalled the printer, installed the HP Printer Software  Update 3.0 from the App store, but still cannot print. This last thing DID Install three times, so that suspicious to me. Printopia is off.
I can print the Printer Config page from the HP Utility, so I am sure that there IS a connection. I can also interrogate the printer with the Utility as to cartridge status (low). The copy function works on the printer.
Any thoughts as to the next step? Going mad here.

    Hi @Saabtarga ,
I see that you are having issues printing from the Mac, iPad and from a PC with Printopia. I would be happy to help you.
Check to see if the Mac sees the printer connected by a USB cable, through the System Profiler.
Go to the Apple, select about this Mac, system report, select USB.
Do you see the printer listed?
The printer should be connected directly to a wall outlet. Make sure the USB cable is connected directly to the computer. The USB cable shouldn't be longer then 6 feet. Try another USB port on the computer. Try another USB cable, just to rule that out.
I would suggest to download and install the Full Feature Software for Yosemite. HP LaserJet Pro M1536 Multifunction Printer series Full Software Solution.
If you are still having issues, please do the following steps:
Repair the Disk Permissions on the Mac:
    Close all applications.
On the Apple menu bar, click Go, click Applications and then click Utilities.
    Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left.
Click Verify and then Repair Disk Permissions.
    Restart the computer..
    Reset the Printing System:
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
Click the Apple icon and then click System Preferences.
    Click Printers & Scanners.
Right-click (or Ctrl +click) in the left white side panel, then click Reset printing system.
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system.
Then click the + sign to add the driver, highlight the printer. (you might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name) Then click on the Add button.
To properly print over Airprint, the printer should be setup on a network, with the Ethernet going from the printer to the router. I am not familiar with Printopia.
If there is anything else I can help you with, just let me know.
    Have a nice day!
    Thank You.

  • Unable to print, "printer not connected" but previously no problem

I then removed the printer from the list in the settings, now it won't populate a list to choose from to add a printer
    desktop macintosh 10.9.2
    HP deskjet 3054A printer

I turned all off for the night, then turned back on this morning.  When I tried to print, it said "printer not connected".  Then I removed the printer from the list (system preferences--printers & scanners--hitting the - sign).  Then I tried to repopulate the list (still in system preferences--printers-- hit the +) .  Nothing shows up.  No printers to choose from.  And no printing "no printer selected".  I turned all off again, hoping the list would populate when I turned it back on, but still no list to choose a printer from.
My printer does show up on the list when I plug it in with a USB cord, but still doesn't work. (can't remember if I had to do this in the very beginning). I don't know about reinstalling.....don't have the cd, but don't think the cd was used anyway.  I have looked all through the printer instructions on the printer small screen (HP deskjet 3054A 611j)  and did hit return to default settings.  Could I have reset an address or something?  Of course I did this after I already had a problem.
All other literature refers me to the printer cd for reinstall.
Very frustrating.  Thanks for your efforts, any other ideas?
